Every July, YMCA SGSCC students have always given time and effort to make peace lanterns in memoriam of the bombings during WWII in Japan. Once all the lanterns are ready it will be shipped to Japan. In that way, we are with them in spirit as we pay tribute to the pain that the Japanese had that day.

The 2016 YMCA storytelling competition was our 4th time participating and we had the highest number of participants from our centre. We had 12 contestants in all during the preliminary rounds. It was a great joy for the teachers to see our children’s enthusiasm and diligence to master the presentation of their stories.. They demonstrated a high level of commitment and responsibility in preparing for this event. Our teachers also worked hard to encourage and affirm their concerted efforts. We rejoice to see that the joint efforts of the children and teachers paid off when our centre was awarded the First Prize for the Upper Category (Primary 3 to 6) to Ferlin Fang from Primary 3. The story she told was entitled “Sticking Together” which is one of Aesop’s fables. Indeed, it is a great honour to our centre to win a first prize for the first time. Our other 3 contestants, Goh Guan Rui (Pri 4), Cliff Lee (Pri 2) and Lim Yi Jun (Pri 2) also displayed their best in the semi-finals. It is very encouraging to see our children growing and thriving in developing their storytelling skills. We would like to acknowledge and thank the support of our contestants’ parents who were present at the YMCA Headquarters to cheer us on.
