Hiroshima Peace Lantern
SMSCC Teachers throwing Mdm Seow a farewell lunch
Every year in the evening of August 6th which marks the memorial of the Hiroshima bombing, many people gather at the riverside in the Peace Park. They bring with them paper lanterns which they have decorated with paintings, drawings, cutouts, poetry, and messages to express their hopes and appeals for peace. When the sun sets, the Peace Lanterns are illuminated by candles and placed in the river. YMCA SMSCC participates in this annual event by sending 80 peace lanterns and 200 paper cranes .decorated by the children to Hiroshima YMCA to be floated down the river in the spirit of peace and solidarity.
