We would like to wish everyone a great start to Year 2018. A big thank you to our children’s parents who have entrusted us again to care for their precious young ones! A warm welcome to our students from Primary 1 and we welcome back our students from Primary 2 and Primary 3. We look forward to getting to know the Primary 1s and all our children’s parents better as we move forward. We have very exciting programmes lined up, such as our much anticipated Y Junior Entrepreneurship Programme 2018 in March and the annual Y Sport Stacking Competition in June! Also, we’ve planned different themed topics for the boys to explore during the holidays!

Imagination Gone Wild This year started off with our Imagination Gone Wild enrichment programme which helps nurture our boys’ artistic inclinations by drawing and making art and crafts out of their own imagination while being guided by a theme for each lesson. They were also taught how to do colour blending and apply the different elements of art into their artworks. Page 1

Y Junior Entrepreneurship Programme 2018 For our young entrepreneurs, 24th March was indeed an unforgettable experience. We had our Y Junior Entrepreneurship Programme 2018 (YJEP) which is one of our signature programmes that was implemented across all YMCA Student Care Centres since 2013.The aim of the YJEP is to introduce the basics of entrepreneurship (including planning, marketing, project management and teamwork) to our students. At the same time, we aim to cultivate the heart to care and serve. This is when students are to work in teams with the aim of raising funds to help fellow schoolmates who are less fortunate than themselves. All our boys were directly involved in one way or another-from the *hand-making of Hama Beads Coasters and Key chains, to helping at the booth at the Sengkang South Little Entrepreneurs 2018 held on Saturday, 24th March.

Seed Kindness Fund Junior 2018 The Seed Kindness Fund Junior is a programme that aims to promote the values of kindness and graciousness in the community. We have selected students as Kindness Ambassadors and had them attend a workshop held at YMCA Headquarters. After attending the workshop, the students completed a kindness project together related to the given theme. Our kindness ambassadors chose to show gratitude and appreciation to the cleaners in the nearby hawker centre by making cards and giving “Thank You Goodie Bags”. Through this effort, our boys inspired their schoolmates and friends to practice kindness and graciousness in the community.

March Holidays 2018 During the March Holidays, we had a fun-filled day at The Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden. It’s the first garden in Asia dedicated to children. The children had a chance to explore the garden and nature play areas. They became an ‘Adventurer’, ‘Gardener’ or ‘Naturalist’ for a day at the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden by following carefully curated trails and a mini picnic with their friends.
Aditya and Christian, showing their friends how to properly stack the cups. Haziq and Zi Yang, aiming for their time goal during the semi-finals.
Y Sport Stacking 2018 Y Sport Stacking is another YMCA SCC Enrichment Programme carried out by our centre this year. It helps improve hand-eye coordination, trains quickness and concentration of the mind. It builds confidence in public performance as well. The sport was first introduced as an enrichment programme in all YMCA Student Care Centres in 2016. The Y Sport Stacking Competition was held at the YMCA of Singapore Lee Kong Chian Auditorium on 19 June 2018. Page 3

June Holidays 2018 Our children are always looking forward to the June School Holidays which is a time for learning journeys and workshops. This year, our journeys comprised visits to the Singapore Sports Hub and the newly renovated - Sustainable Singapore Gallery wherein they learned more about how to create a livable and sustainable Singapore. The boys were also taught how to make their very own Milo Ice Cream which they enjoyed a lot as they get to have their fill and take home the Ice Cream! Hiroshima Peace Lantern Programme 2018 As part of our signature programme, the children also learnt to make their own Hiroshima Peace Lanterns and paper cranes. Selected works with messages of peace will be sent to YMCA Hiroshima. The children’s peace lanterns will be set afloat down the Motoyasu River where they will pass directly in front of the Atomic Bomb Dome. Annually about 10,000 lanterns will float down the river in the dark of night, each bearing wishes for peace. YMCA SSSCC participates in this annual event by sending Peace Lanterns and handmade paper cranes made by the children.
