YMCA SCC @ YIO CHU KANG Visit by Big Love & NKF Big Love, a Child Protection Specialist Centre under MonfortCare paid a visit to our school. The volunteers spoke to our students about Child Abuse. There were games and a photo booth. An officer from the National Kidney Foundation visited our school. She spoke to the students on the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. She emphasized about the consequences of being unhealthy and the fragility of kidneys.

YMCA SCC @ YIO CHU KANG English & Math Corner & YMCA Storytelling Competition English and Math corners were done by the teachers to encourage creative learning. Students got to play with their peers and quiz them. Our student, Hazel Loke from Primary 3 was chosen to represent our school in the storytelling competition. Hazel used her creativity to write up her own story. With help from her parents, she was able to write and present the story in a captivating manner.

YMCA SCC @ YIO CHU KANG Visit by CNB & Junior MasterChef Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau visited our school to educate the students on the type of drugs and how drugs can affect a drug user as well as their families. During the month of October, the students did their own tea break on Fridays. They got to try different types of sandwiches and got to make it themselves. The students looked forward to the Fridays just to prepare their own tea break.

YMCA SCC @ YIO CHU KANG Children’s Day & Visit by SPCA Children’s Day is celebrated each year to promote international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide. This year, Abbott brand generously sponsored chocolate and vanilla flavoured packet milk (Grow) to our students. The students also enjoyed swiss roll cakes followed by some outdoor games with the teachers. Officers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals visited the school to educate the students on animal abuse. They also spoke about how students can help to prevent animal abuse or estranged animals. The students were enthralled by the cute pictures of the animals. They were encouraged to volunteer with SPCA.

YMCA SCC @ YIO CHU KANG Farewell to Mrs Teo & Bubble Soccer Yio Chu Kang Primary School’s Principal, Mrs Teo left the school after serving with dedication for 7 years. The students did a thank you card and shared a few words of appreciation to her. Mrs Teo was very touched by the card. It was a pleasant surprise for her. Volunteers from Punggol CC organized a day of games for 5 YMCA SCC. Our school hosted the event. Students enjoyed Captain’s Ball, learned about First Aid and got to try the highlight event, Bubble Soccer. Students had to go into a human sized air-blown ball and played soccer, using their whole bodies. It was a fun time for the students as they got to bounce onto each other.

YMCA SCC @ YIO CHU KANG DECEMBER HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES Visit to Pizza Hut Our students visited Pizza Hut at Nex Shopping Mall. They got a chance to go into the kitchen and see how the pizzas were done. The students then got to enjoy kids’ meal with their friends. Designing Tote Bags The students got to personalize their own Tote Bag. They were able to choose designs like dinosaur, butterfly, dolphin and unicorn. Students also added their own words and other images to add their own ‘colour’. They got to bring the tote bag home.

YMCA SCC @ YIO CHU KANG DECEMBER HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES City Gallery The Singapore City Gallery is a permanent exhibit that has audio-visuals and interactive exhibits. The 3 floors display urban planning architecture. It houses a scale replica of central Singapore and exhibits historical buildings. Our students got to see 3D displays of how Singapore looks like. They also got to see how Singapore looked like 10, 20 years ago and were amazed by how much of difference there is. Polliwogs The Polliwogs is an indoor playground. It has a state of the art play equipment. Students were given a yummy lunch after a good time playing. It was not only the students who had fun, the teachers joined in as well!
