A Note from the Supervisor While the second half of 2015 continued to be a busy one for the YMCA Student Care Centre at Zhangde Primary School, it was also a period that presented many opportunities for learning as well as new experiences for the children. As we continued to support the children through supervision of their homework and a reinforcement of character values aligned with those of the school’s, we were also able to run enrichment programmes that offered them new ways of learning. In addition, the children were also privileged to enjoy special events as a result of YMCA’s wide reach with the community at large or internationally. For example, through a collaboration with UNI-Y, the children enjoyed a visit made up of a group of University students who wanted to spread Christmas Cheer with our children under their Çhristmas ‘Parcel of Love’ project. There were also the always popular outdoor trips organised for them and inhouse programmes that we are happy to share with you in this newsletter.

Enrichment programmes Themid-year Centrepublication. was able to run We therefore are happy to share these with you in this enrichment programmes for the children that we hope had provided them with varied ways of learning. December School Holiday Pogramme The December Holidays presented new opportunities for fun experiences for our children. Learning Journey to Milo Factory (Nestle Jurong)

Children learnt about what goes into a ‘Milo Tonic Drink’ and about the history of its ‘Milo’s presence’ as a drink among generations of Singaporeans. All eyes were on the machinery involved in the production of Milo at the manufacturing facilities. A journey they will remember.

Bean Art (Creativity with Beans) Hands-on and creative work taught by our Centre teachers. The children decided on the theme or object they would like to create or depict, and ‘built’ it using different coloured beans – and set in a wooden photo frame that they had selected.

Fruits …… er.. Beans of our Labour!

A Collaboration with Uni-Y – Christmas Parcel of Love Project Through a collaboration with UNI-Y, the Centre enjoyed a visit from a group of University students who wanted to spread Christmas cheer with our children under their Çhristmas ‘Parcel of Love’ project. During their time with us, the Uni-Y students played games, drew on charts and shared the Christmas story with the children focusing on the message of ‘love’.
