The YMCA Community Action Network (YCAN) is an innovative national program that engages leaders across Canada to address community needs through service projects. The program, which is part of the Canada Service Corps initiative, supports youth with opportunities to identify and execute a local service project that is meaningful to them. Youth involved will work together to select, lead, deliver, and evaluate a service initiative in their own community. Community service projects will establish a network of community contacts and stakeholders, create opportunities for participants to thrive and learn new skills, and address a local community need. YCAN is a good fit for you if: You are between the ages of 15-30 You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada You are passionate about learning new skills, building community connections, and making a difference in your community YCAN Saskatoon has completed 6 service projects to date. Over 90 youth contributed to the success of these service projects, which have included creating an online community amidst the pandemic, distributing Covid care packages, building community food pantry boxes, implementing an organic waste system in a high school, facilitating environmental sustainability workshops, creating a community mural, leading a newcomer-focused city and bike orientation for youth, and a speaking and running event aimed at raising awareness of homelessness in Saskatoon. https://ymcagta.org/youth-programs/action

Covid-19 and BASC Please note that there will be changes in the pick up and drop off procedures from previous years. The YMCA will be following each schools’ guidelines for entering and exiting the building. Where possible the schools will assign groups of students or classrooms to enter specific doors. If parents/guardians must enter the school during arrival and departure times they will be required to fill out a health questionnaire, sanitize and wear a mask before entering the building. The form can be filled out online ahead of visit or by accessing the QR code posted at the entry of the school. The YMCA will have team leader meet your child at the entrance for drop off. For pick up we will ask that you text or call the Team Leaders on the program phone when you arrive at the school. A Leader will then bring your child to meet you at the exit. Please be aware that there will be changes to this plan as will do continual evaluations in correspondence with each school. Any changes will be communicated with you.

Saskatoon Early Years Family Resource Centre

33

Program Overview The Saskatoon Early Years Family Resource Centre is set to open to families this Fall! The centre offers programs and services for families with children 5 years of age and younger. Everything is free of charge to families and all families are welcome. What can you do at the centre? Families can join groups focused on music, art, reading, parenting, early development and more. Parents and caregivers can connect with early childhood professionals such as nurses, counsellors and early childhood educators. Parents and caregivers can play and connect with their child in the drop-in play space and through guided activities. The centre is a welcoming and supportive place in which families can play, connect and grow together.

What about COVID-19? Due to COVID-19, things will look a little different at the centre. Our groups will be limited to a small amount of families and families will need to pre-register for the programs they would like to join. We will open up our drop-in space for families on a pre-registered basis and the space will be reconfigured to allow for thorough sanitization (we’ll be putting the pillows, puppets and other fabric items away for now). We will also be offering programs and resources virtually and through other non-contact formats. You can find out all the details about what we’ll be offering and when, on our website at www.saskatoonfamilycentre.ca or email us at frc@ymcasaskatoon.org. Do you have an idea for a group, or resource you’d like to see at the centre? Let us know! We look forward to welcoming children, parents and caregivers to the centre this Fall- in person and virtually!
