We go to yoga, every type of bar method, bootcamp, and the latest fun workout or detox. All of these things are wonderful and, thank goodness, abundantly available. However, when we are skinny as a rail, dressed to the nines and a huge signal that our motives are off. Chances are good that in this state of desperate seeking we are not attracting the kind of attention and validation we truly crave. So what is missing? We are missing the inner beauty that creates that irresistible outer glow. You know that glow - we see it when a woman walks in the room, lit up with a certain energy that exudes drop-dead gorgeous. She has that outer glow. She is confident. She is happy. She is connected to her Divine Spirit. She is in her authentic power. And I guarantee she feels drop-dead gorgeous. Now that is attractive! Unfortunately, we can’t bottle this formula. The formula is mental and emotional self-care and self-acceptance, which all lead to a strong sense of self. Forgiving myself, accepting myself and releasing all self-judgement allows me to forgive, accept and stop judging others. This frees up a tremendous amount of energy that can be used to create a fulfilling life. The saying, “I need my beauty rest” is no joke. Sleep is crucial for inner and outer beauty. Our brains need rest; our bodies need time to recharge. I have mastered the art of deep meditation - the healing and energizing kind - while in a relaxing hot aroma salt bath. I have found that an acupuncture treatment has the same effect as eight hours of sleep and a massage all in one. Yoga makes me feel human again after giving too much to work and others. Knowing our worth and treating ourselves in kind is the formula for that irresistible outer glow. Our inner beauty that creates this glow will attract the wholesome validation we truly crave. We are no longer desperate for it, but do appreciate it and graciously, like Princess Diana, accept it.
Namaste,

Spa & Beauty
Hydrotherapy Health
Most of us are familiar with the relaxed feeling you get from soaking in warm water. It’s one of the reasons hot tubs are a popular choice for home improvements, both indoors and out. However, many are not aware of all the hydrotherapy benefits of owning a quality hot tub such as a Sundance Spa. At Mirage Spa & Recreation, they strive to help customers realize the health and wellness benefits of owning a Sundance Spa and are committed to making it easier for their customers to enjoy those benefits everyday. There are three elements to hydrotherapy: heat, buoyancy, and massage. Many doctors recommend hydrotherapy to patients that suffer from a variety of conditions including arthritis, back pain, fibromyalgia, diabetes, anxiety, and insomnia. Individuals with any type of medical concern should consult with their doctor before using a hot tub. Warm water immersion causes vasodilation. This increases circulation to aching muscles to deliver oxygen and nutrients while eliminating cellular waste and toxins. Blood pressure is temporarily reduced and endorphins are released which help to relieve pain and enable a person to feel more relaxed.
The combination of buoyancy and warm water make stretching and exercising more comfortable. Stretches that may be too difficult to perform on land are easier with the benefit of water’s buoyancy. The water also provides resistance which can be used for strengthening exercises. The massaging jets on a Sundance Spa are a distinguishing feature that separates a Sundance hydrotherapy spa from all other brands. There are a variety of ways to control the water’s movement, flow rate, and pressure. This allows for a customized massage that feels just right. Additionally, bubbles from air injectors can be used to
provide a softer massage and to deliver the benefits of aromatherapy. Mirage Spa & Recreation has been an authorized Sundance Spa dealer for 27 years. Their staff consists of factory-trained technicians, industry-certified consultants, and friendly dogs. They are consistently recognized for superior customer service and rely on customer referrals to grow their business. They choose to specialize in hot tubs and hydrotherapy. They are not distracted by pools and other products. Mirage Spa & Recreation invites you to call Roger at 314965-0660 or stop by their showroom at 469 N. Kirkwood Rd, 63122, to learn more.
The buoyancy of the water helps to support the weight of the body. This reduces stress on joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Yoga & Spa Magazine • Summer 2016

Welcome to Beautycounter! We are a brand that is disrupting the beauty industry through a unique direct retail marketing approach, and I’m hiring! Beautycounter is just now beginning to touch the St. Louis area, and I am looking for motivated women who are striving for life balance and looking to make a change, with a goal of helping not just themselves, but also helping others. We are looking for a group of women who are ready to come together and share Beautycounter’s story and put safe products in the hands of everyone. The vision is very simple: to create a healthier world. What are the details?

The fast facts are you can join for $85 and make up to 35 percent commission on the products you sell. What’s great is if you want to earn more, you simply work more and grow and build a team! I cannot stress this enough - this is not “sales” in the traditional sense. We are empowering and educating others to make better buying decisions and helping them to seek out safer alternatives for their families. Why is NOW the RIGHT time?
everyday comfort is the ultimate luxury
In May 2015 we celebrated $1 million in sales. In May 2016, $10million! I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity now, because opportunities like this don’t come around too often - this is the right time, the right place and the right company to change your life. I’m making a difference. I have been touched in so many ways by the effects of chemicals in our skin care and personal care products. With Beautycounter and the resources our company has in place, I’m helping to make a difference in the lives of others. My efforts via social media, one-on-one appointments, home socials, etc., are strengthening the mission of Beautycounter and bringing consumers a shocking awareness of the lack of regulations in the industry.
I’m not alone: There is tremendous support from the Beautycounter team. We have Facebook groups, training sessions, corporate calls and an online training module that would make some of corporate America take heavy note. Gregg Renfrew, our CEO and Founder, makes weekly videos from her desk to update us on what is going on at the home office in Santa Monica. Gina Murphy, our head of sales, makes sure we have training calls and opportunity calls every week.
beautiful products, made safe
Flexibility is key: I’m a busy mom and wife, just like many of you. With this business, you do what works for you. There are so many women who have left their jobs or left corporate America because they wanted to be home. Beautycounter allows you to do this and also make a great income all while making a difference.
best face FORWARD Inspiration: I am working every single day with women who inspire each other to be the best versions of themselves. Working with these like-minded women brings empowerment and confidence. There are so many people that do not have knowledge of the dangers of the chemicals lurking in their products. I’ve had to step out of my comfort zone and I have met some amazing women because of it. Beautycounter has given me passion, friendships and rewards that are simply irreplaceable. I would love for anyone reading this to join with me and work with me to make those changes. Our lives matter, our children matter, and our communities matter. We are counting on you to help make that difference.
BEAUTYCOUNTER’S MISSION IS SIMPLE: To get safe products into the hands of everyone.

Try our 4 amazing regimens that work on the 4 main skin concerns...aging, sun-damaged, acne-prone, and sensitive skin
Instant Younger-Looking Skin with Micro Needling Rodan + Fields AMP MD Roller
http://lookingyoungertoday.myrandf.com/ 314-280-9569 Lynn.schroeder123@yahoo.com
This popular skin care tool safely and effectively conditions the outermost layer of the skin to allow products to work at their maximum efficacy. It utilizes micro-exfoliation that, when done daily, improves the tone and texture of your complexion as skin responds to the contact of the micro-needle tips. When used in conjunction with retinol and peptides in the accompanying Redefine Night Renewing Serum the result is firmer, younger-looking skin. It doesn’t hurt! The needle tips are tiny and don’t penetrate deep enough to draw blood resulting in a pain free process. Customers often describe it feeling like a cat’s tongue on your skin. The Amp MD Roller is meant to be used with Rodan + Fields’ Redefine Night Renewing Serum and comes packaged with a 60 day supply of serum capsules. This serum is a potent, proprietary blend of peptides and retinol, which visibly improves skin texture and firms while reducing the appearance of wrinkles. It also contains patented time-release technology that increases skin’s receptivity throughout the night while reducing potential irritancy. This serum has the texture of silicone primer and glides on the skin leaving the skin feeling silky smooth. To use the roller; a customer divides the face into sections (forehead, right side, left side, chin and neck) and, with moderate and comfortable pressure, rolls the AMP MD Micro-Exfoliating Roller over each section 4-10 times, changing directions with each pass. To care for your AMP MD, rinse the AMP MD Micro-Exfoliating Roller with very warm running water. Twice per week, clean thoroughly using an AMP MD Purification Tablet and soak for 15 minutes in the cleansing vial that comes with the roller. The AMP MD Micro-Exfoliating Roller is constructed of the highest quality micro-needle tips. Always store your roller in the clear storage case or snapped into the cap of the Cleansing Vial. Do not place the roller head directly on hard surfaces or countertops. For more information, please visit lookingyoungertoday.myrandf.com. According to studies, time spent in a sauna was found to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, relieve pain from fibromyalgia, and relax the nervous system while boosting the immune system. Better sleep, increased energy levels, reduced inflammation, glowing skin and weight loss (one session can burn up to 600 calories!) are all the benefits clients are excited about after sessions at Sol Sweat. Many clients come out of their sessions boasting about their renewed sense of clarity, heightened emotional health, and improved body-image. There is a movement in St. Louis to make self-care and healing oneself a priority. Too many people are experiencing anxiety and sacrificing their health, without nourishing

Your Body Can Surprise You by Becky Brittain, Ph.D, R-DMT Many people lead their lives primarily through their rational minds. However, listening to your body can reveal fresh, intelligent perspectives. Through a process called Body Talk, clients can focus on their body’s needs, wants and points of view. Look inside for the answers which are perceptive and surprising! The body contains a gold mine of current and past experiences that can immediately be sourced, revealing many hidden gems. In a recent body talk session, an overachieving woman who had high-pressure jobs and who was recovering from hip replacement surgery discovered that she was leading her life unconsciously from her right, masculinedominant side. This pattern was a father issue. Awareness of this unbalanced position helped her switch gears to incorporate leftside feminine intuition and pleasure. She developed a new life direction that brought more ease and creativity.
clients spend several minutes breathing, relaxing and allowing their body to become still. This creates an atmosphere of safety with attunement. The second phase is all about curiosity - what is there to discover? The body speaks through movements, imagery, sounds and sensations; learning the language of the body is required to understand the meaning of the cues. The third stage involves reflection, talk and somatic re-adjustment to reinforce the integration of material, so that greater self-acceptance, centeredness, and re-engagement with life can emerge. Befriend your body, which is your most faithful ally. The rewards are great when you apply both awareness and love. Learning to talk with your body creates shifts that can lead to a new destination. This allows the full Self to bloom.
Dialogue with the body can open, broaden and change personal perceptions on current health, life, emotions, relationships, and even financial matters. Asking the right questions and listening to the body generates awareness of feelings, tensions, sensations, instincts, stored memories, associations between body parts and structures. What needs to be released, balanced or remembered to boost life force and to live from the power of your Being? The body holds onto a previously experienced event until it is ready to be transformed. Having body conversations can restore awareness that leads to growth and healing. A client with recurring bladder infections was surprised to discover that her urogenital track was “weeping.” She acknowledged grief and wounding, and her body cleared the condition. Revelations can occur instantaneously with body talk. Body talk is a three-part process. In the first stage, 20

Summer Superfoods by Monica Koch Summer is a great time of year to check out the local farmer's markets. Buying from the local farmer has so many benefits. Buying directly from the farmer is often less expensive..cutting out the middle man. The food will be as fresh as you can get without growing it yourself. Sometimes it is only hours old by the time it hits the market. Since the food is so fresh, it not only tastes better, it is better for you and the environment. Here is a list of 5 summer "super foods" you need to enjoy this summer: Summer Squash - unlike winter varieties, summer squash is low in carbs and calories. Both zucchini and yellow squash are full of vitamin C, lutein and other antioxidants that will keep your immune system strong and your eyesight sharp. Swiss Chard - also known as a dark leafy green is full of magnesium and potassium. Cherries - not only are they delicious, they help fight inflammation and ease joint pain. Watercress - this peppery, somewhat bitter green has a higher antioxidant concentration than apples and broccoli. Figs - figs have 80% more potassium than bananas and are really easy to digest. They also have a lot of magnesium, so at 20-40 calories a fig...these are definitely calorie worthy. Saturday morning, grab your kids, a bag and head to the farmer's market. Grab the 5 summer "super foods" and whatever else you may need for the week. There are some great markets in the area, Soulard, Tower Grove, Ferguson, Kirkwood, Midtown (the Loop), Webster Groves and Kirkwood...check online for exact addresses and hours of operation. Then check out my website, www.kleanandlean.com for some great healthy recipes. Monica Koch (owner of klean&lean) has been in the fitness industry for 30 years and has developed her own innovative technique that takes you out of your comfort zone. She is a certified personal trainer, instructor for group fitness classes, a food and fitness motivator and the Health & Fitness Editor for Yoga & Spa Magazine. 30

Jessica Rask has approximately 25,000 hours of yoga amassed over the past two decades. At EveryBody Yoga, and her tandem business, The St. Louis Juice Press, she strives to help EVERYBODY in St. Louis realize his or her own health goals. She has vast experience working with people of all walks of life and has assisted her students in reversing rheumatoid arthritis, minimizing the effects of MS, using yoga as physical therapy to heal from car- and sports-related accidents, and much more! There is always a place to begin - even in a wheelchair. There is no better place to begin to heal and transform yourself than a place where EveryBody is welcomed, encouraged, loved, and met where they are ready to begin. Jessica left her corporate job in 2008 to open her first yoga school in Chicago, but returned to St. Louis in 2012 to be closer to family. She found that the City of St. Louis had a definite need for yoga that was accessible to the vast majority of St. Louisans - not just in what St. Louisans needed physically, but in what they could afford. EveryBody Yoga has transformed, not
only in name just recently (from Hot Yoga Midwest), to include classes for all levels of commitment in time (60- and 90-minute classes are offered regularly, and 30-minute quick classes are offered when possible in the schedule). Jessica has introduced a Total Transformation Challenge wherein a group of students battling serious health issues commit to practicing together four times a week or more. Students who stick with the program realize the most amazing benefits - from weight loss, to elimination of hypertension medication, to full reversal of rheumatoid arthritis, to avoiding back surgery and coming off of pain medication! Coupled with The St. Louis Juice Press, those who visit can find health not just in the yoga classes offered and Jessica’s years of expertise at working with so many different body types, injuries, and illnesses, but also in the cold pressed juices made fresh daily! The juices are never heated or oxidized, never diluted, never altered with sugar or other additives. EveryBody Yoga and The St. Louis Juice Press have their doors (and arms) wide open to welcome you!
Balance First by Melissa Cynova
Balance is one of the most important themes that comes across in my tarot readings. If you don’t take care of your emotional self, your physical self will suffer. If you don’t take care of your physical self, your mental health isn’t what it should be. Everything is connected, and everything is as important as the others. No pressure, right? The Temperance card in the Tarot deck speaks to this need for balance. You can find within it a circle, a square and triangle symbolizing body, mind and spirit. The Angel has one foot on land and one in the water. Balance. I know I’m not supposed to drink soda. It’s bad for my skin and my stomach, but sometimes I really want caffeine because I can’t concentrate. So, I drink the soda, upsetting the balance in my body to reset balance in my brain. What I’m really doing, though, is setting my brain up to fail by overstimulating it. A quick walk and a glass of water would have worked just as well, without the crash in the future or the dehydration that will follow. I could give a thousand examples of every day choices that upset our balance. Whether it’s taking the elevator instead of walking up the stairs, ignoring sleep for other concerns, or living each day at an elevated stress level – sending our cortisone levels through the roof. The solution seems to be taking a step back to see the big picture. What are the basics of your life? If we look to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, the things that we need to survive are water, food, sex, sleep and homeostasis. I would add to this list – a healthy spiritual connection. So, if we’re zipping through life without paying attention to our most basic needs, what will happen? We’ll get sick. Our bodies will start breaking down. Our emotional and mental states will suffer, and our spiritual connections will wear thin. You can’t be a good caretaker if you’re exhausted, can you?
How’s your health? Find out with the “Love Your Heart & More” program. This exclusive program is offered at The Centre For Vibrant Health and Wellness, the leading Integrative Medicine practice in the St. Louis area offering both Allopathic and Functional medicine. Our innovative “Love Your Heart & More” program is a prevention program that identifies risk factors for the top four killers in Western society: Heart disease, Stroke, Cancer and Lung disease, through the amazing FDA cleared adjunctive diagnostic technology of computerized regulation thermometry (CRT) called the AlfaSight. In addition, a comprehensive blood and urine analysis will be done. Then Dr. Salter will give personalized recommendations for a long and healthy life. But the best part is that the “Love Your Heart & More” Program is affordable and effective.
So, don’t delay, call today: 314-395-9777 or email info@drsalter.com Remember what Jim Rohn said: “Take care of your body, it is the only place you have to live!”
You can’t shortcut your way to balance. You must pay attention to your sleep, the fuel you put in your body, drinking enough water, getting pleasure and keeping yourself in touch with the Universe around you. These things are non-negotiable. If you treat these basic needs as the foundation that a healthy life requires, balance will come to you before you know it. JOHN John is a recently retired orthodontist. His hobbies include exercising, photography, playing the piano, chess, golf, traveling, volunteering, and enjoying life to its fullest. John heard about yoga from his orthopedic surgeon friend, Dr. Steve Vierling. Vierling had taken Bikram Yoga in the past and he knew John was having back problems and micro-disc surgery in Sept. 2011 by neuro-surgeon friend Dr. Bob Backer. John discussed it with Dr. Backer post-surgery and received the thumbs up to do the yoga to help with his flexibility. After more post-surgery research John began his yoga practice Spring of 2012. “I love most of all, "all the people" at Pure Hot Yoga. You, your staff and your studio make my day. The yoga helps with my flexibility. It allows me to focus more. It allows to me to calm down and relax and just breathe. It definitely helps me connect my mind, body, and spirit”. DAVID David practices yoga daily to give his adult body the therapy it needs to practice the art of hand balance. Battling against early onset osteoarthritis, David finds that the ideal environment at yoga is the best therapy. Jen’s own Pilates journey started 10 years ago after the birth of her last child. She was feeling sluggish, out of shape, and overwhelmed. Pilates helped her to walk taller, alleviated her back pain, and made her feel great! She was hooked. Jen thought to herself, “I will never have a perfect body, but if I looked as awesome as I feel, everyone would be jealous!”
Both Pilates and Yoga have stood the test of time to provide life changing results. What is the difference, you might ask? Pilates is a series of controlled movements that help you build body awareness, balance, strength and flexibility, whereas Yoga is connecting a pose of the body and breath to increase strength, balance, flexibility and sharper mental focus. Both disciplines help you connect with core muscles, e.g. abdominals, muscles surrounding the pelvis and back muscles, to get better toned and improve your posture. You will always feel better when you leave than when you arrive.
With a background in Occupational Therapy and a strong knowledge of the body and how it works, Jen is able to meet you where your body is at and move it forward from there. Their studio provides an alternative to a typical gym setting. They are dedicated to

Summer is in full force and when you have family and friends over where does everyone gather? If you’re like most people, you’re answer is the kitchen. Kitchens draw people in like moths to flames and in many cases are not designed to accommodate your entire party. In recent years the trend has become to make a second kitchen space outdoors and bridge the gap between the garden and the interior of our homes. There are other advantages to moving the cooking outside as well, such as, removing the heat from indoor cooking especially in the summer months. It is also much easier to have larger gatherings around outdoor kitchens. Hire someone well equipped to build and install your outdoor kitchen of your dreams. Depending on the structure you choose for the base, there are many trades to coordinate together such as electric, gas lines, stone tops and carpentry or stone work so proficiency and experience in building these is essential. Functional use of outdoor space is important for you and for resale value and no other outdoor space requires more attention to detail than the outdoor kitchen. Outdoor kitchens can be just a simple bar top surrounding your grill to complete kitchens with all the appliances you would find in any modern indoor kitchen. Materials to finish outdoor kitchens come in a wide variety of textures and colors with the most popular being clad in stone with granite counter tops. Outdoor kitchens can also be added to existing patio spaces without having to redesign and embark on a major construction project. Finding the right element for your home is what Poynter Landscape Architecture does best. Start the conversation at www.PoynterLandscape. com or call to schedule a consultation.

Revolutionary Treatment for
Osteoporosis
Now Available in St. Louis 38
Yoga & Spa Magazine • Summer 2016
Did you know that there is a natural solution for osteoporosis that doesn't involve medications? It is NOT a gym, diet or a drug. It’s simple, safe and only takes 7-10 minutes once a week. You won’t even break a sweat! It's safe for all conditioning levels, and athletes of all ages love this as well as it increases sports performance! Designed exclusively for OsteoStrong, the most cutting edge (patent pending) osteogenic loading equipment is now available for the first time in St. Louis. Losing bone and muscle tissue is a normal aging process that happens to EVERYBODY, not just women. Healthy diet and exercise can slow that process, but OsteoStrong actually REVERSES that process for bone and muscle tissue by stimulating certain systems in the body. If you were 73% stronger a year from now how much better would you feel? Osteostrong is unique because it can help members experience a rare physiological response that causes the growth of healthy tissue in both bone and muscles. Published clinical research showed postmenopausal women increasing bone density by 14% in just six months. Another published study on pre-type 2 diabetics showed an incredible decrease in HBA1C which is the long term marker for blood glucose levels. In that study, subjects outperformed results from other studies that tested medication, weight training, cardiovascular training and a restricted calorie diet on pre-type 2 diabetics. The supporting research along with hundreds of testimonials show Osteostrong members reversing osteoporosis, improving balance and posture, increasing strength, and reducing or eliminating joint pain. OsteoStrong is the most effective, cuttingedge, fracture prevention in existence today. The science behind their system has been taught in medical schools for over a century, and the 2004 US Surgeon General report stated that axial loading is the ONLY significant, natural way to increase bone density. However, accomplishing it in a safe way that benefits the entire musculoskeletal system was virtually unheard of before OsteoStrong.
The system they use is so profoundly different than anything you can experience anywhere else. The devices allow people to experience these physiological growth triggers in a safe and effective way. It's also sweat free and takes less than 10 minutes once per week. In addition to reversing osteoporosis, it is common for those coming to OsteoStrong to see a positive change in the following symptoms: • Joint and back pain • Loss of flexibility • Decreased reaction time • Nerve pain • Poor posture • Loss of balance • Loss of strength …and enjoy a better life by: • increasing bone density and greatly reducing risk of fracture • Improved balance and agility • Playing better golf, tennis, and team sports • Increasing sports performance • Playing sports…stronger…faster…better • Playing with their grandchildren more often
visits include a balance test, 2 sessions of osteogenic loading, whole body vibration and a bonus hydromassage! Time at OsteoStrong does not mean hours of weight bearing exercises in the gym. It means triggering a completely natural response that will improve bone density, strength and balance. The average increase in balance in only 5 sessions is an outstanding 77%. Bisphosphonate drugs average 1-2% increases in one year while OsteoStrong averages 7-14% bone density increases in 6 months - 1 year. With results such as these, the facts stand for themselves that this is truly a wonderful breakthrough and amazing alternative natural solution for osteoporosis!
Call today to make your appointment for your 2 free sessions! OsteoStrong St. Louis | 12333 Olive Blvd. Creve Coeur, MO 63141 | 314-300-6902 | osteostrongstlouis.com

We are always searching for new ways of enhancing our outer beauty with the latest skin care serum or fad, but we fail to think about our inner beauty - where beautiful skin really comes from. Believe it or not, I'm referring to our colons! Colon hydrotherapy, also known as colonics, is a safe and gentle way to wash away toxins and waste that are polluting our bodies, especially our skin. We live in a stressful and toxic environment, meaning our bodies are constantly being bombarded with toxins. If we are not eliminating them regularly, these toxins that make up fecal matter will start to seep through the colon walls and into the bloodstream. From there, toxins go straight to the skin. Have you ever noticed how lifeless your skin looks after a night out drinking and eating processed foods, or just after a bout of constipation? Ladies, it shows! Your skin is a reflection of how healthy you really are on the inside. Colon health is linked to skin health. When one of our elimination organs gets overburdened, the other organs have to pick up the slack, and since your skin is your largest eliminative organ, it takes the hardest hit. My clients who receive regular sessions have raved about how colonics have cleared up their acne, psoriasis and eczema. The difference is often evident after just one session - radiant, glowing skin! I've seen over and over again, they leave with color in their cheeks and a new found brightness in their eyes. Not only that, but they couldn't be more thrilled that their bellies have flattened out and the scale shows a drop in weight. Colonics are gentle procedures, in which you lay on a massage table in a private relaxing therapy room. The latest state of the art FDA approved equipment gently circulates warm filtered water into your colon, carrying away waste through disposable tubing. There is a private bathroom inside the room. Actresses and royalty have long been advocating colon hydrotherapy. Princess Diana reportedly received three colonics on a weekly basis, freeing herself from anorexia, headaches, fatigue, allergies, depression and candida. By then the tabloids discovered her healthy slim figure was a result of her body's “Royal Flush.” Cate Blanchett has often talked about skin care and the benefits of colonics, describing colonics to be “super hydrating.” Karen Gelb is an advanced certified colon hydrotherapist I-ACT with ten years of experience in the St. Louis area. Over time, she has perfected her techniques and her personal approach to holistic healing and detoxification. She is very excited to incorporate these skills into her own business, Raindrop Colon Hydrotherapy. Now she can really make the colonic experience truly amazing! HEALTH CHALLENGES Dr. Bryan Deloney, Chesterfield, is bringing one of the newest advancements in natural health and healing to local residents. Deloney is helping patients reverse health challenges, such as excess weight, diabetes, sleep apnea, thyroid disorders fibromyalgia and autoimmune issues, using the NutriMost Resonant Frequency Technology (NRF).
Everyone Gains Weight Differently Due to Hormones NRF technology can target your hormone imbalances and get to the cause of your weight gain, overcoming weight loss resistance and solving your weight challenges. First, patients undergo a fast, painless scan of their body’s cells by using the comprehensive electro-impedance resonant frequency (NRF) technology. This allows Dr. Deloney to take a “hormonal fingerprint” of every factor that affects weight gain, including fat burning, fat storage, metabolism, the organs involved, hormones, neurotransmitters, vitamins, minerals, metals, toxins, bacteria, viruses, mycoplasma, candida, parasites and nanobacteria. It gives him the capability of measuring and assisting the body’s innate healing abilities. NRF technology is so advanced and specific it can determine hormone imbalances, organ function weakness, and much more. Deloney explains, “we determine your personal recipe for healthy weight and healing using resonant frequencies”. Using an understanding of resonant frequencies, Dr. Deloney can determine precisely what the body needs to bring it into its optimal fat burning zone and keep it there. This is done by measuring the baseline of each factor being measured (hormone, neurotransmitter, heavy metal, bacteria, virus, organ, etc.), and then the doctor can determine what supplement or formula is needed by observing what the effect of that item is on the baseline (whether it makes it more coherent or less coherent). The program displays the results and identifies the biomarkers (vitamins, minerals, hormones, neurotransmitters, toxins, microbes, etc.) that are out of range regarding the fat burning zone. Once the out-of-range fat biomarkers are identified, the program will determine exactly what is needed to bring the biomarkers back into fat burning. It will identify what is needed nutritionally; but more than that, the foundation of the whole program is the ability to determine the exact “recipe” for each person’s fat burning. The program creates a “recipe” for hormones/ neurotransmitters, a “recipe” for detox and a “recipe” for the fat burning formula. LET THE BALANCING AND HEALING BEGIN! Once in this balance state and fat burning zone: • You experience no hunger or cravings, unlike other weight loss programs • The typical fat loss is between ½ pound and 2 pounds of fat per day • You will have more energy, better sleep, and you will be in a better mood • Your hormones will become more and more balanced • You will enter a state of autophagy, which helps the body overcome all sorts of health challenges

Energy Management = Life Management by Christopher S. Ngo, DO
To-do lists, meetings, emails, children, responsibilities; we are constantly bombarded each day with less and less time to address everything. Recommendations about prioritization and time management are numerous and can be overwhelming themselves. Taking a step back and shifting our perspective can make life more manageable. Think of time management as energy management. We use phrases such as "I don't have the energy to do that" or "this is so draining." Inherently we are allowing situations or people to dictate how we utilize our energy rather than the other way around. A simple approach is to imagine oneself as a battery. As a battery we have two options to conserve energy: we can reserve our energy or we can gain more energy by recharging. By reserving our energy, we determine how much we want to give out. We subconsciously allow people or situations to drain us without our permission. Making a conscious effort in deciding how much to give and what to give allows us to be more aware of where our resources are going. Resources include any physical activity, emotions, and mental work. Why waste our energy on undesirable emotions and thoughts? Eventually, a battery will run out of energy. This is why it is important to find methods of recharging so we can continue to use energy on activities that are meaningful and important to us. Methods of recharging can include exercise, breathing, yoga, energy work, etc. One simple breathing technique we can use is Pranic breathing. This can be performed anywhere to give us a quick boost. 1) Connect your tongue to your palate. 2) Inhale through your nose while letting your belly gently come out. 3) Hold for 1 count. 4) Exhale through your nose while letting your belly go back in. 5) Hold for 1 count. Perform a few cycles and notice any difference. In a MCKS Pranic Healing® course we use methods of scanning to try to validate if a change in the energy field has occurred. This is just one way to quickly give the body more energy. Remember that we are in control of how much energy we want to give. Consciously understanding how energy impacts our life will allow us to then manage our life. Christopher S. Ngo, DO is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and is a Certified Pranic Healing Instructor. Basic Financial Education for Children by C. Michael Unterreiner, ChFC Most children’s financial education starts with an allowance. How much you give them depends in part on what you expect them to buy with it and how much you want them to save. Set parameters. Discuss what they may use the money for and how much should be saved. Older children may earn income from part-time jobs. This enables them to get a greater taste of financial independence. Encouraging savings While children might want to spend all their allowance now, encourage them to divide it up, allowing them to spend some immediately, while insisting they also save toward things they want to buy but can't afford right away. Writing down each goal and the amount that must be saved regularly toward it will help children learn the difference between short-term and longterm goals. As an incentive, you might want to offer to match whatever children save toward their long-term goals. Shopping sense Television commercials and peer pressure constantly tempt children to spend money. But in order to make good buying decisions, teach them how to compare items by price and quality. Encourage children to plan their purchases rather than buying on impulse. Don't be afraid to let them make mistakes. If a toy breaks soon after it's purchased, or doesn't turn out to be as much fun as seen on TV, eventually children will learn to make good choices even when you're not there to give them advice.
Creating a balanced budget Older children may have more expenses and would probably benefit from preparing a budget. To balance a budget, children should subtract their planned expenses from their income (don't include things you will pay for). If they'll be in the black, you can encourage further saving or contributions to their favorite charity. If the results show that your children will be in the red, however, you'll need to come up with a plan to address the shortfall. Devise a system for keeping track of what's actually spent. The future is now Teenagers should be ready to focus on saving for larger goals (e.g., a new computer or a car). While bank accounts may still be the primary savings vehicles for them, you might also want to consider introducing your teenagers to the principles of investing. To do this, open investment accounts for them. Look for accounts that can be opened with low initial contributions at institutions that supply educational materials about basic investment terms and concepts. Helping older children learn about investing may predispose them to take charge of their financial future. Should you give your child credit? If older children (especially those about to go off to college) are responsible, you may think about getting them a credit card. If you decide to cosign the credit card agreement, keep in mind that you're taking on legal liability for the debt, which will appear on your credit report.
Also, ask the credit card company for a low credit limit (e.g., $300) so they’ll be able to pay off the balance every month without danger of getting into serious debt. C. Michael Unterreiner, ChFC, founded Financial Legacy Associates to create an environment where financial professionals could serve their clients better by sharing their experiences and ideas. Since 1992, he has served his clients by recommending investment and insurance solutions to their financial planning, retirement planning, and college funding challenges. 16020 Swingley Ridge Road Suite 100 Chesterfield, MO 63017 | 636-777-7099 mikeu@financiallegac y.com www.financiallegacy.com/michael-unterreiner.html

Lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer Why do children have more tantrums when school is out?
by David Kaufman, Ph.D., ABPP Summertime evokes iconic images of lemonade stands, little league games, and catching fireflies. For many, it is a time to slow down, recharge, and enjoy additional time with family. For some children, however, behavioral problems take center stage this time of year. Tantrums, arguments, and inflexibility can sabotage the many freedoms that summer brings. Parents may find themselves doubting their own parenting instincts, and quick-fix discipline techniques rarely have lasting effects. Psychological difficulties in children often become more evident in the summer, as the lack of routine exposes problems that may go unnoticed during the school year. One common problem is Attention-deficit/
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which results from core deficits in the regulation of attention and self-control. However, children can lose their sense of self-control for many other reasons, including anxiety, learning disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. When parents find themselves feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and desperate for answers, it is important to uncover the nature of the underlying problem. In his classic book, The Explosive Child, psychologist Ross Greene, Ph.D., notes that most challenging behaviors in children are triggered when they are not equipped to meet the expectations placed on them. When a child’s developing cognitive skills cannot
keep up with demands, strong emotions take over. To prevent these meltdowns, parents may need a little help in uncovering the roots of their child’s behavioral inflexibility. Neuropsychological assessment provides a detailed roadmap for identifying effective behavioral interventions. Evaluations are designed to identify an individual’s unique cognitive strengths and weaknesses by testing a wide variety of abilities. Although many evidence-based treatments are available for children with psychological problems (see www.effectivechildtherapy.org), accurate diagnosis of the underlying issue is crucial. For parents counting the days until school begins in August, a neuropsychological evaluation can be a powerful step towards beating the summer blues and planning for the year ahead. David Kaufman, Ph.D., ABPP, is a boardcertified clinical neuropsychologist, psychology professor at Saint Louis University, and owner of Gateway Neuropsychology, located at 989 Gardenview Office Parkway, St. Louis, MO 63141. 4 Natural Remedies for Fibromyalgia by Dr. Dan Gogliotti If you’ve suddenly been feeling aches and pains in your body for some inexplicable reason, then you have to read this. You could be suffering from fibromyalgia, which affects hundreds of thousands of people between the ages of 20 and 50.
Furthermore, taking different combinations of drugs can result in a real problem, especially when you want to slow down or stop the medication. In many cases, some of these pain relievers can be quite addicting, and have some serious side effects!
Now, you may be wondering, what is fibromyalgia and how did you get it?
There are many contributing factors to fibromyalgia, including chronic inflammation and stress (both emotional and physical).
What is Fibromyalgia? Fibromyalgia is a chronic inflammatory disorder, characterized by muscle pain, joint pain and fatigue. Patients who suffer from fibromyalgia usually feel these symptoms: Tenderness Stiffness Unbearable pain Chronic tiredness Gastrointestinal problems Sleep disorder problems Concentration problems Depression For a disease with no known cause, fibromyalgia affects a lot of people—at least 5 million in the U.S. alone, and 9 out of 10 people who suffer with fibromyalgia are female. Treating Fibromyalgia With Conventional Drugs Since the leading symptom of fibromyalgia seems to be muscle and body pain, medical doctors have tried to treat the symptoms with conventional drugs including painkillers and antidepressants. However, these methods of treatment do not seem to be effective long-term solutions. First of all, most analgesic painkillers are very mild, and given the level of chronic pain that a majority of people with fibromyalgia experience, the results aren’t very effective at all. If you have fibromyalgia, chances are you’re suffering from all sorts of pains and aches, and taking multiple drug combinations can lead to serious side effects that can drastically interfere with how you live day-to-day life.
If you really want to fix the problem, you must address the root cause. Many studies suggest that certain lifestyle changes can be more than enough to keep fibromyalgia at bay. If you’re looking for natural remedies for fibromyalgia, consider the following: 1. Eat Anti-Inflammatory Nutrients Inflammation can cause a range of health problems, including muscle and joint pain. A German study found that anti-inflammatory antioxidants found in black and green teas, red onion, broccoli, and tomato can naturally reduce inflammation that can help fibromyalgia. Also, omega-3 fats can naturally reduce inflammation. If you’re going to purchase a fish oil, make sure you only buy a high-quality fish oil, high in antioxidants like astaxanthin and low in mercury. 2. Reduce Stress and Anxiety A review in Neuroscientist found significant association between fibromyalgia and abuse in both adults and children. If you haven’t dealt with past issues in your life, I strongly encourage you to find a good counselor who can help you begin to heal emotionally. Schedule some fun and relaxation into your life! Stress can raise cortisol levels and inflammation markers, which contribute to fibromyalgia symptoms. 3. Seek Chiropractic Care Research published in Best Practice and Research Clinical Rheumatology reports neck trauma causing spinal, joint and muscular injuries increases the risk of developing fibromyalgia. Chiropractic care
works to correct spinal misalignments and correct posture through spinal adjustments and rehabilitative spinal exercises. Also, patients with fibromyalgia have been shown to have hyperactivity of the sympathetic nervous system. Upper cervical spinal adjustments have been shown to have a positive effect by decreasing hyperactivity. 4. Address Nutritional Deficiencies Studies have shown supplementing with magnesium can help with fibromyalgia symptoms and physicians recommend taking 250–300 milligrams twice daily. Some magnesium-rich foods include pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, cocoa, almonds, spinach, halibut and black beans. Try to get as many nutrients as possible from the foods you eat, and supplement with anything that you are still lacking. If you or someone you love is suffering with fibromyalgia, and would like help looking over natural options, I am here to help. Call 314-394-1923 to schedule your consultation today. PRP - orthopedics by Dr. Russell T. Imboden, DO Have you been injured and are ready to get back in the game? Have you been dealing with an old or continuous pain that simply won’t go away or get better? Then it’s time to consider Regenerative Injection Therapy, an emerging treatment approach that helps stimulate the body’s own natural healing powers. Platelet activation plays a key role in the process of wound and soft tissue healing. The use of platelet rich plasma (PRP), a portion of the patient’s own blood - having a platelet concentration above baseline - to promote the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints, can be applied to various orthopedic issues or injuries. Several clinical studies have demonstrated that PRP injections have improved function, aided in repair, re-grew damaged or frayed tissue, and helped to decrease or eliminate pain from various conditions, including: • Osteoarthritis of knee, shoulder, hip, and spine • Rotator cuff tears (shoulder) • Chronic plantar fasciitis (feet) • ACL injuries (knee) • Pelvic pain (instability) • Back/neck injuries • Tennis elbow • Ankle sprains • Ligament sprains • Tendonitis How does PRP help heal the body? The body’s first response to soft tissue injury is to deliver platelet cells to the area. Packed with growth and healing factors, platelets initiate repair and attract the critical assistance of stem cells. With PRP’s natural
46
Yoga & Spa Magazine • Summer 2016
healing process, it intensifies the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets directly into the injured area. Thus, promoting a faster healing response. To create PRP, a small sample of your own blood is drawn (similar to a lab test sample) and placed in a medical device that spins the blood at a higher rate of speed, separating the platelets from other components. The process is conducted by a trained lab technician while you wait, producing higher concentrations of platelets and a purer concentration of beneficial components of the blood. The PRP from your own blood is then injected into and around the point of your injury, jump-starting and significantly strengthening the healing process. Because your own blood is used, there is no risk of a transmissible infection and a low risk of allergic reaction. Performed safely in our office, PRP therapy relieves pain without the risks of surgery, general anesthesia, or hospital stays without a prolonged recovery. In fact, most people return to their jobs, or usual activities, right after the procedure. How Often Should the Procedure be done? Although this will vary by patient and by need, up to three injections may be given within a six-month timeframe. Often, people gain considerable or complete relief after the initial or second treatment. How is PRP different from cortisone injections? With Regenerative Injection Therapy, inflammation - a natural part of the healing
response - is used to help kick-start the body’s inflammation and tissue regeneration process. Cortisone injections treat symptoms by getting rid of inflammation in and around the affected joint. PRP aims to address the root cause of ailments, while cortisone simply treats the effect. PRP can treat and heal a wide range of orthopedic injuries, which can often be difficult to treat. The wide use of PRP therapy has expanded over the last couple of years, due to its success rate and popularity with professional athletes. However, PRP can be used to treat people of all age groups, backgrounds, interests and professions. Dr. Imboden’s practice is located on Wolfram Road in Weldon Spring. To learn more about the PRP therapy and Dr. Imboden’s services, visit drrussellimboden.com.

Critical Mass: Food Sensitivity Testing Find out if your diet is strengthening or weakening your immune system by TJ Williams, DC, PhD Each and every one of us is unique - we have different genetics; we are different sizes and shapes; we have different life experiences. Likewise, we should not all be eating the same things. We have been taught that certain foods are “healthier” than others, but this is not entirely true. The foods we eat will either build us up or break us down. And just because a food has been identified as a “health food” does not necessarily mean the food is healthy for you. Surprisingly, even though a particular food does not cause an immediate allergic or lifethreatening reaction, the food may still be hurting you. In fact, the foods you believe to be healthy may actually be contributing to some of your health concerns or symptoms without you even knowing it.
If you are sensitive to a particular food, that food can cause immune reactions in your body for up to 72 hours after you eat it. These delayed reactions can create a whole host of symptoms, many of which you may not even attribute to the foods you are eating. A partial list of common symptoms caused by food sensitivities can be seen in Table 1. With such a potentially long time between the consumption of a food and the reaction, it is virtually impossible to identify the offending foods without proper testing. We know that disease generally begins with a weakened immune system. If you are eating foods to which you are unknowingly sensitive, you are tearing yourself down day after day, month after month, year after year. Because of this, even mild sensitivities will eventually catch up to you and, all the while, it could have been prevented.

We have had many patients in our clinic who are shocked to find out that the broccoli, kale, or lettuce they force themselves to eat each day is actually weakening their immune system. Trying to eat a healthy diet without knowing your food sensitivities is akin to playing a game without knowing the rules—it is highly improbable that you will ever “win.” If you are interested in finding out what foods you or your loved ones are sensitive to, visit us at the Institute of Natural Health.
