s ’ r o Editpda=te U Here we are again, with another SUMMER issue of YOGURT Culture Zine! We've had a busy past couple months with getting our inventory together, printing new issues, making new stickers, and tabling at events!! Emily and I attending an event called SACRAMENTO ZINE FEST 2019 - the flyer is to the right, and a photo of our booth above. We were overjoyed at the number of people who showed up to support zines and local art. We made a lot of new connections, and I'm officially addicted to zine fests. We're looking into attending more in the Sacramento area, and possibly San Francisco if we're lucky! Anyhow, thank you for picking up this issue and reading through it (at least this paragraph). This zine project means a lot to me, and it's such a huge source of personal joy; I get to meet with old friends and new friends and make art. Please have fun with this issue of FRUIT! We worked hard on it!! - Brian

days 2019 r u t a S 9, Last June 2

This Spring, I had recently taken a trip to Japan for 2 months. During my travels, I had the opportunity to see many amazing sights, make new friends, and learned a lot about Japanese culture. There were definitely days where I struggled and learned some hard life lessons, but it made me a stronger individual. I had learned how to rely only on myself and keep myself in a good headspace. With the bad, there are surely good days. Taking in the scenery and relearning to enjoy the simple joys of life. Every interaction and moment that I had with strangers had given me a new perspective on how I interact in my daily life. I had visited a strawberry farm in Minamikyushu, Kagoshima. Which is located at the southern part of Japan. The scenery in this particular area is rolling mountains of lush vegetation, bamboo, and other various trees. Being that Kagoshima is a tropical setting, it's humid and you will often see clouds and mist. I had felt at ease for the first time in weeks. Since I had spent a lot of time in Tokyo, I wanted to enjoy some quiet time. I was so excited to finally see some Japanese countryside. Upon arriving at the farm, I was immediately drawn to the sound of Black Kite (Milvus migrans), tonbi . These birds have been a symbol for Japanese Summer. Alongside with the Cicada (Cicadoidea), higurashi . I was able to meet with the owner for a quick moment. We took a photo together after I had picked a large batch of fresh strawberries. Each one was juicy, tender, and sweet. Nostalgic with every bite. I had wished that I could have made a strawberry roll cake or strawberry jelly. There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh strawberries. - Emily

There's nothing quite like a juicy watermelon on a hot day, or tart grapefruit for breakfast with a glass of pulpy orange juice. Come celebrate the refreshing and plump little parcels of flavor in this ooey gooey issue of YOGURT Culture Zine!

Candy Apple Heart Sweet like first love Bitter like heartbreak Mealy like something forgotten at the bottom of a lunch pail Crisp like new beginnings Sour like disappointment Rotten like the worm-eaten holes left behind But I can dust it off Polish it up Coat it in syrupy sweetness And make it like new Over and over Again and again

You're just a sprinkle on the sundae. "This newest piece goes on the wall or as a mound. Those are real oranges from my brother's tree - I juiced them and then got so attached to the rinds so I dehydrated them without knowing their exact path, and decided they fit into this florida-y piece. Also used spray foam for the first time which for some reason I didn't think was toxic because of its whipped cream friendly non smelly vibes? But ten minutes after I used the whole can my throat and sinuses were burning and I lost my voice and couldn't swallow. A week later got diagnosed with chemical bronchitis/got antibiotics and inhaler! WTF guys. I've been so healthy without even a cold for 14 months; I was pissed! I need to perma-install a mask on my face. I had ZERO voice for five days while I was visiting my family in Florida, which was a shame because there was so much to catch up on; especially with my Grannie who is almost 102, but can't hear well and I could only whisper the softest whisper. Gave cuddles instead. IMPORTANT: the synchronicity of losing my voice after years of silencing myself in certain situations was a huge warning to not take my thoughts and ability to verbally express for granted! I made some big deals with the universe about what I would do if I got it back, about assertiveness and giving appreciations and also SINGING. And It's pretty much there, but now I sound like a smoker; it's kinda cute. In a trashy way, I guess."

Beautiful culture right off the bracket and vine. Engorged global creature and in other fun things to say. Lest me repeat it. Engaged consumer treats words that tend to create matter only partially mean it. You have purpose. Realize like seeding roots and surface. You taste tenderness that much sweeter. Fair seize. What remains cross pollinating veins of like minds. Nothing more enticing than that coming of procured random fruit. What sets knowing more feels like ripe for the telling. July will bring passionate heat to render those juicy and sweet, for celebration has beginnings with new friends. Seasons go and come, something about summer though.

GALAXY FRUIT I saw a strange booth at the Fair... "Here's one for you," said the man. "Step right up, and try my Galaxy Fruit... It looks like a night sky, Covered in stars It tastes like a universe... Smells like Mars... It'll give you daydreams, Light up the corners of your mind, Try it, just peel off the rind..." So I did, tenderly drawing off the skin, Taking a bite... Wondering what would happen, thinking it might... Taste like wishes and dreams and stardust, Maybe mixed with apples, cinnamon, Peaches that remind you of summer... But instead, I feasted on ripe glittering moonstone, Crunching satisfaction. "Ah," I replied, "so that's what a Galaxy Fruit tastes like..."
