The majority of golfers practice only occasionally but even the avid amateurs will find that time constraints limit their opportunities. Here are some suggestions for practice: • Take the time to make practice swings before every shot. Remember, your authentic swing is your practice swing. Trust it. • Make practice swings with your eyes closed in order to feel your balance and hand placement, movement and timing. • Visualize a straight line to the target and a straight plane angle between the club shaft and the ball.

Jen

Casey

Meet the new members of the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) — Family Support Coordinator, Jen Wong, and her service dog, Casey. Jen EFMP is personal to Jen. In her early 20s, she was diagnosed with a rare cancer and she still struggles with mobility issues. She has lived the day-to-day pressures of exceptional needs and truly understands what the families in her care are going through. Jen has filled many shoes in her time with EFMP. Jen started her career with EFMP as a Trainer, speaking at conferences and training commands and families. She later became a Family Case Manager, working with individual families. In her role at Yokota, Jen works with families to determine their goals and needs, and then directs them to the appropriate resources. She also provides training and counseling on special education, self-care and transitions (e.g., school transitions, moves, deployments or TDYs). EFMP hosts support groups, events and recreational activities for families to facilitate networking and promote fun in an inclusive environment. Any family affected by exceptional needs, whether enrolled in EFMP or not, qualifies for the family support services that Jen offers through the Airman and Family Readiness Center. She even welcomes those who cannot technically enroll to come and take advantage of her services. Her main goal is to empower families with tools and resources.

Jen’s main goal is to empower families with tools and resources

ABout EFMP EFMP is a community support program for families of exceptional needs. Exceptional needs encompass medical, educational or mental health. A medical need covers anything from some forms of asthma to diabetes, blindness, ADHD, autism and many other conditions. Educational needs include an equally wide range, from children who are enrolled in special education to little ones who are receiving early intervention such as speech therapy. EFMP serves both children and adult family members. Families can self-enroll into EFMP or they can be recommended for enrollment by their first shirts or helping organizations.

Casey Like her owner, Casey is extremely passionate, hardworking, and kind. Casey’s first and main priority is to assist Jen with her mobility issues. On the days Jen is not feeling well and has to use a wheelchair or cane, Casey is trained to pick things up off the floor, take the laundry out of the dryer, or help pull Jen’s wheelchair if she’s on a high incline ramp. Most importantly, if Jen is alone and falls, Casey is trained to stand next to Jen and act as a brace, bark for help or even go get a cellphone so Jen can call for help. Because of Jen’s career, Casey is also temperament trained to be around a variety of people and is especially good with children. Jen’s clients love her laid-back and loving demeanor. Jen and Casey are very much alike in their personality and it doesn’t take long to see that they’re also both passionate about their jobs. When asked what she loves about her job, Jen answered, “I love that it’s different every day. I love that I get to work with some of the most resilient, strong, passionate families that you can find in the military. These are families that “I love that I on top of the military lifestyle — on top of moving around, get to work with on top of deployments some of the most — they have these added obstacles or hardships within resilient, strong, their own family dynamics and they keep it rolling … These passionate families families are rocking it and that’s in the military” what I love. I love working with the families.”
