YCP Community
Without the generous support of the York College (YCP) community, including alumni and current students, the College could not exist as it does today. We recently sat down with Madison Cook ’24, two-time Rock the Socks Contest winner, and Julie Kulp ’13, current Young Alumni Council member, to discover why giving to York College is so special. Here’s what they had to say.
What is/was your major?
Madison: Medical Laboratory Science
Julie: Sport Management
Why did you decide to contribute to YCP?
Madison: To give back to future generations and to continue improving our beloved York College.
Julie: I support York College because I had a great experience as a student. The benefits of a liberal arts education help me in my career every day, and I care about keeping my alma mater among the top colleges in the country. As a first-generation student, scholarships and financial aid impacted me in such a way that I now feel it is my duty to pay it forward and give back to others.
What has been your most memorable experience at YCP?
Madison: My time at York has been filled with many memorable experiences because of my involvement on campus. I’ve had two on-campus jobs, one as a cashier at the Bookstore, and my second job as a Fellow for
[first-year students] in their First-Year Seminar (FYS) classes. Alongside these two jobs, I’ve also participated in many clubs, activities, and Greek life. I have been a member of Phi Mu, Phi Sigma Pi, [the] Campus Activity Board, played club knocker soccer, and of course, competed in the Rock the Socks design contest. All of [these] have offered their own unique opportunities and experiences.
Julie: My professors were so impactful that I still keep in touch with a lot of them. As a development professional in higher education, I understand the value of networking and maintaining relationships with past mentors. I am also going into my fifth year on the York College Young Alumni Council, and I love still being connected to my alma mater. York College is growing every day in so many ways, and I enjoy being able to [have] a front row seat.
What would you say to someone who’s thinking about giving back to the College?
Madison: As a student at York College of Pennsylvania, I gave and would encourage others to give to our College that helped so many of us achieve our goals here and [enabled us to] give back to the College for future generations of students.
Julie: Do it! Every gift makes a difference. Not only do gifts add up quickly, but you feel good about it, too. By giving back to York College, the institution’s national ranking increases, making the value of every degree from YCP look better.
