Art and design history is an integral part of the qualification and supports the students work in the studios and workshops.

Mimi Addis My final major project is a 2D stop motion animation made using cut paper. I am passionate about the changes we can all make as individuals to make our planet a better place for all beings. I wanted to break away from the usual discouraging information we are given about the state of the world and how this leaves us feeling that one person cannot make a difference. The animation is titled ‘impacts’ and I have the hope that it will refresh and inspire people to start making small but significant changes.

Lucy Anson My project title was ‘Animals and People’ and for my final piece I made this book called ‘Goodnight Dug’ that captures mythical creatures and shape-shifting animals. This whimsical, fantasy book is targeted towards children and I created it digitally using the software Procreate and then getting the pages professionally put together into a book. I’m very happy with the outcome and I’m excited to make more art when I hopefully go on to do my Illustration BA at Nottingham Trent University in September. Until then I have got a lot of people wanting to buy the books and I also will be going back to doing commissioned art works over the summer.

Keldy Appleyard My project was based on the Tropical Rainforest. I chose this because I like the bright colours and interesting animals. For this project I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new techniques. I used medias such as acrylic, gouache, brusho ink and batik to collect a range of initial drawings. I then developed these into designs for baby clothing and bedrooms. For my next step I will be going to study textile design at Leeds Arts University. I am looking forward to this and cannot wait to develop my skills further.

Iyla Battye My project is called “Lads” and its about my 3 best mates Brook, Dan and Joe. I chose to do my project on lads because throughout my whole life I’ve always been friends with boys even when I was a baby because I have 2 older brothers, so it’s something I know alot about . I deceived to take photos and videos of my mates over a couple of months just doing things that every teenage boy does . I chose to do a simple photo book with no words because I wanted the pictures and the videos to tell their own story ! I don’t know where I’m going from here but I promise it won’t be boring.

Fiona Begg I created my project ‘A feminine world’ to look at themes of feminism and what it meant to be classed as feminine in society throughout generations. My final outcome is a 3D spiral installation that spins, which is covered in old family photographs that travel through my female family’s lives, from my grandma’s childhood all the way too my younger sisters’ current ventures. This was paired with a lot of contrasting materials in the work such as embroidery, fabrics and lace as well as metal wire, bolts and welding as a nod too female artists being pressured to work in feminine ways, as well as too study further into the history of gender stereotypes. I am extremely happy with the outcome of this work and will hopefully be studying Fine art at Leeds arts university this coming term, to expand my knowledge and practice as a young artist.

Bella Bloomfield-Smith Architectural Elements, a collection of 3 solid concrete lamps designed with inspiration of modern, minimalist and brutalist architecture. The lamps were individually made by pouring concrete into hand made wooden moulds. I have created small pieces of modern art by taking inspiration from some of the biggest and unusual buildings in modern architecture.

Sam Bulmer My project ‘Environments & Planets’ was inspired by art in games and concept art, and with this, I wanted to create illustrations that depicted otherworldly landscapes. For my final pieces, I designed a planet - ‘Pallas’; within this world, I illustrated two environments, these being ‘Kratos’ depicting a mountainous region, and also a scene with ethereal clouds to portray the atmosphere of the planet. For the future, I want to develop and refine my skills in creating environments, and to achieve this - I will be going to university to study Games Art, to help myself pursue environment art professionally.

Rachel Carney The theme for my project was the coast and I took most of my inspiration from photos I had taken. I began by designing patterns and I then designed living room and kitchen interiors using these patterns. I decided to experiment with mono printing and screen printing, from there I chose to screen print my pattern onto fabric to make into cushion covers. Finally, I made a 3D model of a living room to bring all my ideas together. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and I look forward to going on to study Interior Design at Huddersfield.

Kieran Michael Cheesman My final major project was manufactured around applying plants in various different ways into a loft apartment style. I created some digital plant prints which evolved into my own furniture range, kitchen handle designs and complete with a room plan and some perspective outcomes. This project had endless possibilities although I am happy with my final result. Additionally, I will be progressing my interior design journey in University.

Natalie Chiu I have always been interested in interiors and how people interact in different aesthetically pleasing environments, so I dedicated my FMP to a Japanese aesthetic called “wabi-sabi” which means to appreciate the beauty that are imperfect, incomplete and impermanent in nature. As a part of my final piece, I produced 2 design visuals both of which show different perspectives of an open living room / kitchen that embrace nature by using only natural resources. Starting this September, I will be studying interior design at either University of Arts London or Northumbria University with the dream to help improve our environment in the future.

Ren Collins My aim for this project was to explore the perception of self along with how technology has failed people, exploring how people view and present themselves. I wanted to create art which would take something that in the media is seen as ugly, ‘imperfect’ and something which needs to be changed or edited and change it into something which can be appreciated. I wanted to explore the way we view and present ourselves and the way it can change when we are around different people.

Nadja Cudworth My Final Major Project is a photo exhibition based on “The Seven Deadly Sins”. For each sin I created a head out of a material representing its sin and took a photoshoot of their destruction - my project was heavily influence by auto-destructive art. Following this course, I will be studying a BA in “Creative Arts Practice” at Bath Spa University in 2022.

Amiee Dawson Love Will Save Your Soul is a memoir dedicated to my hometown ‘Peterlee’ in the North-East of England – I wanted to create an installation to represent the idea of the memories being ‘cemented’ in my mind forever somewhat conveying ill never forget my roots and where I’ve came from. The use of concrete was a nod to the brutalism sculpture The Apollo Pavilion built by Victor Pasmore in the 1960s – an artist that worked closely with Peterlee Council to create a modernist town to settle. As well as that the concrete represents the struggles I’ve faced throughout my childhood and early teenage years that once weighed me down preventing me to enjoy life as a child should, this work was a big ‘up yours’ to those struggles and how I’ve came out stronger than ever. In the future I’ll be studying Fine Art at Leeds Arts University which I’m super excited for – hopefully this will help me flourish as an Artist and one day become successful. Maybe I’ll have exhibitions all around the world.

Ebony Earp-Mawson I decided to base my project on Entomology as I have always had a fascination for insects and the environment which surrounds them. Each insect has its own qualities and characteristics which makes it important and a necessity in our everyday lives. I started off this project by producing generic research on insects, most specifically beetles, moths, butterflies and caterpillars. After experimenting with colours, shapes, patterns and textures, I decided that I wanted to focus all my attention onto beetles and use them for my final piece. My specialist area is surface pattern design and I wanted to incorporate a taste of fashion into my project, which is why I chose to make tote bags for my final product. I am absolutely in love with the outcomes and I am very proud of the work which I have produced. If I had an extended amount of time, I would print these designs onto surfaces of face masks, bandanas and hair scrunchies to match the tote bags in the fashion range. I would also create a range for interiors which could include wallpapers, fabrics, cushions and stool covers, as well as a stationary range for pencil cases, packaging and other equipment.

Ed Farrell Project Title: “The Night of the Iron Spider” My project was inspired by retro Sci-Fi and Horror. I created a movie trailer for a fictional Sci-Fi movie set in the late 1960s, where a giant alien landing craft invades a small village in the English countryside. I built miniature models and sets to create many of the shots for the video, using wires and stop motion to animate the alien landing craft. I also designed posters for the movie, taking inspiration from film posters from the early twentieth century. In the future I am going to study at Kingston University, I later hope to become an Illustrator or an Animator.

Alexandra Field My project is an interior based around two themes. The main theme being Hygge, which is a Danish word for a mood of cosiness and comfort, and the other being Skiing. Therefore, for my Final Major Project I designed a Hygge inspired chalet living room interior. As well as designing the interior I also made pieces such as cushions which would go in the interior if it were to be brought to life. To create the cushions I designed the patterns and then screen printed them onto fabric. This project has been something I’ve really enjoyed doing so hopefully it will open up the next doors for me as I plan to go on to study Interior Design at Northumbria University in Newcastle.

The Fourth Drawer To explain my project would be to go against what this piece is about. The viewer takes what they want from it. If you refuse to think then do not look. I want to go to university and continue to make art that pushes boundaries. If I could speak for my art piece it will have no future, I will only remember the artist research and I will not be anchored down by this Piece. As soon as I remember the piece it makes a standard which means I have room to be worse which will dictate how I view ideas.

Elen Golding My project’s theme that I came up with is ‘Retro Sci-Fi’, which encompasses mostly the areas of illustrative advertisement of sci-fi movies, books, comics/graphic novels, etc, from each decade from 1930 until 1990. I ended up making a concertina containing seven different painted then printed posters each in the style of which was popular from each decade for movie posters in the sci-fi area. I don’t really know what I want to do in the future yet, all I know is that I want to stay in some kind of creative area and am able to keep utilising my imagination and creative side.

Rosie Goldthorpe For my final major project, I wanted to create something outdoors for the local community of my village to bring people together in a shared space. I chose Escrick Green as it is an already accessible green space, available to everyone in the village. To provide a flexible space for a range of people and activities I have added to the green lots of unique, small interventions ranging from an allotment garden, a seating area, and a playground to an amphitheatre. To tie all the interactive elements together there are a series of circular glass canopies that lead you through the site.

Jamie Gough My video project ‘Disconnector’ highlights the effects of technology in the way it negatively impacts our lives and wellbeing. Targeted as an ad campaign to convince people to give up their technology, it follows the struggles a young person faces in the technology driven world we live in today. I really enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone with this project, it was a real challenge producing an engaging and effective video ad. In the future, I will continue to develop my video and animation at university and incorporate these into my work.

Rebecca Graham The title of my project is Festival Architecture. This project title allowed me to experiment a lot throughout the project with unconventional designs and a lot of creative freedom within my designs. The setting of the festival was at the beach. I constantly drew inspiration from all aspects of the beach. For my Final major project, I designed a communal area intended as a social and relaxing area for people attending the festival. The final design was largely influenced by all kinds of shapes within shells. Throughout my project I experimented as much as possible with model making, as a way to generate ideas.

Dan Gray For my Final Major project I made a stool in the arts and craft movement. I screen printed and upholstered the cushion on the top of the stool. I then attached this to the wooden tri and legs which were turned on a lathe. The wood is also stained to match the colour of the cushion on top. The pattern on the fabric is a road map of York and the surrounding areas. The curves on the legs and trim are also inspired by nature.

Jade Halstead For my final project I wanted it to be personal to me. Choosing pride allowed me to express myself and the LGBT community through fashion. I photographed Georgia in my outfit and added a pride flag to give it the feeling of being at a pride parade and celebration. To present these photos I designed 3 posters including my own typography and colour scheme. Throughout all my project I used fabric manipulation whilst also including plenty of experimentation for the final outfit. Now that I have finished Art Foundation I am furthering my education at Lancashire central university.

Keira Hallam I decided to make this project about fairies to challenge myself creatively as I pushed myself in a direction that I wouldn’t usually go in. In the past, my projects have been a bit darker, so I enjoyed the different approach. From here I’m going to study Fashion Design at the University of Brighton where I can mix all my favourite art forms, namely fashion, photography and film and I’m excited to explore my creativity and see where it takes me!

Kristine Haritonova My final project was based on my favourite book “Looking for Alaska”. This book inspired me to portray suffering as a living being full of pain. Its thin legs are unable to extinguish the weight of its body. It is hunched over from the pain that overwhelms it. It’s facelessness suggests that suffering does not belong to anyone, that this is a problem that everyone can face. I put the broken fragments of mirrors in the recesses of the heads, so everyone can see themselves in this being. In the future I am planning to study Sculpture at Glasgow School of Art.

Georgia Hartley For my final major project I wanted to create a statement piece you would see at a fashion show rather than a typical garment, I based it upon the ocean and its components. I decided to design and make a dress with dramatic long flowing arms mimicking the free dancing movement of seaweed when submerged in water. To further push my project I also created makeup looks inspired by the ocean, and designed a final makeup look using prosthetics and shells from the beach, tying my final garment and research I collected within the project together. The Art foundation has helped me grow and given me a set of transferable skills I will be able to take forward into university. I am going on to study Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics for Performance at London College of Fashion.

Chloe Hatch My work featured, is about the Representation of Women in Greek mythology and how it relates to the representation of women in the modern era. It is a ceramic piece consisting of broken pieces of the female body made from air drying clay and glazed stoneware. My plan for the future is to get into Northumbria University to study Fine Art, where I hope to get the chance to experiment more with ceramics as it’s an area I only just started working in for this project.

Freya Hayes My project is titled ‘Queerness,’ it’s an exploration and celebration of queer people and culture. Beginning this project, I knew nothing of and had found no place in the LGBTQ+ community, despite being part of it. I learnt so much through the research l did, including that loving queer relationships aren’t often seen, and the portrayal of queer people is frequently negative or stereotypical, leading to a prejudiced perception of LGBTQ+ people and their relationships. This is what my project is about, I wanted to portray loving, real relationships between queer women. The letters are love notes and correspondence between women who have been in love through time, presented in a recognisably queer space. For now, I am taking a gap year to experience the world outside of education. I’m very excited to be starting my Fine Art BA at The University of the Arts London’s Chelsea College in September 2022.

Ruby Hollins This project is a recreation of an illustrated book I made when I was eight. The story is titled, The Millennium Forest. Around the time I created the Millennium Forest my dad had just died. I used art as a therapeutic means this includes the making of books like this one. And so I looked further into how art therapy can help people. The final piece for this project is a photographic artists book. I looked at the stick figures from the original and turned them into 3D models and sets that in the end became a book. This project has given me the platform to explore lots of new ways to be resourceful with materials, which I’m sure will be helpful when I go to university next year.

Niamh Jackson My final major project is based on the 1970’s and for my final outcome I made a pair of flared trousers, with my own pattern digitally printed onto the cotton fabric. I also used some old family photos to focus so much of the project on. I feel that my FMP went well because even though it was my first time making a piece of clothing the trousers actually turned out good and I was happy with how the print looked on the fabric. Next year I’m planning to do the Foundation course and then hopefully go on to university and study Fashion Communication.

Jake Leeman This project was about exploring the evolution of heroic traits through ancient Greece and to the modern era. I added humour because I like being funny, although my jokes are bad. In future, I hope to become an animator and an animation director, so I can make my own animated films. I want to create a fascinating story, and not something traditional. I also want to work on making animations for online creators and make something unique to them. I hope to make people happy and feel inspired by my animations as I get better and better at making them.

Beth Lingard My project was based around Spring. I aimed to show the physical transition through the season, while also focusing on the individual months within Spring. I created 3 posters that symbolised March, April, and May. I also created a set of tote bags with my printed designs. This project has been so enjoyable for me, I loved the subject matter and found it very comforting observing the nature and wildlife around me, especially during these uncertain times. Next year, I am going to study Illustration at The University of Edinburgh, I am very excited to continue creating the art I love.

Pearl Liu-Clarkson My final major project tis based on the era 2000s but I also looked at stereotype. For my final piece I ended up creating a look-book relating to my theme gender stereotypes. I feel that my look book turned out really well because I think that the styling and choice of clothing was good for the photos I wanted to have in my final outcome. I also feel that my project went well as I made some colourful earrings in shapes that link to my theme. Next year I’m planning on going to university to study Fashion Communication with business studies.

Kady Loftus My project was based on sustainable fashion. vWith the recent outbreak of Corona virus this year it really got me thinking about trying to make use of materials and fabrics we already have to hand at home, and how instead of buying new clothes all the time we all have the capability to recycle and use scrap fabrics and you can still end up with a trendy and expensive look. I ended up creating a jacket made solely from recycled/ reused materials for my final piece.I really enjoyed this final major project and feel I have learnt a lot from it. I am looking forward to learning even more when studying at Northumbria University on the Fashion BA course in September.

Sam Martindale My project was based on the over sexualisation of women and how it can affect women to the point of feeling trapped. I chose this project as I know many people who can’t even walk down the street without being treat like a piece of meat this being why the model of the dress is also wrapped in cling film to show how she is treated. The dress itself is also made out of cling film and dyed using ink and acrylic paint and also PVA to help the structure of the dress hold. The final piece itself is an instillation displaying all the work I created throughout the project underneath the chicken wire to again show how women can feel trapped.

Zoë McCorrie Stately homes in the 1800s So the themes I was going for with this project is basically all around the 1800s and the things they wore and where they lived etc. I usually (before COVID) would go visit stately homes because I think they’re fascinating. I tried to represent them in my work as you can see the journey through it exactly why I used blue satin for the dress with pearls and flowers from the interior. I hope to in the future start a brand with all the things I’ve learnt recently. I’ve already got a job lined up with a friend who has just finished uni and is hoping to start a business very soon so that will be exciting.

Nathan Mills Yorkshire Steam Through The 50s & 60s, in a nutshell was a project based around the the steam railways in Britain through the 50s & 60s at a time where the railways were battered by two world wars and steam traction was drawing to a close, with the new Beeching report coming into affect. I wanted to show this time through modelling so I built just over a 2 ½ ft viaduct synonymous to the Yorkshire stone built ones of similar design like seen on the NYMR today. But, instead of just building a bridge I wanted to show age and the rundown effect that the environment the railways ran through was in. This meant covering pretty much 90% of the model in a black paint to replicate the soot and effects of the smoke from the steam trains that ran until their complete withdrawal. In one of the photos a figure can be seen stood at the top of some steps. This figure is in fact a scale version of a 1960s policeman. I hope to in the future that is go on to join the police, so this recognition is somewhat a hint to the possible forthcoming that I hope to succeed in.

Megan Norman My Project was based on Folklore, Myths and Legends! I wanted to create my own folklore that could turn the explainable into an unexplainable force with a strong connection to my hometown of York. I’ve always been interested in the supernatural and their stories, so being able to have a project that focused on that was awesome! My hopes for the future are that I’ll be able to become an illustrator who creates comics and I’ll eventually be able to get published.

Issy O’brien Hidden Dance I wanted my final project to be something I was passionate about, so I decided to base it around dance and body image. I used to dance 8 hours a week and that’s what I wanted to do in the future however when I got ill, I had to stop and got told I could never dance again, being about to incorporate this in my final project allowed me to truly put my all into it. As a person who was a little bigger than what as ideal dancer is meant to look like I struggled with body image a lot as other dancers did as well because they got told if you wanted to make it in the industry, you’d have to lose weight, I wanted this been to portray that. I’m not sure what I want to do int the future right now I’m just taking some time to myself so I can decide exactly what I want to do in the future, one of the things I love doing is nails so I’m considering getting my nail certificate and doing it as a job.

Brighdie Oliver My final major project was inspired by childhood in the 60s, my aim was to capture the styles and trends that shaped textiles at the time. I looked at designers such as Jacqueline Groag and Lucienne Day, and how the textile industry adapted and thrived after the war. I have worked with floral designs throughout my course but wanted to take a more abstract approach to this project, as abstraction was key to mid-century design. The highlight of this project was learning about the female textile designers from mainland Europe who migrated to London during the war and revolutionised British textiles forever. In September I will be studying textile design for fashion and interiors at Bath Spa university and hope to pursue a career in surface pattern design in the future.

Amelia Pethullis The title of my project is Maximal Stereotypes and within it I studied the never-ending list of stereotypes relating to gender identity. I formed my final piece around the idea of my own personal feminine identity and how I live within it despite the weighty stereotypes that our society holds hanging over me. Within my project I worked with clay, latex, photography, acrylics, and ink in order to create a substantial body of work to aid my final outcome. The final outcome itself is a wall mounted display consisting of ceramic sculpture, latex tiles, and photography. Overall, I am incredibly happy with my project and feel it has put me in a great place for starting University in September, studying Fine Art.

Ruby Potter My final major project “Song In The Key Of Me” is an original short story made into an online comic. The story was about a girl whisked away to a world unlike her own to help it’s sad prince find conviction to take charge of his kingdom again, using the magical singing of his land to appease the world’s Giant God. I took this opportunity to discover the behind the scenes work of webcomics and better understand how to navigate it. I hope to continue this story and make many more in the future with each new thing I learn during the experience.

Samantha Pressnell For my final major project I focused on Japan, specifically the minimalism and there small-scale living. I wanted to see how this could influence my designs and I also took loads of inspiration from traditional style artworks and prints which I based my designs around. For my final piece I created a smaller scale room divider/ shoji screen, with a traditional Japanese fish pattern. I also did three cushions with illustrations and another to replicate the sumi-e painting style. As my next steps I plan on studying interior design at kingston university. Thank you.

Victoria Richardson Throughout my project I explored Viking era craft, design and artifacts. My exploration into these themes led me to try out loads of new techniques including woodwork and metalwork. The aim of my final piece was to explore the different techniques and designs of the Viking era and re-create them with my own twist whilst learning new skills. In the future I will possibly specialize in prop design/ making.

Annabelle Riley My Final Major Project is all about encouraging people to hope and think positively. I have tried to get this across through a video piece that displays the human journey of life in the form of multiple loops that are made up of good and bad times, forever alternating between each other. My aim was to reassure anyone who is feeling hopeless, that everything is temporary and so it will pass. I will be going to university next year to continue studying contemporary art.

Ashlyn Robinson For my project I designed a restaurant interior inspired by Greece and the original art forms used there and their modern-day souvenirs. I experimented with different processes and techniques such as, screen printing, mosaic, upholstery, lino print and many others. I then applied all my patterns to my model restaurant. I really enjoyed this project, and I am happy with the work that I produced. Although I am not going to university next year, I plan on working in art and design in the future, possibly in interior design as I found this combines my interests well.

Edie Samuels My Final Major Project is called ‘Nice Things’, and for this I made colourful, large-scale oil paintings of random acts of kindness. I feel strongly that art should be accessible to and understood by everyone, which was one of the reasons for my focus on altruism – our unconscious, innate drive to do good for others. I wanted my work to celebrate even the most mundane and random acts of kindness, for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. In September, I will be going to study Fine Art at Oxford University’s art school, The Ruskin, and I could not be more excited.

Marley Sharples My project ‘Farewell to Childhood’ is about me turning 18 and experiencing of becoming an adulthood and no longer being a child. The oversized shirt was inspired by the idea of children’s wearing adult clothing and the plush backpack inspired by cartoons - a big factor in my childhood. The editing is inspired by things 18yrs olds can now do, such as getting an ID. I wanted to communicate this idea of how a young child sees things as if they’re brand new and did this by making the images bright and white.

Hazel Shaw The aim of my project, ‘Making Friends’ was to explore the relationship between people and the things they own. We all have possessions with sentimental value and a back story. My final piece is 5 handmade box books, for children to read and write in their thoughts. Both a journal and a storybook, they are meant to encourage kids to embrace their toys and teddies as their friends. Next year, I’m attending the University of South Wales to study Creative and Therapeutic Arts, and explore more how people can use art to translate their thoughts and feelings into a visual language.

Magnus Swann The general aim of my Final Major Project was to design and produce a time keeping device. After the research and development stage this became the more refined task of designing a unisex digital wristwatch. The main driving force behind my design process was the challenge of creating a unisex/ neutral appearance within the design of the watch. To aid this process I investigated at past and present watches, interviewed a watch designer, and gathered client feedback on designs and models to dictated and aid major design decisions. This project allowed me to advance my skills as a product designer, something I look forward to continuing when studying BA Product Design at Sheffield Hallam University.

Ellis Taylor-Abbott For my final project I wanted to create something that allowed me to express myself through fashion and feel the most confident version of myself, I wanted to create an outfit that did not fit gender stereotypes, inspired by the 2000s fashion era. I styled and photographed my outfit which I then presented in a mini zine which I named ‘Evolve’ to represent myself growing during my time on art foundation and becoming my new confident self. I am looking forward to further my education at the London College of fashion studying creative direction for fashion.

Sam Thomas This years final major project has been a bit of a switch up for me. This was the year I really tried something different with my style. One day, I sketched out a drawing of a tray of fast food using oil pastels. This drawing came to me when I was thinking of ideas for my project. Then, I thought of a time period I’m interested in, the 1950’s! I added them together and voila, 1950s diners. All year I’ve been experimenting with different media’s, and have been extremely intrigued in animation. I wanted to show the hardship and carelessness of a diner employee in the 1950’s, it was an absolute lightbulb moment. Illustration mixed with animation, mixed with stop-motion, it was just meant to be! Here is my final animation, enjoy.

Amy Wainwright For my project, I wanted to attack the stigmas circulating mental health. To do that, I created my own phrases that specifically related to certain stigmas. For example, instead of ‘snap out of it’, I changed it to ‘ snap out of your blindness’ to state the fact people don’t and don’t want to understand how mental health really works. Then, I presented these phrases on a canvas that I have covered in an acrylic pour made with certain colours that portray the emotions people feel when they suffer these stigmas. Emotions such as anger, distant and weakness but also courage, power, passion. I am trying to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves out of fear.

Hollie Walker The title of my project and book is “Colour and why it matters…”- a collection of artists, theorists and my own work looking into colour and why it is so important. My final piece is an accumulation of my own research, photography, type and media responses to these images- bound together into a book. I included information surrounding colour harmony, the history of colour and various tests and experiments to fill my book. I am really happy with the final outcome of this book, as it has introduced me to book making that will be helpful when I move on to study Graphic Design at Leeds Beckett University in September.

Charlotte Watson My project is based on nature and consists of different printing techniques. In the series I have included a variety of screen-prints such as wallpapers, handmade bags, handmade cushions and a refurbished stool. I have also created some lino-print pieces such as an embodied cushion and another stool. I have thoroughly enjoyed developing my printing skills and exploring new techniques and this is something I will continue with at university this year.

Ellie Wilson My project is based around advertising, in particularly football. In my project I created my own designs for posters/ adverts. I did a lot of research into big sporting brands and their advertising for major sporting events. I worked digitally for my project and mainly used Procreate on my iPad. In the future I hope to work for a design company, or have my own design company where I can basically do what I want and create designs for T-shirt’s, posters, adverts etc.

George Walters The aim of my final major project was to design and make a prototype of a piece of furniture inspired by nature. During my research I narrowed this down to creating either a bookshelf or shelving unit and then as I discovered animals along with their horns, I decided I wanted to create a shelf with these shapes included. I made sure to create CAD models using the measurement’s I needed to help me realise my design and create my final piece. The project further developed my skills at hand crafting and making designs which I something I will continue while studying BA Product Design at Leeds Beckett University.

Olivia Woodcock My FMP was based on Architectural designs and applying them to my designs and final piece. I accomplished this by searching different architects, designs, styles of buildings ….etc. I managed to create fashion designs and sketches to get an idea of what I wanted my FMP to look like. This project helped me find ways of expanding what fashion design could be and be able to apply this to my future knowledge and needs. I will apply this knowledge and experience to fashion buying and marketing in University.

Heather Woodger For my final major project, I decided to go with creating the short comic you can see here, Society - Please Leave us Alone. It is intended to be an easy to read and casual thought train about numerous things which most teens and young adults may feel they’re expected to do or act like within our current society. I hope that it may be relatable to some of you in some way or another and that you may even agree with some of what the unnamed character says! In the future I am hoping to become a character designer, however I have a big interest in comic making as well and I want to try to make my own original comic series one day. For the time being however, I am hopefully taking a university course about both concept and comic parts of art for the next few years. Although I am taking a break as of now, if you would like to see more of my art and what work I make in the future, feel free to follow me on Instagram
