Fortunately for Fourtunate By Lisa Wilson There are times when you see many great artists getting older, or passing away where you can wonder if you'll ever hear anything as talented again. Then you turn on your radio or even browse through YouTube to discover something great. Fortunately for music, Fourtunate is that talent that you hope to keep with you forever. This awesome Australian group bleeds passion with every note sung. After being denied on XFactor Australia a year ago,
the group decided to give it another go and is now top eight on the show! Check out the interview below to see what they had to say about their music! Well we know it’s been a busy road with you guys being on Xfactor. What have you learned about yourselves so far from being on the show? On the show we’ve learnt more about the production side of things - Joe That there’s a time to have fun and enjoy yourself and a time to be professional. We love having a laugh and just being boys.
3
www.youngcelebritynews.com We also have to be professional and we have to do our job when required – Zay What made you guys try out again? We hadn’t thought about entering the X Factor this year until quite late as we thought it wouldn’t hurt going once more seeing there was nothing to loose. And if we were to make it let’s just make the most of it and here we are in the top 8 thanks to everyone who is voting - Zay When and why did you guys become a band? Fourtunate was formed just before last years X Factor. Zay and Kiel had already
Issue 12, Fall 2012 been gigging and had established a huge following on YouTube. Last year they decided to enter the X Factor together with Jaye. At the time they were in a dance crew together with Joseph who they later learnt was auditioning for X Factor so they decided to form the group Fourtunate. . How hard is it when a close friend leaves the show? It’s pretty hard because you are all together every day. We all support each other as we’re all quite unfamiliar with the process so we help each other out to try and get the best out of each other for performance day. There’s a lot of waiting around so we hang out a lot chatting, eating, singing or playing
which also helps calm our nerves and sets us up in the right frame of mind to hit the stage! We always hype each other up and encourage each other. We always get nervous but we use the nerves in a positive way that can actually boost our energy on stage.
comments but we’ll start working on it because they’re important to us, it’s just so busy at the moment, sorry guys.
You have tons of fans! There's even a fan page that says, "Fourtunate to win X Factor 2012." Tell us how you feel about your fans?
Joseph has to be the funniest. Smartest one? I can say with out a doubt Izayah is definitely the smartest (we all like to think we are the smartest). Ladies man? It seems Jakiel is the one that gets the most fan mail! Best at video games? We will never agree to who’s the best at gaming.
We owe them everything and love to get their feedback via Facebook, instragram, youtube and twitter. It’s hard to respond to so many 4

video games together. Your fan @immaleprechaun wanted to know how was it performing in front of One Direction? Was an awesome experience & their such nice guys - Joe Your Fan @RIA_Music wanted to know what is Joseph In Samoan? What is Kalepo in English? Joseph in samoan is Iosefa & Kalepo in English is Caleb - Joe How do you prepare before you hit the stage? Do you get nervous? Before every performance we always say a prayer, Everyone will claim to be the best so it’s best we say no one! When people look back years from now, what do you want people to say about Fourtunate? It would be great if people see us as a bunch of normal fun loving energetic guys who came from nothing and became superstars because we dared to follow our dream. Also that we put God and family at the head of our lives and that our friends are very important to us too.

Born to Succeed By Michelle Tuyub “In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.” This is a quote of Bill Cosby that the young artist Chase Lett strives to follow. There are many people that will never agree In one word who is Chase Lett? In one word, I would like to describe myself as "original". Tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be an artist? I realized my love for music at a very young age. Ever since the age of five years old, I knew I wanted music to play a large role on my life. At the age of eight I started taking it more serious and began entering contests, talent shows, and more. 6
Issue 12, Fall 2012
with what you’re striving after. Yet still many of us can be discouraged from people around us having negative views of our goals. For many, that’s enough to quit. Yet for Chase, that only pushes him to strive after his dreams more. Unlike most kids his age, Chase invested his allowance money and bought recording equipment when realizing how much he wanted to go after a career in music. Now Chase has made quite the impact through the net with his recently released EP “Who is Chase Lett,” which is distributed worldwide. As time progressed, I started purchasing my own equipment with money I'll put aside that my mom gave me. At the age of eleven, all the money I saved, I invested into a home studio and instantly, began recording songs. As I built a catalog of music, I began uploading music to my Myspace page, and multiple other music based websites. During this process, I instantly generated thousands of views. At that time, (the age of 13) I realized I wanted

to be an artist. Who is one of your favorite artists today and why? My favorite artist today is Drake. I am intrigued by his style and his amazing lyrical capabilities. He is very original and that means EVERYTHING to me! How do you think you will make a difference today in the music industry? I would like to bring individuality into the industry (continued on next page)
www.youngcelebritynews.com along with originality.
Who’s your biggest supporter? My mother! She's been there from the beginning. She's been there ever since I posted my first song, and I'm sure she'll be there long after my last. Tell us about your new single, “Gone,” and the meaning behind it? The concept of this particular record derived from the thought of me taking off in my career. It basically implied that I was about to exceed normal

expectations and no one was stopping me. NOTHING was going to prevent me from doing so. I was GONE, GONE, GONE, IM OUT! Are you working on an album right now? I am actually! I recently just released my debut E.P on titled "Who Is Chase Lett" which has been distributed worldwide wherever music is sold online. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working on music? On my free time, I love to skateboard and hangout with friends. I also love
the thought of surfing, haha, So I plan on working on that pretty soon. What advice do you have for other up and coming young artists today that want to get into music? NEVER GIVE UP. Most people will never expect you to be a star. . . . until you become a star. Work hard and never let someone tell you that you are unable to achieve your goal. There will be many people who will try to bring you down, but you must stay strong, and keep your head up through all the trials and tribulations that are thrown at you.

First thing you do when you wake up in the morning? -Check my phone!
2.
Favorite meal? -I am deeply in love with tacos! We're totally getting married one day!
3.
First thing you would buy if you had 1million dollars right now? -I would buy my mom ANYTHING she wanted.

On This Road Called Life A Note From The Editor By Lisa Wilson
I’ve been talking to a lot of different people lately who have been going through tough times. Sometimes we want to fix people’s problems for them but we can’t and exhaust ourselves trying. Yet there is one thing that we can always give someone no matter who it is, no matter how big or small his or her problem is. That one thing is, “encouragement.” Sounds so simple but encouraging one another daily can really go a long way in a person’s life no matter how young or how old. When we are young we experience encouragement probably a hundred times a day. We were encouraged the first time we took our very first step, when we first learned how to use the potty, our first day of school, or completed our first year of school. Encouragement is not a new concept but an old one. Yet somehow the older we get, we start to hear less encouragement and more of that other “stuff.” Yet in reality, encouragement and love is what keeps us going on in our lives. And I’m convinced the more you give someone that love and encouragement the more they are going to give it to others. Imagine how the world would be today if we constantly encouraged one another in our lives? So lets start a game by encouraging one another daily! Below are my favorite quotes and scriptures that I hope encourage you as well: Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Psalm 9:9 The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. “Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.” Oprah Winfrey

FIVE TIPS FOR GETTING INTO ACTING 1. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE It doesn't matter if you have the nicest headshots in the world, what matters most is your skill. If you aren't practicing that, the casting directors will notice. -‐__-‐ 2. DO YOUR RESEARCH. For those who don't know anything about the industry there are lots to know before going into the business. Know the market that you're striving after. Some agencies book actors just for theater, some for just commercials so pick which one you want to do. Research different casting agencies that are looking for new talent! That’s what the Internet is for! 3. GET OUT THERE AND DO YOUR THING There are lots of places to look for acting gigs online. A lot of times college students who are majoring in the theater/film are always looking for people to be in their movies or plays. Keep an eye out for gigs. If you're just starting out, even unpaid gigs are better than no gigs.
4. BE AN EXTRA There are tons of people who got their start as an extra who are big time now. We actually listed some in this month's issue. 5. DON'T FORGET TO SMILE! Just kidding but this insinuates that you DO need headshots. Most casting agents will ask you to send one thing, your photo resume. So be prepared to spend money to get some professional looking headshots done.

Be the Change You Want To See By Lisa Wilson Rosa Packs, a company that sells backpacks, isn’t your typical business. It uses its proceeds to help the less fortunate. Customers don't just step up their fashion sense, but help provide foster children with field trips, tutoring services, and extra-‐curricular experiences. Changing the world seems an impossible task to do alone, but Raymond Fuentes the man behind Rosa Packs, shows us by example that together, we can be the change we want to see. Raymond Fuentes was given the opportunity to see Rosa Packs come alive
during his spring semester at Cal State University Fullerton in one of his business courses. The vision had been stirring up inside him for quite some time after his family adopted a one year old from Orangewood Children’s Home. That experience opened up Raymond’s heart to start the company we know today as Rosa Packs. The fashionable backpacks not only look great, but are a constant reminder that it's making a difference to disadvantaged youth. Check out the interview below of Raymond to get more information about this awesome company!
“Rosa Packs is my shot at building a hip company, which also acts as a support system for foster children/disadvantaged youth.”
Q: How did Rosa Packs start? A: Rosa Packs is a venture structured in my business class this past Spring Semester at California State University, Fullerton. However the vision revolves around my personal experience. In 2007 my family adopted a 1-yearold girl from Orangewood Children’s Home. Prior to the adopter and this little girl entering the foster system, her real parents were abusing hard drugs, leaving her in a room for days. Having an understanding of the lifestyle she lived, in comparison to the lifestyle she lives today,
Continued on page 10 10
www.youngcelebritynews.com it’s absolutely advantageous.
And the key ingredient to her success is my parents; providing her with good values, rich culture, opportunity, and encouragement. Fast-forward to now, the same little girl is playing golf, excelling with her private tutor, and most of all, loved and appreciated. Two months ago my little sister was asked to say the Pledge of Allegiance in front of her peers at the elementary school. This is an achievement reflecting the constructive efforts that, WE can provide for children with similar needs and circumstances. Rosa Packs is my shot at building a hip company, which also acts as a
Issue 12, Fall 2012 support system for foster children/disadvantaged youth. Q: What made you want to sell backpacks in particular rather than another item? A: I chose to start a backpack company because I know that I can improve the backpacks particular to the active individual. I see many college students rocking drawstring promotional backpacks, or the enormous backpacks with all the pockets; but nothing really in between. Me being a college student, I’m conscious of the new approaches for teachers delivering curriculum digitally, or online.
With that in mind, backpacks should be geared for those active and on the go, while catering to those thinking light with laptops and Ipads. Q: It is an amazing idea to help foster youths! What kind of events has Rosa Packs sponsored? A: Since launching this past year (2012), we have successfully hosted a few field trips and have been active within our community! In March, founder of Rosa Packs, Raymond Fuentes, was invited to speak at the PALS Guest Speaker Night at the Orangewood Children’s Home. Rewarding the children with wristbands
and t-shirts as they sat and listened to me talk about overcoming struggles and hurdles. In April, we organized a half-day, fishing trip out of Newport Harbor. We catered to seven foster youths affiliated with the Orangewood Children’s Home. They all caught limits of rock fish, fed seals, and witnessed Bottlenose dolphin ride beneath the boat’s bow. In May we caravanned a group of 14 to go and visit the Staples Center. The kids got to to take slap shots on the ice before cheering on the NHL Kings beat the Blues clinch their way to the organization’s first Stanley Cup. In May we also partnered up with Emancipated4Life and sponsored a walk-a-thon to raise awareness for emancipated foster youth. In July, we partnered up with the Huntington Harbor Anglors and sponsored a fishing trip for 50 "at risk," high school students … 11
www.youngcelebritynews.com This September, myself and one of the foster youths who participated in our field trips, Phillip Blake, headed to California State University, Fullerton and Saddleback College, where we got 50 birdhouses painted with inspirational messages. The birdhouses will be donated this month to the kids at the same home my little sister was adopted from. My motive behind the inspirational birdhouses is: to get the children at the foster home, and even Phillip who went with me, more aware and oriented with the college energy. To spark interest or curiosity at an earlier age, which will hopefully manifest into something far more productive.
Issue 12, Fall 2012 Q: What does the symbol in the backpacks mean?
that you have experienced through Rosa Packs?
A: Our company's symbol or logo represents our initials (r inside the p) centered around Mother Earth. Having the earth in our logo illustrates our conscious efforts to sustain an eco-friendly environment by incorporating recycled materials into all of our backpacks. The three wedges represent our core values: Education, Individuality, and Goodwill. H aving said that, our team is in stride to positively influence foster youth with solid extracurricular activities, productively encouraging wholesome individuals.
A: My most memorable moment that I’ve experienced with Rosa Packs was during our first field trip deep-sea fishing. One of the kids told me as we were heading the boat back into the harbor, that he had found a new passion. Hearing him and a few others say that this was a first time experience, was over the top. Fishing has been a hobby of mine since I was 5 years old, fishing on my dad’s boat. Something that I know has shaped me into the person I am today. Another all time joy was seeing our entire crew cheering and dancing up on the Megatron after the NHL Kings scored their last goal to beat the NHL Blues.
Q: What are some memorable moments
Q: We know that the company originally started in Newport Beach, has Rosa Packs been able to spread? A: We now have affiliates (including Tilly’s) along the west coast selling our packs from Palo Alto, California down to San Diego, California. Based off of our sales from our site (www.RosaPacks.com) our packs have been purchased and mailed out to people nationwide. Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start something similar to Rosa Packs to help others? A: Like I said, Rosa Packs originated in my Entrepreneurship Class this past Spring Semester. The professor, Randy Jackson, allowed us students to pitch our ideas or business concepts to the class to 12
www.youngcelebritynews.com So I went up in front of the class to see if anyone would like to work on Rosa Packs and nobody raised their hand. Nobody thought my business was viable, or that it was a successful concept. Professor Jackson pulled me aside before leaving my class and he said, “Raymond, you have an excellent dream, if you are really an entrepreneur, you will take the risk. The only thing that separates a dreamer from an entrepreneur is the act of doing.” Despite the fact that my business plan wasn’t chosen, I still managed to work on Rosa Packs outside of class. Keeping up the pace with the current curriculum, by the time my final semester was over,
Issue 12, Fall 2012 my very first shipment of backpacks (500) arrived and the Rosa Packs was born. So no matter what the circumstances are, if you are thinking about starting a company, contemplating on cleaning your room, or an instrument you want to play; you’ve got to make the decision and act on it. With anything you do, you must be patient, confident, you must trust yourself, and have faith that everything will fall into place, as it should. I’m just any other person who has dreams. I’m just making mine come true one day at a time. Q: Where do you envision Rosa Packs in the next five years?
A: I envision Rosa Packs to still be centralized in Southern California, yet with relations to vendors, shops, and ecommerce sites across the nation. Over the next five years I see Rosa Packs introducing new styles of backpacks, apparel, and art with the intention to make a good profit to fund locations providing resources for foster and disadvantaged youths. Similar to a Boys and Girls Club, yet specializing more in the cultivation of ambition and appreciation for education, fine arts, and athletics. I also envision a place of work full of energetic hipsters collaborating to make a positive difference,
listening to Pandora as loud as we want, and eating tasty take-out while we are taking care of business, “changing the world one pack at a time.” Support the cause and buy a backpack today at: http://rosapacks.com

DISASTER DATE Ever had a first date that didn’t quite go the way you wanted? These people did.
Recently I decided to take a girl to the movies. With the rush of getting ready and washing my clothes, I didn’t quite get to finish all of my laundry. When the movie was over my driver side door locked and decided it did not want to work. So I had to climb in through the passenger side door and I wasnt wearing any underwear that night. -‐Kelly 25
This chick had the nerve to constanly check her phone during our date and she wonder why we ate burger king. #I DIPPED -Robert 24
My rough first date was with a guy that I really liked, but wasn't completely sure how he felt yet. We went to a drive in movie with a bunch of friends and had a great time. I rode back with him and we ended up talking in his truck for hours. I was sitting with my feet up on the dash and we were telling a bunch of funny stories when probably the most embarrassing thing of my life happened. I laughed at something he said and accidently let out the girliest little toot. I stopped laughing instantly and my face said it all. He asked if that was my shoe and then saw my face and immediately started busting up laughing, for about the next 20 minutes. Then he could only talk about farts for the next hour. I pretty much wanted to die, until he told me that he liked me. I guess it worked out in my favor! -‐Sydney 20 15

Issue 12, Fall 2012 So whose idea was it to start this band?
Jamming With Your Best Friends By Lisa Wilson
Five siblings, five voices and one dynamic sound gives you the amazing group The
Fergies! This Australian teenage band is
attracting audiences worldwide and they are just getting started.
Though currently in Australia, they are not against the idea of relocating if needed. (Where have we seen that before? Maybe Cody Simpson?) Unlike the sibling rivalry that many of us experienced growing up, these siblings have admitted that they are best friends! We got a chance to catch up with this awesome group to ask them about their music.
Both our parents are musicians and that had a massive influence. I guess we were pretty much born with music in our blood haha. We were that family who randomly busts out into harmonies in the car. We actually came round to forming the band in October 2007 when I was 14 and Shani was only 8! I found a flyer in the newspaper for a Battle of the Bands Competition and was really keen to enter! I asked the guys if they were interested in giving it a go for a bit of fun and they were like ‘heck yeah’ - so we did! The band actually ended up coming second, which was a huge surprise. We were all bitten by the performance bug that day and haven’t looked back. What's the first word that comes to mind when you think about your band? REAL. What you see is what you get. We’re total unashamed dorks who are Lord of the Rings fanatics, probably eat way too much and stay up til midnight having water gun fights. We write songs about things we’re going through like relationships, break-ups, amazing shows, bullying… we tell it how it happens to us. We play music for hours and hours because we totally love it and want to be the best we can at what we do. How often do you guys practice with one another?
Check it out below!

Issue 12, Fall 2012
We usually release a song a week to YouTube and we’re always writing and arranging new stuff, as well as keeping the older material fresh. So there’s always a lot to do. We probably work together about 5 - 8 hours a day depending on what we have on. And we all spend some pretty serious time on our music individually as well. BEST. JOB. EVER. Are you guys currently signed? Do you want to get signed by a record label? Do you want to be independent? At the moment we’re unsigned and completely independent. Over the past 5 years we’ve gone from being a bunch of school students who had absolutely no idea what we were doing to being a band who does all of their own audio engineering, video production, web design, social marketing, digital distribution, managing, publishing, booking etc, etc. It’s a lot of hard work and there’s always something new to learn! We all believe there will come a day when we meet the right label/management/publisher. It’s obviously a really big step forming business relationships that will steer your careers for a few years. Some bands have crashed and burned after signing with organizations that just don’t get who they are and how to promote them. So we’re a little cautious. But we’re convinced it’s a really important step to take to work with people who are experts in their own side of the business. So while we’d sign without hesitation if it were the right deal with the right people, until they come along we’re excited to keep driving the whole thing ourselves and learning heaps along the way. How important do you feel music impacts people's lives today? Mega important! We get so many messages from fans that say that our music gets them through 18
The fact that our songs can have that sort of impact on someone across oceans is just the most beautiful, inspiring thing for us. It makes us want to work harder and be better for those people you know? What is the overall goal with "The Fergies?" We’re all totally reaching for the stars when it comes to The Fergies. We want to write and record albums, tour the world, be interviewed on Ellen :D All of us are really driven, hard-working and determined to make something big out of our music. Our dream is to keep our relationships strong and to share our huge love of music with the world. If you could open up for any band or artist today who would it be and why? (Continued on next page)
www.youngcelebritynews.com
Issue 12, Fall 2012 Cody Simpson who is from Australia relocated to LA because of music. Do you guys think you would ever do the same?
We’d love to play the same stage as Taylor Swift. We’re all huge fans of her music and what she represents as an artist. Then there’s Carly Rae Jepsen, Katy Perry, The Killers, The Band Perry, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Hot Chelle Rae… We could go on forever J Opening up for any of them would be more than just a little mind-blowing. Do you guys hang out together a lot outside of doing music or hang out with your own friends? We have a few close friends we hang out with now and then. We hang out together a lot too. People are always really surprised when they find out that we’re siblings who are also best friends. It’s kind of sad that it’s not a common thing these days! We do everything together. I think music plays a big role in bringing us closer together. There’s definitely a bond you create when you’re jamming together every day and working towards common goals. We always have each other’s back on and off stage.
musicians like us get loads of positive and negative feedback. We’ve come to realize our industry is driven by opinion and there’s no one whose music is liked by absolutely everyone. We all have our own likes and dislikes. So when some people like and others dislike what you do it’s really not a problem. It’s when no one cares what you’re doing that you’ve got a problem. Having said all that, we all have days when we’re feeling really thin-skinned and easily hurt by what people say - and that’s totally okay too. But it’s really important to not let yourself be torn down! Focus on the amazing people who are loving & supporting your music – they’re more precious than gold.
Absolutely! We love the idea. We all love living in Australia. It’s such a beautiful place and the people are really laid back and friendly. And we live near some seriously killer Aussie beaches on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast in Queensland. But Australia does have a tiny population compared to America and Europe. Most artists find it really hard to make a career in the music scene over here. So we would love to head over to America and Europe in the near future. That’s one of the reasons we decided to take the YouTube route. It’s amazing that from here in this little Australian town we can write and record Follow The Fergies: music that literally hundreds of thousands and millions of people www.facebook.com/TheFergies can enjoy in their lounge room.
