The maples trees in the park have all turned yellow and it is just simply intoxicating to see the nature's presentation of season change. Kindergartens, schools and all the training sessions start to run again. But don't forget to celebrate Mother's Day on May 8! Visit our local venues, Mountain View Hotel, Mulgrave Country Club and spoil mom (and yourself!) for this special day. Who doesn't love a high tea! Who doesn't love a special lunch/dinner! I do think they should make Mother's Day a public holiday (on Friday or Monday) because it is one of the most important days of the year. In fact, Father's Day, Mother's Day and there should be a Grandparents' Day. And we should all have these days off! Haven't moms worked enough?! EDITORIAL Kate Thomas Hands up if you are a momtrepreneur! Croc’s Playcentre Clayton owner Kate Thomas is one of the inspiring momtrepreneurs in the area. Having two daughters and two centres (Clayton & Moorabbin), she surely has great ps to share with other current to going-to-be momtrepreneurs. In the interview this month, Kate talks with YC Monash editor, Rachel Blake. RB: How do you juggle work and family? KT: This can be very challenging at mes as every working parent would know. However, we have been able to develop a strong team around us consis ng of our Manager/s and other team members who take away some of the daily stresses of running your own business and allow us to focus on our family when needed. RB: How is it like to be an owner of a kid's play center? KT: Owning a Croc's Playcentre provides us with a work day that is always different from the last. We are able to build posi ve rela onships with our customers and the greater community through not only the play equipment and café as well as our sponsorship opportuni es with local spor ng clubs. RB: What is the importance of playing, from a mom's point of view and from an owner. KT: We feel play is an integral part of all children's development. In our experience as parents our children have shown us how much they learn through play. Our playcentre allows kids to con nue their learning outside of the home/school environment by enabling children to learn not only gross and fine motor skills but also social skills and problem solving, all through play. Our youngest daughters favourite piece of equipment is the Croc Jumping Pillow! 14

昨天晚上，我看了一部电影《麦兜我和我妈妈》，以为是一部给小 孩子看的动画电影，没想到自己看了之后感动得一塌糊涂。整部电影以 插叙的方式，讲诉了长大后的神探麦兜在破案，在等待“真凶”出现的 时间里，跟周围的崇拜者们讲述了他和他妈妈的故事。麦太是一个离异 的单亲妈妈，做着几份工作养家糊口，她坚强，甚至是顽强地活着，给 麦兜无私的爱和毋庸置疑的信任。整部电影里，让我感触最深的，是麦 太的各种“谎言”。 麦太生病住院，她会跟麦兜说:“妈妈要去太空了，所以要在太空医 院接受检查”。而最大的谎言，便是骗麦兜他们中彩票了。“中”了彩 票后，他们假装出去吃大餐，麦太给麦兜买漂亮的衣服，让他“以后走 路要抬头挺胸”了，拉着行李箱“练习”旅游，那些时光是那么美好， 长大后的麦兜“分不清是不是真的去旅游”了。而当麦兜知道其实并没 有中奖以后，他觉得”吃得也没什么改变，用的也没什么改变，只是那 个感觉不一样了。妈妈就是怕我有这种想法，所以那时才没说自己并没 有中奖吧“。其实小孩子对“富裕”“贫穷”并没有直接的概念。小时 候只要一点零花钱，买上一点小零食，就能让孩子觉得自己是世界上最 幸福的人。而最满足的拥有更是与父母一起的度过的时光。无论是环游 世界，还是只是踩着单车在周围逛逛，累了买个冰激凌吃，对小孩子来 讲，都是一样的。 这个故事里，麦太的“谎言”也让电视外的我想起了我妈妈坦白的 她的一个”谎言“。 我妈妈说，其实以前很多次她去开家长会，老师并没有表扬我们， 但她回家后，一定会跟我们说，老师表扬你怎么怎么了。我大为惊讶， 因为以前一直以为那些都是真的，以为老师真的很器重自己，因而更为 努力的学习，后来才真的受到老师的表扬。而正是因为那些细小的肯 定，才让自己一直那么乐观那么积极的吧。妈妈说，有的家长回家跟小 孩子说，某某老师不喜欢你，一直批评你，说你没做作业，懒惰。其实 这样的“坦白”会给孩子带去很消极的影响，有的孩子就会讨厌老师， 更加不喜欢这门学科，而形成恶性循环。 我妈妈常说，跟小孩子说话要有艺术，别直来直去。我想，作为一 个新手妈妈，我似乎渐渐对“说谎”这个事情有了新的看法。

麦唛是麦兜的表弟。有一天，他们一起合作做蛋糕。一个美味的朱 古力忌廉蛋糕，还加上很多很多的水果！ 完成了！看——世界上最美丽的，麦唛麦兜合作做出来的蛋糕！不 能再等了。麦唛用力把饼分开，一猪一半。麦兜说:"要分得平均啊。"麦 唛说："好啦！" 蛋糕是分得很平均了，两边的大小都是一样。可是麦兜却投诉，自 己的一般比麦唛的少了一粒草莓。 于是麦兜把饼再分…… 这次大家得到的草莓是同样多了，可是麦唛却发现自己分得的蛋 糕，竟比麦兜的少了一片奇异果！ 于是麦唛把饼再分…… 这回却是麦兜的一半，少了半块菠萝！ 于是再分……再分……。麦唛说："一定要分清楚啊！"麦兜说："当然 啊！"于是再分…… 经过一番细心的计算，麦唛麦兜最后都同意现在分得的，不论大 小，朱古力忌廉的成分，各种水果的数量，都十分平均。 只是，切了又切了又切厚的蛋糕，原来不只难看，也十分难吃。 趁着天未黑，麦唛和麦兜决定重新再做一个蛋糕。看！同样的美 丽。只是这次，麦唛和麦兜都没打算分饼了。他们拿起小叉，你一口， 我一口的，吃得十分愉快。 麦唛和麦兜吃饱，一起睡觉了。
