Edi t orsLetter EditorsLetter Welcome to the April issue of Your Child in Whittlesea, I hope that you can all find a little quiet time these school holidays to enjoy this months articles. On page 6 there is an interesting article on how to ‘Encourage your child to explore & learn creative sensory activities’. If you have a child that dislikes reading try ‘I hate reading!’ on page 8, this has some useful strategies to help you out. ‘The Power of Me Helping kids to own their power ....’ is a fantastic book review and giveaway, it can be found on page 14. Hanging with Hannah, page 10, is back this month with Hannah on a new adventure to Neptune Park in Mernda. The local park is a fantastic place to venture out to during the school holidays especially with the lovely weather still around. This month’s Kids in the Kitchen Mini Chef is Madison, who created some yummy bunny racers, see page 23 for the recipe. What’s On is a little quiet this month as many programs, inclding ANZAC Day Services have needed to be cancelled or suspended due to the COVID -19 Virus. However, the local libraries are open for borrowing or you can borrow online from their ebook collection. What’s On can be found on page 22, and page 11 has some ways you can show respect this ANZAC Day without a local dawn service or march to attend. As we enter this time of confusion, I would like to remind everyone we are a community and to make time to check in on your neighbours, especially if they are elderly to see if they are all okay. It is wonderful to see communities sharing food and essential items where needed. Until next month Happy Easter and stay safe,

Hannah is back out in a local playground enjoying the fresh air. This month she visited the beau ful Neptune Park in Mernda. The playground is nestled on the top of a hill with lovely greenery all around. There was a lot to play on - the playground has swings, a slide, rockers, spinners, climbing equipment and a sand pit with diggers. There is also exercise equipment, a half basket ball court, football oval and a soccer pitch. Other facili es include - 2 bbqs, a shelter, tables and chairs, water fountain and rubbish bins. Ways to show respect this Anzac Day If the Dawn Service at the Shrine of Rememberance goes ahead and is televised then my suggestion would be to set your alarm, get up before the service starts and watch it in the comfort of your lounge room whilst paying your respects during the one minutes silence, last Post, Revellie & National Anthems. Should you wish to pay your respects with your neighbours or the whole street then may I suggest you down load the 'Last Post', 'Revellie', National Anthems of both New Zealand & Australia & maybe even the RSL Ode. You could stand in your driveway or on your front porch with a candle and conduct your own ceremony of respect and reflection. A simplified version would be to state the RSL Ode, play the last post, pause for one minute silence broken by the words 'Lest we forget', then Revellie and finally the National Anthems starting with New Zealand finishing with the Australian anthem. The most important part of this very significant day is that we all pay our due respects to our Service Men and Women who have lost their lives not only at Gallipoli but most certainly at many other conflicts and operations through out the world over the past 105 years.
