h a n n a H h t i w g Hangin Rippon Lea Park Rippon Lea Parade, Mernda

This month Hannah visited Rippon Lea Park, for a play in the beau ful spring sunshine. The park is very quiet and has lovely surroundings, plus we were treated to the pre y wild daisies ... great for making daisy chains and fair crowns! The park has some great play equipment - a windy slide, a baby slide, a small climbing wall, a baby swing and a child’s swing, and lots of things to climb over and across .Other facili es include: a shelter with sea ng, a bbq, a rubbish bin and a drinking fountain, 6 park benches, and a half basketball court. Hannah p off the month - always make me to look out for flowers, rocks and bugs ... you never know what you could spy!.

Friends of Kangaroo Ground War Memorial Park Inc. (KGT&P) This year the Friends of Kangaroo Ground Tower and War Memorial remember the local service personnel that have served for our freedom. Approximately 1000 residents enlisted in the 1st World War from the Shire of Eltham, this was a very high proportion of the local population. Most of the enlisted came from farms and were strong, upright men. Many would not return; the community and families would suffer terrible grief as news arrived of those loss. The Remembrance Day address will have a local flavour – looking at the sacrifice of these men, the sick, the wounded, the limbless and the many that did not return home. This touched the community consciousness and the local community wanted to show their gratitude for those that served King and Country by erecting a memorial monument. The Kangaroo Ground hill site was selected for the memorial with its breathtaking views. A local fundraising committee was organised, working bees where undertaken and nearby rocks collected, to build a small cairn of stones and a flagpole was erected on a slight depression point on the hill. A Scottish Peel Tower design was accepted for the memorial and local stone was then th used to build the tower in readiness for the dedication on 11 November 1926. The names of those who did not return would be recorded in brass REMEMBRANCE DAY 2019 letters on the honour board on the east side of the Memorial Tower. Friends of The Remembrance Kangaroo Ground Day service will War Memorial Park Inc. honour our service Invite you to hear about men and women the Shire to which WW1 from all theatres of veterans returned. war and will also reflect on the words Service Starts sharp at 10.30am, On 10.11.2019 spoken at the Park's 375 Kangaroo Ground - Yarra Glen Road, Kangaroo Ground opening in 1921.
