YHN’s Digital Project YHN recognises that many of its customers face barriers to getting online which include access to equipment, internet access and confidence and skills on using the internet. Limited or no online skills can also have an impact on job searching and employability prospects. YHN decided to run a 4-6 month digital project to understand how best to help our customers get online. Customers who took part in the project were offered some basic IT training and some were given access to tablets to take home. Feedback about the training has been collected and data about ongoing development and skills is collected regularly to understand the longer term outcomes of the project. Outcomes so far… Data collected so far tells us that the project has helped customers to develop their digital skills and there has been an increase in ability and confidence in using the internet. Feedback also tells us that the project has helped achieve some other great outcomes. Here are just a few:
One customer taking part has found a job since being part of the project. Her online skills were limited but by taking part in the training and the project she learnt how to attach CVs and sent hers to an agency. She is now working part-time. She’s looking for permanent work and has learnt how to set up job alerts. One customer taking part has also applied for jobs using the tablet. Prior to the project she opted for paper applications but now is able to do online applications. The project has helped develop her confidence and ability in using the internet and is now using online banking! Other customers taking part have learnt other brand new skills through the training. They didn’t have internet access and no IT equipment at home. They were scared and not sure what to expect. Through the training and ongoing support they are now more confident and would consider trying online shopping or online banking now. Other customers taking part have developed their skills to a much greater ability. These people are now much more confident in doing things they were doing before online. They know how to check if a website is safe and secure and are now shopping online and banking online.
