So how do we make things better? FoodWorks is pro-social – we connect people who need some help to work and we offer everyone practical ways to show their support for an inclusive community. FoodWorks makes things better in four ways: The People – Our purpose is to support and champion disadvantaged people and ensure they are a part of our inclusive economy. Every time you buy something you’re helping our team members learn, grow and shine. All profits from the cart will help to maximise work and training opportunities for local people who really need them. The Food – First and foremost it tastes good. The menu has been developed by award winning chef, Nico Duhil. This isn’t patronising: you’ll want to buy the food because it’s good, doing good is just a bonus. Wherever we can we source our food ethically and locally from committed local businesses. What could be better than making things better by eating well? You’d be spending your money elsewhere anyway, but the difference is what happens to the profits. At the Coffee Cart you really can have your cake and eat it. The Partnerships – We also want to build on our partnerships – particularly with Crisis, with Food Nation and as part of Food Newcastle – to ensure that we’re part of the wider ethical food movement that counters food poverty, waste and ignorance. The City – Finding commercially sound ways to underpin our public services is a key part of Newcastle City Council’s transformation agenda. FoodWorks uses commercial means to generate opportunities for local people, reducing costs to taxpayers whilst realising our ambition for a truly inclusive community. We want FoodWorks to make things better for you too, so please tell us what you think by mailing: FoodWorks@newcastle.gov.uk
