DRESSING
THE BRIDAL PARTY Studio SW19
Choosing and co-ordinating the outfits for the entire wedding party is usually one of the most enjoyable aspects of planning a wedding. As well as dressing for the occasion, comfort - especially for the children in your wedding party, is a necessity. The best way to keep your bridesmaids happy is by ensuring they also feel comfortable and confident in their chosen dresses. It’s a good idea to start looking early, particularly for shoes and accessories, as it can be a time consuming task if you have a number of bridesmaids.
Studio SW19
When it comes to the groomsmen’s attire, it’s usually a good idea to have a basic idea of the style of the bridesmaids’ dresses to ensure they will complement each other. The groomsmen usually differ from the groom by wearing a different coloured vest, tie or other accessories.

MOTHER OF THE BRIDE & GROOM The Mother of the Bride & Groom dress code is generally a little more formal and a little more outstanding than those of other female guests. The colour should complement the bridesmaids and be a colour that they are comfortable wearing. As with most very special occasions, it’s nice to buy a new outfit. Your wedding will be one of the highlights of their life as well, so it’s important that they look and feel special too.

There was an undeniable spark between them from the very first moment they met. Both working in the tourism industry, Rita from Guimaraes in the north of Portugal, and Daniel from Lisbon, were on a work trip at the time. Since the moment they met, they have never looked back, and within a month of that trip, had already moved in together. A big decision for both, especially Rita, as it meant uprooting her life in Guimaraes and changing her job location to move further south to Lisbon, Portugal’s capital. But it was all worth it, when on New Years Eve 2020, while celebrating in Marrakesh, Morocco, Daniel nervously told Rita how much she meant to him and that he couldn’t picture life without her – then on one knee proposed. Rita’s reaction was to hug him tightly, before eventually saying the word he was waiting to hear – yes! With their wedding date set for the 4th of October, initially they were concerned that they might not be able to find a suitable venue. Couples normally start looking at venues two years in advance in Portugal, not nine months as was their circumstance. So when they discovered the 15th-16th century Noble House surrounded by vineyards, they both fell in love with it immediately and did everything possible to secure it for their wedding. “We called the place for two days to pressure the other couple that was interested in the venue for the same day as us” says Daniel.

The other couple were still looking at other venues and dates, so Daniel and Rita persevered and got lucky! By the end of January 2020 they had their venue, catering and invitations sorted, and by February, their honeymoon booked. Not long after - COVID struck... Due to the pandemic, their pre-wedding celebrations were a bit limited. “Bars and nightclubs in Portugal have been closed since March and remain closed” says Daniel, at the time of writing this story. They still managed to enjoy themselves though, with Rita and the girls celebrating in the north of Portugal, staying at a hotel in Porto, taking a boat trip on the Douro River, and playing paintball and slide/stand up paddle, while Daniel and his group of friends went south, rented a house and played paintball, karts and had a “few” drinks and poker nights. Both were very diligent when it came to planning their wedding and they chose their suppliers carefully, only after meeting with each of them in person. “Our decisions came not only down to budget but many times down to personal empathy and rapport created in those meetings” they explain. “A wedding is such an intimate affair that you need to develop some sort of relationship and trust with your main providers.” www.WeddingGuide.com.au

14/12/20 10:34 am
Their photographer, Fabio from Poweron Photography was one such provider with whom they built a great rapport. “That made everything very natural and comfortable with him, which we think is important and shows in the pictures” they say, adding “we also liked him because he is a storyteller which we believe enhances the work.” Daniel and Rita agreed on most aspects of their wedding, but there was one area where their opinions differed. Rita had her mind set on lots of flowers and decorations, whereas Daniel thought there was no need to go overboard on the naturally beautiful venue. Daniel eventually agreed however, as he admits, “didn’t really have much choice”. So flowers and decorations it was! Flowers on the handrails, candlelight decorations for the cutting of the cake, plus candle bags meticulously filled with sand and a candle, then placed outside for a magical effect when the sun went down. “Our catering manager nearly became our wedding planner” says Daniel. Helping with all of the decorations, staging and event management, she went above and beyond what was expected, staying until nearly midnight! “It would not have been the same without Carina” they agree. On their wedding day, their maitre d’ surprised them also. “One thing we can point out was the absolute and utter care our maitre d’ had towards us” they remember. He brought them food throughout the cocktail hour, helped with timings, and ensured all of their needs were met. “We had never seen or met him before, but we will never forget Paulo.” Guests from Portugal and Spain witnessed their touching wedding vows first hand, while their Australian and German guests, unable to attend due to COVID, watched on via a streamed Zoom meeting. Not quite like being there in person, it did however allow some interaction, so Daniel’s Australian father, amongst others, were able to watch the ceremony and congratulate the happy newlyweds afterwards.

Much to the delight of their guests in attendance, Daniel and Rita organised a same day edit video which they played at their reception. “Only we knew about it and it was a beautiful moment for all guests who were surprised and blown away by it. We think it was a highlight for many.” Originally they didn’t plan on having video. Admitting they only selected a provider two weeks before their wedding. “Now, we have to say that having video is essential” says Daniel, “photos and video are the things that remind us that it wasn’t a dream.” Asked if they would change anything about their wedding day, they reply, “can we take the COVID 19 pandemic away? Seriously, we think it is the only thing we would change and that would allow us to have all our family present.” The most special moment for Rita was walking down the aisle and seeing Daniel. “I never felt so lucky and happy in my life” she remembers. Daniel too felt lucky, amazed by the certainty and effortlessness with how their whole relationship has evolved. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

He says, “Met, one month later moved in, seven months later put down payment on a house, then cat, then bought a car...fast forward three and a half years and we are married and added a dog. Think we are only missing a kid now.” The happy newlyweds spent their first night in the Royal Suite of a nearby five star hotel, Dolce Campo Real. It was the same hotel their guests were staying at, so they caught up with everyone again for breakfast. Due to the pandemic, their original honeymoon that they had booked in February to New York City and Antigua had to be cancelled, so instead they decided to go to the Maldives. “It is probably currently the safest and most viable destination on the planet” says Daniel. “We stayed for one week at Gili Lankanfushi (previously Soneva Gili), which is one of the top luxury eco-resorts in the Maldives.” It suited this couple completely. With snorkelling, diving and dolphin cruises, it is a very natural low-key luxury where you go barefoot as soon as you step onto the transfer speedboat. “The most special and different experience that the hotel offers is the dine and sleep under the stars experiences,” says Daniel. “A dinner on the beach with your own chef, band and a romantic set up, followed by another romantic stargaze at constellations and shooting stars, before falling asleep. It is magical” But they both agree that better than the hotel is the people. “They are all so helpful and want to make sure you have the best time, that they do some surprises for the guests and never say no to a request. Oh, and the water temperature and the food? AMAZING!” Daniel and Rita’s wedding advice for brides:
I never felt so lucky
and happy in my life
Concentrate on yourself and the groom, do not marry just for the party and the showoff, and do not plan the wedding according to other’s suggestions or what they would like to have or where they want to be seated. Celebrate your love with the people you really love. Seriously consider a small wedding...we do not recommend big weddings with 200 or more guests. We only had 90 guests and we felt like we did not spend time with anyone. Be calm and always follow your heart.

They may have been dating each other for the good part of six years, but that didn’t stop Felicity from instantly crying when Lachlan, walking along the beach at Tallebudgera Creek, got down on one knee and proposed to her. With a little over a year to plan their wedding, the happy couple who met through a mutual friend, felt they had heaps of time to plan. Once COVID came onto the scene though, it limited their ability to meet potential suppliers face to face, so much of their wedding was planned via email, phone and zoom. One of the easiest decisions was choosing their venue. “We both agreed on the wedding venue as soon as we went to have a look at it” Felicity recalls. The relaxed country atmosphere of Yandina Station drew them in and they both knew it was the perfect setting for their wedding day. Exclusive and private, this Sunshine coast wedding venue has 14 acres of prime photographic surrounds, so Felicity and Lachlan were keen to find a photographer that was familiar with the property. They found the photographer they were searching for, Studio SW19 at Your Local Wedding Guide Brisbane Expo. “Everybody at Studio SW19 was absolutely amazing and made the whole experience very easy on us” she remembers.

Once their pre-wedding celebrations were concluded, which for Felicity included a weekend at Surfers Paradise, and for Lachlan a weekend at Mooloolaba, they were ready to tie the knot, with around 65 of their guests in attendance. Felicity confides that she was concerned something might go horribly wrong, but happily that scenario didn’t occur. The worst that happened was forgetting to bring her robe. A problem that was easily fixed with a quick walk with her father to Coolum to buy another to wear for the day. While getting ready, their florist, Mondo Floral Designs, helped by setting up all of their centrepieces for the reception and also delivered their bouquets to their hotel. “The bouquets and buttonholes that we got were absolutely amazing and exactly what I was wanting” she says. Combined with the centrepieces and other floral arrangements, she felt that the whole day came together just perfectly. It was a clear bright blue sky that greeted the couple on the day of their wedding – a light breeze saving the day from becoming too hot.

Felicity was lucky to have both her father and grandfather by her side as she made her way down the aisle, wearing her soccer boots under her elegant off-theshoulder wedding gown. What followed was a relaxed wedding ceremony which is what both Felicity and Lachlan had hoped for. “Our celebrant just made the whole day run so smooth” they remember. They both agree that all of their vendors helped to make organising their wedding so effortless. “They all went above and beyond to help us out and it just made the day absolutely amazing.” Though some guests couldn’t come because of the border closures, they were happy with everything else and say they wouldn’t change anything. “Everybody at Yandina Station was willing to help and facilitate any requests that we had” says Felicity. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

The food was also a hit with their guests, and they received a lot of very positive comments about it, plus their DJ and MC did a great job with the music and got everybody involved. They spent their first night at Coolum Beach, then two nights at Spicers Hidden Vale where they relaxed in their cabin, the spa and in the pool. This was followed by another week together at Mooloolaba. “We did lots of activities such as whale watching, jet skiing, a sunset cruise, helicopter flight and a speed boat tour.” Reminiscing about their wedding, Felicity was surprised at just how well it went. Relaxed and stress free, she says, “I am so thankful to everyone involved in our wedding because without them the day would not have been as good as it was.” Felicity’s wedding advice:
Don’t stress about the little things, it will all come together.

“It was the middle of Winter and I swear Killarney was the coldest place on the planet that night.” Caving in to the insistence of her friends, Tamika found herself at the Killarney rodeo with them, though it took some convincing to keep her there. “I nearly left halfway through and again my friends convinced me to stay and warm up around the fire pit.” Fortunately, she agreed because she says, “that’s where I spotted a very good looking Cowboy at the bar.” When Tamika heard footsteps behind her, she turned around ready to pose for the photo, but instead found Tim down on one knee with the biggest smile and a gorgeous diamond ring! “He asked me to marry him and I ugly cried with happiness. He had set the phone up on video and caught the entire moment, so now we can relive it any time we like.” Asked if she had enough time to plan their wedding, she laughs, “Yes, almost too long.” They had one and a half years to plan, but she says she was extremely organised and had the entire wedding pretty much planned in six months. “I couldn’t wait to marry Tim, so it was very painful. But at the same time it was nice to not feel rushed or time sensitive.” Putting their heart and soul into every detail, she says their main focus was matching their vendors with their own personalities and style. “And they all 100% did, couldn’t have asked for better vendors.” Born and raised at Jimbour Station where her father Karl was the station manager, the wedding venue they would choose was never in doubt. “I had dreamed of getting married there ever since I could walk as it was the place I called home and held such a special place in my heart” she says. “I was the last of my family to be married at Jimbour House.” While every single one of their vendors went the extra mile, she says, “We couldn’t have done it without our Jimbour family. The staff at Jimbour who I obviously have known majority of my life were amazing to us.”

When the day of their wedding finally arrived, it was perfect. A beautiful sunny day with the slightest bit of wind. “I will never forget my husband’s reaction as I walked down the aisle to him” she recalls, “the photo will speak for itself – it was the most amazing, surreal feeling.” Her memory of the first look with her dad will always hold a special place in her heart also. “A typical farmer who never shows emotion, cried when he first saw me in my wedding dress.” Having all of their loved ones in one place to celebrate with was “beyond special” says Tamika, remembering also the special moment she shared with her mum after getting into her dress - knowing that it was a once in a lifetime experience. Like all weddings of 2020, the effects of COVID restrictions were keenly felt. Due to border restrictions, their original photographer from New South Wales was locked out of Queensland, so two weeks out from their wedding, they found themselves on the hunt for a new photographer.

Bird and Boy Photography came to their rescue and she says, “they were more than we could have ever asked for. They were so easy to work with and captured our day exactly how we imagined it.” Their celebrant, Kate from Third Wheel Love Co, was another “huge, huge stand out” she says, “just so amazing, lovely and down to earth to deal with,” as was their florist, “Dalby Florist” who spent months and months planning their florals. Going with a western/boho theme, their dried and preserved flowers worked perfectly thanks to Helene, whose persistence trying to source the flowers during COVID paid off. Everyone loved their wedding singer, Nash, and their videographers were just the best, she says. “They had so many unique visions that we would have never even thought of and when we watched our teaser, we were mind blown that that was OUR wedding! It was epic!” So many of their guests said it was one of the most love filled and beautiful weddings they had ever been to, which meant the world to both Tamika and Tim. A fun addition to their wedding was a sweet table with Tim Tams. Tamika explains, “my nickname is Tam and my husband and I make TIM TAM, so it was only fitting.” www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Tamika and Tim spent their first night at the bridal suite at Jimbour House after their long, amazing, emotional and exhausting wedding day came to an end. The honeymoon they had originally planned to America and Canada had to be cancelled due to the ban on international travel, so they planned to go across to Esperance in Western Australia instead – but that too had to be cancelled when the state borders closed! In the end, they stayed at Ramada by Wyndham at Marcoola Beach on the Sunshine Coast for a week, enjoying the couples massages at Soul Ocean Spa. They then travelled further north, visiting family at Mackay and Airlie Beach. “Coral Beach at Shute Harbour is a must see” says Tamika, “it’s a quiet little coral beach only accessible by boat or foot.” Asked if anything surprised them at their wedding, they reply, “how quickly the day went. People always warn you how quickly the day goes, but you don’t really understand until it happens. So much planning for one day, we just wished we could relive it 10 times over.” Looking back, Tamika says “all of the hard work is SO worth it. To be able to walk down the aisle to my husband on a day that we have created together was just the best feeling.” Tamika’s wedding advice:
Take time throughout the day to just stop and take it all in.
Look at all of the guests, listen to the band, look at the decorations and venue that you have spent the last year and a half planning. And finally, take some time for just you and your new husband or wife – it’s such a hectic day and it’s so nice to just be still and appreciate your partner and how far you have come.

While some couples might stress about their wedding day plans coming together, Katie and Morgan couldn’t have been more relaxed. With the majority of their wedding planned through Gold Coast Pop Up Weddings, most of the hard work was already done for them. Katie, born and raised in Victoria, relocated to the sunny Gold Coast six years ago. A couple of years later, on a night out with friends, she met Morgan and since then, they’ve been inseparable. It was on a getaway together to the Scenic Rim that Gold Coast raised Morgan, decided to pop the question. “Morgan proposed just before we went on a really nice picnic at the lake” she remembers, “it was such a lovely and romantic weekend.” Asked if they had enough time to plan their wedding, Katie says, “considering we were very easygoing about everything, we think we had plenty of time.” Having confidence in Gold Coast Pop Up Weddings to organise most of their wedding details helped, and allowed them to focus on the fun details. Katie admits she concentrated most of her attention to her dress and Morgan’s suit.

“I had the whole bottom of my dress changed to a completely different style” she says, “I was quite particular about that.” As expected, some aspects of their wedding were impacted due to COVID. “We would have loved to have had more family, but unfortunately that wasn’t an option with COVID at the time” she recalls. They only had three guests at their wedding, so it was a very intimate and special affair. Having their daughter enjoying the day with them made it even more special. The weather was lovely for their ceremony at Tall Trees Estate, Tullebudgeera Valley, but then it rained straight after! Their photographer, Casey Jane Photography, took advantage of the rainy weather and worked with it, producing some amazing photos. Katie and Morgan thought she was “absolutely wonderful”, and they could not be more happy with her work.

Following the ceremony and photos, they enjoyed an intimate four course dinner and then honeymooned at Mermaid Beach. Not quite their dream honeymoon thanks to COVID, but they were happy nonetheless. “We absolutely loved our wedding, it was just how we imagined it. We have really cherished the last three and a half years together and we can’t wait for many more to come.” Katie’s wedding advice:
“Try not to stress about the small things, everything will work out in the end.

Meeting through mutual friends at a country race event, Anna met Karl, her future husband…she just didn’t realise it at the time. A country girl hailing from the Atherton Tablelands, Anna was on the lookout for a refined country gentleman - Brisbane born Karl didn’t quite fit the bill. Something must have struck a chord between them though, because three years later, their friendship blossomed into romance. On Christmas Eve of 2018, Karl surprised Anna. They were at home, had finished dinner he had cooked and were enjoying some bubbles on the couch. Anna remembers thinking it was odd when he asked if she’d like to open her Christmas present early. “He is usually a real stickler for waiting until Christmas Day”, she says. When she opened it, a beautiful engagement ring was revealed, with Karl sitting next to her with a big nervous grin. So with just under 12 months to organise their wedding, Anna got busy gathering all of the inspiration she could find on Instagram and Pinterest. Once they had chosen their suppliers, Anna would show them the relevant photos saved to folders in her phone, and then hand over the reins to them to make their magic happen. Both enjoyed pre-wedding celebrations – a trip to Noosa for Anna and the girls, while Karl stayed local and visited some Brisbane Breweries with his mates.

The church, their reception venue and their photography were details they placed a great deal of importance on for their wedding. “Our dream wedding location initially was Port Douglas at the Sugar Wharf, but it was just a bit impractical” says Anna. “But after the day we had at Burleigh, I couldn’t imagine having it any other place now! It was the dream!” Family and friends from South East Queensland and further south celebrated with Anna and Karl on their special day. The day started with some light rain in the morning, but by lunch time it was clear blue skies all around. “From getting ready with Mum and Dad and the bridesmaids, the car ride to the church and all the excitement and anticipation, walking down the aisle and seeing Karl, the ceremony, it was all so beautiful” Anna recalls. “When I look back on the photos from the ceremony, each photo beautifully portrays the moment, and the memories come flooding back!” Neither Anna nor Karl realised the amount of time they would spend on the day with their photographer, Richie from Richie Norris Photos. Being so personable, he always made them feel at ease. “He could read the room and had such a great energy, It just made everything feel easy and it was a really enjoyable experience.” www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Wearing a beautiful Grace Loves Lace gown with hair and makeup by TinaKristen Weddings, Anna and her bridesmaids all looked and felt amazing. “Tina and Kristen’s artistic skills and styling were incredible” says Anna, “they did everything so effortlessly and added such a lovely energy to our day” Anna was also impressed with her flowers. Haylee at Huckleberry Flowers provided for the wedding. Admitting she was very much out of her depth with the flowers, Anna was relieved to find Haylee who took all of the stress out of the process. “The different floral arrangements surpassed all our expectations, the richness of colours and textures were incredible” she says. After their ceremony at Stella Maris Catholic Church at Mermaid Beach, a reception at Rick Shores followed with the beautiful Burleigh beach as the backdrop. Guests were most impressed with the level of service, the quality and the quantity of food and beverages at the venue - as were Anna and Karl. As the night came to an end, the band played ‘Closing Time’ and Anna and Karl found each other on the dance floor. They had organised in advance that when the band played this song, it would be their cue to leave. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

“For some reason one of my fondest memories is singing, ‘I know who I want to take me home’, at the top of our lungs on the dance floor before we toddled off together along the beach to go home.” They spent their first night at Ambiance at Burleigh Heads, before leaving for their honeymoon in Vanuatu. The highlight of their trip was staying at the Plantation Villas. “They have two of the most beautifully appointed villas with your own private plunge pool on the waterfront” says Anna reminiscing. “Many a sunset was spent in the plunge pool with a bottle of champagne.” When asked if anything surprised them at their wedding, they reply “How quickly the day went!” And what would they change about their day? “Perhaps starting everything an hour or two earlier so we had more time to enjoy the day.” Anna’s wedding advice:
“Savour every moment, it really does pass by in the blink of an eye!”

Their shared love of adventuring was key to the perfect proposal for this couple. Originally meeting online, New South Wales born Glenn and Queensland born Lindsay enjoyed adventuring and doing their thing called “geocaching” together. “It’s millions of tiny caches that are all GPS tracked and they are hidden all over the world,” says Lindsay, “we get to see so many places we would never have found were it not for geocaching.” It was in the midst of a particularly busy time for Lindsay when Glenn organised a weekend away, with the intention of popping t he question! He had it well planned. After a massive hike to Baxter Falls, an exhausted Lindsay took an afternoon nap in the romantic log cabin he had organised, overlooking Lake Maroon at Montville. Glenn used this time to deliver the ring to his friend, who hid it in a geocache at Gerrards Lookout. So when Lindsay awoke, Glenn suggested they go get a few geocaches before dinner. “I was sleepy, still in activewear and quite frankly a mess,” she remembers, “but am always up for a geocache hunt so leapt at the chance!” Following their GPS tracker, they located the tin which Lindsay noticed was far more elaborate than any other geocaches around. She opened the antique-looking tin, and inside found a ring box. And with tourists applauding, Glenn got down on one knee and proposed! “It was overwhelming and of course I cried!” she says. To top it off, when they returned to the cabin, it was set up with champagne, chocolates, strawberries, and roses all over the place! “Romantic, thoughtful, fun and wonderful all at once!” To Lindsay, this proposal weekend remains one of the most memorable moments. “It marked the start of a very long held dream coming true,” she explains. “The feeling of finally having that rock on your finger from ‘your human’ is quite simply pure love.” Neither Glenn nor Lindsay were keen on a long engagement, however due to COVID they had no choice but to postpone their wedding date. Lots of Pinteresting followed over that 12 month period. The Pinterested styling options were not utilised in the end however given their auspicious venue - the iconic Queensland Art Gallery was an incredible setting in itself!

...makes me so excited
and content
Before their big day arrived, Lindsay’s girlfriends arranged a long lunch in 1960’s Slim Aarans theme at Helenika at The Calile. “It was just so much fun! I dressed in a 1960’s mini dress with voluminous 60’s inspired veil I designed and made.” Glenn’s bucks party involved an escape room experience, followed by poker and a bonfire night. Agreeing on most decisions, one that caused a slight hiccup was their differing opinions on the timing of the cars. Apart from that, they completely agreed on everything else. The thing that caused the single biggest problem was COVID. With strict border closures, their important family and friends from New South Wales and Victoria were locked out – including their photographer! As luck would have it, Queensland photographer, Natalie from Nat Lynn Photographers was available to step in. Lindsay describes the experience as lovely, saying “I’ve known Nat for over eighteen years, from our modelling days. And thankfully Nat was available to do our wedding when our original photographer could not make it up from New South Wales.” Despite the date and venue changes, the border closures and all the daily evolving restrictions at the time, their wedding day was magical. “We have to thank QAGOMA for really working with us to make the day as magical and seamless as possible,” she says. www.WeddingGuide.com.au

So many small things combined made their wedding feel so special and meaningful. “Making my own wedding dress was incredibly special in so many ways,” says Lindsay, “and I felt connected to my Grandma Lenore during that process. I know she was looking down on me and guiding me with every stitch.” Not only did Lindsay make her own gown, she also made her sister’s maid of honour gown and designed her junior bridesmaids dresses, worn by Glenn’s two daughters – her new step-daughters. She had flowers from her mum’s wedding veil put onto her Juliette crown millinery for the ceremony (her mum cried), and used the rose petal confetti which her dad had been carefully cultivating especially for this day. Fifty-five guests attended their wedding in person, but in the end they actually had about three hundred people attend their ceremony – albeit remotely, thanks to Saint Mary’s Church live streaming the entire wedding ceremony so their interstate guests could bear witness and be a part of their special day. After the service, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour overlooking Brisbane city, with volunteer parishioners serving them champagne on the lawn. “Really gorgeous and special,” says Lindsay. Remembering how accommodating all of their suppliers and entertainers were, she says, “we would choose them all again in a heartbeat.” The Queensland Art Gallery, with a backdrop of the immense two story chandelier art by Ai Wei Wei suspended over water, the catwalk feature, the iconic dandelion fountains all lit up, and the art all around them, offered a magnificent magical setting for their reception.

“One guest was so overwhelmed she felt like she was in an actual reallife fairytale!” She says, “it means a lot to us that our guests felt the same beauty, love and magic that we did.” Fittingly, bomboniere for their guests included crystals - amethyst and citrine, to soak up the beautiful energy for guests to take with them. For their special night, Glenn’s ‘virtual best man’ Oliver, who was stuck in New South Wales, went out of his way to contact their other restricted interstate guests, to make a video of all of their messages to show on the night on a big screen. “That was so moving and special,” she remembers. “But of course the biggest surprise was Glenn serenading me with a song he prepared – George Formby’s ‘Leaning on a Lamppost’ – a charming little song from 1937.” Glenn had secretly taken a few singing lessons in the weeks leading up to the day. “When he stood up from the table on the night and went to lean against a column with the roving mic, I was a bit perplexed, but what ensued just blew me away. So special. Grooms everywhere have big shoes to fill now. Glenn has well and truly set the bar!” In her own speech, Lindsay also surprised Glenn as she sang the first phrase of Eta James ‘At last’. “Not a dry eye in the house!” she recalls. Enjoying music from Queensland’s oldest pipe organ at Saint Mary’s Church, a violin duet called Musik Konstantin as they exited the church, a harpist Tijana Kozarcic playing during their cocktail hour, and venue band Frankie Smart Band at their reception, Lindsay and Glenn and their guests were serenaded by music throughout their special day. Their elegant wedding didn’t end at their reception though. They had also made plans for an after party at the Piano Bar in the Emporium Hotel Southbank. Lindsay in her glam second dress featuring sequins and feathers, enjoyed cocktails with Glenn and their guests, all of whom were in high spirits and keen to continue celebrating into the night. They finally retired to spend their first night at The Empire Hotel Southbank. “We were always going for a two-week honeymoon within Australia due to the time we could take off,” says Lindsay. “We initially thought Tasmania, as our original wedding date was in May and winter in Tassy would be cosy. But with the date change and border restrictions we were forced to honeymoon in our own backyard – the GLORIOUS far North Queensland – tough compromise!” www.WeddingGuide.com.au

Finding it hard to define one highlight, Lindsay distills her list down to just four: • Sunset Daintree River Eco Tour where they saw all the wildlife, including crocodiles, in a completely natural habitat. • Hayman Island where they snorkled at Blue Pearl Bay and saw giant clams, corals, fish and two giant royal blue star fish the size of large plates! • W hitehaven Indulgence Tour where they were dropped off by helicopter onto the beach with a blanket, bottle of champagne and no one else in sight. “Highly recommend” • Hayman Island, Sunset Escapade where they pack you a big hamper of freshly prepared food and champagne and take you by boat to a sheltered part of the island where you sit and watch the sunset. “Unforgettable” Lindsay’s wedding advice:
Pack hair spray, bobby pins, flats for walking around your photo shoot (we covered so much ground and needed to rest my feet!!) and it sounds strange but make sure you get a few personal photo memories on your own phone. You can never have enough angles and piccies to remember the day from a really personal perspective. “Marrying your person is the true essence of the day. There is something so sacred and special about that and doing it in front of all your dear ones, the gravity and energy of the day will live in my heart forever. And the wonderful thing is that every time I look at my husband, I remember that day we shared, and all the adventures and memories we are yet to have makes me so excited and content. Can we do it all again!!??”

PHOTOGRAPHY
Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your wedding. Whoever you choose will be in charge of creating lasting memories of your special day, so take into account the style, special effects and quality of the photographs you would like. Your photography requirements are unique, so it is important to choose a photographer that reflects your personal style and meets your wedding needs. Studio SW19

NATURAL ENVIRONMENT PHOTOGRAPHY Taking advantage of the natural beauty surrounding them, photographers are creating some breathtaking photos for weddings. With these shots, the couple are captured within a setting that shows them to be a small part of a much larger environment. This connection with nature produces powerfully emotive images. Couples are also taking advantage of Drones to capture stunning aerial shots of them in the Natural Environment from a whole different perspective.

SAME DAY EDITS Same day edits offer entertainment at your reception for your guests. They will love watching a slideshow of the day! Just make sure that your photographer doesn’t miss out on good photo opportunities due to being busy making the slideshow. If more than one photographer is shooting your wedding, then there will be no need for concern. It’s a great idea as long as the important stuff on the day is still being captured. Studio SW19

Gold Coast wedding industry veteran Bree Nicholls and her team from Your Wedding Planner created this beautiful styled shoot that mixed traditional elements of a wedding (white gown and gorgeous florals) with hip modern design (whimsical engagement rings and Fedora hats). The location was at the newly released Misty Mountain Estate in Back Creek, New South Wales, just a one hour drive south of the Queensland border. The mountainside Estate features rolling farm land, cattle, horses, immense birdlife and incredible views to Mt Warning, The Pinnacle and beyond. It is a dry hire exclusive venue where you can let your creativity go wild. We can see outdoor ceremonies, marquee receptions, food trucks and festoon lights. Bree says she wanted to portray a more luxurious and modern take on the country wedding, “This shoot isn’t just boho or contemporary inspired - it’s a combination of rarity, romance, tranquility and purpose. Rarely do you find such a beautiful hinterland property that is so impeccably manicured. And, within it, we feel we captured its myriad of landscapes.” The colour scheme included pretty pastel shades of apricots, pinks and fresh greens with masculine touches of black and copper. The table decor didn’t disappoint either, offering a great balance of organic and elegant touches.

creativeinspiration Couture Bridal designer, Ashleigh Jane, selected the perfect gowns for our models Tatyana and Michelle. The Amara, Prosecco and Willow dresses were perfectly paired with custom Blair Capes, which are also conveniently detachable, and KJH Surf fedoras. Sparkling engagement rings, wedding bands and earrings were supplied by elite and custom jewellers (Jewellery Warehouse) featuring both diamonds and a range of gemstones. Tatyana and Michelle’s hair and makeup design was carefully executed by Theresa Eltagonde, keeping a natural and soft look with enhanced eyes. Belinda and Bethany from Adam’s Garden Florist are lovers of natural and unstructured designs so the bouquets and arrangements featured are dramatic with arching fresh greenery and wild grown flowers that really achieve a soft, romantic look. A mix of orchids, open roses and dried natives were unexpectedly crafted into these eye-gouging, unstructured creations. Yokos Photography and Hayden Phoenix Photography captured some incredible bridal portraits amongst the landscapes. From the horses and stable to the ceremony and even the idyllic swing (provided by Kiss & Tell Weddings & Events) the photography could have kept going for hours on end! Towards the end of the day the natural light that glittered through the Estate provided a stunning backdrop for some mesmerising images.

RINGS & JEWELLERY
The exchange of rings is the most traditional expression of your love for one another. Remember when selecting the engagement ring it will be worn for the rest of your life, so think carefully about your investment. The diamond is still the most popular and traditional choice of gem, but there’s nothing stopping you from choosing a coloured gem if you prefer. When selecting the stone, particularly a diamond, the four most important characteristics to look for are the cut, colour, clarity and carat weight.

ceremony
YOUR CEREMONY, YOUR CHOICE Your ceremony is the most important part of your wedding day. It’s the moment where you will both express your love and commitment to each other; where your partnership is made legal in the eyes of the law and in the company of your family and friends.
Your vows are considered to be some of the most important words that you will ever say to each other, so where you choose to say these words needs to be carefully considered. Whether a church, chapel, beach, garden or elsewhere, choose a setting that reflects your style and has an ambience that feels special to you both.
Church Weddings
Most couples that get married in a church do so for religious reasons. At least one partner, but usually both are expected to follow the beliefs of the church. Most church leaders advise pre-marital counselling sessions and some will require you to complete a questionnaire. The main thing is to ensure you feel happy and comfortable with your church leader. They will have an important role in your wedding, so being able to communicate with them well is vital. A traditional church ceremony may be more structured than a civil ceremony, but there will usually be some options available to personalise your ceremony.

Chapel Weddings
Chapel weddings are very popular as many cater for both religious and civil wedding ceremonies. Historical wedding chapels provide a timeless and elegant backdrop for the ceremony and over the last number of years Queensland has seen the careful renovation and restoration of several churches into wedding Chapels. As with church weddings, chapels eliminate the stress associated with outdoor weddings as weather and parking are no longer an issue to worry about. Many chapels also provide couples with the option of hosting cocktail drinks after the wedding ceremony. Cocktail drinks can provide an excellent interlude before the wedding reception where the couple can take their photos while ensuring their guests are looked after and enjoying themselves.
Studio SW19
Winery Weddings.
Many Wineries offer on-site facilities for an exclusive wedding ceremony, with the vineyard as a backdrop or a water feature as just some of the options available. They can provide privacy and create a sense of seclusion for guests to totally relax and enjoy fine wine, food and service. If you’ve dreamt of exchanging your vows in the countryside, a farmhouse wedding may be suitable, or for something a little different again; a yacht or cruise wedding.
Garden/Country Weddings
The beauty of the natural environment appeals to many couples as it usually calls for a less formal-type wedding. A country wedding is ideal if you prefer a private rustic setting, or if you favour a garden wedding, there are many private gardens Richie Norris Photos or public parks available for use. Things to consider are: access to parking for guests, noise issues such as passing traffic, power availability, rest room distance, shelter availability. Whether a country or garden wedding, it’s advisable to inspect the grounds before booking to ensure it’s suitable for your special day. If you choose a public park, you will need to advise the local council in advance to avoid any conflicting arrangements, and organise any permits which may be necessary. Nat Lynn Photographers

Beach Weddings
For many couples, marrying on the beach is a natural choice as it reflects an important part of their lives together. A beach wedding, like all weddings is bound by restrictions and considerations. As well as the points relating to garden weddings, couples choosing to marry on the beach should consult their local council for permission. The tides, sand, wind and sun are all factors that you will have to take into consideration when planning a beach wedding.

WEDDING STYLING & HIRE
When it comes to wedding styling, we often put weddings into categories such as rustic, bohemian, vintage to name a few. In reality though, every wedding is unique and these categories are not meant to be rigid, but more a framework to work with and take from it what appeals to you. Professional wedding stylists can decorate your ceremony right through to your reception in a way that reflects who you are as a couple. They can help you narrow down your wedding ‘look’ and supply you with beautiful decor to suit your style.

Pre-WeddingCelebrations
PRE-WEDDING CELEBRATIONS There are a number of celebrations to enjoy before your big day comes around. Traditional events include an engagement party, a bridal shower, kitchen tea and the ever popular hens and bucks party! There are only two rules: 1. If you have an all night dusk till dawn outing, don’t hold it on the eve of the wedding. 2. Enjoy yourself!

bomboniere
BOMBONIERE It is a nice idea to leave your guests something sweet to take home as a token of appreciation for their attendance and gifts. ‘Bomboniere’ is an Italian word meaning ‘sweet favour’ (French Bonbonniere), and in Australia the word has come to represent the small gift the married couple gives to each reception guest. Traditionally a bag of five sugared almonds to signify health, wealth, happiness, long life and fertility, bomboniere now takes many forms.

videography
CAPTURE YOUR STORY WITH VIDEOGRAPHY Your wedding video will be the most detailed reminder of your wedding day. Most couples find it an amazing experience to look back after a few years and re-live the big day. Video captures many small things that most people forget, or don’t even see on the wedding day. Wedding videos are very popular, so you will need to book a good videographer early. The best advice is as soon as you can...at least six and preferably twelve months prior to your wedding day.

Most brides and grooms spend months of planning for their special day, making sure every single little detail is perfect. Then on the day, they are usually too busy to take it all in! The day goes so fast and before you know it, it’s time to leave the reception with your new spouse.
plus all of the little things that came together so well on the day, can be watched later and relived as often as you please.
If you had a videographer though, the highlights, the things that made you laugh, the things you didn’t even see on the day, your friends and family celebrating with you, your vows, the toasts,
While your photographer will take those all important photos for your wedding album, your videographer will be capturing everything in between.
Plus if you have close family that can’t make it to your wedding, what nicer way than to surprise them with highlights of your wedding so they can share your experience.

transport
TRANSPORT Transport can be as simple as decorating the best cars you, your friends and family have to offer, or as unique and charming as a horse drawn carriage, fleet of vintage cars, BMW convertibles, Chrysler 300C’s or a stretch limousine. But it doesn’t end there; buses, motorbikes and even helicopters have been used to create an awe inspiring entrance. Arrangements to and from the wedding ceremony usually only differ in that afterwards the bride and groom will travel together. Organising wedding transport is usually a task that the groom, best man or groomsmen organise. With a number of different styles of vehicles available, you should have no trouble choosing one that reflects your overall wedding theme, however book as early as possible as they are popular and you don’t want to be disappointed.

catering
CATERING
There’s one thing guests always remember about a wedding - the food and drinks! Caterers are very versatile and can work just about anywhere you want them to. They can offer a buffet or smorgasbord style presentation to full silver service. Their service usually includes the preparation and serving of food and/or drinks, the provision of cutlery and crockery and the cleaning up afterwards, yay!
Nat Lynn Photographers
It can often prove difficult to meet all the needs of your guests nowadays with the prevalence of food allergies and intolerances; gluten-free, lactose-free, meat-free, dairyfree, are just some of the common requests which need to be respected. So it’s more important than ever to choose a caterer you are confident with, allowing you and your guests to relax and enjoy the party. Food truck catering is now also very popular at weddings. Offering unique gourmet food, they’re a great idea if you’re organising your own catering. Dishing up unique and creative fare that tick all the boxes, they come to your address, feed your guests, then pack up easily once done.

honeymoon&accommodation A honeymoon has traditionally been the time when newly married couples relax and recuperate after their wedding. Often taken in exotic or romantic locations it allows the newly married couple to enjoy an intimate holiday together before returning to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Some couples with busy schedules or budget constraints may choose to just have a ‘mini moon’ which is a short trip taken to a destination relatively nearby, leaving the honeymoon to a later date when they have the time and budget. Whether a honeymoon or mini moon, reservations should be made as soon as you start planning your wedding, particularly if the destination will be experiencing it’s peak season at the time of your getaway.
HONEYMOON & ACCOMMODATION
Before you embark on your honeymoon, it’s a good idea to choose somewhere special to stay on your wedding night; preferably close to your reception as you may not feel like travelling too far. While that gorgeous little cottage in the woods may seem like the ideal ‘ first night’ spot; after a two- hour drive, you will probably just want to go to sleep! Flowers, chocolates, champagne and a spa bath can make your first night together as a married couple extra special, and many accommodation venues provide these as part of their special honeymoon packages. Nat Lynn Photographers

PORTUGAL Dreaming of a destination wedding? Portugal has it all: from beautiful golden beaches to quaint cobblestone villages to majestic medieval castles. One of the oldest countries in Europe, Portugal’s location on the Atlantic Ocean has influenced many aspects of its culture, including its National dishes of salted cod and grilled sardines. A vibrant destination where the hospitable locals all speak English, you will fall in love with Lisbon’s strip of beaches, museums and castles; Porto’s wine-tasting tours and cruises down the Douro River; Sintra for it’s Palaces; and Nazaré renowned for the biggest and some of the best waves in the world. If a romantic destination wedding is your dream, be it in a 15th century manor surrounded by vines in the countryside, or an 18th century palace in Lisbon or Porto, then a wedding in Portugal is highly recommended.
