CHOOSING

YOUR GOWN

Every Bride wants to look stunning on her wedding day, and finding ‘The One’ - that perfect gown that makes you feel just right, is an important step towards achieving this. When shopping for your gown, consider the style of your wedding and the season you’ll be married. Most of us have a general idea of what we would like in a wedding gown, but remember to keep an open mind. Designers agree that when it comes to bridal gowns, you need to try on a number of different styles as you never know what might make you look and feel amazing.

“THE STRUCTURE OF FABRIC” HOUSE OF EZIS www.houseofezis.com

WHEN FREDDIE MET LILLY

In 2005, the story of House of Ezis began when SIZE urban wear was transformed into EZIS couture. Disillusioned with the traditional wedding look that dominated the market, former architect Andrzej Pytel set out to change the bridal industry. Since completing his degree in Architecture and showcasing at the Venice International Biennale, Pytel’s multidisciplinary background inspired him to turn to the world of fashion – where he was able to merge art, architecture and design into extraordinary wearable pieces. Our central design philosophy seeks to find the balance between structured and draped silhouettes. The internal tension that arises through this exploration, results in masterpieces that are highly tailored and full of life whilst bringing out the creative expression of the female form – gowns that women feel confident and empowered in. The House of Ezis atelier is located in the heart of Brisbane with a studio that showcases over 160 samples to be tried on during a private appointment with the designer. From conceptual design sketches and testing to the construction of the dress, the creation of each wedding gown is a truly bespoke experience. All of our gowns are handmade in Australia and we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and care, providing our brides with a made to measure service that is one of a kind to ensure that you have the perfect dress with a perfect fit.

www.whenfreddiemetlilly.com.au When Freddie Met Lilly is a bridal, formalwear and suiting boutique, that creates bespoke and off-therack designs for a diverse range We are Twine of clients. DRESSING z

GROOM As well as looking good, the groom needs to feel comfortable on his wedding day. A well fitted suit will provide both - style and comfort. Consider the cut, colour, size and style when suit shopping for your wedding - and accessorise! It’s the attention to detail that will really shine through on the day.

CHOOSING YOUR SUIT

Before you race out to buy a suit, it’s worthwhile to consider your options. While your upcoming wedding is the perfect opportunity to introduce something new into the wardrobe, hiring is also a viable option. A well-fitted suit is a must for your special day, whether you’re considering hiring, purchasing off the rack, tailor made or bespoke.

EKP Studios

STYLE:

Will it be a formal, classic, modern, rustic or casual beach styled wedding? Knowing this will influence your dress code and the style of suit you wear. Formal black-tie: A well tailored, fitted and minimalistic black tuxedo with a classic crisp white shirt, black leather shoes and a black bowtie will have you looking the part.

CUT:

Maleny Wedding Photography

A slim fit suit is popular with the young modern male. It has a neat fit, and is flattering for a slimmer built physique. A tailored fit is a timeless style of suit. It allows a more generous fit than a slim fit suit, but is not as roomy as a regular fit. It features clean lines and a stylish silhouette. Tip: A double breasted suit works wonders if you want to camouflage a larger waistline.

COLOUR:

You don’t want to clash with the bridal party, but you don’t need to match perfectly either. It’s best to try to subtly complement colours rather than match. Focus on matching the accessories instead which will help to tie everything together.

SIZE:

A poorly fitted suit just won’t do on your wedding day. When trying on a suit jacket, the first thing to note is how the shoulders fit. If it’s too tight (shoulder bite) or too loose (shoulder sag), it’s best to try on a different size. Some sizing problems can be easily altered, while other corrections aren’t so easy. There are plenty of styles available, so with a bit of perseverance, you’re sure to find the perfect fit.

While usually worn for formal style weddings, a black tuxedo, when coupled with more casual accessories can also look just as at home in a less formal setting. Semi-formal: A well tailored suit is a focal point of semiformal attire. A little subdued, It’s not so much about the accessories as it is about an exceptionally tailored suit. A dark blue or dark grey suit would work well here. Narrow cut styles look modern and classic, and with the addition of a slim tie and black or brown leather shoes, this look retains a certain amount of formality without the ‘stuffiness’ of a formal tuxedo. Cocktail: Cocktail attire is a little more about the individual details such as a stylish tie or textured/checkered shirt. Perfect for a modern styled wedding. Smart casual: A smart casual style is usually achieved with less structured, softer textured materials. Think waistcoats without a jacket or suspenders to add a casual rustic charm. Perfect for beach or country weddings.

DRESSING

THE BRIDAL PARTY Nat Lynn Photographers

Choosing and co-ordinating the outfits for the entire wedding party is usually one of the most enjoyable aspects of planning a wedding. As well as dressing for the occasion, comfort (especially for the children in your wedding party), is a necessity. The best way to keep your bridesmaids happy is by ensuring they feel comfortable and confident in their chosen dresses. It’s a good idea to start looking early, particularly for shoes and accessories, as it can be a time consuming task if you have a number of bridesmaids.

Nat Lynn Photographers

When it comes to the groomsmen’s attire, it’s important to have a basic idea of the style of the bridesmaids’ dresses to ensure they will complement each other. The groomsmen usually differ from the groom by wearing a different coloured vest, tie or other accessories.

Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your wedding. Whoever you choose will be in charge of creating lasting memories of your special day, so take into account the style, special effects and quality of the photographs you would like. Your photography requirements are unique, so it is important to choose a photographer that reflects your personal style and meets your wedding needs.

MOTHER OF THE BRIDE & GROOM The Mother of the Bride & Groom dress code is generally a little more formal and a little more outstanding than that of other guests. The colour should complement your bridesmaids and be a colour that she is comfortable wearing. Your wedding will be one of the highlights of her life as well, so it’s important that she looks and feels fabulous too!

It was at a work colleagues housewarming party that Nilona first met Daniel. “I know it’s cheesy, but sparks were flying straightaway,” she says, “it was effortless to make conversation and I don’t know that we really spoke to anyone else the entire night.” Ever since, they’ve thoroughly enjoyed each others company, “and we love spending time together, just the two of us,” she adds. Often they would head over to Stradbroke Island and spend the night at the resort, where their day would be spent on the water, they’d have lunch, explore the island and then end up on the beach at night enjoying each others company around a bonfire. However, on this one particular night as they were heading back to the restaurant, Dan had made other plans. “...on our way we walked through the wedding chapel in the resort,” says Nilona, “I still had no idea at all. It wasn’t until he took my hands and got down on one knee that I realised what was happening!” Funnily enough, they had always talked about marriage, and often times Nilona had found herself thinking, “I wonder if today’s going to be the day.” But on this occasion, it was the furtherest thing from her mind, and she was taken completely by surprise – shocked in fact, that he had got away with purchasing the ring by himself, and proposing without her having even the slightest clue!

“The moment was so intimate, just the two of us standing at the altar of a wedding chapel! It was beautiful! And of course I cried the whole time!” she remembers. Not wanting to wait too long to get married, they set themselves a wedding date of only three months time – but Nilona swears it was plenty of time. “People think we rushed the planning, however it was all planned with a month to spare, just waiting for the day to arrive,” she insists. Amazing, considering they purchased and made their own flower arrangements, their cake and their bomboniere! They decided against having an engagement party due to their short engagement, so Dan just had a bucks weekend instead. Nilona’s hens weekend was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID – but she says she ended up having a post wedding hens party instead which was still heaps of fun. Sea World Resort was both Nilona and Dan’s venue of choice. They had picked it out about two years previously as they both just loved the place! “Dan had always thought when he was to get married, he’d love for it to be at Sea World Resort,” she says adding, “it’s so well looked after, the grounds are beautiful around the resort, the service and food has always been perfect, and the rooms are lovely, nicely renovated.” www.WeddingGuide.com.au

They had always wanted to get married overlooking the water, and on the Gold Coast where they both grew up, so Sea World Resort was the perfect dream wedding location for them. Having missed out on her hens night before their wedding, Nilona was thrilled to be offered a bridal shower high tea in the lobby lounge bar, as a part of Sea World Resort’s wedding package. “The high tea food was sooo delicious,” she emphasises, “and with my million dietary requirements, they really went above and beyond to make sure I had the most memorable experience.” Absolutely perfect weather greeted their guests who travelled from Gladstone, Mackay, and Hervey Bay for their wedding. Unfortunately, COVID prevented Nilona’s brother in Canada, her cousins in Sydney, and one of her bridesmaids in Canberra from attending. There was also a bit of an unexpected problem, with Nilona’s original hairdresser cancelling at 8am as she was unwell. Thankfully, she put Nilona in touch with another hairdresser, Lisa Belgrave – lisabelhair – who quickly took over and did a “beautiful job” says Nilona. “For someone who didn’t know she was working a wedding until two hours before she had to be there, she was so organised, professional and just such a lovely human being. I couldn’t recommend her enough!” she says. Trying hard not to cry as she walked down the aisle, she admits she was so nervous with everyone watching her. “I really didn’t think walking would be that nerve wracking, but it was,” she says, “luckily I had flat shoes on so I didn’t need to be concerned about tripping in heels!”

Once she had made it down the aisle to Dan, she was fine. “The words spoken were what we wanted to say to each other and it felt like we were the only two people there,” she remembers. After their ceremony in the wedding gazebo in the gardens of Sea World Resort, guests were entertained in the lobby bar, while Nilona and Dan and their wedding party had their photographs taken. “It was great to have the ceremony and reception all in one place so there was no travelling in between,” says Nilona. The Presidential Room, where they had their reception was like the rest of the day, “amazing”, she says. “The food was so good, and the service from all the staff was just incredible.” The guests loved it all! “None of them had been to Sea World Resort for a function before, so they were very delighted at how beautiful the place was.” At the end of their special day, Nilona and Dan stayed in the Presidential Suite, in a beautiful room overlooking the Broadwater. “It really was a perfect day, and we go back to Sea World Resort as often as we can to relive the memories. It’s just such a beautiful venue which will always have significance to us.”

It really was a perfect day

Their two week honeymoon took in the Northerlies, on the other side of the bay to Airlie Beach, then Daydream Island, followed by Hamilton Island and lastly, Airlie Beach. Daydream Island was their favourite stop. “It was just out of this world!” Says Nilona, “it was during their quiet season, so we pretty much had the island to ourselves. Was very cool being able to sit and have breakfast right next to their indoor living reef with sharks swimming by.” Nilona’s wedding advice:

“Try and relax and enjoy the whole process, from planning to the day. Things won’t always go perfectly to plan, but if you don’t let it bother you, then you and your groom will be able to enjoy the whole experience, and the day will just be as perfect as you had wanted.”

When Brad bent down on one knee on the beach at Lennox Heads and proposed to Shannon, she admits she was in complete shock! The ring, which had taken him many months of shopping around to find, was finally presented to her. And it was perfect “the most gorgeous ring,” she says. Shannon and Brad first met each other when they were in year 10, while working at Hungry Jacks in Surfers Paradise. And now, here they were, 30 years later, excited to finally start planning their wedding. Planning wasn’t so straightforward though, thanks to the pandemic. They had to change their date a number of times, before finally settling on the 18th of September 2021 for their special day. With plenty of time between their engagement in January 2020 to their wedding date in September 2021, Shannon was able to try on lots – and lots of dresses!

“I tried on so many! Dozens! The style kept changing too,” she remembers. Having envisioned herself in a casual boho/beach style to fit in with their wedding at Miami Beach, she soon came to realise that Brad wanted a more traditional style wedding. Wanting it to be right for herself, for Brad, and for the photos, she invested a lot of time on her dress. Thankfully, the effort to find the perfect gown proved to be a success, and she received so many lovely compliments on the day, and lots of gorgeous wedding photos captured by Studio SW19, who she says were very professional and lovely to work with. Both Shannon and Brad were relieved they escaped a snap lockdown, but with the Queensland border closures, their family and friends from NSW and Victoria were sadly locked out and unable to attend. One of Brad’s longest friends, their manager from back in their Hungry Jacks days, was also their MC and luckily was able to travel from South Australia to be with them. With their son as their ring bearer, one of Shannon’s oldest friends as their celebrant, their mutual friend of over 20 years doing a reading for them, and their nieces also performing a reading; their special day was filled with love. “Our wedding day was truly amazing. Everything ran perfectly. It was a perfect day,” recalls Shannon.

Following their beach ceremony, they held their reception at the Miami Surf Club. It was the perfect size for their 60 guests, with space to enjoy the stand up canapes while listening to their talented solo artist, Richard Neill, who entertained them throughout the evening. “He was wonderful in that he specially learnt to play our procession song, ‘I Choose You’ by Ryann Darling, and one of my favourite songs, ‘These Days’ by Powderfinger,” says Shannon. They also had a photo booth to provide a bit of fun and keep guests entertained throughout the night. “Everyone that gave us feedback said that they had a great time,” Shannon remembers, “they said it was a beautiful wedding, yet fun and laid back.” “We couldn’t have asked for a better day. It was a stressful lead up, due to borders being closed, potential lockdowns, and even the chance it wouldn’t go ahead – but everything turned out perfect. It was meant to be, and we are meant to be,” she says. Like most couples, they couldn’t believe how quickly the day went by. Shannon remembers wanting to try to make the day go slower so that they could absorb all the love and enjoy the event that so much time and effort had gone into - but before long, they were departing to Horizons Holiday Apartment for their first night as a married couple.

They then went on to the beautiful destination of Hamilton Island for their honeymoon, where they marvelled at the beauty of the water, the wildlife, and the gardens, and enjoyed the restaurants with their attentive and helpful staff. “You can do as much or as little as you like on any given day. The island is so clean and so relaxed,” says Shannon, “it was the perfect place for our honeymoon.” Shannon’s wedding advice:

“Try not to sweat the small stuff. Most people don’t realise or notice all the tiny details and are just there to celebrate your special day. Also, weddings don’t have to cost a fortune. Try to be clever with purchases – hire, buy second hand, borrow, etc. But if you want something that is going to mean a lot to you and your future husband, then just do it.”

Since the moment they were introduced by Ash’s younger sister, Ash and Sam have always been there for one another. It was during what was to be a romantic sunlit dinner in the sand dunes at Kawana Beach, that Sam planned to finally propose to Ash. It didn’t quite go to plan though, thanks to the weather. Ash remembers Sam acting very unsettled, rushing through his dinner as the clouds threatened to rain any minute. “He finished his dinner in about five minutes and tried to convince me that I didn’t have to eat mine if I didn’t want to,” she says, “I of course was hungry, so ate my dinner...” Poor Sam had just enough time left by then to quickly propose, before they both sprinted to their car in the pouring rain! With 18 months set aside to plan their wedding, they both had plenty of time to plan and enjoy their pre-wedding celebrations. Ash went south to the Gold Coast where they went to the Pink Flamingo and enjoyed a bottomless brunch at the Little Mermaid. Sam travelled north to Cairns, where he and his mates experienced go carting, played golf, and survived three full nights of drinking!

The one thing that Ash and Sam admitted to being nervous about as their wedding approached, was their ‘first dance’. In fact, recalls Ash, “the only fight we had was when we tried to choreograph a first dance.” So from that point on, they took up professional dance lessons. “Was a super fun experience – highly recommended,” she says. Their decision to get married at Twin Waters Golf Club proved to be the perfect choice. “We didn’t feel like we had to do much at all until the last few weeks,” she remembers. Their wedding coordinator, Georgina, from Twin Waters Golf Club handled everything and made everything so simple for them. “She is organised, so nice and honestly, just the person everyone needs for their wedding.” When their special day arrived, it was perfect – a beautiful sunny day with minimal wind. Due to COVID, they unfortunately only had guests from Queensland who were able to attend. Ash’s bridesmaid was the one exception. She was able to travel from Western Australia to attend, however on her return, she had to complete a full two weeks of quarantine.

Both Ash and Sam wanted their wedding to be personal. They wanted to be surrounded by friends – to have a day full of people who meant something to them. From their hairdresser, who was a friend of Ash’s; to their videographer who was one of their closest friends and an old roommate; their florist Jess, an old friend from their home town of Hervey Bay; their entertainer who was Ash’s cousin; to Ash’s sister who sang for their ‘first dance’; to their celebrant Tiarrn, one of their best friends who only recently became a celebrant in order to do their wedding (and others) – Ash and Sam were truly happy to be surrounded by them all. “Being together for 8 years, we both couldn’t believe how nervous and shaky we got,” she says, recalling the heightened emotions they both experienced on their wedding day. “The nerves surprised both of us.” One of the most memorable aspects of their wedding were the speeches. “Our speeches were definitely so special and memorable. We both cried like babies and laughed so hard,” she says. The food at Twin Waters Golf Club was incredible also, says Ash, “and the staff went out of their way to keep everyone happy.” Everyone had plenty of room to dance and enjoy themselves throughout the night.

“We just wanted everyone to be able to have a good time and socialise. We tried to create a day that had minimal sitting so we had time to see everyone.” At the conclusion of what was an emotional day, Ash and Sam stayed at Santorini Twin Waters for their ‘first night’, and then later travelled to Tasmania for their honeymoon. “We had multiple honeymoons cancelled, refunded and replanned, thanks to COVID,” says Ash, “but so happy we went to Tasmania.” Their highlight was staying at Freycinet Lodge, while their favourite restaurant – with the best food and cocktails – was Mud Bar, in Launceston. Ash’s wedding advice:

“Get a wedding planner and allow them to help. Your day goes so fast and the last thing you want to be doing is worrying about organising, and how the day is running. They are your favourite person on the day and life savers.”

With Christmas approaching and at 37 weeks pregnant, Tayla was busy wrapping Christmas presents when Ryan arrived home from work. “He was so nervous, I could see him shaking,” she remembers, as he got down on one knee to propose to her. “It was such a beautiful moment and both of us were teary as I said yes...” A month following their engagement, their first daughter Sophie was born. By the time they got married, she was already 14 months old and walking down the aisle with Ryan’s younger sisters holding her hands. It actually only took Tayla and Ryan 5 months to plan their wedding, but due to the uncertainty of 2020 due to the pandemic, they decided to put their wedding plans on hold for a while at the start. They both knew exactly what they wanted for their special day though. It was simple – a relaxed beach wedding and a fun night of dancing to follow. “We were lucky enough to have our wedding at our dream location,” says Tayla, “on the beach at Tangalooma Island Resort.” For a beach wedding ceremony, the weather was perfect, with beautiful blue sky and a warm 29 degrees.

Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, they couldn’t have any out of state guests attend, but they felt fortunate to still have close friends and family from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. They also felt blessed to be able to share their wedding day with their daughter. “It was so beautiful having her there,” says Tayla. Their photographer, Edwina from EKP Studios made the day run smoothly, and Tayla and Ryan enjoyed every minute. They had earlier done an engagement shoot with Edwina, and Tayla says she was great from the moment she met her. “Great communication and professionalism, Edwina made us both feel comfortable and important through every conversation and meeting we had.” Their celebrant, Leanne was also there for them, offering advice, getting to know them as a couple, walking them through what the day would be like, and helping everything run perfectly on the day. “Everyone had a great time,” says Tayla, “they said it was nice and relaxed, emotional and fun.” After their beach ceremony, they held their reception in a beautiful upstairs space at Tangalooma Island Resort. Tayla remembers the big balcony and how lovely the room was set up. “...everyone was on the dance floor all night long,” she says, “sooo much fun!”

From the outset, they both wanted a relaxed beach wedding, and to dance the night away – and that’s exactly what they had. “It was better than we could have dreamed,” she says. Tayla and Ryan spent their ‘first night’ at Tangalooma Island Resort in a beautiful room overlooking the ocean. They loved it so much they decided to stay an extra few nights. Tayla admits she loved so many photos taken by her photographer, that they decided to have two wedding albums made! “They were very fun to work with through it all,” she says of Edwina and her husband. “They were very patient with me through the editing and album designing process and never rushed me.” “We were so lucky and grateful to have such a wonderful wedding day,” she says, “and one month after, we fell pregnant again and have now been blessed with our second beautiful daughter.” Tayla’s wedding advice:

“Enjoy every minute of the day, it goes so fast and this is what all the planning beforehand led up to – so you could enjoy your day with your husband, family and closest friends.”

They met at work 22 years ago, but with Julie based in Toowoomba and Rory in Brisbane, she says, “we didn’t cross paths very often at all over those years.” Down the track though, as their relationship grew, Rory proposed to Julie. It was on a beach at Kingscliff - his love for the beach made it the perfect place to pop the question. Planning their wedding was Julie’s responsibility. With Rory’s busy work schedule, he was happy with whatever she chose. “All he had to do was turn up” she remarks. Like many other weddings at the time however, Julie and Rory’s original wedding plans for 7th November 2020 had to be postponed due to COVID. They rescheduled their wedding to 28th August 2021, but decided to still go on the “honeymoon” they had already booked to Hamilton Island. The Reef View Hotel provided the silver lining they needed at the time, offering the most beautiful room where they could admire the amazing turquoise blue water from their bed.

Unfortunately as their new wedding date approached, COVID was still ruining couples’ plans, with some family and friends unable to travel or enter Queensland due to border restrictions. To make matters worse, right at the last minute the border bubble closed, stranding their Best Man and wedding musician in NSW. Needless to say, that last week leading up to their wedding became a frantic rush to find a replacement musician, and buy a suit, shirt and shoes for Rory’s son-in-law, who stepped in as Best Man. 75 guests were still able to attend their pastel pink and gold themed wedding held at Highfields Cultural Centre, and for those that couldn’t attend, Julie says, “we set up a live stream video for all the interstate and overseas family and friends to watch the wedding, it was great!” After such an uncertain lead up to their wedding, thankfully their wedding day held no surprises – all went according to plan. “All of our guests commented on what a fabulous venue it was for our reception. It was decorated beautifully, the gardens and lawn outside were lovely” she says.

With great food and extremely helpful girls who were lovely to deal with, Julie says it was wonderful and they couldn’t ask for anything better. Julie and Rory tied the knot surrounded by beautiful pastel roses in shades of pink. Beautiful flowers were everywhere - from the bouquets, to the buttonholes, the table decorations, the wedding arch and in urns as they walked down the aisle. Having both been married before, they also included a sand ceremony to signify the blending of their two families. Rory’s two children and Julie’s two children were involved in the ceremony, while their six grandsons and two granddaughters proudly walked down the aisle. Rather than a formal sit down reception, they enjoyed a cocktail style wedding which gave their guests the opportunity to mingle rather than sitting in one spot all night. In the Booth provided some fun entertainment throughout the night which everyone loved. “Our guests took away a photo memento from the wedding and we were given a lovely book that all the guests posted their photo in and wrote their messages in. Loved it” she recalls, “everyone we dealt with, from the bridal studio, to the florist, cake, photographer, videographer, musician, venue, hair & makeup artist, all were great to deal with.”

That night Rory and Julie stayed at Homewood Cottages, in Highfields followed by another honeymoon - this time their “real” honeymoon, at one of their favourite destinations – Hamilton Island. They loved it so much the first time around, they decided to go there again. Then they continued on to Coral Sea Marina Resort in Airlie Beach. “What a great resort that is too,” says Julie. Julie’s wedding advice:

“Don’t stress, everything will come together in the end and your day will be perfect even with all the hiccups along the way.”

“... you really do know when you know.” These are the words of Bronte, who admits their marriage proposal was planned from the moment they met at the Burleigh Hotel a year and a half ago. From there, things happened quickly, with Bronte and Dann getting engaged while holidaying on the Sunshine Coast in February, followed by a November wedding. Teaming up with Gold Coast Pop Up Weddings, their desired beach/boho styled wedding was planned and created with minimal fuss. “It was more than enough time for the style of wedding we had,” says Bronte. Their focus on having good people there, so everyone could have a great time and just enjoy the day was totally achieved. “It was so fun and everyone was genuinely happy and enjoying themselves the entire time,” she says. Due to the Queensland border restrictions at the time, a lot of their family, including Bronte’s dad, were unable to make it. So without her dad there to give her away, she chose to be accompanied down the aisle by her dog.

“The ceremony (Styled by Gold Coast Pop Up Weddings) looked incredible,” she remembers. And the weather was “perfect”. It was the one hot, sunny day in amongst a fortnight of gloomy, wet weather. “Everyone made a huge effort in making the one day it should be about us, literally ALL about us! We felt so special,” she says. Their Pop Up Wedding package included celebrant, Jess, who ensured she got to know them well, so she could match their vibe on the day. Also included was their photographer, Meg, who was “super lovely and involved”. Their friends who own Phoebe’s Restaurant, were so very accommodating and so too were the owners of Hazel, the orange combi they hired at the last minute – all in their own way helped to create an unforgettable day for Bronte and Dann. Wanting to keep everything simple and low key, they chose to have a bar tab and platters for their reception held at Phoebe’s, Kingscliff - and it was “amazing,” says Bronte. “...it worked so well with our style of wedding,” she adds. After the “after party”, Bronte and Dann stayed at Santai Resort in Casuarina, and are hoping to have an overseas honeymoon in the Philippines in mid 2022.

“We’re both so excited to continue our life journey together. Even though we got married pretty quickly since knowing each other, you really do know when you know,” says Bronte. “We are excited we got this part over and done with so we can just enjoy the rest as a married couple!” Bronte’s wedding advice:

“Have fun, try to take as much in as you can on the day. And most importantly, don’t sweat the small stuff...stress LESS!”

PHOTOGRAPHY Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your wedding. Whoever you choose will be in charge of creating lasting memories of your special day, so take into account the style, special effects and quality of the photographs you would like. Your photography requirements are unique, so it is important to choose a photographer that reflects your personal style and meets your wedding needs.

NATURAL ENVIRONMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

Nat Lynn Photographers

Taking advantage of the natural beauty surrounding them, photographers are creating some breathtaking photos for weddings. With these shots, the couple are captured within a setting that shows them to be a small part of a much larger environment. This connection with nature produces powerfully emotive images. Couples are also taking advantage of Drones to capture stunning aerial shots of them in the Natural Environment from a whole different perspective.

SO WHAT WEDDING TRENDS ARE PHOTOGRAPHERS SHOOTING AT THE MOMENT?

PHOTOGRAPHY

trends

NON-TRADITIONAL WEDDING PARTIES Uneven bridal parties e.g., where the bride may have more bridesmaids than the number of groomsmen. Also popular is the trend where brides might have a “brides man” rather than a “maid” and the same for the groom. Plus animals are becoming more popular, sometimes even replacing the bridal party altogether.

EKP Studios

POPULAR BRIDE SHOTS

As well as the “First Look” with their father, daddy-daughter dances are popular, as are brides giving speeches, Disney weddings and amazing veil shots - the longer the better!

EDITING STYLES Do you like black and white, natural, moody or boho (orange toned) inspired photos? Subtle differences in editing styles can make a difference to your finished album.

Producing memorable photos capturing those finer details. Close ups of the wedding table, flowers, rings etc add extra colour and beauty to a wedding album and can produce highly emotive images despite not having a person in the photo.

THE FIRST LOOK The first look is still a popular trend where couples meet up before their ceremony. The sense of anticipation makes for emotional, powerful and natural pre-wedding photos.

EKP Studios

The father-daughter first look is also popular with those who share that special bond with their dad.

SAME DAY EDITS Same day edits offer entertainment at your reception for your guests. They will love watching a slideshow of the day! Just make sure that your photographer doesn’t miss out on good photo opportunities due to being busy making the slideshow. If more than one photographer is shooting your wedding, then there will be no need for concern. It’s a great idea as long as the important stuff on the day is still being captured.

CANDID GUEST CAPTURE While candid shots of the couple are popular - so too are shots of the guests. Whether they are captured enjoying the wedding ceremony or reception, these candid shots highlight the atmosphere of your special day. EKP Studios

HEALTH & BEAUTY Your health, hair and makeup play an important role in contributing to the overall look for your wedding day. Preparation can start as soon as you’re engaged, as hair and makeup trials, health plans and treatments often take place weeks or even months prior. CAKES

Your wedding dress, your chosen venue, your stationery, your transport; all of these things combine to communicate the style of your wedding. The same goes for your wedding cake. A work of art, it proudly sits atop it’s pedestal revealing your unique wedding style to guests as they arrive at your reception. As well as looking amazing, your wedding cake should taste exceptional, so if possible make an appointment to sample a few different flavours to find that perfect blend.

OUR TIP Allow your cake designer to organise the delivery of your wedding cake to ensure it gets to your reception intact.

rings&jewellery

RINGS & JEWELLERY The exchange of rings is the most traditional expression of your love for one another. Remember when selecting your engagement or wedding ring, they will be worn for the rest of your life, so think carefully about your investment. Make sure the ring is comfortable to wear and that the metal, style and finish fits your lifestyle and is a perfect reflection of you. When selecting the stone, particularly a diamond, the four most important characteristics to look for are the cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. While the diamond is the most traditional choice of gem, there are lots of interesting coloured gems if you prefer - some even combined with minerals and fossils to really suit and enhance your individual style!

WEDDING STYLING & HIRE

Nat Lynn Photographers

When it comes to wedding styling, we often put weddings into categories such as rustic, bohemian and vintage to name a few. In reality though, every wedding is unique and these categories are not meant to be rigid, but more a framework to work with and take from it what appeals to you. Professional wedding stylists can decorate your ceremony right through to your reception in a way that reflects who you are as a couple. They can help you narrow down your wedding ‘look’ and supply you with beautiful decor to suit your style.

BOMBONIERE It is a nice idea to leave your guests something to take home as a token of appreciation for their attendance and gifts. ‘Bomboniere’ is an Italian word meaning ‘sweet favour’ (French Bonbonniere), and in Australia the word has come to represent the small gift the married couple gives to each reception guest. Traditionally a bag of five sugared almonds to signify health, wealth, happiness, long life and fertility, bomboniere now takes many forms.

videography

CAPTURE YOUR STORY WITH VIDEOGRAPHY

Your wedding video will be the most detailed reminder of your wedding day. Most couples find it an amazing experience to look back after a few years and re-live the big day. Video captures many small things that most people forget, or don’t even see on the wedding day. As wedding videos are very popular, you will need to book a good videographer early. The best advice is as soon as you can - at least six and preferably twelve months prior to your wedding day.

healthandbeauty videoreplay

VIDEO REPLAY Most brides and grooms spend months of planning for their special day, making sure every single little detail is perfect. Then on the day, they are usually too busy to take it all in! The day goes so fast and before you know it, it’s time to leave the reception with your new spouse. If you had a videographer though, the highlights, the things that made you laugh, the things you didn’t even see on the day, your friends and family celebrating with you, your vows, the toasts, plus all of the little things that came together so well on the day, can be watched later and relived as often as you please. Plus if you have close family that can’t make it to your wedding, what nicer way than to surprise them with highlights of your wedding so they can share your experience. While your photographer will take those all important photos for your wedding album, your videographer will be capturing everything in between.

transport

TRANSPORT Transport can be as simple as decorating the best cars you, your friends and family have to offer, or as unique and charming as a horse drawn carriage, fleet of vintage cars, BMW convertibles, Chrysler 300C’s or a stretch limousine. But it doesn’t end there; buses, motorbikes and even helicopters have been used to create an awe inspiring entrance. Arrangements to and from the wedding ceremony usually only differ in that afterwards the bride and groom will travel together. Organising wedding transport is usually a task that the groom, best man or groomsmen organise. With a number of different styles of vehicles available, you should have no trouble choosing one that reflects your overall wedding theme, however book as early as possible as they are popular and you don’t want to be disappointed.
