London Festival of Architecture

The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) will be back with a diverse and engaging series of public events and installations, aimed at anyone with an interest in London’s architecture and the spaces that surround us, running across the capital from 1-30 June 2023.

Aiming to bring a critical lens to city-making while looking forward with hope, so we can make our city greener, healthier, more inclusive and equitable - a London by and for all Londoners. The programme is people-led and curated by event organisers, featuring over 400 events across the capital.

LFA2023 invites organisers and participants to explore the theme of ‘In Common’, reflecting on what we share, including the finite number of natural resources we have left and the physical ‘commons’ public spaces we use. Festival-goers are also encouraged to examine what we don’t have in common, celebrating our differences and ensuring we shape and design our city alongside those with different lived experiences.

Showcasing new specially commissioned installations, talks and debates, performances and tours, workshops, and family events, LFA2023’s visitors are encouraged to take a fresh look at familiar places they may walk past everyday.

Featuring some of London’s most architecturally significant and diverse areas, the 2023 Destinations will range across Greater London, including central locations such as the City of London, Clerkenwell & Holborn, and South Westminster, and for the first time the outer London boroughs of Barnet, and Bromley (Penge & Palace), as well as the South London neighbourhood of Brixton in Lambeth and the Royal Docks in East London. Each LFA

Destination offers the public the opportunity to appreciate the architectural quality and culture of the area, as well as attend a wealth of events and activities.

Highlights of this year’s event include the Fleet Street Flower Press: a greening installation by Wayward of herbal and medicinal plants inspired by 16th century herbalist John Gerard and the area’s history of printing; and Vertical Farm-to-Fork at the Factory: an installation, tour and talk at the Factory Project in the Royal Docks showcasing the Vertical Farm-to-Fork project from Spacelab and Projekt, at its design stage using XR technology from Spheroid Universe.

The Studio Lates will also return to the festival offering the opportunity to see behind the scenes in London’s leading architecture and design practices in Shoreditch and Cambridge Heath, Southbank, Clerkenwell, Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury.

Rosa Rogina, Director of London Festival of Architecture, said: “It’s fascinating to see how this year’s programme is exploring and interrogating the theme of ‘In Common’. The experiences we do and don’t have in common are central to the evolution and development of our city; we are living in extraordinary times and have collectively become aware of a wide spectrum of systematic inequalities our cities hold, so I’m delighted the LFA2023 programme addresses many of these challenges with optimism, originality and curiosity while leaving a lasting legacy to London. I can’t wait for everyone to explore the sheer variety of events in June, from installations to workshops to tours and more, encouraging collaboration and supporting our key mission at NLA to bring people together to shape a better city.”

LALIQUE ART GALLERY

Lalique, the iconic French crystal house has opened its first art gallery in the world in an historic and prestigious London location in the heart of Mayfair. Situated in Mayfair’s Burlington Arcade, it will be the fourth retail space for the house in London joining its other boutiques in Burlington Arcade, Conduit Street and Harrods.

Lalique Art was founded in 2011 with the launch of La Victoire de Samothrace in collaboration with the Yves Klein Archives. Since then, it has worked with some of the world’s finest artists and architects, including Anish Kapoor, Arik Levy and Mario Botta.

The new gallery will showcase the Lalique Art collections including those with Damien Hirst, Zaha Hadid, Terry Rodgers, Han Meilin and Nic Fiddian-Green, as well as the new James Turrell x Lalique collaboration. The two limited edition perfume bottles, Range Rider and Purple Sage and limited-edition panels, named Crystal Light - will be exhibited for the first time in the UK together with an exclusive new limited-edition piece by the artist.

In the creation process of the art pieces, Lalique and its artist collaborators work hand in hand. The artists work closely with the artisans at Lalique’s sole factory in Alsace and with the Paris creative team headed by Lalique artistic and creative director, Marc Larminaux. Founded in 1888, Lalique has a history of artistic tradition and collaboration and celebrated 100 years of its factory in Alsace last year.

Frederick Fischer, UK managing director said, “We are delighted Lalique has chosen London to launch its first Art Gallery - the only space dedicated solely to Lalique Art and the first in the world of its kind. It is a space we can focus on Lalique Art in all its forms, creating custom curations that will be complementary to our boutiques that specialise in Lalique decorative items, furniture, jewellery and perfumes.”

From September 2023, the gallery will showcase a new collection in collaboration with the Magritte Foundation in which the work of René Magritte is captured in six crystal sculptures in this, the year that marks the 125th anniversary of the artist’s birth.

London Art Week

30 June - 7 July

London Art Week Summer 2023 will open on Friday 30 June and runs through to Friday 7 July.

The UK’s leading fine arts selling event, held both in galleries and online, the art week features 51 participants. Expert dealers will be on hand offering museum quality examples of decorative arts, paintings, sculpture, and works on paper of all periods from antiquity to contemporary, as well as - for the first time this yearrare books, maps and manuscripts.

Important and broad-ranging gallery exhibitions are staged across central London, in particular in St. James’s, Mayfair, Pimlico, Kensington and Chelsea. Encompassing the Classic and Old Master live viewings and auctions at Bonhams, Christie’s and Sotheby’s, LAW will once again collaborate with Cromwell Place, the arts hub opposite the Victoria & Albert Museum. Here, several major exhibitions are being staged by participants alongside a LAW Showcase in the famous Lavery Studio.

Highlights of the week include an exhibition of The Stories behind the Sitters: Portraits spanning Five Centuries by Moretti Fine Art, where one of the showcased pieces is a beautiful portrait of Anne, Viscountess Pollington, later the Countess of Mexborough with her son, by Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830).

Bonhams are presenting a painting by a follower of Marinus van Reymerswaele (circa 1490 - circa 1567). The 16th Century oil on panel depicts a satirical commentary of lawyers. While Trinity Fine Art is showing a genre painting which has now been attributed to Pietro Longhi (1701-1785) and been given a new title: Portrait of Edward Wortley Montagu & his son Massoud Fortunatus. What makes this painting particularly fascinating are its subjects - Edward Wortley Montagu, one of the most colourful figures in 18th-Century Europe, and his son, born in 1762, whom he fathered with an Egyptian woman.

Elsewhere Connaught Brown will present a comparative show

of paintings, drawings and prints by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissarro, two of art history’s most consequential artists. This exhibition will bring together these titans of European art and contrast the way in which they approached that most joyous of all movements, Impressionism.

Finally, Peter Harrington Rare Books mark the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare’s first folio with an exhibition of the Bard’s most famous creations as well as early works that influenced him and those that inspired his literary legacy.

The London Art Week map, in print and online, is illustrated by Adam Dant and pinpoints every venue, while digital catalogue will also be available to all via a QR code.

ARIUS BRINGING ART TO LIFE

The art world is changing, and changing in a big way. This isn’t just another NFT or alternative virtual offering, but one that is a physical, tangible technology to support artists and collectors alike.

Taking an exciting new leap in art reproduction, conservation and creation, revolutionary company Arius are bringing their 3D digitisation-to-print solution to the global market. A pioneering technology that was first developed to support a forensic analysis on the Mona Lisa, this system sets a new standard in art technology.

Following the Mona Lisa undertaking, Arius worked with conservators at Tate and the National Gallery of Canada to achieve the replication of some of the world’s most loved art, including pieces by Van Gogh, Monet, Cézanne, Degas and Gauguin. This has only strengthened the company’s reputation, aided by their leading propriety technology and multiple avenues of expertise.

The incredible technology has a wide range of functions including; art replication, creation, visualisation and data analysis. A wealth of potential has been effectively harnessed to form three divisions: Arius, alta Creative Studio and Artiam. These divisions each offer unique opportunities with Arius working on high resolution replications for museums and collectors; alta Creative Studio collaborating with individual artists, and Artiam which is dedicated to art data analytics.

Arius’ ultra-high-resolution scanning technology has placed

them at the forefront of art industry innovation. Their data capture platform is composed of a 3D colour laser system, a museumgrade robotic handling system and a propriety data processing platform. This innovative digital platform partners perfectly with Canon’s leading Eiger elevated printing technology, enabling seamless replication. The laser scanner and robotic art handling system ensures highly precise data capture from a painting’s surface. Using low power laser beams also protects the condition of fragile artworks, demonstrating Arius’ focus on the preservation and appreciation of art.

There are clear benefits for the fine art market from this flawless scan-to-print process, as the sophistication of this software enables ultra-high-resolution replications, with unrivalled accuracy of geometry and colour. Catering to the diverse needs of museums, artist foundations and private collections alike, the process responds to an increasing desire to monetise art collections through derivative activities, such as lending for exhibitions or collateralisation, as well as opportunities for community outreach and education.

What this means for collectors is an entirely new way to enjoy your art without the risk involved with moving and using originals. You can now safely store and enjoy artworks in multiple locations with no perceptible difference in the piece itself. They also offer

ariustechnology.com

STALE AMSTERDAM

the chance to use their specialised Arivu Studio, which enables any scanned artwork to be viewed digitally in minute detail allowing you to see your art in a whole new way. Additionally, Artiam’s data analysis involves proof-of-concept trials to verify art and detect damage. This platform continually works on addressing the challenges of authentication, condition analysis and attribution that are prevalent in the art world. This means improved accessibility and transparency in valuation of art and art transactions, as well as the verifiable provenance of a work.

Another avenue which is facilitated by Arius’ technology is larger print runs for commercial clients. This more economical employment of their cutting-edge technology transfers highquality input data into the in-house Géomatique printer. This generates prints of historic and contemporary masterpieces for elevated impasto works and collage, increasing the quality and range of the art décor market.

Finally, the alta Creative Studio opens possibilities for artists to create an original Elegraph print series for collectors, galleries, and corporate clients. Unlike lithograph prints, Elegraph prints captures the artistic intent of impasto style paintings. This fills the market need for innovation in textured printmaking, especially for artists working in multi-media and struggling to meet consumer demand. No other print studio offers the level of technology available to alta, combining ultra-high-resolution scan data with sophisticated digital creation. Artists can work together with the alta Master Printmaker and Arius technology to translate their work into the digital sphere. Digital artists can insert their digital creative work directly into the Elegraph printmaking process. This process also allows for the creation of NFTs from physical works, marking the emergence of new forms of art and revolutionising the digital marketplace.

One such example is the striking Stale Amsterdam x alta “Salvador Dali” collection which is available now, featuring varied colour-ways derived from an incredible original creation.

TWEED de CHANEL

Inspiration has its landscapes. For Gabrielle Chanel, the gently rolling hills and valleys of Scotland, swept by wind and sun, filled with the murmur of natural springs and cloaked by night in velvety, star-studded blackness, were a whole new world.

These were the landscapes she discovered in the 1920s, during her love affair with the Duke of Westminster, when the life of the English aristocracy was opened up to her. Mademoiselle borrowed the Duke's tweed jackets and reinterpreted them in her collections. This warm, comfortable, woolly fabric, woven in countless different patterns by the Scots, was the softest armour to face the harshness of the Scottish climate.

Tweed owes its name to the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders. Gabrielle Chanel took it and made it her own, gifting

its comfort to her elegant and sporty female clients. From it, one of the most essential features in the Chanel style vocabulary was born.

In 2020, tweed entered the world of Chanel jewellery. The first collection comprised of 45 exceptional pieces dedicated entirely to this fabric, reproducing its suppleness and subtleties through the skilful use of articulations.

Now for 2023, 'Tweed de Chanel", a new high jewellery collection, has been inspired by the richness of the tweed weaves and transforming tweed into a precious fabric. Though this collection, Patrice Leguéreau, Director of the Chanel Fine Jewellery Creation Studio, opened up a new chapter in Chanel High Jewellery. chanel.com

15 YOUR JEWELLERY

Returning to the magic of tweed for a second time, with the audacious creation of 64 new High Jewellery pieces: Patrice Leguéreau dreamt of creating a tweed set with precious stones.

Intricately crafted, embroidered, fringed, laced with openwork, playing on the refinements of monochromy or polychromy, reproducing the weave of the fabric with an abundance of details, creating an entrancing impression of movement, tweed reappears in its essence: as generous as it is precious.

This collection unveils five new tweed jewellery weaves, in five different colours and adorned with five icons dear to Gabrielle Chanel: the white ribbon, the pink camellia, the comet on a blue background, the yellow sun and the lion highlighted with flashes of red.

In five precious chapters, plastrons, necklaces and sautoirs, bracelets, brooches, rings and earrings re-create the charms of tweed, with each symbol represented either delicately within the clasp or present in full power on the piece.

Settings have been re-imagined in order to display the full beauty of the gemstones, using minuscule hinges, rings and articulations in gold and platinum threads that create suppleness into the structure of each creation. Airy and textured, the weave of the tweed is fringed and lightened; graphic and symmetrical, it is structured and enriched to create a veritable fabric of jewels. The interweaving of the gold, pearls and precious stones, the variety in the sizes of the stones, and the play of the openwork together re-create the fleecy, textured thickness of tweed. Its comfort and softness, meanwhile, are echoed in the work carried out specifically on the back of each piece.

Highlights of the collection include the Tweed Perle - a supple tweed ribbon intertwined with loops and pearls that can be worn as a brooch or as a pendant on

a chain; and Tweed Camelia - an icon in Gabrielle Chanel's style, the geometrical perfection of the camellia flower is etched in rose gold embroideries set with powder-pink and fuchsia sapphires against a textured weave.

The centrepiece of the collection is the Tweed Royal necklace. Intricately crafted, the yellow gold chain is set with diamonds and 37 magnificent rubies. The lion's head at the centre can be worn as a brooch or as a necklace on the plastron, while the stunning 10.17 carats D FL Type IIa pear-cut diamond that adorns it can be detached to be worn as a ring.

LIGHT SHADOW

For its second rendezvous of the year, Diptyque continues its exploration of all the imaginary worlds conjured up by the candle with a summer collection, oriented toward the outdoors and clad in dazzling shades of yellow.

Issued in limited editions, showcasing the dancing shadows of light, these objects evoke the luminous solar aspect of the candle, its soothing radiance, and the playful illusions created by its flame in the dark.

Representing the change from the long summer days into the balmy, blissful nights, French designer Sam Baron, renowned for imbuing everyday objects with a touch of magic, imagined the “Rays” motif, evoking the graphic interplay of shadows and light through reeds or leaves, for the range of summer products. This magic is perfectly represented in the golden yellow hues he has used to decorate a set of coasters and the lampshade of the Maison’s iconic lantern. Handicraft - a key element in Diptyque creations - is another unifying thread in the collection. Each of the objects, made in France and Portugal, is a contribution to the vitality of European expertise, beckoning us to journey to the heart of this unmatched, intangible heritage.

In Puy-l’Évêque, in the Lot department (France), the traditional manufacturer Virebent continues to produce fine, artistic porcelain. Here, it has drawn on its expertise to conceive two water jugs and a tumbler, all realised in biscuit and enamelled porcelain. Situated in

Nevers and now managed by the fourth generation, the Faïencerie Georges pottery works - a further jewel in the crown of fine French craftsmanship - has created a pair of plates, one yellow and one white, decorated with a motif depicting a fork casting a long black shadow. The Medicis vase, designed in a sunny shade of yellow by Jean-Marc Gady, expands the colour palette of this collection of iconic objects. It was realised by another manufacturer, from Portugal this time: Manulena, a family business in Mira de Aire between Lisbon and Coimbra that has specialised in working in wax since 1968.

Atelier Vime, set up in Vallabrègues in the Gard department (France) by three aesthetically-minded friends, realised the openwork candle holder. It was specially designed to accommodate the vessels for the Maison’s 1.5 kg candles - a bespoke openwork receptacle for this legendary Diptyque object, affording glimpses of the master craftsmanship essential to the production of such candles.

Opening a window onto summer, playing with contrasts between shadow and light, this collection of limited series objects is an extension of Diptyque’s exploration of the imaginary worlds of the candle, initiated at the start of the year and to be continued this autumn. The third chapter will be more intimate, oriented towards indoors, with flame and smoke taking centre stage as the inspirational motifs.

MONOBALANCIER

TITANIUM

Roger Dubuis brings a new masterpiece into the world of watchmaking as it unveils the Excalibur Monobalancier (MB) Titanium, a remarkable blend of material mastery, expressive design, and horological expertise. Crafted from titanium Grade 5, the hyper-modern timepiece is a strikingly light variation of the iconic original Excalibur MB, boasting peak levels of comfort, aesthetics, and performance.

Showcasing its game-reinventing approach, Roger Dubuis has crafted its iconic Excalibur MB anew from titanium. 33% lighter than stainless steel and legendary for its strength-to-weight ratio, the space-age metal boasts many innate benefits: from its naturally soft and hypoallergenic nature, to its high anti-corrosion and antimagnetic properties.

Skin-friendly, comfortable, and durable, titanium is the finest choice for connoisseurs searching for a timepiece fit for modern living.

Roger Dubuis’ watchmakers continue to perfect the art of technical material mastery, crafting the bezel and the case in the Maison’s complex and expressive signature shape despite the challenges brought by working with a soft metal like titanium Grade 5. To ensure that the timepiece is just as expressive at night as during the day, SuperLuminova® is applied on the hour markers, the tips of the hands, and the logos.

To achieve a fully metallic look, the completely skeletonised timepiece’s bracelet is also crafted with titanium. Utilising expertly shortened links, this subtle articulation rework has a big impact, with better adhesion to the wrist. An evolution that entirely enhances the way the bracelet rests and moves when worn would not be complete without the signature quick release system, ensuring both comfort and versatility for the owner wherever they choose to wear it.

Modern and edgy, the Excalibur MB Titanium is adorned with a premium matte metallic sheen that is complemented by shiny polished bevels on the bracelet. Creating this crisp contrast showcases the continued technical prowess of the watchmakers, overcoming the challenges coming from titanium.

Attention to detail is pushed further still with the case’s central lug featured on the bracelet links demonstrating even more harmonious aesthetics. Finally, the advanced mechanics of the diamond-coated silicon escapement wheel paired with diamondcoated silicon pallet-stones ensure an impressive 72 hours of power reserve, bringing even more practicality and comfort to the wearer. Hallmarked with the Poinçon de Genève, each element of the timepiece is meticulously hand-finished with the utmost care. Exceptionally light and comfortable, it perfectly adapts to the most demanding lifestyles.

SELFWINDING CHRONOGRAPH

Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet has launched its new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph. The striking black ceramic model pays homage to the Royal Oak Offshore “End of Days” (ref. 25770SN) released in 1999 in collaboration with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which started the trend for multiple partnerships with celebrities.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the collection, this new contemporary model presents a black aesthetic punctuated by yellow details. Limited to 500 pieces, this timepiece pays tribute to the collection that has been pushing the limits for 30 years.

When launched in 1993 at the Basel Fair, the Royal Oak Offshore made quite an impression with its massive proportions (42 mm in diameter and 14.04 mm thick) and bold design. It was not until a few years later, however, that its success would really take off. The Royal Oak Offshore quickly made connections with different fields far removed from Haute Horlogerie, such as the worlds of sport, music and entertainment. Arnold Schwarzenegger was entrusted with the first special edition of the collection which was released in 1999 for his film End of Days. It was an immediate success, projecting the Offshore collection into the limelight and launching a tradition of special editions.

This new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph model is presented in a 43mm case, which is in line with the models introduced in 2020. Made entirely of black ceramic with the addition of titanium details, such as the studs, push-pieces and case back, there are also eight steel screws that attach the octagonal bezel to the case. The choice of these materials gives the watch a light and ergonomic feel despite its generous proportions (the total weight is only 103 grammes).

The ceramic - an extremely hard but not very malleable material - used by Audemars Piguet has been meticulously finished to reveal its many nuances and to match the complex lines of the Royal Oak Offshore case, while meeting the Manufacture’s high-quality standards.

Ceramic is partly made of zirconium oxide powder combined with a specific binder and its homogeneous colour only appears

once the material is fired at a temperature exceeding 1000oC. Each component is then pre-polished and pre-satin-finished. Lines, angles and bevels are painstakingly hand-finished to achieve the Manufacture’s signature alternating polished and satin surfaces.

As a nod to the black and yellow aesthetic of the original 1999 model, the new Offshore features a black dial decorated with the new-generation Mega Tapisserie pattern and is illuminated with touches of yellow on the tachymeter scale, as well as on the hour markers and the blackened white gold hands enhanced with yellow luminescent coating.

This new model comes with a black calfskin strap featuring a textile effect and yellow stitching, and thanks to the watch’s integrated interchangeable system, the owner can easily change his or her strap for a yellow calfskin version with black stitching.

This new reference is powered by the Manufacture’s latest selfwinding chronograph movement, Calibre 4401, which is fully integrated with a column wheel and flyback function. This function allows the chronograph to be reset and restarted with a single press of the push-piece –a patented process that allows the chronograph counter hands to instantaneously return to the vertical position. The column wheel works in conjunction with the vertical clutch and when started or stopped, the seconds hand responds immediately, without jerking. Additionally, gentle pressure is enough to activate the push-pieces, further enhancing the ergonomics of the timepiece.

The oscillating weight is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. Crafted in 22-carat pink gold, it has been coloured by NAC process to give it an anthracite grey hue. The sapphire case back also reveals the movement’s refined decorations, including Côtes de Genève, circular graining, sunray finishing, circular satin finishing and polished bevels.

Today, the new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph marks a return to the roots and a contemporary tribute to the history of the collection.

ORION NEOMATIK

Polished to a gleam, silver-plated, elegantly domed, with faceted golden indices and tempered blue hands: Nomos Glashütte presents Orion neomatik.

The stunning three new watches are each limited to 175 pieces: Orion neomatik, Orion neomatik 39 and Orion neomatik 41 date. All three have role models: historic watches once made by master Glashütte horologists.

The Nomos model on which the three new watches are based - the classic Orion - has garnered a certain amount of fame as an archetypical watch. Appearing with a new look and adjusted in six positions to chronometer values, the three new members of this family celebrate the history of this watchmaking town, and for the first time ever, the small seconds dial has not been recessed into the dial, lending the watch further elegance.

As part of their highly respected training, students at the Glashütte school of watchmaking made timepieces which were anything but “practice watches.” They were, in fact, timepieces crafted to demonstrate the full breadth and depth of their skill. These watches were housed in cases made of silver rather than the usual gold. Watches bearing indices instead of numerals. Watches of the very finest caliber.

The Nomos special series Orion neomatik - 175 Years

Watchmaking Glashütte with new watches in 36, 39 and 41 millimeters (one with a date display, two without) houses automatic Nomos calibers, all of which are signed and numbered at the workshop, celebrating all the Glashütte features, including a threequarter plate, Glashütte ribbing and tempered blue screws. Even DUW 6101, the movement featuring a date mechanism, which ticks away inside the Orion neomatik 41 date - the largest of the three watches - is extremely sleek. Always comprised of three parts, the stainless steel case (with a domed sapphire crystal front and back featuring an anti-reflective coating on both sides), the tempered blue hands above the domed, polished, galvanized and white silver-plated dial (with indices embossed in gold) and the crown engraved with the Nomos logo round out these beautiful watches.

With a vertical integration that far exceeds legal requirements, they not only satisfy the so called Glashütte Regulation, they surpass it with ease. And so it is that Orion neomatik, Orion neomatik 39 and Orion neomatik 41 date, along with all their visible and hidden merits, combine traditional artisanry with modern technology - both on the wrist and as an investment.

Following the success of an initial limited anniversary edition in rose gold unveiled at Geneva’s Watches and Wonders show, Frederique Constant is now offering collectors two all-new variations of its Manufacture Tourbillon in a 39-millimetre steel case with a blue or silver-coloured dial. The contemporary look is a perfect complement to the classic design - and sits wonderfully alongside the original rose gold version. Each of the two timepieces will be available in a limited edition of 350, with the visible tourbillon at 6 o’clock revealing all the Genevabased firm’s watchmaking knowhow.

Not only is 2023 Frederique Constant’s 35th anniversary, it’s also the fifteenth anniversary of the brand’s first Manufacture tourbillon movement, released in 2008. Celebrating two anniversaries calls for two creations, so after a first rose gold version (of which just 150 were made) presented at the Geneva Watches and Wonders show which ran from 27 March to 2 April, Frederique Constant is continuing its 35th anniversary celebrations with two new editions of its Classic Tourbillon Manufacture in steel, with 350 of each version being made.

These two new variations are a further embodiment of Frederique Constant’s original recipe for success: providing Swiss Made luxury watches at affordable prices. The steel version of the Classic Tourbillon Manufacture is one of the most attractive offerings on the market right now when it comes to presenting a watchmaking complication in a classic design.

The two pieces are available in blue and silver, giving them a highly contemporary aspect. The first features a sun-brushed midnight blue dial in a fully-polished steel case mounted on a matte blue alligator strap. While the second strikes a different tone with a sun-brushed silver-coloured dial atop the same strap. The individual number of each piece is marked on the tourbillon cage and engraved on the caseback, through which discerning collectors can admire the finishings on the FC-980Manufacture movement - bevelling, beading, circular graining, straight-grained flanks and mirror polishing, all applied in the finest

Swiss tradition.

The two models share the same DNA, paying tribute to the noblest of watchmaking traditions - not least in their restrained diameter of 39 millimetres. This size has long been the collectors’ favourite, especially for classic Fine Watchmaking timepieces such as tourbillons. It’s also a very contemporary diameter, perfect on both men’s and women’s wrists, to which the Manufacture has returned after previously using a diameter of 42millimetres for the model.

Minimalist, contemporary decoration has been adopted for the dial and its slim hour markers, they are diamond cut and applied by hand. The same technique has been used for the hands, resulting in a hand polished finish. Below the brand’s understated ‘Frederique Constant - Genève’ signature at 12 o’clock, an opening at 6 o’clock reveals the exquisite highlight of the timepiece: the tourbillon.

First devised in the late eighteenth century and patented in 1801, the tourbillon is designed to offset the effects of gravity on the watch movement by keeping the escapement in constant motion to preserve an ideal running rate. This meticulous procedure keeps timepieces more accurate; the accuracy of the Classic Tourbillon Manufacture is guaranteed for thirty-eight hours.

Frederique Constant has not simply copied a 220-year-old complication, though. Fifteen years ago, the Manufacture added a silicon escapement wheel and anchor. As a result, owners benefit from a movement that is more resistant to the adverse effects of magnetism and temperature variations - and thus even more precise, true to the tourbillon’s original vocation.

For the finishing touch in terms of precision, a central seconds hand complete with a stop seconds function glides over the tourbillon. The complication itself is visible through a window at 6 o’clock that offers an unparalleled and exhaustive view of the sophisticated escapementwith an additional perspective on its inner workings available from the reverse of the watch through a sapphire crystal.

Tsuyosa

Citizen bring the NJ015 automatic series to the UK in seriously colourful style.

Citizen is bringing the highly anticipated and acclaimed NJ015 automatic series to the market, giving consumers another reason to adorn their wrists with a new watch.

Fusing a vintage inspired modern design, eye-catching hues and automatic movement, the collection, which enthusiasts have affectionately named “Tsuyosa”, which in Japanese means strength, will make its UK debut from early June.

Defining a new footprint in mechanical timekeeping, the series delivers on style, function and design. Making a statement with its accessible trend sport style and authentic timekeeping featuring Citizen’s automatic movement, Cal.8210, the collection offers an accessible gateway into the brand’s portfolio of mechanical watches.

Each timepiece features a modern integrated style stainless steel case and bracelet. The case is chamfered and finished with brushing and polishing. The crown set on the 4 o’clock position provides a slimmer appearance to the watch. Each link of the bracelet is curved to create a mountain-like shape, lending a classical feel to the watch. The centre links of the bracelet and the bezel are polished for a more luxurious look.

Offered in five eye-catching colourways - blue, yellow, green, turquoise and black - each dial bears a subtle sunray pattern. Simple batonstyle indices are carefully applied to the twelve position. The magnified lens over the date window at 3 o’clock is a unique standout feature of the watch. Attention to detail is paramount in each piece, but when blended together, the watch exudes a style that is as classic as it is modern.

Equipped with the Cal.8210 in-house manufactured automatic movement, 21 jewels, 21,600 vph with the movement visible from the case-back, each watch offers approximately 40 hours of power reserve, packing in the power at no cost to the environment due to never needing a battery.

Providing watch wearers with greater selections in mechanical movements, the five new timepieces define a new statement in style that elevates one’s wrist-fit.

The Basic Date with it’s sharp, solid, yet elegant design synonymous with Orient Star, combines a threehand time display with power reserve indicator and date window. Fine details including a mirror-polished slope and fluid lines extending from the sides of the new larger 42mm case to the lugs, have been shaped to pass easily through the wearer’s sleeve. The three-link solid stainless-steel strap extending from the case enhances the Basic Date’s overall sporty feel.

Typical of Orient Star timepieces is the rich assortment of deep dial colours, from sharp black to blue, white, grey, and green. The dial is designed for clear readability, even at the quickest of glances, thanks to the combination of long hands, a large case, and bold bar indices. Adding to the watch's no fuss deign is the design of the power reserve indicator, which further enhances the watch's simplicity and readability.

Finally, the Basic Date uses SUS316 stainless steel for the strap, scratch-resistant sapphire for the crystal, and is powered by a high-performance, in-house movement with automatic winding mechanism.

MESOSCULPT C71

SKIN CLINIC

Dr. Aamer Khan, co-founder of The Harley Street Skin Clinic and well-known celebrity doctor has recently launched ABG Lab’s innovative quad of mesotherapy treatments into the UK. Based in the US, ABG Lab is a pharmaceutical company with a strong focus on revolutionary skincare technology and aesthetic medicine. It has elevated mesotherapy, the minimally invasive injection treatment, to pioneering new levels by developing a range of intradermal injectables for the cellular renewal of skin and aesthetic facial re-modelling. Its mission is to first and foremost develop safe and optimal mesotherapy injections and anti-ageing skincare technologies with exclusive propriety formulations

and intradermal aesthetic injections. Intradermal injections are administered into the dermis just below the epidermis which is the upper layer of the skin. The four treatments available have been designed to target mature stem cells.

Dr Khan is the Clinical Director and Managing Director of The Harley Street Skin Clinic and is an expert in both cosmetic and non-surgical procedures. He has made a name for himself (amongst a wide variety of other things) in cosmetic injectables and alongside his wife and co-founder of the clinic, Lesley Reynolds, the team of specialists at Harley Street are dedicated to developing a cosmetic treatment which is tailored to each patient’s exact needs.

The Harley Street Skin Clinic, 48 Harley Street, London W1G 9PU
HARLEY STREET
HARLEY STREET SKIN CLINIC

Offering an expansive range of both surgical and non-surgical treatments, Harley Street Skin are renowned worldwide for their cosmetic precision, expertise and minimally invasive techniques.

Regenerative Medicine in aesthetic procedures is the next big growth area in skincare treatment and has been at the heart of The Harley Street Skin Clinic’s practice since 2006. Dr Khan has studied and practised this subject extensively and he was honoured and proud to announce that ABG Lab had launched this innovative concept to the injectable arena. The result of years of groundbreaking research and development which has culminated in injectables that specifically target and activate cellular regeneration of the skin. The treatments have been designed to target mature stem cells, activate replication and asymmetric division of the endogenous epidermal stem cells, reduce wrinkles and lines, decrease fat tissue mass, improve microcirculation, and regulate the skin’s metabolic processes. The multi-faceted portfolio can provide a safe and effective treatment that can reduce the signs of aging and promote self-repair of the skin. “

Included in the four available treatments is the MesoSculpt C71 which is an innovative, injectable facial cosmetic that shrinks facial fat deposits in the chin, jawline, and cheeks. Containing three components which, when administered, modifies targeted fat cells to switch from localised fat-storing to fat-dissolving without causing any cellular trauma. Known as lipolysis, this improves the microcirculation and lymphatic drainage and reduces inflammation. The skin is stimulated into re-modelling and sculpting and shrinking unwanted fat as well as lifting and tightening to restore a more youthful facial contour and the classic facial triangle of beauty.

MesoEye C71 focuses on the eye area, by effectively treating eye bags and under eye puffiness, dark circles and deep crows’ feet wrinkles.

Among ABG LAB’s most successful mesotherapy technologies is its flagship Meso-Wharton P199, the only Stem Cell Active

Wharton Jelly peptide to reverse skin aging and restore health to damaged skin. Meso-Wharton P199 has demonstrated outstanding clinical results in over one million patients worldwide since its introduction in 2010 and provides the fundamental basis for skin renewal. It targets and stimulates the skin’s endogenous stem cells and provides the fundamental basis for skin renewal.

Building on Meso-Wharton P199 success, ABG Lab two years later introduced the first epigenetic meso injection treatment MesoXanthin F199. Meso-Xanthin F199 provides what amounts to a cellular rejuvenation tonic for fibroblasts and epidermal skin cells. It keeps the cells young, healthy and operating at peak efficiency. Meso-Xanthin F199 is an innovative therapy that targets the genes which are responsible for the proteins involved in skin regeneration and reverses skin cell aging and protects against premature skin cell death by protecting vital intracellular defences against the damaging effects of sun and chronological aging. Damaged DNA cells are restored and the quality of life of the skin cells is improved making them more durable.

Overall, what makes these treatments so special is that this is the first Mesotherapy treatment to use cosmetic peptides to bestow a flawless complexion by renewing skin stem cells and the first and only treatment to harness Meso-Wharton P199 analogue of embryonic peptide which acts as a signal factor to the stem cells of the skin offering deep tissue repair at a cellular level. It is also the first epigenetic mesotherapy to keep skin cells healthy, thriving and living longer and the first facial re-modelling technology to shrink unwanted fat and sculpt a youthful facial contour.

Dr Khan is very excited to be able to offer all these products, especially as they are backed by credible studies and they provide a science-based, non-surgical solution for his patients, including older patients, in whom non-surgical treatments were previously less effective.

Cost from £350 - £750 per session with 3-6 recommended per treatment and then an 8-week follow-up.

your travel HOME FROM HOME

An exclusive and classically luxurious hidden gem in the heart of London's South Kensington. The Adria delivers a welcoming home from home experience in serious style. Comforting colour palettes, chic styling throughout and an atmosphere more akin to your home than a hotel, this is the perfect escape.

Pride of Place

One of Cornwall's most recognisable hotels, Pride of Britain Hotel's The Headland is a destination with many facets. A sanctuary thanks to its 5 star facilities, Aqua Club and five-bubblerated spa amenities, the wild rugged location of this magnificent building overlooks one of the most iconic surfing sites of the UK - Fistral Beach.

Oozing old world charm and glamour of eras gone by, The Headland Hotel has an illustrious past. The Headland's architect, Silvanus Travail, had a grand vision. He wanted Cornwall to rival the South Coast resorts. And to do it, he planned to create a seminal Victorian masterpiece.

After local fisherman initially pushed back against the build, the building was finally finished in 1898. In the early 1900s, King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra were the first royals to stay here. The former Prince of Wales, now HRH King Charles III, and Queen Consort have also enjoyed several visits over recent years.

The Headland can also be recognised from the many TV shows and movies that have been filmed there. The most famous of all is the 1987 production of Roald Dahl’s The Witches starring Angelica Houston.

In 1979, John and Carolyn Armstrong bought the hotel. Still the current owners today, when they arrived, they took on the

unenviable task of bringing it back from the brink. There were serious structural, decorative and business issues to address and they began the ultimate labour of love project that would take many years. They stopped at nothing to reinvent The Headland as it is now known today - a modern luxury hotel with a difference.

Four decades and £30 million of improvements and repairs have turned The Headland from a wreck to a multi-awardwinning destination hotel, complete with 91 luxurious bedrooms and suites, a state of the art-gym, a five-bubble-rated spa, a sixpool Aqua Club, and three restaurants boasting some of the best sea views in Cornwall.

Rooms are wide and varied, each immaculately decorated with elegant touches, Molton Brown toiletries, and fantastic viewswhether coastal or back towards the countryside. Calming colour palettes, reflective of the location, mingle with bursts of vibrant colour furnishings. From rooms to suites, there is something for all tastes and budgets and if you are looking for something slightly bigger, then you can head over to the colourful cottages.

Perfect for families and couples alike, offering that added space, the new Aqua cottages not only boast an ensuite four poster master bedroom and second twin bedroom, but there is also an outdoor decking and enclosed grassy area complete with your own hot tub for four.

Next door to the cottages and three years and £10m in the making, The Aqua Club at The Headland is a no-luxury-spared swimming and wellbeing complex. Separate to the main building boasting sea views and open air pools, the building has been designed by Truro architects, Lilly Lewarne, the pools by Aqua Platinum, and with interiors by Dynargh Design.

The perfect place to unwind, the striking Cornish stonework celebrates the iconic landmark location on the edge of the Atlantic and provides a great setting to enjoy a cocktail or two while enjoying the views from the Vitality pool or Sunset Spa.

Available for adults only between 8am - 9am throughout the year and additionally, between 8pm - 9pm in the summer, there are a number of packages available and the club is open to hotel residents. The onsite restaurant The Deck, serves up a Mediterranean

inspired menu with a Cornish twist. Enjoy a range of flatbreads, charcuterie, pizza, and even Cornish mackerel fillets, Cornish chicken cacciatore, or wild mushroom risotto.

Back in the main building, and on the lower floor, is the award winning Headland Spa. Offering a variety of treatments including the truly indulgent Headland Couture Touch signature treatment which will take you through a dedicated, individually designed treatment to suit your skin and needs. This 55 minute treatment will send you into another dimension of relaxation before continuing your tranquil journey in the peaceful relaxation room.

Round off your relaxing time with a lavish afternoon tea overlooking the Atlantic or a cocktail outside on the Terrace.

Following a peaceful sleep, breakfast in the Terrace not only offers wonderful views but a great opportunity to tuck into a full Cornish or pancakes with maple syrup and crispy bacon. Lighter options are available, alongside fresh juices, pastries and fruit.

Possibly the most inviting part of The Headland Hotel is that despite it's luxurious appointment, it is very much dog friendly, allowing you to take your four legged friend along for your Cornwall adventure. Access across the hotel and cottages is available for your furry companion with just the spa and restaurants - with the exception of The Terrace - off limits meaning you can truly enjoy your stay with your dog by your side.

The hotel will even provide you with blankets, dog treats, poo bags and a water bowl to make your pooch's stay as comfortable and indulgent as yours!

Highly recommended and a must try is the Chef’s Selection which is a sharing menu that comes with two starters; the legendary, fermented wood fired potato bread with truffle honey and chickpea miso butter as well as black chickpea hummus with British foraged mushrooms and herb tatbila. Mezze is next and is served as four sharing plates of grilled octopus with spiced langoustine and chickpea ragu; charcoal roasted aubergine with macadamia dukkah and smoked mint tahini to name just a couple.

There is a choice of one of two mains; charcoal brick pressed, corn fed chicken with creamy aubergine and mum’s bread sauce or charcoal butterflied sea bass with roe and cucumber salsa and lemon tahini. Sides of Seurat lettuce and mint dressing and Agria potato rosti aioli and smoked salt come with it. If you still have room, Jeru has a selection of its favourite desserts.

Sparking a sense of theatre throughout the room, guests of the Chef’s Counter will have a front row seat to the chefs in action.

INGREDIENTS

700g Centre Beef Fillet

(ask your butcher to prep it for you)

1kg Button Mushrooms for Duxelle

English Mustard

Rolled Puff Pastry

200g Sliced Bresaola or Parma Ham

2 Pancakes

Most important thing with making a beef wellington is being organised and giving yourself enough time. Make the wellington the day before you plan to serve it. On the day of eating, you just want to place it in the oven and enjoy a glass of wine!

For the duxelle, take your time and finely chop your mushrooms really well.

Place a frying pan on a medium heat, add a touch of oil and your mushrooms with a good pinch of salt. Keep cooking for 30 - 40 minutes until any liquid has completely gone. Removed from the pan and place into the fridge.

Place a frying pan on a high heat with oil until its smoking, season the beef fillet really well with salt and pepper. Add in

the beef and colour on each size for no longer then 10 seconds. Remove and place into the fridge to stop the cooking. Once cool, brush with English mustard.

Next, the plan is to lay everything out neatly and long enough to cover the whole beef fillet when we roll it.

Firstly, lay out a big sheet of cling film on your workbench. Place the pancakes on top of the cling film just over lapping. Lay out the ham on top, then lay out the duxelle on top of that.

Place the beef fillet on top and using the cling film to start to roll it over, making sure not to get cling film inside the beef. Roll really tightly with loads of cling film to make it super tight. Leave this in your fridge for a few hours to set.

Lay out the puff pastry. Remove the cling film from the beef fillet, taking extra care to avoid cutting the pancakes. Place the beef onto the pastry and egg wash around the fillet. Roll the pastry around the beef and trim the excess, keeping it tight with no air bubbles.

Egg wash the top of the pastry and place on baking paper and straight onto a tray back into the fridge.

Pre-heat your oven to 200c, place the wellington into the oven for 40-45 minutes for medium rare, depending on the size of your beef fillet. Once cooked to your liking, it’s very important to rest the wellington for minimum of 30 minutes on a wire cooling rack. If you don’t rest on a rack you will get a soggy bottom!

Enjoy, it’s worth the hard work!

Having recently opened in the heart of the City of London in bustling Broadgate Circle, Shiro, which offers a contemporary Japanese dining experience, is the Aqua Restaurant Group’s fifth restaurant in the capital and this recently redeveloped two-floor establishment features a sushi counter, a robata counter and an outdoor terrace. The London opening follows on from Shiro’s success in Hong Kong where it gained immense popularity and made a name for itself with its much – loved Crystal Sushi. Inspired by the buzzing dining culture of Tokyo’s Ginza, Shiro offers unique dishes brought to London from its home in Hong Kong.

Featuring sophisticated white interiors, the restaurant offers a clean and inviting space reflective of Shiro’s ‘white’ namesake in Japanese. Heavily inspired by both the Japanese appreciation of nature and the precision of craft, a neutral colour palette with wasabi-inspired sage green hues has been paired with precision lighting and varying textures within a monochromatic scheme.

Invented by Shiro over half a decade ago, Crystal Sushi is a signature item which features layers of elegantly infused jelly, delicately laid on top of each sushi piece. Intensely flavoured with the correct balance of mirin, sake and soy, Crystal Sushi has been lovingly prepared to enjoy in one bite - with no need to dip. Unusual flavour combinations have been thoughtfully chosen to enhance the ingredients, including scallop and caviar with kimchi; botan ebi and avocado with rose; and salmon with mint and sake.

Hero dishes such as Edomae Sushi are served instead of the more common nigiri sushi. Originating in Edo (now known as Tokyo), this style of sushi involves carefully sourced seafood being cut longer to drape on top of the rice almost touching the plate. Shiro is one of the few restaurants in the UK where you can experience true Edomae style sushi such as akami tuna, seabass, and aburi (charcoal seared) salmon, to name a few.

Shiro also offers dishes steeped in tradition, including Ramen available on the à la carte and lunch menu. The chicken and pork ramen have a special place in Shiro’s Executive Chef Iwahashi’s heart; at eight years old he started learning the family’s ramen recipe in his father’s tiny but always crowded restaurant. That

sushi

recipe is a base for the ramen on the menu today, simmered for 48 hours to produce the perfect combination of texture and rich flavours.

Head Chef Ken Miyake says: “We’re delighted to bring Shiro to London’s financial district. Offering traditional Japanese dishes with an innovative twist, there will be something for everyone; from those seeking contemporary Japanese dining, a quick and delicious business lunch, or after work cocktails”.

Since opening its first London restaurant 22 years ago, Aqua Restaurant Group continue to be pioneers in the Japanese food scene both in the capital and across the globe, with Shiro set to be a glorious addition to the portfolio.

Summer Season Pairings

To find out more about Champagne visit champagne.fr or enrol at champagne-mooc.com COMITÉ CHAMPAGNE CHAMPAGNE

There’s nothing better than an English summer; a mix of tennis, polo, rowing, cricket and of course, Champagne! With its impressive diversity, Champagne is an incredibly versatile pairing to enhance all your summer favourites. As such, the Bureau du Champagne UK* are here to guide you on how to find the perfect Champagne to make this summer a memorable one.

Strawberries & Cream at the Tennis

Vibrantly coloured and elegant, with lively fruity aromas could be seen to describe both strawberries and Rosé Champagne. As such, the British summer classic of strawberries and cream - originally introduced by Thomas Wolsey (the right-hand man to King Henry VIII) and now a staple of the Wimbledon Championships since its establishment in 1877 - is the perfect Rosé pairing. Rosé Champagne is most often obtained by blending white and red grapes. This gives it a flamboyant joyfulness and aromas around notes of freshness (citrus fruits and wild strawberries) or complex wild berry fruit notes.

Charcuterie Board

Arguably a summer essential - a charcuterie board will match the more powerful flavours and balanced acidity of a Blanc de Noirs (this Champagne style is also excellent at cutting through the fattiness of the meat and cheese). Produced entirely from black grape varieties such as Pinot Noir or Meunier, Blanc de Noirs generally have more body than wines that include white grape varieties in their blend. As such, these Champagnes give the

impression of power, density and structure and have what is known as “vinosity” - the sensation of heat on the palate.

Oysters and Umami

Made entirely from white grapes, Blanc de Blancs are bright, refreshing and lively wines that are all about finesse. With notes of white flowers, citrus and exotic fruits, Blanc de Blancs, which are light to taste, do not overpower the delicate flavours of oysters. This much-loved, classic pairing is particularly successful due to the umami flavours that can be found in both oysters and Champagne. The levels of umami in Champagne are not evident on their own, but when consumed with oysters a ‘umami synergy’ occurs - making the pairing particularly enticing.

Barbecue - A Sizzling Match!

Non-vintage brut - a Champagne that contains less than 12 grams of sugar per litre - is characteristically an essential classic that pairs beautifully with any course. As such, a non-vintage Champagne Brut and barbecue pairing is sure to be sizzling match! This style has an endless array of aromas and flavours and each grape variety brings its own touch. From a lively Chardonnay with notes of citrus and white flowers to Meunier’s roundness and fruity notes of apple and pear, whatever grilled meats and seafood you choose to put on your barbecue will be an excellent combination.

ROMA

Ferrari's beautifully crafted coupé

Renowned the world over for delivering some of the most incredible machines to grace both road and race scenes, Ferrari are not short of ideas when it comes to automotive design.

The Roma coupé from the Maranello stable brings a unique V8 GT to the table continuing a rich heritage of mid-frontengined machines and it achieves it in serious style. One of the most attractive cars to come from the marque in modern times, it's slender profile and distinctive design cues create an undeniably head-turning aesthetic, but it's not just about appearances.

Underneath its beautiful bodywork, the Roma shares some of its architecture with the folding-hardtop Portofino, but largely boasts a host of technological advancements compared to its convertible counterpart.

One such update is the notable new powertrain which continues the turbocharged V8 engine story, pairs it in a unique way with an 8-speed transmission, integrates a five-position manettino for the first time in a Ferrari GT, and adds a best-inclass power-to-weight ratio. All of which combines to create the most powerful mid-front-engined V8 2+ ever from the Italian superpower.

The 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine brings new innovations to the awarded unit found in the Portofino including new cam profiles, a speed sensor which measures the turbine revolutions and allows for an increase to the maximum revs per minute of 5,000rpm, and the introduction of the Gasoline Particulate Filter to comply with the latest, strict anti-pollution standards. This GPF has been specifically engineered to avoid compromising the performance of the car and ensure it very much remains a Ferrari.

A staggering 620PS and 760Nm of torque should go some way to supporting that thought while an equally new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission which is based on the dual-clutch oil bath architecture derived from the SF90 Stradale gearbox helps to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while offering faster and smoother gear shifts making for an even more responsive drive on the open road, but also a surprisingly comfortable ride in town and during stop & start driving.

The transmission features longer gear ratios in the higher gears, which helps to keep fuel consumption and emissions down, while a steeper torque curve through the rev range in the lower gears is adopted for a feeling of smooth, consistent pick-up adding to the dynamism off the line and throughout acceleration.

All of that amounts to nothing if you can't get all of the power on to the tarmac. Fortunately, Roma comes complete with vast amounts of rubber meaning you will be able to propel yourself from zero to sixty-two in just 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 199mph. Thanks to its low centre of gravity and wide stance, along with an aerodynamically designed underbody complete with vortex generators in the floor, Roma produces an impressive amount of downforce without compromising that stunning, sleek, 'wingless' appearance to provide a stable ride at speed and through corners.

There is of course a mobile rear spoiler integrated into the rear screen which is designed to retain the car’s formal elegance when retracted and guarantee the downforce essential for the car’s extraordinary performance at high speeds. This situationally aware device will deploy and retract in accordance to the vehicles driving state without the need for any external interaction.

As with every other turbocharged Ferrari in the range, Roma delivers an almost instantaneous throttle response thanks to numerous innovations in the turbocharger design and construction which optimise pressure waves in the turbine maximising power while reducing losses. In line with this latest engine technology, Variable Boost Management software has been developed by Ferrari that adjusts the torque delivery to suit the selected gear, delivering increasingly powerful pick-up as revs rise, whilst optimising fuel consumption.

Enjoying Roma's powertrain isn't just reserved to the feel on the road, a typically unique Ferrari soundtrack joins you on your journey thanks to a complete redesign of the entire exhaust with the removal of the two rear silencers, a new by-pass valve geometry - machined to an oval shape improving sound quality - and a proportional continuous and progressive by-pass valve control which adapts to the driving situation.

Adding to the experience while moving, the exhaust note is a vibrant symphony of power, however this exhaust noise can become a little grating when stuck in traffic or other slow moving situations for extended periods of time. The simple answer is to ensure you find the empty roads to make the most of both the exhaust noise and the performance.

Roma features a host of technologies to support its performance, with development of the car focused not only on speed and power, but also in ride and comfort. A considerably lower vehicle weight over the Portofino thanks to a list of entirely new components that make up 70% of the car is the biggest of dynamic improvements which is only enhanced by the Side Slip Control 6.0 concept.

Incorporating an algorithm that delivers a precise estimate of sideslip to the on-board control systems, the SSC 6.0 integrates systems such as the E-Diff, F1-Trac, SCM-E Frs and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, the latter debuting solely in the 'Race' position on the Ferrari Roma. The Dynamic Enhancer sits alongside the traditional ESC, but is a lateral dynamic control system which gently adjust brake pressure on specific wheels to support sideslip situations.

The new 5-position manettino for this GT - Wet, Comfort, Sport, Race, ESC-Off - is offered to make the Roma’s handling and grip more accessible which will undoubtedly make your driving experience more entertaining regardless of the road condition.

Other technologies that have been introduced include an optional adaptive cruise control; autonomous emergency braking; lane departure warning with traffic sign recognition; blind spot detection with rear cross traffic alert; and surround view camera,

bringing the Ferrari Roma in line with the growing list of safety features many have come to expect from their car.

The Ferrari Roma sets out to deliver a GT that is both performance and comfort oriented - which is no easy task - and thanks to some clever engineering and the use of a plethora of technologies both mechanical and electric, they have done an impressive job. The reduced weight over the Portofino has allowed for a softer rear suspension setup that has improved ride comfort without sacrificing any performance, and the comfort continues inside.

Don't expect to be taking more than one passenger anywhere anytime soon, as the 'plus' part of the 2+ is by no means substantial, however, that's not really what this car is about. For driver and front seat passenger, the comfort levels are such that soaking up the miles on longer journeys will be a pleasure rather than uncomfortable chore and equally, when driving around town, you won't find yourself wishing you were in something else. If you are heading off for a long weekend, there's surprisingly generous luggage space in the boot - along with those rear seats - to accommodate all of your bags, allowing you to pack up and go without worrying about how your luggage is going to get to your destination.

The exterior style follows through to the cabin, with flowing lines creating sleek capsules for both driver and passenger. A central touchscreen offers access to the on-board system with everything from climate control to sat-nav and car settings which is convenient, but not the most intuitive system, nor the best looking screen around. Equally, the highly functional steering wheel delivers a new haptic interface providing access to select features

while also delivering the 5-position manettino along with a host of other switchgear making for an all-in-one, hands on the wheel experience, but sacrifices aesthetics as a result with a very busy steering wheel.

There is no denying the luxurious quality delivered by Ferrari and the Roma. The second you sit in this car you will be instantly aware of the exclusive materials used and the quality of finish the Italian masters manage to achieve. Full-grain Frau® leather, Alcantara®, chromed aluminium and carbon-fibre adorn every inch resulting in a beautifully distinctive car with a design that is effortlessly timeless.

Holding the record as the worlds best selling car up until the late 1990's with over 21 million sales globally, the Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most iconic cars in the world and instantly recognisable across the planet.

Starting life back in 1938 - born from objectives devised by the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler - the original Beetle was designed to be a car for the people, delivering a cheap, simple vehicle that could be mass produced. This in large led to the car's success following a decline in materials and economies which were suffering as a result of the war.

It wasn't until 1948 that the first cabriolet version of the icon arrived thanks to Wilhelm Karmann converting a Beetle sedan which was presented to VW and soon put into production in 1949.

The soft top presented a number of structural issues meaning the cabriolet wasn't just a standard car with the roof taken off. Additional strengthening features were used across the car to ensure it maintained its structural integrity creating a whole new vehicle.

This striking example from 1975 is a rare right-hand drive Beetle Convertible presented in yellow coachwork with black interior and black soft top with strong 'Bumblebee' vibes.

It is a very bright car in good condition throughout, and also comes with a good service file showing expenditure at VW specialists Beetlelink for the value of circa £3,500.

A vibrant car that both looks and drives great, perfect to enjoy in the sunny weather to come.

Across the prime rental market, there have been significant levels of growth over the past three years. But, higher inflation and the cost of living have taken some of the heat out of the market.

Jessica Tomlinson, a research analyst at Savills details how the impact effects London’s distinct micro markets, from central locations in Mayfair and Kensington, to Hampstead in the North, Richmond in the South West, through to Ealing in the West and Canary Wharf in the East.

“Across the capital, tenant demand has remained strong compared to previous years, but the number of prospective renters registering with Savills in March 2023 was broadly level with the number of registrations last year and -10% below the same month in 2021.

As a result, average prime rents increased by 1.4% during the first three months of 2023 - which is a small increase on the growth seen in Q4 2022 (+0.7%), however this is significantly slower than the 2022 peak (3.5% in Q1 2022). When looking at the growth annually, this has slowed right across the capital to total +8.7% down from a peak of 13.8% in September of last year.

PRIME RENTAL GROWTH

Prime rental growth picks up following a slower end to 2022 but is expected to stabilise this year.

That being said, prices are slightly up on the quarter in all London regions except prime central London, where growth has dipped marginallysignalling a slowing down of significant rental growth for this market.

When it comes to the type of property and what is performing well, it is the smaller, lower-value properties that have had the strongest start to the year. This part of the market is largely driven by needs-based, domestic tenants, including young professionals and families and so this has placed more pressure and therefore more competition on the limited supply of properties at this level. In fact, rents for one or two bedroom properties are up +1.6% in Q1.

However, prices for those larger homes are also still rising (up +1.4% on the quarter) due to a lack of stock available on the market - particularly in the South West (1.8%), and North and East London (2.8%), where families typically gravitate towards.

The lack of stock is something that over half of Savills agents agree (59%) is constraining tenants choices, while a third (34%) say that tenants are expanding their search across multiple London locations.

With some landlords selling up, and tenants locking in for longer to secure existing rental prices, the market continues to suffer from a deficiency in stock. However two in five (43%) of London agents believe that stock will increase in the three months to June as tenant demand waivers, and as more accidental landlords filter through from the sales market.

While the rental market is continuing to defy all expectations, rising inflation and the increased cost of living means that we cannot expect rents to keep pace, particularly now the return to the city movement is largely behind us and the bottom of the prime market is likely to stabilise.

Significant growth over the past three years also limits the capacity for further substantial growth and as a result, sensible pricing will be key to attracting tenants and securing tenancies moving forward.

Stock shortages are also likely to ease gradually as additional supply comes to the market from cash investors looking to take advantage of higher rents as well as accidental landlords, as the sales market cools. We are therefore expect rates of rental growth to return to more historic norms over the longer term.
