STAGE 06/ DESIGN THESIS
The thesis explores the pocket spaces in Byker Estate to develop a network of connections between the area’s residents and its surroundings. The scheme follows an in-depth feasibility studies of the key horizontal and vertical in between spaces to provide an extensive interactive structure for the community.
The project aims to intervene at the spatial and physical environment in the estate which can afford better opportunities for the community. The nature of the
project explores the use of the transitional spaces across the urban fabric to elevate and activate the streetscape.
The scheme comprises of the three in-between spaces, from the North to the South of the Raby Street. Raby Street is the neighbourhood centre and it leads the direct path to the Byker Metro and Shields Road high street. The objective aims to provide a beneficial outcome for the local residents, a community learning centre, that includes a mixed-used of maker studio, creche space, cookery an allotment and a horticulture club space.
The aim of the programme structure is vital to the whole community. It looks at enhancing a collaborative connection between the elderly and young people, providing social interactions and a sense of belonging to them. All of these possibilities are in the basis of promoting a meaningful relationships and career progressions to the people of Byker.

STAGE 03/ Renders and Handrail model for Thinking thru Making week
Entrance in a townhouse
The renders were for a townhouse project during internship on a year-out. The handrail design was inspired by the model to the right.
Concrete and Timber handrail model
These handrail models were part of the exhibition for the Thinking Through Making Week to study the material and tectonic qualities of the design project. The handrails were inspired by I.M Pei Historiche Museum Berlin.

STAGE 05/ DESIGN THESIS
The thesis explores the interconnection between the education districts and pattern of urban form in the communities of Leith. The project Masterplan aims to enhance the working-living environment for the local community while contributing as a hub for children of the ward.
The project uses a plot of Leith links, a principal open space within the docks of Leith in Edinburgh. Leith Links is a public park in Leith that is divided into two main areas, a western and eastern section. It is formed by draining of former lochs. The open space park has previously used as golf links. The park is surrounded by row of colony houses in the south, 18th century villas in the north west corner, school buildings Leith Primary School (built 1898) and former Leith academy
(now housing), St Mary RC School (built 1920) and Seafield Crematorium (built 1887) in the east.
Current site users include putting and bowling greens, cricket ground, football pitches and a children’s play area. The site also holds annual festival such as Edinburgh Mela and the Leith Festival.
The Children’s Centre has three primary education programmes, gardening (indoor/outdoor gardening), cooking (cookery school)and play school (for toddlers to teens). The three main programs then all contribute to a community multi-use hall which could serve as a meet-up for parents or other related exhibitions. The building functions in a amalgamation of different kinds of program which is carefully organised. The initiative of creating along the path in the links, probe an inquisition to design the layout in unison with the activities opposite. That is, the St’s Mary primary school, Leith Links allotments, cricket and bowling green club and the Children’s Orchard. The key element while designing is having a safe secure space to play and allow plenty of open spaces.
