Designing Chinese New Year card As Chinese New Year is coming soon, the company given a task to me and another intern to design a company Chinese New Year Card. After we proposed our CNY card design to our office manager, designs will be selected by the directors as the company’s 2019 CNY card which later will be sending to company’s clients, contractors, partnered engineers and associate architects as a wishes to them.

3.

NECF project In this project, I was given a task to amend AutoCAD drawing and do a little designing and editing 3D model of the project. After amending the floor plans, I was asked to drawing a section of the building using AutoCAD. It was my first time using AutoCAD to draw a section from scratch which was challenging for me. With the guidance of the technical team about and also method of documentation in the company such as filing, coordination, setup, X-ref for easy working on AutoCAD and company standard Plot Style for accurate drawing lineweight, the section that I have drawn is completed in a short time.

3D Modeling Training Other interns and I were given a SketchUp 3D modeling lesson by one of my colleague, Khairul. The lesson is more about company standard’s 3D modeling method which we will need to follow when we were given a 3D modeling task.

2.

Cahaya Alam Clover Coordination Project In this project, I was involved in 3D modeling on the structural system such as foundation, column, beam and slab. Before starting to construct the 3D model, I was briefed about the intention for doing the 3D structure as it is important to do clash analysis on M&E, Structural and Architecture drawing for coordination stage and study building and solving technical issues. For this project, there are 4 types of terrace house design (Type A, B, C and D) and I was required to construct the 3D structural model for all 4 types. Before starting to construct the 3D model, I have to remove all the unwanted layers in AutoCAD drawings to allow me to trace the 3D blocks in SketchUp easily. Hence, I started with Type A design for the structural system.

3.

Cahaya Alam Clover Presentation In this project, I was involved in coloring and adding greenery to the site plan by using Photoshop. As the task given to me has to be presented to the client. Hence, I was asked to color the site plan nicely and make the whole site plan looks interesting which can attract clients eye.

3.0 WEEKLY SUMMARY 3.3 / 3.4 / 3.5 Week 3 - 5 (21/01/2019 - 08/02/2019) 1.

Cahaya Alam Clover Coordination Project 3D modeling on structural system for coordination stage continued throughout this 3 week as there are 3 more types (Type B, C and D) to be done. After I was done with all the structural systems, I was given a lesson from technical member, Khairul about how to insert piping system such as Rainwater Downpipe, Vent Pipe and Sewerage Pipe in the 3D model by using company standard sizes of pipes. As there one of the design type is starting to construct its show units (Type C), my director asked me to start with the piping system on the show unit first as it might have any mistakes on the Architectural and Engineer drawings. Therefore, on week 5, I was mainly focus on the show unit structural and piping system which later I have to do a clash analysis on the building to ensure architectural and engineer drawings are tallied.

2.

Bandar Seri Coalfields (Caledonia) Project In this project, I was involved in Photoshop floor plans along with other interns for BP presentation at KLK Land Berhad office. Before we started with Photoshop, we were briefed by our colleague on the how to prepare a BP presentation. After we were briefed, we have to color the floor plans by rooms with different types of floorings, adding greeneries to make the plans look interesting. There were 2 different residential size which are 20x65 and 22 x 70 terrace. I was in charged on the 20x65 terrace for coloring and adding greeneries. I have produced 2 floor plan proposal for client to the layout they interesting with.

3.0 WEEKLY SUMMARY 3.6 Week 6 (11/02/2019 – 15/02/2019) 1.

Cahaya Alam Clover Site Visit & Discussion On 11th of February, I was informed that I have to attend a site discussion with Ar Martin Lee and my supervisor Sim as we found out some issues on the engineer drawings for Type C Show Unit which is not tally to the architectural drawings. Hence, this is a good opportunity for me to learn more about site meeting or discussion. When we were at site, there were contractors, civil engineers and plumbers joined the discussion about the changes in drawings such as the placement of beam, increase in dimension of slab, type floor traps used and etc. which is important when constructing the building. From the site meeting, I have learned how to deal site issues as an architect with contractors, civil engineers and plumbers.

2.

Cahaya Alam Clover Coordination Project After Type C show unit structural and piping 3D model is done, I started with another type of design which is Type D piping system. Which is also needed for clash analysis on Type D terrace design.

3.0 WEEKLY SUMMARY 3.7 Week 7 (18/02/2019 – 22/02/2019) 1.

Cahaya Alam Clover Coordination Project On this week, I were required to redo the architectural 3D model for Type C unit as there were mistakes on the 3D model which does not tally to the architectural drawings. Hence, I have to start with removing unwanted layers in AutoCAD drawings and import it into SketchUP for modeling. The architectural 3D model is then later used for clash analysis along with M&E and structural plan for coordination. Overall from this coordination project since week 2, I have learned that as an architect, we not only do designing, AutoCAD drawings or SketchUp 3D modeling. But, we also have to study M&E and structural drawings and carry out building coordination to ensure no technical issues when constructing the building.

2.

Building & Bomba Drawings Submission for Emerald West In this project, I was involved in folding and arranging Building and Bomba drawings submission along with one of the intern as there are a total of 8 copy of drawings have to be folded in A4 size and arrange according to drawings number based on the building and bomba submission checklist as the drawings have to be approved by the authority and also by Bomba whether the building meet the requirements set by the authority and Bomba such as building setbacks. After drawings were folded and arranged according to the number, we were asked to bring the bomba submission drawings to the director office to have signature on each drawings.

OTHER INVOLVEMENT: 1.

WEEKLY TEAM MEETING Every Monday during my internship training, there will be a team meeting in the office meeting room which discuss about project progress, site meetings, project submission and etc. The meeting is important for the team as it can help us in keep in touch on the project we involved and knowing about the progress of other members projects in which we can give a hand to them if they need any assistance. Through every team meeting, I learnt that as an architect, your job is not only dealing with clients, contractors and so on. You still have to ensure that your team is on the right track.

4.0 CONCLUSION Throughout this short period of time having an internship training in CL+O architects Sdn Bhd, I really appreciate my supervisor, Sim Shau Jiunn and other colleague such as Khairul, Tengku and etc. for patiently guiding me from the beginning of my training till end. In this 7 weeks, I have learned much things about architecture which I might not learned in my university academics such as procedure of submission to authority and client from tender drawings, construction drawing to building & bomba submission drawings and gained much knowledge in Software skills such as SketchUp and AutoCAD. In this short period of time, I have learned that being an architect is not only designing, but also teamwork is important as we need to maintain a professional yet a close relationship with our partner in the same field such as contractors, engineers and etc. Last but not least, thanks and appreciation to the company’s directors, Ar Chiam, Ar Martin and Ar Lenny gives me an opportunity to be part of CL+O architects’ team to work and learn.
