INTRODUCTION A restless mind gives no respite or rest. It makes us jump from one worry to another, from fear to anxiety. Little by little, we weave such complicated webs in our brains that we lose that wonderful privilege known as inner peace. However, it is possible that many confuse the concept of "restless mind" with curiosity and productivity. Although it is true, at times, that internal energy reflects the desire to learn, in reality most of the time the restlessness is pure mental noise. It is confusion, fatigue, and unhappiness. Often it is said that there is no worse enemy than the one we create in our head. Nonetheless, rather than seeing it as our own responsibility, we must view this inner stress as a subtle combination of many things. In this eBook I am going to propose that you reflect on this in order to find your inner Zen. You can do it. It only takes a little time committing to a new way of thinking and a new way of living all about calmness, awareness, and using our breath. It is easy to do this if you live it like a journey, a step-by-step process. There is only one massive foundational ingredient you need: The internal motivation to do this!

Zen: Night Rituals

Your mind works throughout the night, even when you’re sleeping. Did you fall asleep with a phone in your hand or the TV on? Was it a stressful day that left you with an endless list of things to do? What you do before falling asleep determines what the following day will bring. As much as we like to think that a new day is a fresh start, that isn’t completely true. It’s more about how you set yourself up from the night before. How do you currently end your days? Are you running around until you put your head on your pillow? Do you lay down and start thinking about all of the things you haven’t yet completed? Then you start worrying about all the what-ifs and your mind goes into a deep rabbit hole that lasts a few hours. Before you know it, it’s 3AM and you are wide awake trying to figure out the answers to all of the questions - that you have no control over.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases.

4

Wouldn’t it feel so good if once you hit the pillow, your mind wanders and then your eyes close and take you into an 8-hour dream world? Yes! That feels so dang good. You’re about to get started and find your Zen. But first, let’s figure out what you’re already doing that’s good and what needs to be changed to achieve the Zen you long for.

What time do you normally go to bed?

How long does it take you to fall asleep?

Are there any things that keep you awake and push your sleep time back?

What are the things that are keeping you up?

What can you do about those things that are keeping you up?

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases.

Let’s move forward with some suggestions that will help set your night up for success, so you can experience a Zen-filled day

01

tomorrow.

CLEAR YOUR MIND

Days can be long and stressful, but your night doesn’t have to follow the same suit. Instead of running around up until the moment you hit the pillow, set aside some time to wind down and clear your mind before shutting your eyes. Have a cup of tea and do some journaling about the day’s occurrences. How did certain situations make you feel? What would you change and what will you keep on doing? Write it all down. The power of pen hitting paper is more than you can imagine. Next, review the question above on what you can do to prevent you from staying up at night. Add that into your bedtime routine.

ESSENTIAL OILS: Add a drop of lavender essential oil to your tea. This oil is relaxing and will help take the edge off after a long busy day. Lavender helps calm the mind and calms the insecurities that are felt when one risks their true thoughts and feelings. This is the time to add your favorite relaxing oils to the diffuser in your bedroom. Don't know where to start? Grab some frankincense and lavender and add enough for the size of your room. Not only will these help you relax and calm your mind, but it will help you get those true thoughts down on paper. Fill that journal up, sister. 02

PRACTICE GRATITUDE

The day is over, and it may seem like you didn’t accomplish everything you planned on. Although, when you sit and think about what you did complete, what lives you made a difference in, and what little tasks were the start to something bigger, you’ll realize there is a lot to be thankful for. Take some time to write down or say out loud 5-10 things you are grateful for today. Make it a family thing and have each person say 5-10 things. If gratitude is flowing throughout the house, it will make an even better night of sleep (for everyone). And that will reflect in your Zen.

Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to keep track of all the great things that are happening in your life also.

You can get an actual gratitude journal, there are many out there, or you can use a notebook or plain journal and devote it to gratitude. There are times that you may rattle off a list of things you are grateful for and 5 minutes later, you forget what they were. If you keep a gratitude journal, you can remember for a lifetime. I love this especially during times that I’m not feeling enough - that does happen to most of us. Being able to go back to that journal and be reminded of all the things that have been accomplished can really lift your spirit. Try it!

ESSENTIAL OILS: I can't think of a better oil here than the one blended specifically to promote feelings of gratitude. The blend of Gratitude encourages the soul to surrender and accept life as it is so you can find an appreciation for all of life’s experiences. Begin to use this oil during your time of gratitude, watch your gratitude list grow and your life change before your eyes.

TECH-FREE Shut off all screens and technology an hour before actually going to sleep. It’s ok to stop and watch a show or scroll social media for a few minutes to catch up on business, friends and family or other important things happening. Just don’t let them get you all caught up and bring additional stress to your mind. Protect yourself. After screens are shut, leave them somewhere outside of your bedroom. You do not want the option to roll over and reach for that phone at any time of the night - or the morning. In place of the TV and screens, read a book. Read anything that interests you and make sure it is something that makes you feel good. Set yourself up for a good nights sleep by filling your mind with content that helps you to feel good. Make yourself cozy, grab your cup of tea and catch up on something good (a novel, a self-help book, informational reading). Reading makes you tired and this will be a sure quick way to close your eyes without the blue light that contributes to sleep issues. You may even find yourself with the book on top of you when you wake in the morning. 😊 Now that’s one good night of sleep.

ESSENTIAL OILS: Present Time® is a centering blend that will help you push away the need for the screen. As time progresses, most of society needs to be fulfilled by social media, which is causing more stress. As you center using Present Time®, you can let go of the outside world and become one with the present moment.

BEDROOM TRANQUILITY

Your bedroom cleanliness, organization and feeling has an effect on your mind, stress, and sleep. Be sure to tidy up when you first enter the bedroom and try to leave it neat before starting your days. Make the bed, put clothes away (dirty and clean) and straighten up dressers and side tables.

ESSENTIAL OILS: As a part of bedtime routine, add some calming and sleep-enhancing oils to a diffuser. For extra sleep benefits, roll them on your feet and neck as well. Recommended oils for peaceful and deep sleep are Tranquil®, Peace & Calming®, Copaiba. Lavender and Frankincense are also a great support for a restful environment at bedtime. Have fun, find some favorite diffuser recipes to have on hand that promote restful sleep.

ZEN: Morning Rituals

Now that you know how to end your days in a way that will bring Zen for the next, let’s learn how to flow into a day of Zen from the moment you open your eyes. Zen begins as soon as you wake up, with the first breath you take and thought that runs through your mind. Take a few deep breaths to start off with a clear mind, without thinking about all of the things on your to-do list for the day ahead.

01

JUST BREATHE

Take a few deep breaths to start off with a clear mind, without thinking about all of the things on your to-do list for the day ahead.

Inhale for 5 counts. Exhale for 5 counts. Inhale for 5 counts. Exhale for 5 counts.

Repeat 2 more times or do it for longer if you feel it is needed. Breathing can be done any time throughout the day to rid stress and find your calm. If something happens that triggers you and you feel the stress coming on, stop and breathe. This breathing technique allows you to take your mind off of any situation that is raising your stress levels. A great deal of research has been done showing just how effective this simple skill can be even during the most stressful times. The great part? You can do it anytime, anywhere, even if you have nothing else with you.

ESSENTIAL OILS: Use R.C® or Breath Again® to help open your air passages to let go and receive. These oils can help you to embrace life through breath and encourages one to be fully open to life. Breathe Again® may also support your relationship with spirit and deepens your connection to life. Don't have these blends yet? You can use Peppermint essential oil, which can is a great oil to help start the day.

GROUND YOURSELF Take a few moments to ground yourself. Remember the time is now, not yesterday or tomorrow, but now. Get centered and realize, you cannot change the past and the future is not promised. All you need to focus on is here and now and make it the best you can. To stress before something has happened is not going to bring you Zen. Take the time to figure out what it will take to be connected to the here and now. Let’s get grounded. A great practice to integrate into your life daily is "Earthing". Years of extensive research has shown that connecting to the Earth’s natural energy by simply standing barefoot on the earth, can help free electrons be taken up into the body. These electrons could be referred to as nature’s biggest antioxidants and help neutralise the damaging excess free radicals that can lead to inflammation and disease in the body. When you apply grounding essential oils (some of natures most powerful plant products) you can get even better effects. ESSENTIAL OILS: Use Grounding®, Valor® or any essential oil derived from trees to get grounded. Grounding® strengthens a connection with the lower body and with the earth. These connections are very important, especially for those who are excessive thinkers, speakers, or have a lot of spiritual activity happening. It also teaches true perseverance by assisting one to stay present with a specific plan or idea until it is completed. For these reasons, it is extremely important to ground yourself before each day starts.

PRAY/MEDITATE Prayer/Meditation should be a non-negotiable for every person. This does not say you need to be of a certain faith. If you are, you can use whatever resources are accessible to you. But either way, do one of these. Pray and/or meditate about whatever you wish for your day ahead. Spirituality of some sort will deepen your connection to life and will provide a positive outlook on what your life could be. Do this for as long as you are most comfortable. It could be 5 minutes, or it could be an hour - whatever you have time for. The research showing how impactful this practice can be is conclusive. Quieting the mind, allowing time to be intentional and focus can literally change how you approach your day and handle any twists life may send your way.

ESSENTIAL OILS: Frankincense is shown to have affect on the pineal gland which is thought to assist in spiritual awakening and helps an individual feel the love of the Divine. It also shields the body and soul from negative influences and assists the soul in its spiritual evolution. This oil is great during prayer and meditation practices because it opens spiritual channels that allow an individual to connect to God/Source.

BE OPEN TO ABUNDANCE Do you have an abundance mindset?

Do you believe that everything will come to you and you will accomplish all of the things on your list? Without this mindset, it is very possible that your days don’t look the way you wish they would. But it doesn’t have to stay like that. Let’s do this together. Without this mindset of abundance, it’s really easy to get stressed. When you don’t think you have enough of ___________, it’s bound to make you feel uneasy and worried that you won’t be able to succeed. This is not limited to money, but could be time, education, friends, love, self-worth, (you name it).

In order to improve this mindset, you can start by saying some affirmations when you wake up in the mornings. I have more than enough money to do all of the things I want/need to. I have so much time to achieve all of my goals today. I am smart and know everything I need to so I can (whatever your goals are). I have friends all around the world that want to talk to me. I am loved. I am worthy of anything I want.

ESSENTIAL OILS:

The oil blend Abundance was formulated to assist us in having an abundant mindset. It supports a positive mood, fosters creativity, and inspires abundance. It encourages individuals to let go of scarcity mindsets. Abundance is for far more than money, it inspires limitless solutions for problems and issues. Sharing, playing, relaxing, and enjoying the bounties of life are the gifts available from this oil.

ZEN: Planning

Sorry to break the news to you, but ZEN doesn’t just happen by miracle - although that would be really nice. Since it doesn't just happen on its own, let’s be grateful and play with the cards we’ve been dealt. I’ve yet to meet a person that lives in Zen and doesn’t have a plan and routine in place for including Zen moments on purpose. Luckily, all this means is that you need to have a simple plan and a routine. When you just go with the flow (yes, this is nice sometimes - usually when you’re on vacation) and have no plans about food, appointments, events, money, etc. you can drive yourself mad. Count on having ZERO Zen if that is how you choose to live. No judgment at all, just know what you’re getting yourself into. When you have a plan, things happen on a timeline and all steps are taken accordingly. And that means, there is less room for chaos. Less chaos equates to more Zen in your life!! Do you normally plan your weeks out? Follow the steps below to create a plan that is bound to give you more Zen than you’re used to.

MEAL PLAN

Creating a meal plan is really easy and will save you so much time every night. Really, how much time do you spend every night figuring out what you will make? How many of those nights do you wind up ordering out because you can’t decide and you’re just too tired to even cook? Get excited because once you have a weekly meal plan, you’ll save all of that time of planning and stress - isn’t it stressful? You’ll also save money since you won’t have to order out a couple times a week. So now you have more time in your day, more money, and less stress. That sounds like a big win to me!

Start off by planning breakfasts: pick a protein, some veggies and/or fruits for each day of the week ahead. If it makes it easier, plan out 2 or 3 recipes that can be made in bulk that can be eaten a few times a week. Making these plans ahead of time will also make it easier for you to choose food sources that deliver the most nutrition for the calories. A few quick easy breakfast options are: Einkorn Granola chia pudding Yogurt parfaits Slique Smoothie / Balance Complete

16

Next, plan out lunches: pick a protein, carb and some veggies and/or fruits for each day of the week ahead. Again, plan out a few recipes that can be made in bulk.

Some quick lunch options are: Green salads egg/chicken/tuna salad Avocado toast

Einkorn bread with chicken breast Pure Protein Complete smoothie

Last, plan out dinners: pick proteins, carbs and some veggies for each night. Dinners are a little more work because most people don’t like to eat the same thing more than once a week for dinner. Just try to make the meals simple. Some easy dinner tips: Use a crock pot or InstantPot Prep all of the ingredients at the beginning of the week Make some quick and easy meals at the beginning of the week that can be

reheated Use your Vitality Essential Oils to not only add incredible flavor, but the healthy benefits as well.

ESSENTIAL OILS:

There are many essential oils that can be used in your food. They make it so much easier to cook. Add one drop and done! Not only do they give some powerful flavor, but they have a ton of health benefits too. Some that can be used when cooking are Thyme, Black Pepper, Pink Pepper, Oregano, Marjoram, Rosemary, Lemon, Lime, Cilantro, Cinnamon Bark, Ginger and so many more. Search the Vitality section of the Young Living website and start planning!

02

FAMILY/PERSONAL PLANS Family plans should come first. Sure, you may have work hours, but more importantly are your family plans. Schedule them in your planner. Whether you use a paper planner or your phone, schedule them and do not allow other things to get in the way. You know what is most important in your life. Be sure to set them as priority. Be sure to schedule date nights, time with kids, and any personal appointments you may have. Schedule these prior to scheduling anything else. A lot of our Zen gets taken from us because of guilt. We start to feel guilty that we are taking too much time for work and other things and it weighs heavily on us. Yes, work may be important and required, but it shouldn’t take over your life. Remember this when making your plans. A great habit to start is adding a time each weekend (I personally like Sunday mornings to do this) and block out the important times in your schedule for the coming week.

03

Remember the old adage, "failing to plan is planning to fail". This goes for our personal life every bit as much as for our work life. When I work on setting my scheduleI like to have a little rosemary or basil in the diffuser near by. These oils are great for helping me focus!

SELF-CARE PLANS You may look at this and think it’s impossible to make plans for self-care. As women, we usually put ourselves last. Everything else comes first: family, friends, clients, housework. Many women feel that they shouldn’t worry about themselves because they feel guilty. What if we’re not taking enough care of everyone and everything else?

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases.

18

Will they be ok? The answer is YES, they will be ok. Sometimes you just need to take a few steps back and see how it all works out. Stop feeling like life can’t go on if you’re not there. If you have young kids, this may look a little different. You can still find a way to get some time for yourself, which is why it all must be planned out. Plan at least one time during the week to take an hour for yourself. This could be to get your hair or nails done, to get a massage, exercise, to get an hour of peace and quiet or even to get some journaling done. No, this will not be your only hour of Zen. Every day could be full of Zen if you follow the plan. And that plan consists of selfcare. Depending on where you are in life (young children, older children, no children, pets, elderly family) things will look different. All you need is to arrange your life accordingly so you can find some Zen. It doesn’t mean you have to leave your house or ditch your kids. It just means to make a plan for a time that you can get into another room or even sit in the same room as you, while they’re occupied, and you can get something (anything) done. A truly important step towards actually being able to follow your schedule is to make

04

sure your family is aware of it! Let them know when you need some quiet time, or time that you need to really focus. Often, the simple act of asking them to agree that these times are important make it so much easier to stick to the commitments you've made to yourself.

WORK/BUSINESS PLANS No doubt that you need to get all of your work and business plans scheduled. Most people have to work or may even love to work (if you’ve found a career driven by your purpose and passions). These are absolutely important times that need to be planned weekly. You may have a set work schedule, which means you may need to schedule that in your planner and schedule everything else around it. I get it! That’s totally respected. Just be sure to schedule all of your other plans that are important around this schedule. If you have a business of your own, (maybe a Young Living business?) be sure to schedule according to priority (life & work balance). Try your hardest to set boundaries around work. More about this to come. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases.

19

05

MONEY PLANS Did you think we left this out? Absolutely not. Most people I work with lose their Zen due to money issues. Without a plan, it just doesn’t work. Do you have a money plan? For these plans, you can use a paper planner or a spreadsheet or any other budgeting tool you may have. It’s really nice to have a weekly money plan, not just a monthly one. Things can go a little off track when you don’t have the full picture. Keep track of what income is coming in, what is already saved up for the week, any bills or events that are coming up that will cost any money. Track all of the things that you know will cost anything. Making these plans for your money can save your sanity and will contribute to a little more Zen in your life. Trust me, if you’re going crazy daily to figure out what needs to be paid and from where, you will be extremely stressed out. Don’t do this. This is just a simple money plan, but

06

you can find other money/budgeting tools on the internet.

MORNING & NIGHT PLANS We started this Zen challenge by talking about the morning and night rituals to follow, in order to have more Zen days. All you need to do now is schedule them and follow the plan. Think you can do it?

ESSENTIAL OILS:

When making my plans, I love to use essential oils that help me be creative and organizational, have clarity and vision and feel empowered. Don’t you think having a plan should make you feel empowered? So here are a few of the oils I diffuse while planning out my days and weeks. Lemon to help focus, Inspiration to give me some creativity, clarity and vision, and Believe to help me feel empowered as I create the plans that will lead me to my biggest goals and Zen.

Want Zen? Set some boundaries girl.

There are no ifs, ands or buts about this. If you don’t have any boundaries, you don’t have any Zen. When people-pleasing becomes the way, you forget about yourself and the things that are truly important to you. In order to have Zen, this cannot be happening.

LET’S SET SOME BOUNDARIES.

01.

Get clear on your priorities: self-care, family, business, personal.

02.

If someone invites you to something, check your planner to make sure

03.

Communicate what you will not tolerate. When people think you’ll do

04.

When you get asked to do extra work, be sure to consider if it is worth

you do not already have something (a priority) scheduled.

whatever they say, they take advantage.

your time. Don’t do it for the money if it means sacrificing your time, family or self-care. Once again, check your planner.

05.

Think about the impact of your actions. Think before taking action. Is

06.

Do things because they will make you feel good, not out of feeling

07.

Offer an alternative. When invited or asked to do something and you are

08.

Stand strong for what you believe. Hold to your own truth. Do not do

this action going to be beneficial to you and your family?

obligated to any other person, place or thing.

not available, offer another time that you can do it (only if you want to).

anything because it is what is expected by anyone else. Only do what you want to do, and feel is right.

ESSENTIAL OILS:

Valor oil helps individuals stand up for themselves, be proactive, and feel capable of making their own choices, regardless of others. Valor gives the courage to say “no”. This oil can assist when there has been a history of weakened boundaries. If you need the push to stand up for yourself and stop giving into others, this is a great oil of choice.

STEP BY STEP:

OVER 7 DAYS PLANNING DAY: Create your plans for the next 7 days. Be sure to plan out each item listed (meals, family & personal, self-care, business & work, morning & night rituals). If this is your first-time planning, it may take a little longer as you get used to it. I know you can do it! Just imagine how this is going to help you get more Zen going forward. Set your boundaries. Create your limits, what you will tolerate and what you will not. Know your boundaries so

you

don’t

overstep

them.

This

will

become

something you don’t even have to think about as you stick to them more and more. Secret: it’s going to feel so good. You get a little tired after allowing everyone to rule your life. That’s all about to end here. When we know better, we do better! DAYS 1-7: Follow the plans. Each day will get easier as you get comfortable following the plans you have made. Feel free to do a little more every day, if you feel like you’re getting the hang of it.

Conclusion The daily routines and techniques I listed in this guide are the beginnings of a Zen holistic approach to relaxation and ridding your body of stress. These techniques can help you find a moment of calmness in the stormy reality of your life. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life it is easy to feel stressed and overloaded, and sometimes it is necessary to stop for a moment to breathe and regain consciousness of what is happening around us. The routines and daily plans have several benefits and above all will help you to:

Relieve stress. Restore calmness, decrease anger, and allow the angry feelings to slip away little by little. Make you reconnect with your true self. Find a connection of body, mind, and soul. Anchor yourself in the present moment. Make

you

appreciate

your

life

and

your

presence in this world.

As you follow these daily routines and plans, you will find yourself stressing less and enjoy life more. Use the next couple of pages to help you get started on your planning and Zen journey. Why is this important to me?

I will start with Gratitude. I am thankful and grateful for...

Thank you for taking time to read this booklet and hopefully start to implement some of the suggestions. This booklet is not meant to be an exhaustive dive into how to live your best Zen life, but to help you explore and consciously move towards leading your life so that it doesn't lead you. You may or may not have realized that Young Living Essential Oils can help you on this journey, and as you start to add these little droplets to your daily routine, it may just even help you obtain goals you had never before imagined. Remember that life is a journey, and journeys are best when planned.
