Division of Calamba enhances Reading Month
Division of Calamba celebrated the Reading Month which aims to motivate every child to be a good reader.
According to Mrs. Marilyn Montalbo, the objective of the Reading Month is to motivate the children to read more and learn.
Meanwhile, the DepEd Calamba held different competitions such as Storytelling, Spelling Quiz Bee, Speech Choir and Chamber Theater in different clusters in the Division odCalamba to continue the Every Child is a Reader Program
According to Rhen Jayron Dela Cruz; Grade VI pupil, he thinks that the Reading Month is
good for the students like him because it encourages the children to read more and also enhances the reading skills of the pupils.
“Sa tingin ko, ayos naman ito para sa mga bata at estudyante tulad ko dahil naiimpluwensyahan silang magbasa.” Jayron said.
However, San Juan Elementary School (SJES) won different awards in various competitions as part of the celebration the Reading Month.
Calamba History to be discussedinclassrooms
DepEd Calamba includes in the HEKASI subject the teaching of Calamba history starting this year in connection of the 272nd anniversary of the city.
City Ordinance No.8 Series of 2014 is an ordinance enjoining all public elementary and secondary schools within the City of Calamba to include as part of the school’s curriculum, a study of the history of the city, to be done every August of the school year, in time with the celebration of Calamba’s Foundation Day.
This program aims to educate and instill in the minds of our generation the richness of our culture, the significant history of our city, the heroes and the famous men of Calamba, and other relevant matters.
According to Mayor Justine Chipeco, “Sa pagsapit ng ika-272 anibersaryo ng pagkakatatag ng Calamba ay batid ang kahalagahan ng kasaysayan ng lungsod.” DepEd leads in teaching the history of our city to deepen the value of our first ancestors.
Meanwhile, pupils and teachers who are not familiar with the true history of the city gain knowledge and understanding.
“Kami po ay hindi talaga taga-dito sa Calamba pero nang mapag -aralan po namin sa HEKASI ang history ng Calamba, na-love ko po ito,” one of the Grade Six pupil said. She also added that she learned San Juan River is the biggest river in the city.
CR renovation spends P70K
Repair for the 16 comfort rooms spends more than P70,000 aimed to have comfortable CRs for the pupils and the facultyaswell.
Ms. Lorna Teope, prioritize the physical facilities of the school. One of those is the improvement of the CRs in each classroom. Every room has a wash area. Floor tiles and some damage doors were changed. Her objective was accomplished little by little.
According to Teope, she can consider the project as one of her accomplishments.
Meanwhile, the project was in-line with that of Mayor Justin Chipeco which made a contest for the cleanest CR in school. Also he told in a speech
Luis Miguel Lucindo | that he wants to have clean comfortable restrooms all over in Calamba.
Chipeco tied-up with the DepEd. It will be an easy avenue because what pupils learned in school of valuing cleanliness will help them bring at home. Everybody will be educated.
“Pinapanatili namin itong malinis kasi bukod sa ayaw ni Ma’am na madumi ayaw din namin na madumi ito kaya araw -araw ay may naka-assign sa aming klase na magmo-monitor kung malinis ito,” Andrew Cahilig, Grade Six pupil said.
However, each school will have an unannounced visit of personnel from the City Hall. The personnel will come anytime not only once but several times in order to check if it is really a perfect choice.

“I practice my comic strip drawing even if I am not feeling well. I am very happy because my parents supported me in this contest,” Caldozo said.
Another category in the contest is the Poster-Making. Eliza Mae Ambrocio from Grade III joined it but unfortunately he did not win.
Mrs. Marilyn Montalbo, Science Coordinator and coach said that the event aims to enhance the value of health in us.

SJES 1st time broadcasters, wins 2nd Place
SJES RADIO BROADCAST TEAM won for the first time in the Division School Press Conference last September 28, 2015 held at JoseRizal MemorialSchool.
The objective of the Radio Broadcasting is to preserve the importance of the journalism through the medium radio and to enhance the skills of the pupils when it comes in the field of broadcasting.
SJES team pursue to join the contest because according to them, they believe that if big schools can make a name regarding the field, they can too.
A month before the training for the aspiring Radio Broadcaster in SJES, the Filipino and
English advisers Ms. Angelica R. Lamberte and Ms. Jasmine L. Martinez gave sometime to have their auditions to those interested pupils wanted to join in the said ground. With the help of the School Principal who we’d rather say the motivator to this, the success made possible.
This is their chance to prove that they are belong. And after a month of every day training in Scriptwriting, Directing, Technical Directing, and how to speak properly in front of microphone by the two News Presenter, News Anchor Infomercials, though it was their first time to join in this field, they rank best from all the beginners.

“We do not know the reason why but we still believe that our parents are supportive for the Brigada program” a faculty member said.
The Barangay officials supported the Brigada. They also donate foods for the snacks of all.
The five-day cleaning of the school includes the repainting of the fence, wall, stage and plant boxes; cleaning of rooms and yards as well as CRs; trimming and replanting; and repairing signage.
SJES clasp a break in ‘BigSayWit’
School spends P15K for seminar
More than P15,000 spent a budget for the teachers’ seminar last May 4, 2015 in Shercon Resort and Ecology Park, Batangas.
This seminar aims to promote the equality in the field of education.
The budget was from the MOOE (Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses). All schools are entitled to have such activity.
“Our objective for teambuilding is to develop a good camaraderie and oneness among teachers in SJES,” Lorna Teope; the principal said.
The teachers did several games. A facilitator was assigned to their group to handle
them in the activity. Some of the games are building a pyramid using the plastic cups. The two groups should have the unity to make it as fast as they can. Other game was the archer, rabbit, wall.
The group also experienced to do the zipline and wall climbing. Some teachers done it for the first time while the others have experienced it already.
“First, I was afraid to ride in the zip line because it was my first time, but when I was riding already, I enjoyed. It was really fun.” Mrs. Almeda said .

| Isabel TejadaSan Juan Elementary School (SJES) fail to grab a place in the Bigkas-Sayaw-Awit (BigSayWit) Cluster Competition held at Chipeco Hall, Jose Rizal Memorial School (JRMS) last August 22, 2015.
The performance was from the piece of Dr. Erico Memije Habijan entitled Wikang Filipino, Wikang ng Kaunlaran as part of the celebration of Buwan ng Wika.
Five different elementary schools showed the emulous aura in the competition such as Jose Rizal Memorial School (JRMS), Looc Elementary
Elementary School (SES), San Juan Elementary School.
Meanwhile, JRMS crowned as the first place, LES got the 2nd place and SES for the 3rd place spot. JRMS will be competing in the Division Festival of Talents. And they got the probability to go on the Regional Festival of Talents in Binan, Laguna.
Therefore, few members said that even they did not win in the competition, they are still accept the result although they get disappointed because of the technicalities.
“It is okay because we give our best that the judges wanted. And maybe this not meant for us.”Praisha Mabborang said.
P10K spent for classroom TVs
|
MOOE (Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses) spends over 10 thousand pesos for three TV sets of classrooms to provide the new learning system using multi-media resources.
One of the priorities in school of Ms. Lorna Teope; the principal is to provide television in all the classrooms in SJES.
According to Teope, acquiring those televisions to complete all the classrooms is one of her achievements in school. She also added that she still expect more projects which will provide the pupils a more comfortable study and stay in school.
The teacher assigned to the classroom who will received the TV set voluntarily
added their own expense to augment the price and for them to buy a much bigger television.
“Malaking tulong ito sa pagtuturo dahil nagagamit namin ang multi-media at palagay ko mas effective,” Mr. De Vale said, Grade IV teacher.
Meanwhile, SJES received three more TV from DO. All of the classrooms now in SJES had their TV. DepEd suggests using now the multi-media technique in teaching. They believe that this system will cater the need of the new learners in the technology age.
The teachers prepare their multi-media resources everyday.
Teachers’ Day Celeb recognizes Best Mentors
Marilyn Montalbo, one of the Grade Six teachers of San Juan ES (SJES) received the title as “The Best Teacher” of the school during the Culminating activity of the World Teachers’ Day Celebration at Letran de Calamba, October 5, 2015.
The award was given to a teacher in each elementary and secondary public school for those deserving faculty who made the best in their chosen field. Montalbo was the Science Coordinator, Disbursing Officer, Feeding Coordinator (National), and Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) Adviser.
“Masaya ako sa na-receive kong award as Best Teacher in our school because all my efforts are recognized,” Montalbo said. She also added that having such award is a reminder for her to make her work more efficient because expectation will really come in a long run.
Meanwhile, Diosdado San Antonio, Regional Director of Region IV, shared his message to the teachers in the program. He congratulated the teachers for their efforts of molding the young learners in our generation. He also talked about the benefits as a teacher.
Some faculty got the chance to receive the gift from a Raffle Draw. There are grocery items and cash gifts. Montalbo also was one who fortunately got a cash gift from the raffle.
However, several politicians came to the activity and some of them gave messages to the teachers. The Teachers’ Day Celebration was a culminating activity to value teachers in our community. The activity was done the whole day which according to some it made them boring.

Hosted by the UOCCI President, Leticia F. Cabiedes, the senior citizens danced for the opening.

K-12 continues the journey
| Luis Miguel LucindoTraining of K-12 for Grade Four teachers in Calamba was introduced last April at Colegio de San Juan de Letran to continue the new curriculum by the Grade Four pupils this school year.
The seminar focused on the new curriculum guide by the Department of Education (DepEd) which replaced the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) to K to 12 Curriculum. The government aims to focus on same curriculum with other countries in order for the new generation to compete globally.
According to Mrs. Digna Tolentino, Grade Four teacher, the DepEd allotted budget for the training. “Mas ok na yung seminar ngayon sa Grade Four kasi provided na nila ang mga Teachers’ Guide at Learners’ Manual unlike dati, kaya maswerte na kami, Tolentino added.
Meanwhile, there are still parents who don’t like the program because for them it is only an additional expense because of Senior High School. “Imbes na makakapagtrabaho na ang anak namin ay hindi pa dahil sa additional na level,” one of the parents said.
However, during the Parents’ Orientation on the opening of classes, the school discusses the effect of K to 12 to the pupils, parents as well as to the whole system itself. More than 50% of the parents attended the meeting and understand finally the reason of the said program.
“Ngayon, medyo nauunawaan ko na ang tungkol sa K to 12 maganda naman pala ito,” one of the attendees said.
DepEd reiterated that the K-12 curriculum is a good thing because even if you only finished Senior High School you can easily get a job. It can also help the pupils who will live on other countries, they don’t have to come back to the Philippines and study K-12 curriculum again.
Waste Disposal, No. 1 Problem in San Juan
The City Health Sanitation Office of Calamba made ways to manage the proper waste disposal of each barangay all over thecityin linewiththeNationalProgramwhich promotesthe propersegregation.
According to Gregorio Vergara, Brgy. Captain of San Juan, the barangay officials had difficulties in implementing the said program. “Mahirap kausapin ang mga tao, kahit paulit-ulit na sabihan sila na ibukod ang bawat uri ng basura ay hindi talaga sumusunod ang iba,“ he added.
The officials still continue to remind and find ways to make the barangay as clean as it is.
Waste segregation aims to promote the total proper disposal of the different types of garbage as biodegradable, non-
biodegradable, recyclable and special garbage. The barangay made ways to remind the households to the good effect of waste segregation as a whole.
Meanwhile, some of the households let their garbage stay along the street without the presence yet of the garbage collector. Vergara added that stray animals usually destroy the garbage bags every morning which cause the garbage to overflow and mess the roadsides.
However, other concerned residents done their part to follow the regulation on this program. “Sa bahay po sumusunod po kami sa pag-bubukod-bukod ng mga basura. Yung mga naiipon naming mga bote, kahon at dyaryo ay binebenta ng mga anak namin at nagkakaroon sila ng konting pera para baon,” one of the parent in school said
CALABARZON POST Survey: PNOY’s governance, disappoints SJES pupils
8 out of 10 students of San Juan Elementary School (SJES) say PNOY’s performance this year is not good.
Some students said that President Benigno C. Aquino, Jr. (PNOY) always promises for project but he never done anything. Most of them do not like PNOY’s performance because there are many blames also to him.
One of the issues that blames on him is the Pork barrel scam. Some students say, PNOY do not move and take an action regarding the issue.
“Katulad lang siya ng ibang pulitiko na isinusunod lang ang pangalan kaya naging presidente” Jehremy Bello; student in college said.
However, two students say PNOY is doing a lot of things but the people cannot see it. “PNoy’s administration lessens the corrupt officials in the government. Through his ‘Daang Matuwid’ he let corrupt officials put into jail, they added.
According to Rhen Jayron Dela Cruz; Grade 6 student, he thinks PNOY is not leading and running the Philippines well.
“Kung may ginawa siya sana maunlad na tayo ngayon.” Bernard Alvarez said.
He also added that the government should provide them as pupil the need in education. We have the right to have comfortable and conducive classrooms.
According to Rubylou Oliveros; teacher of SJES, passing the K-12 program is an experimentation of the basic education in the Philippines.

Both my parents are uneducated. The poverty challenged me at a very young age. When I was in grade school I have worked for myself aiming to get school. Filipinos expect for a better country
Judgment day for the election 2016 will speak for the new administration. Definitely, voters had to choose the best candidate for them in accordance to their conscience.
Sooner or later presidentiables will surely lay their platforms of government especially dealing with the eradication of poverty.
By creating more and better high-paying jobs can address the country’s poverty issue. Our country today needs leaders who will make change for the nation. A change that will surely benefit all kinds of people. A change that will uplift those who were behinds. We should try to make new scheme that rich will get across the poor so they too will become rich. One will not be happy will not be happy if he is on top but he is alone because he left others below him.
Brain-drain in the Philippines is visible because the government was not trying to support the qualified professionals.
Are we just going to sell our potentials to foreign countries? Of course no! Love your own country. Filipinos are smart, skillful and talented. As evidence, there are lots of our fellowmen who were included in the rooster of scientists as well as other fields. High-paying jobs should be prioritized in our country. One cannot successfully work with an empty stomach. And so, if individuals are supported with jobs, each family could enjoy comfortable living. Man cannot therefore think to do crimes.
Let’s try to work hand in hand. People has freedom but we should consider that it is not doing what you want to do but rather doing what is good and becoming a good person. Stop the corruption. Give what is due to Juan dela Cruz.
As we can see, our technologies are getting even more advanced. A lot of new gadgets have been imported in our country for almost every year. But can all advanced technology teach us good?
Life is a lot easier when digital literacy occurred. Because of those cellphones, tablets, telephones and more, we are able to talk to persons from a distance. Computers make student’s assignments easier to answer and find through the internet. Meanings can be found in the web instead of finding it hardly in the dictionary. Still, because of us being used to these things, some are getting the habit of being lazy.
Being used to computers made us even lazier. WHY? Instead of reading books for research, we would just search it to the Internet. Instead of using our own handwriting in assignments, we would just type with the help of the computer. Instead of finding hard words in the dictionary we would just search it too in the internet.
Digital Laziness
| Raine Antonette EspelaEven in our household chores. There’s the vacuum cleaner in replacement for the broom. The dishwasher so we would be not tired of washing the dishes. We use mixers instead of mixing it using our own strength. We use stoves for easier and faster cooking. So, new technology really made us a lot lazier.
That’s why, we should not rely much on these gadgets and equipment. It does help our work easier and faster, but it does teach us to be lazy. Even if all are digital literate in our country, we should not forget and we should be proud of our traits. We should not get influenced by these gadgets on what they make us do. We are lucky to be born completely. So we should use them all and don’t be lazy on using them. God gave us complete body parts, so we should use it properly. Let’s avoid being lazy.

Better than Worse
The government makes a program for the poor to push them away from poverty and it help to improve the country. Some people believe that the government is only wasting money.
The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program [4Ps] is a human development measure of the national government that provides conditional cash grants to improve the health and the education of the children who want to go in school every day. This kind of program is very important because it helps the poor. Some of the children study very hard to help their families and have a better future.
Each child receives 300 every month and 1, 400 every household with three children. So, each child receives every year a 3 thousand and 15 thousand for each household. They need to use it smartly.
Their children need to be industrious in going to school because the government makes this program to help the children who want to go to school not to make this program a business. Some households do not have discipline in raising a family. They have an idea that if they will have more children, they will get poorer. But in a way they still make additional children because they know that the government will help them. The bottom line is – the children will suffer the effect of emptiness.
Let us not just be dependent to the government. We should also do our part to help ourselves and our family. Even the government makes programs, people also need to find job because if this project will be gone no one can help the poor.
During Brigada Eskwela, families who were recipients of this program need to be in school and help religiously. They have daily attendance but sad to say, we have observed that there are only few parents who truly assist in brigada.
Some pupils who are in the list of this program commit several absences. And the worst is – there are some children who have abroad parents. Is the government making a thorough inspection to who are those capable families who really need the assistance?
We cannot do away to think that there is still an existing ‘palakasan’ today. The more you get nearer to the king, the more you are benefited. Where is the ‘Daang Matuwid’ of PNOY? We are still hoping for the reform in some ways.
Let us not waste the money and time. Our country demands a true and fair treatment to everybody.
Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
Oftentimes our covered court became dirty because of the pupils who did not know HOW AND WHERE to throw the garbage properly. The canals became clogged because of the plastics and other things. The Grade Five and Six pupils were assigned to clean the court everyday and we are also doing our part to do so. Sometimes we find difficulty in cleaning because of this never ending garbage. Some pupils also were playing while we are cleaning so it causes destruction for us and we cannot accomplish early what we do. We hope that you can find way to solve the problem.
Thank you and more power to the staff!
Yours truly, Gwyneth T. Palabrica, Grade VI
The knowledge was come from respect and the one who knows how to respect was reflected that he learned.
LOOKWHO’STALKING
Respect and Learn
The world has been inverted. The way of chances has been changed. In this era, the students don’t have respect; a Filipino values that lead us to good communication and basis for our equality.
We all know that study life is being independent to our studies. We are not like babies. We do not tolerate spoon feeding. In school, we keep in being in touch to our teachers to have good interaction with them. In this era, we have young teachers; fresh minds, new ideas and good interaction with the pupils.
Despite in good relation and interaction to us, do we forget on how to communicate and treat them properly? In short, do we forget on how to respect them?
Yes! We have laws that protect to the pupils
from abusive teachers.
But behind these laws, some pupils abide these laws.
No kindness when they treat their teachers. They forgot to distance on the limitations. Teachers might have deficiency in any aspect but the respect should focus to them.
In addition, too being in touch to the teachers might be a reason for them to forgot the word respect.
According to Confucius, Don’t do unto others what you don’t want others do unto you. Pupils should do their limitations between their teachers. Because the knowledge was came from respect and the one who knows how to respect was reflected that he learned.
EDITORIAL STAFFSDear Gwyneth,
Thank you for your concern in our school. The Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) can surely lead to address that problem. But there will not have a successful solution if each and everyone will not cooperate to solve about the proper garbage disposal. The teachers also can do their part to remind each class about it.
I hope you will be more cooperative to see the problems in our school. Thank you.

Equality
is not only for the gender, color or race.
It also talks about treatment.
”
No one has the power to control life. We need to procreate as stewards in all God’s creation.
”
Lateness can spread throughout the class and it can be a bad influence to other pupils.
Odds may be with us?
Grade School. It means that we are in the training to mold us for the real world. But there is one thing that I don’t understand. Some teachers do not treat their pupils equally. Some of the students here are taking advantage of it and not taking too much on their studies.
It is okay to preach pupil who is outstanding in class but as long as it cannot affect other pupils it is good.
Meanwhile, some teachers are enjoying the favoritism.
Treating the pupils unequally becomes the point that they are not paying too much attention on the other students.
They are focusing on their favorite pupils. This may cause hostile, irritated and make negative thoughts. Sometimes it leads for the pupils to have failing grade.
BULL’SEYE
I'm not saying that it is the teacher’s fault why some pupils are failing. It is also the pupils’ obligation to make their grade better.
We are in grade school. We are starting to learn new ideas around us. We need to be professional in every way. Teachers are not just teaching the pupils. They are training us to be a good pupil. But how we will be ready if some of the students are being spoiled?
Give the pupils chances to show their skills and willingness to learn to pursue their dreams. Motivate the pupils to believe their own passion.
Equality is not only for the gender. It is not only for the color or race. It also talks about treatment. Treatment that I will sure that deserves each one of us. This is not for us. It is also for our future.
Do you care more?
Do you know something about RH Bill?
Law makers in the congress are still having some hearings if it will be passed or not. This bill covers the control for population where Filipinos should choose some artificial methods that will help couples to prevent pregnancy and other medications that can help birth control.
It was said that the Philippine population is getting bigger that is why our country can’t progress. Will these answer our issues?
Some pupils said that they still doesn’t have any idea about this bill, still there are
BREAKTHROUGH
Heart
some sensitive issues that is beyond a young’s mind. They just knew that it will control reproduction.
In their understanding some says it will be a great help to pass the bill so that there will be less street children because the parents will be aware on what are the best ways.
Some pupils believe that life should not be stopped. God let us live life to the fullest. We should take care of what is living. A child should be given a chance to live.
No one has the power to control life. We need to procreate as stewards in all God’s creation. Young mind it may seem, but they can decide.
It’s never too late to be early
Some of the pupils are late when they go to school. Sometimes they want to stay late at night. They don’t know how important going to school early is.
Being punctual is very important for all the pupils because they will not miss something important like flag ceremony and announcements. Late pupils should be punished by their actions.
Being late should be over. They should train themselves to be a disciplined pupil. According to an old saying, “Time is Gold. We cannot turn back the
anymore.
When pupils come late, it can destruct the flow of the lecture or discussion of the class. Lateness can spread throughout the class and it can be a bad influence to other pupils. It is a contagious thing. As pupil, if we are always late in coming to school, we can probably bring that attitude when we find our own job someday.
The proper discipline will start today. We should not take away to us a virtue of being punctual. Being on time shows that we love our studies, we love what we do and most of all we love the people around us.

Rules. Life is full of rules. From the Ten Commandments of the Bible to the Constitution of each and every country, we are governed by rules.
Likewise, academic institutions enforce rules and regulations that the students are expected to abide by. This should have been an easy thing to do since it has been the fashion from the very start. Nevertheless, many are still reluctant in doing it.
It has been a mystery as to why students are having a difficult time in obeying the rules set by their respective schools. Is it because they have been tolerated to do it? Is it because they think it is cool to do that?
Jonalyn Estabaya
“Youth is the hope of our fatherland.” That is how Jose Rizal describe the youth in the future. But how can we trust youth if they commit absenteeism? Absent without valid reason. How can we sure that they know the value of education?
According to the teachers, family conflict is the first reason why the pupil commit absents. And it greatly affects the academic performance of the pupil.
1 out of 10 grade six pupils have a frequent absenteeism. Let’s commend the parents to support their children so much. But those parents who neglect their responsibility is an another business. Peer influence is another reason why the pupils do not listen to their parents.
Or is it because man is a naturaldeviant? Ironically, the answer to that mystery remains another mystery.
One of the most violated imperative is the one that has something to do with the uniform. Black leather shoes, slacks, white polo, color of the hair and makeups.
We are abiding these rules because we want to express our self. We are just doing our fashion statement. But we have to consider that there are rules and regulation that we need to follow.
We have to open our eyes and envisions that being a student is reflected to our school on how we follow the rules. We don’t need to be blinded.
We have to consider that there are rules and regulations that we need to follow. ” “

Some parents were surrendered to the behavior of their children. How can you give sympathy to the children if they can’t discipline their own child?
Teaching the pupils is not only the responsibility of teachers but also for the parents.
The school provides programs to cater the needs of pupils just to continue schooling.
Think of the people who finished their studies but have no jobs. And to the pupils who do not finish their studies will have difficulty also to find a job someday.
The world is our stage. We are born in a competitive world. So let us help each other to reach our goals. Let us all make ourselves to the top. It is truly a fulfilling emotion if each one of us is successful in our chosen fields of responsibility.

Some Filipinos are favor and some are not regarding the Reproductive Health Bill (RH Bill) by using contraceptives. A lot of women die because of pregnancies. It is due to less awareness of women on having an affair with men who don’t even have plans when women get pregnant.
For me, I am favor of using contraceptives because I believe that women should have the freedom of choice. By using contraceptives, many women can freely abort or stop getting pregnant if they don’t want to get pregnant.
Catholic Church is still against on this bill. They say that using contraceptives or aborting a child is like killing a baby God has given to them.
baby God has given to them. Many priests are against in this act and are really pursuing on encouraging Filipinos and our government leaders o stop this bill to be implemented.
The government implements this act because they want to decrease the number of population in this country. Over population causes many families to be jobless and mostly staying poor as they are.
So RH Bill should really be passed or approved by the government. It does many good advantages for us Filipinos, although it does have a lot of disadvantages, too. This is a way by the government to decrease the growing population. Still, even with or without this act, it’s in our hands to decide our own future.

COVER YOUR HEAD. Students practice the seriousness of the earthquake drill in preparation of “The Big One.”
| Luis Miguel Lucindo Municipal office in Calamba made an Earthquake Drill for the preparation of students in Calamba including San Juan ElemantarySchool(SJES).
Michael P. De Vale; coordinator on earthquake drill, says the drill is for the preparation and the safety of the students, so they can be prepared.
“We will do this kind of activity here in our school because we want to be ready and avoid on what happen in Visayas” also he added.
He also give precautionary measures to the students.

10 Disaster Preparedness Tips You Can Use Before anEarthquake
September is National Preparedness Month and, in celebration of this annual disaster readiness campaign, here are some tips to prepare before an earthquake..
1. Know the emergency numbers and contact details of the local fire department, police, hospitals and barangay officials.
2. Know the nearest evacuation area from your house.
3. Know the earthquake evacuation plan in our school or workplace.
4. Know how to evacuate infants, children, persons with disabilities or the elderly in your house.
5. Know the initial response during an earthquake (Duck-Cover-Hold).
6. Free the overhead shelves or cabinets from heavy objects that may injure people.
7. Strap or bolt to the walls or floor the heavy furniture, cupboards and other appliances.
8. Store food and drinking water for possible earthquakes.
9. Know if you are near from any bodies of water.
10. As a result of an earthquake, know if we are vulnerable to possible tsunamis.
However, participants in the Grade 3 quiz bee and jingle contest did not win. The theme of the year’s congress was “Pushing the Frontiers of Science through innovation and excellence.”
The congress also intends to strengthen skills of teachers in research and pedagogy. There are brackets for the contest. Video presentation was for the Grade 3 teachers. Sci-folio, research and Science Investigatory Project for Master Teachers .
“I am happy because we bag many awards in the science congress. Maybe this is the evidence that we can excel in the competitions like this.” Montalbo said.
“I will work hard to defend my place and make a name” Paggabao said.
The earthquake drill is done usually monthly so that the teachers and the pupils will have an idea on what will them going to do if there is really an earthquake
However, the Department of Education (DepEd) take survey in different schools in Calamba so they can know the preparedness of the families during, before and after the earthquake.
“Ginagawa rin natin itong drill para hindi rin mag-panic ang mga bata at para alam nila ang gagawin habang lumilindol,” De Vale said.
‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ promotes health for pupils
The Department of Education (DepEd) gave memorandum on having a ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ in each school which promotes healthy nutrition of the pupils because it the vegetables coming from the garden will be included in the feeding program.
vegetable garden
provides the school feeding program.
The city government joins the program through the Lingap Pang-Agrikultura project of City Mayor Justine Marc Chipeco and the Sangguniang Panlungsod . The City Agricultural Services Department distributed different seeds such as sili, pechay and mustasa to name some was given to each school to be planted in the school gulayan project.
San Juan ES uses the vegetables coming from the garden in their daily feeding of undernourished pupils. Mrs. Rubylou Oliveros, teacher assigned in the garden together with five pupils monitored daily the vegetables.
“Noong binisita ang garden ng mga tagamunisipyo sabi nila maganda daw pero kelangan pa ng pondo para mas maging maayos,” Oliveros said.
Meanwhile, the pupils assigned to monitor the garden improve it already by building fences. They said that the vegetables will be more safe from stray animals and to the children as well who play in the court every vacant periods .
Have you experience to have red eyes? It is an itchy feeling. You can experience discomfort, burning, gritty sensation, photophobia (sensitivity to light), pain, difficulty opening eyes after sleeping, eyelids stuck together after sleeping, watery discharge, soreness, runny nose, and sore throat. The lymph glands are sore (lymph glands are your body’s defensive filter, they are located behind the ears).
In San Juan ES, there are several pupils in the primary and intermediate grades who experienced the same ailment. They had experience that almost half of the class has sore eyes. Teachers advised them not to go in school for a week until they are not well. One of the Grade Six pupils, who experienced it, was Jasmin Joy Cielo. Her doctor gave her treatment and advised her to take a rest but she did not make an absent in class. “Parang may buhangin sa loob ng mata ko tapos paggising ko sa umaga mahirap imulat ang mata,” Cielo said. In her case, she said that she just rubbed her eyes and it triggers already for her eyes to sore.
The doctor told her that sore eyes can affect one or both eyes. The eyes may feel as if a foreign object is in them, or they may feel tired, heavy, and hard to keep open. A common cause of sore eyes is conjunctivitis or pink eye. Symptoms generally peak within three or four days and last up to two weeks.
Love your Eyes or Suffer from RED
Sore eyes can be caused by a variety of things. In most cases they are caused by staring at a computer screen or book for too long.
According to the experts, our eyes may be- come sore after a long day at work or if we have been deprived of sleep. An incorrect eyeglass pre- scription may also lead to sore eyes. Other causes may include airborne irritants such as chemicals, smoke, smog, animal dander, and pollen; contact lens wear; excessive rubbing of eyes; inflammation caused by allergens or infections; too much sun exposure; dry eyes and viral infections such as the common cold.
The best thing you can do if we have sore eyes is to seek medical attention. Catching an eye problem early can prevent further damage to your eyes. Ophthalmologist may prescribe an anti-inflammatory or antibiotic eye drops or ointment. Antiviral medications may also be in store. To relieve discomfort at home, we can try applying warm compresses to our eyes for five to ten minutes three times a day.
Additional steps we can take to reduce the soreness include getting more sleep at night, drinking plenty of water throughout the day, eating a well-balanced diet, avoiding rubbing our eyes and taking “eye breaks” from activities that may be causing eye strain.
In most cases sore eyes can be relieved with proper treatment of the underlying cause. Depending on the cause, it may be up to two weeks before you see any progress
S TARS ANYTIME
We usually see stars during nighttime. But is there a possibility to see them anytime of the day? Yes, maybe you have experienced it already in your eyes but you don’t know the reason why.
A phosphene is a phenomenon characterized by the experience of seeing light without light actually entering the eye. The word phosphene comes from the Greek words phos (light) and phainein (to show). Phosphenes that is induced by movement or sound are often associated with optic neuritis.
Phosphenes can be directly induced by mechanical, electrical, or magnetic stimulation of the retina or visual cortex as well as by random firing of cells in the visual system. Phosphenes have also been reported by meditators commonly called nimitta, people who go for long periods without visual stimulation.
The most common phosphenes are pressure phosphenes, caused by rubbing the closed eyes. They have been known since long time ago and described by the Greeks. The pressure mechanically stimulates the cells of the retina. Experiences include a darkening of the visual field that moves against the rubbing, a diffuse colored patch that also moves against the rubbing, a scintillating and ever-changing and deforming light grid with occasional dark spots and a sparse field of intense blue points of light.
Pressure phosphenes can persist briefly after the rubbing stops and the eyes are opened, allowing the phosphenes to be seen on the visual scene.
Another common phosphene is "seeing stars", from a sneeze, laughter, a heavy and deep cough, blowing of the nose, a blow on the head or low blood pressure (such as on standing up too quickly or prior to fainting). It is possible these involve some mechanical stimulation of the retina, but they may also involve mechanical and metabolic, stimulation of neurons of the visual cortex or of other parts of the visual system.
Most vision researchers believe that phosphenes result from the normal activity of the visual system after stimulation of one of its parts from some stimulus other than light. Whatever fantastic things happen to us everyday. We should take care our body system most especially our eyes. It is the ‘window of our soul.
Benefits of breastfeeding
| Mary Princess Yvon PiamonteJuly celebrates the Nutrition Month with the theme “Timbang Iwasto sa Tamang Nutrisyon at Ehersisyo”.
A good nutrition starts from the milk given by our mothers. Here are some benefits of breast-feeding from the internet which helps young ones to start for a good nutrition.
Science has proved that breast- fed babies have a healthier start in life. Human milk contains balance of nutrients that closely matches infant requirements for brain development, growth and a healthy immune system. Human milk contains immunologic agents and other compounds that act against viruses, bacteria and parasites. Since an infant’s immune system is not fully developed until age 2, human milk provides distinct advantage over formula.
It also provides protection against the germs that a baby or a mother carry.
But infants aren’t the only ones who benefit from breast-feeding. Mothers, too, are the recipients of many positive hormonal and physical effects.
Breast-feeding releases a hormone in a woman’s body that causes her uterus to return to its normal size and shape more quickly and reduces blood loss after delivery. With these benefits ,a motherhood once engaged in breastfeeding.

Pedophile, I don’t know . ?
Pedophile is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to children, generally age 11 years or younger. Some people make fun of it even though they don't know what really is it. A study has been made and conclude facts which opens the perception of the pedophiles.
These are the five facts you don't know. by Robert Evans, David Prescott, Dr. James Cantor
5. Not All Pedophiles MolestChildren.
One of the common misconception of all people. They jump into conclusions that it is an act of child abuse but it is somehow a rare reality but not all pedophile is attracted only to children but they can be into adults too but very unlikely with the attraction to children.
4. Society Has No Idea What to Do With NonOffendingPedophiles
This misconception is nonsense. why would people must over think about pedophile? If they will do wrong or right. Yes some of them are really abusive but have you ever overlook to oth- ers that are not?
3. Society Doesn't Recognize It as an Illness ... Even Though Science Does.
Do you know this illness? Pedophilia is the term for this illness. Many of us are really not knowledgeable about the illness but only those people who study human behaviors or the psychiatrists.
2. There Are Supposedly Victimless Forms of Child Pornography ... But the Law Has No Idea How to Deal With Them.
There are many kinds of programs for these kind of acts, but do they accommodate it? No. Why? because they prefer to earn than save lives of this children.
1. The law prevents treatment of pedophiles ... until it's toolate.
If the law will not allow to treat them? then who will strive against the law? incidents about these acts will definitely lessen there records in time.

perfectly. It was quick.” He himself was even amazed on how his composition turned out.
Now let’s take a closer look at the lyrics and melody. The song’s melody is shapely and memorable, and Dave Barnes did not make use of highfalutin words in making the lyrics yet he was able to make it catchy and something that everyone could relate on, specially the lyrics, I” didn't have a prayer, didn't have a clue then out of the blue, God gave me you...” It was like every single word in this song was written for us, designed to make us fall in love, made to flashback those moments when we were still madly in love with our first love.
This song had really become the nation’s number one track not just because this is the theme song of ALDUB but because this song all made us feel like we’re on cloud 9. Made us believe that we could soar high and made us feel that we could do anything with love. Just like the love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, this song was truly made in heaven.

Social Networks 101
|Marilyn MontalboPhoto credit: mymovieworldcoolman0304.blogspot.com
This movie dramatizing the life of Felix Manalo; first executive minister of Iglesia Ni Cristo and his peculiarities.
Social Network offers a great deal of escaping the monotony of everyday life. It also a great way to stay connected to the world. But social network has its advantages and disadvantages that affect on our society but mostly to the students. Social Network is the use of internet-based social programs to connect with families, friends, classmates and even with random people who they met on social media. We can say social network is one of the best invention created by mankind. Through this we can communicate easily even at long distance, it can help teenagers be friendly anytime and anywhere and help student to acquired knowledge. But, most of the student nowadays use social network as a way of communication mostly with their friends and colleagues. It is an advantage of using social network but slowly verbal communications is being forgotten. Here are some of the advantages, it can bring people together, through group chat people can connect with each other and build some bond, literacy on technological advancement because using computer and other modern technologies we can grasp some information. And the most important advantage of social network is it can be a breadth of knowledge for students because they can have a better access on our society, broader opinions and world views and be updated on everything. But if there are advantages of using it, there are also disadvantages. The first disadvantage of social network is, it is being a distraction for studying because students get addicted to social networking websites and they get distrait by using it and tend to forget they’re school works that leads to fail their academics. Some of the other disadvantages are health problems for using it until midnight that cause lack of sleep, it also cause lack of spending time with their families because they use their time on updating their facebook and retweet what’s on trend on twitter. And the most disadvantage part of using social network is the loss of sense of privacy and it can be very dangerous mainly for the students because they put all their personal information on their SNS account that can be easily track by strangers and use for their own satisfaction. So the advantages and disadvantages of using social network listed above, we can say that it really has a broad range of concern for the students and in our society.
Social network can be very helpful if we know how to use it properly and we know the risk of using it. Student should be aware of the positive and negative effects brought by social network so they can use it accordingly on what they desire. So to all the students, use social network as much as you want as long as you know the effects and what you can get from using it and if it is still healthy on your lifestyle and cannot ruin your studies. Remember “We don’t have a choice on whether we do social media; the question is how well we do it.” –Erik Qualman.
It is a big place and I am really not sure how long it has been since. I got so engaged checking on all the available sizes, designs and innovative details of those kitchen wares before I realized I got time warp.
So, what now? Thinking of how and why definitely would not matter at this point. The content of this trolley basket which is the reason I am here on the first place now lost its importance. I can even just leave it to hasten my pace. My mind is telling me to run and hurry up. But somehow for a known reason, I can feel my heart calm and steady. It is just my conscious mind giving me the pressure of what needs to be done.
Ok, so I am now at the Customer Service/Information Counter. First step is done. well, that is it! There and seated patiently. His conversation with a female counter clerk seems to have been cut as he had noticeably glanced at me. The lady then blurted out: “Ma’am, anak nyo po?” Oh, yes! That is my son and obviously I lost sight of him somewhere in that supermarket. Yet, knowing that he knows what to do did not set me to panic.
We, mothers are programmed to worry about our children in all aspects. We generally want them to be safe so they can live life to the fullest. Yet somehow, worry can be contained if we are confident that they can manage to make it on their own.
I was told then that my son approached them at the counter and said: “My Mom is lost”. And even before they can react, he started telling them my name. He told them the name of his Dad, his Grandparent’s and our address complete with our contact numbers. They said, if I didn’t show up then they are about to call our home and bring my kid there. Because my son, even said they just have to accompany him to ride the jeepney and he will show them the place.
It made me smile. Not with the funny idea that “I am the one lost” but with the pride that he had done exactly what we have told them to do in such cases.
Information is very crucial. It is basic to awareness and preparation. I am glad that we have communicated then with our kids about such scenarios. Yet, we still need to let them know more as life is continuing and there are always situations they need be ready of. Being ready in every situation should be everyone’s pressing concern. This fact has always been grabbed by our mundane world.
What are the things or situations that we need to be ready of? Well, we really need to sit and make a list of it. It seems easy to do but seriously doing it takes an effort. I honestly end up not doing it most of a time. So, when my kids went home one day giving me this paper to answer I was pulled back to the consciousness of preparedness.
Thank God! The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued DO 27, s. 2015. The questionnaire on my hand is one of the highlights of the school’s activities to promote family earthquake preparedness. I truly appreciate this DepEd Program on Disaster Awareness and Preparation. I felt the continuing effort they are making for the learners and teachers. I may not anymore in school like my kids but I am still included as a learner. Every questions I tried to answer heightens my realization and adds desire to work on it. It is indeed true that everyone needs to be involved with the preparation of emergencies such as earthquake. Our earth is aging and nature has its way of renewing life. We either integrate our lives with its processes or be caught by grief and devastation of its blow.
One thing I found out is that, disaster is always sudden and surely disrupts life. We can definitely work to prevent it but we can also be prepared for it at the same time. If we choose to live then we need to choose living it right and how to survive our wrong choices. Since, disaster can be a product of human mistakes as well.
Often, it is not just a single event. Our human follies to nature can be various so, it may result to a string of consequences. Not just earthquakes. There can be volcanic eruption, floods, tsunamis, hurricanes and the list can go on. Again our information gained can be used to make us aware of it cause and be prepared. Each disaster is unique. So, we need to seriously imagine possible hazards and how we can go around it. If it will surely harm us, how can we protect ourselves to lessen the damage?
Mother Nature’s goal is to continue harmony and communing life. What we are preparing for is also reviving our true humanity. Dealing with our safety will make us open our eyes and reflect on things we have done and what we should be doing. It will make us think right and do better. It will move us to reach out and connect. I believe, this is what we should all be trying to do. Let us now strive with the leading we are receiving and start be a community. Increase the level of our awareness and seek the right information. Strong individuals, united families and able communities, standing together can build a wall to prevent, stop and combat catastrophes.
This awareness may cause us worries and may even not make us sleep at night. But don’t fret! I started with answering the questions given by the school and build a plan out of it. I was just praying then for clear cut ways to safety and answers are coming now. I am confident that continuing effort will ensure the safety of my children in different natural or man-made risks be in school, at home or anywhere.
Uncle? Who? What?... Uncle Roy’s Home of Super Burger
| Arlinda G. LucindoTravelling to Crossing, Calamba I have noticed a vacant front yard with a tarpaulin. Hmmn...Looks like just an ordinary space. It’s along barangay San Juan leading to the heart of the city, where a number of food establishment appears more attractive. It was 10:00 am in the morning then and the house within the property seem to have no one inside. As we passed along, the tricycle driver where I am riding asked: “Ma’am, nakakain na kayo dyan?”(Ma’am, have you eaten there?) Oh! The tarpaulin indeed states “Home of the Super Burger”. Yet it still doesn’t look like a restaurant to me. So, I just brush aside the question. But the driver continued, “Super sarap po dyan. Pinipilahan po. Kami ngang tricycle drivers na madalas dyan minsan di na makakain dahil maghihintay ka pa sa dami ng tao” (It’s very delicious. People are lining up just to eat. Even us, tricycle drivers who used to eat there now needs to wait to be served) Is it really? My curiosity was tickled. I just wondered because I am not seeing what he said. So, I could care less. I went along my day.
But, by 8:00 pm upon going home I was astonished. I passed by the same place and what seem to be deserted in the morning is now over flowing with people. I saw tables in full and standing people are patiently waiting to occupy one. Even the ones standing outside seem not to mind there wait.
Wow! It’s a stunning sight in such a place.
The place is gaining popularity and a lot of reviews are posted in the internet about it. But I stopped wondering now. After several times of dining and knowing the owner personally, I can say the place has “it” to stay in business. Forget about why. Because, the dining experience is so satisfying that you would just end up hanging with the enjoyment and waiting to come back again. And you would definitely do, because their prices are so affordable you don’t have to save much or wait for the next pay check. It is a want that you can surely add within your means.
The place is so accommodating that commoners can feel served first class with the food even if one waited in line or just ate standing. For one thing, Roy its owner would normally come to your table for a little chat just to make sure you are ok with the food and service.
Yes. Roy who is too young to be pictured an uncle, is not fat and bearded as the place’s name would make you imagine. He is not a foreigner or the like. In fact, he is very much from our very own Calamba, Laguna. And although he had come up with this American popularpresented in a New York manner, his aim is to “stuff the people of Calamba with the finest fresh ingredients I can find.” That is even if he goes as far as Davao City to find one. He normally approaches you with a smile and opens up a conversation with: “Is it your first time or third to dine here?”, “Sorry for the long wait”, “Hope we have serve you right” and variation of the likes. This guy is not just a good chef and a health advocate but is also a gem of customer service. Need not to add his being a good employer which is one of the pillars of the place.
The staff started with nephews and nieces whose ages are more like of cousins to him. Even his Aunt and Uncle would come out of their house to check on how to help around. Then family friends later joined the pool of workers. They serve with their casual decent house clothes yet the cleanliness of how they manage to get your order, prepare the food and wait on your table is very organized. Everyone starts to be busy after lunch, preparing the place. Then by 4:00 pm-voila! The entrance is open and the sight of activities begins. In less than 5 minutes you would see all the tables taken and it won’t take long that a number or two guests would be standing outside for a chance to get a space.
At the rate of how the business is running, it seems that every corner of the place is screaming for expansion. But obviously, Uncle Roy wants to keep it low. More than earning, it intends to please and satisfy.
Yes, Uncle Roy wants to serve even to customers outside Calamba but for now, they want the entire Barangay San Juan, City of Calamba down to entire province Laguna to come and meet them. It looks like a clear sky but right now it is like a filthy swamp. Why? What happen to this gem which became rust?
An Ode to a Lonely Hearted Rio
| Isabel TejadaIt is one of the largest rivers in Laguna. In Calamba, it is the largest river in the city. I’ve learned that information in our HEKASI class which tackles about Calamba History. San Juan River is a major source of food and livelihood for many of the residents in the vicinity. It is historically, economically and ecologically significant to the people living along its shoreline.
According to the history, before the Spanish come, people decided to clean the image of San Juan Evangelista in the river. They did not know that the image is the patron of Tanauan, Batangas. After the image was cleaned a strong typhoon came. Tall trees were uprooted. Houses were damaged.
Days followed and the people came to decide that the place itself will be named as ‘San Juan’ in honor to the image. Residents then give importance to the river and the river also gives resources to them. There are fishes and other creatures which provide the villagers in their day to day living.
But through the fast changing lifestyle, it is slowly dying from industrial and household pollution. Today, some of the garbage being found in the river came from the mountains but most often it came from the nearby household. Once a month, the river was being cleaned but only sometimes.
I experience to see some fishermen trying to catch fish in the river early morning. They are positioned over the bridge handling their fishing rods hoping to catch. Some of them are successful.
I can’t imagine if this river will be lost in our landmark in San Juan because of the pollution. Today I can see a rip rap on its side, I think therefore that the barangay or the city government itself was trying to save the river.
As you a young generation, we are hoping that the river will surely be save. It is a landmark which we can call as our ‘own’. Let’s help to protect it and to be saved.

Playing is fun. It can make us perspire and laugh. A big decision will set unto us. Are we choosing computer games, physical sports or ‘laro ng lahi’?
According to the survey, our teachers in their generation are loves to play also. They usually play laro ng lahi such as patintero, Chinese garter, piko and luksong lubid. Some of these games are continuously disappearing today.
We believe that laro ng lahi is better than computer games because it can exercise our minds and body. It is really nice to play under the heat of the sun and meet other friends. There are also some games to choose like playing basketball, badminton, tennis and other outdoor games.
We can conclude that playing computer games is not a good habit. It makes us unhealthy for the screen’s radiation can affect our eyes. Some believe that sitting for hours is like smoking. Other children skip their meals because they are hook in front of the screen. Parents need to set time for their children to play computer games.
We should balance our time to rest and play. We should not do away to think our health because Health is Wealth. Whatever we do it will affect us.
