San Juan Brgy. Capt. Jun Vergara announced first P5.4M Housing Project in Calamba City granted to

Bagong Silang.

First in Calamba City

Mayor Justin Marc SB. Chipeco, granted more than 3,000 sq. m. land to the residents of Sitio Bagong Silang, San Juan, Calamba City last July which aims for the informal settlers to have a welllived place.

In an interview, Gregorio “Jun” Vergara, Jr., Brgy. Captain, said that 77 registered families are recently living in the said sitio and some resides there for almost 40 decades already.

“May mga pamilya nang nagtayo ng mga bahay at nanirahan sa sitio na yun, nangangamba kami na darating ang araw papalayasin na sila kaya gumawa kami ng paraan dahil maaapektuhan din ang barangay sa problema na yan,” Vergara said.

Elvie Arambulo owned the land and she planned to sell it to the City Housing and Settlements Department which leads the barangay to request Mayor

Chipeco to grant the said lot to the informal settlers.

Fortunately, Chipeco approved Vergara’s request and buy the land for P5.4 million pesos.

The beneficiaries will pay monthly bill depending on the square meter lot covered by their house compound.

“More or less P300 ang babayaran nila every month depende sa kung gaano kalawak ang lupang sakop nila,” Vergara said. He also added that maintaining family planning will greatly help the residents to live a more descent lives.

Meanwhile, Mariolito Manuel, Housing and Homesite Regulation Officer IV, said that the land was bought by the city hall in order to lessen informal settlers not only in Calamba City but also in the country.

Dengue alarms San Juan residents

Barangay San Juan was alarmed due to many dengue reports last July which leads to request the City Health Office to conduct misting all over the barangay and in the San Juan ElementarySchool(SJES).

Ms. Marilou Pecho Jovero, Brgy. Midwife took the initiative to request the City Health Office to do the misting to prevent spreading of the dengue in Brgy. San Juan.

In an interview, Celia Barahil, Barangay Secretary said that her granddaughter experienced a dengue fever but they are not sure if it was taken from their house or from her granddaughter’s school.

Meanwhile, classes in SJES were cut at 3:00 PM to give way for the misting of classrooms including the canteen, Guidance Office/Clinic and the school yard.

“Natapos namin sa loob ng dalawang araw ang misting dito sa San Juan.” Enric G. Pascual, Sanitation Inspector said.

However, during the misting, Grade Two pupils were running after the fumigator men which made Ms. Jasmine L. Martirez, one of the Grade Two teachers, stopped them from running because it might cause an accident.

‘Modus Operandi’ scams 2 SJES pupils

In a separate incident, mobile phones were snatched in two San Juan Elementary School (SJES) pupils by a certain “Vince” who uses Mr. Leonardo Bello’s name just to do the ‘modus operandi’.

“Makalipas ang ilang minuto, pumunta kami ng suspect sa Alfamart at doon itinakbo ang cellphone ko at cellphone ng kaklase ko. Pilitin ko mang habulin ay hindi ko talaga naabutan sa kanto ng Blumentrit dito sa San Juan,” Cuerdo said.

According to John Joshua Cañedo, the same suspect told him that he would just borrow Joshua’s phone to call Mr. Bello in order to negotiate about Volleyball game. Unfortunately, “Vince” got his cellphone without knowing that his classmate Cuerdo was already victimized.

Also, Mr. Bello, during a Flag Ceremony reminded the whole school to be alert of the ‘modus operandi’ done by certain persons who took advantage to use teacher’s names just to do the crimes.

TRAINING FOR EMERGENCY. Pupils of San Juan

SJES, Big One’ not ready

Dangerous covered court of San Juan Elementary School (SJES) still urges as evacuation site for pupils and teachers after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake felt which records Lian, Batangas being the epicenter.

Barangay Quick Response Team (BQRT) always leads SJES in Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drills to heightened readiness on earthquake although until now it has no safe place for the evacuation center due to its location.

In an interview, Mr. Michael P. De Vale, School Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (SDRRMC) Coordinator, said that he is willing to put a passageway from school to their residence area in order to maximize the open space in their house for the evacuation site in case of earthquake.

“Kung ako ang tatanungin, willing kaming butasan ang pader sa pagitan

P25K budget awaits drainage repair

Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA) initiates Mr. and Ms. United Nations 2017 to allocate budget for the drainage repair in San Juan Elementary School (SJES).

Mrs. Adelita Piamonte, PTA President, said that flood in the covered court was the main problem of SJES for many years which leads the association to allot budget coming from the Mr. and Ms. United Nations (UN) 2017.

Unfortunately, there are still P191, 000 Cash on Hand based on the final counting and still looking for another way to meet the inadequate amount.

“Nagiging problema ng bata ang paglusong sa baha tuwing uwian at ito din ang nagsisilbing evacuation site tuwing babahain ang mga residente ng barangay San Juan,” Piamonte said.

For the past two years, PTA Officers had planned already to focus on how to solve the flood in the school but no enough budget was available. Thus, the association made ways in order to settle the problem.

The drainage construction costs more or less P250, 000.00. Parents and teachers helped each other by having “Fund Raising for a Cause” which is the Mr. & Ms. UN.

Meanwhile, Mr. Boyet Ong, Filipino Chinese who owned a part of the lot, is willing to build the drainage system but he wants to assure that his commercial establishment will not be damaged.

“Hindi pa man nasisimulan ang proyekto ay lubos na ang aming pasasalamat sa lahat ng magulang na handang sumoporta sa lahat ng programa na isinasagawa ng pamunuan ng PTA.” Piamonte added.

ng school at bahay namin upang gawing evacuation site ang natitirang area dahil wala talagang secure na lugar para sa ating lahat dito sa school,” De Vale said.

It’s been two years already since SJES execute earthquake drills but still the problem on evacuation site was not addressed.

Meanwhile, Danilo Amparo, Brgy. Councilor, suggested that the school should set a drill wherein parents will participate so that they will know also what to do in case they will fetch their children during an earthquake.

Amparo also added that there should be an alarm to reach the building as one of the classes got late to go down during the drill because they did not hear the bell.

Still today, the Sangguniang Barangay finds means to address the problem about the safe evacuation area of SJES for the preparation for the Big One.

In an interview, Piamonte said that she was very happy for the support given to her by the parents of SJES in electing her as Parent Teacher Association (PTA) President of SJES for three consecutive years.

“Masayang-masaya ako dahil sa suporta ng mga magulang at mga guro kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila,” Piamonte said.

Meanwhile, Piamonte leads the PTA to accomplish several projects this school year. The association plans to build good water drainage, parents’ waiting area outside the school gate and stainless name of SJES.

“Lahat ng physical improvements ng ating paaralan ay matutugunan dahil sa suporta ng bawat isa,” one of the PTA officers said.

Consequently, Piamonte together with the other officers always showed support in any means just to improve the school facilities and other things needed by the pupils.

Brgy. San Juan finds difficulty to control minors in stealing

Several times children were caught stealing in Alfamart convenient store endorsed to the barangay who took the necessary action to address the issue.

Gregorio Vergara, Brgy. Captain, said that despite of the reminders they give to the children and teenagers who caught shoplifting, they still go back and do the stealing again.

“Palagi naming sinasabihan ang mga batang nahuhuli subalit paulit-ulit nilang ginagawa ito kaya nahihirapan kami dahil hindi nakikiisa ang mga magulang at hindi mo naman pwedeng saktan ang mga bata,” Vergara said.

Meanwhile, former SJES pupil was one of the minors caught stealing chocolate in Alfamart San Juan.

In an interview, King Michael D. Mallari, Shipping Leader of Alfamart in San Juan, admitted that one of the caught children who steals in their convenient store was the former San Juan ES pupil.

“Yung isa po sa nahuling bata dito na kumuha ng chocolate ay dati ninyong estudyante,” Mallari said. He also added that chocolates were the number one product stolen because its size was small enough to escape from the store.

The goods being stolen was charge to the children but most of the time Alfamart retrieve the said product from the children.

The said convenient store was provided by CCTVs but they cannot monitor 24/7 due to lack of security personnel. They are planning to have strict securities in the store.

She was also an EPS (Education Program Supervisor) in EsP (Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao).

“Hindi kasama sa KRA (Key Result Area) ko ang trabaho na maging punung guro pero ginagawa ko ito dahil mahal ko ang trabaho ko.”

Two days was allotted for her to manage SJES but unfortunately, due to her hectic schedule she sometimes doesn’t have time to visit the school.

However, Terones see to it that when she is in SJES, it is a worthy day for her to accomplish many things.

Going round the campus, visiting classrooms are some of her activities. She doesn’t neglect also to make suggestions even in smallest details of things she noticed.

She is a woman of “praise.” She loves to appreciate small things done by teachers and pupils.

During Flag Ceremony, she always loves to talk to the pupils and teachers imparting them reminders and good thoughts to ponder.

“Hindi kasama sa KRA (Key Result Area) ko ang trabaho na maging punung guro pero ginagawa ko ito dahil mahal ko ang trabaho ko.” This was an inspirational quote once said by Ma’am Terones.

Overload triggers electric meter to explode

Fear from the pupils and teachers were the emotion felt when an incident of electric meter explosion happened in San Juan Elementary School (SJES).

Due to overload electrical appliances, electric meter in SJES exploded which made the pupils and teachers panic and went down to the covered court to convene.

“Nagulat ako nung marinig kong may pumutok habang nasa office ako kausap ni Sir Joel Libranda; MAPEH-EPS, Education Supervisor kasi akala ko kung ano, ‘yun pala ay metro ng kuryente natin na nasa labas ng Principal Office,” Mrs. Marilyn Montalbo said.

The main switch was turned off while the barangay rescued immediately and called the Meralco as well as the Bureau of Fire Protection who promptly went to the school.

Meanwhile, Meralco adviced SJES to under load the appliances being used so that no further incidents will happen.

“Kailangan ay bawasan natin ang ginagamit nating mga electric fan sa bawat classroom at kung pwede yung nasa canteen lang na water dispenser ang gamitin natin,” one of the teachers said. However, SJES authorities fix the electric meter immediately.

Oplan Pagandahan ng Silid-Aralan, not budget friendly

P25K

budget for unusable lab

More or less P25, 000 was spent in building the new computer laboratory to enhance the continuous improvement process in education but it was not functioning for two years due to AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) explosions and obsolete software.

According to Mrs. Digna C. Tolentino, former ICT (Information Communication Technology) Coordinator, the computer laboratory was only functional for about one year however, since 2016, it was not functioning anymore.

“Pito ang gumagana noong mga computer kasama ang server tapos Windows XP pa ang naka-install doon kaya in-upgrade ko ng Windows 7 pero pumutok ang tatlong AVRs kaya di na nagagamit ngayon ang computer laboratory,” Tolentino said. The ceiling and walls were leaking that’s why floors become wet during heavy rains, she added.

Considering the situation of the pupils, most of them do not own a computer unit in their house that’s why they assume that the ComLab will greatly help them in studies but unfortunately it doesn’t.

Meanwhile, the report was already addressed to the Division Office and an Information Technology Officer should be consulted to fix it functional.

More or less P10K allotted to ‘Oplan Pagandahan ng Silid –aralan Contest’ which aims to develop eco-friendly and conducive classrooms for the learners within the Division of Calamba City

Ms. Jasmine Martirez, one of the Grade Two class advisers and who has the most amount spent in all classrooms, said that she spent more or less P10, 000 in improving and beautification of her classroom coming from her own pocket.

“Magastos ang magpaganda ng room lalo na pag galing sa sariling bulsa ‘yun nga lang gaganda naman talaga ang classroom mo,” Martirez said.

Meanwhile, pupils, parents and teachers helped each other in cleaning the whole school site. Some parents volunteer

themselves to repaint, repair and restructure the rooms while others give financial donations.

“May nira-rush nga po akong kurtina ng classroom natin para bago naman,” Mrs. Del Rosario said.

Mrs. Adelita Piamonte, PTA President said that the cleaning program must be done so that our school will look presentable and pupils will have a better learning atmosphere.

However, teachers said that they can provide human power in ‘Oplan Pagandahan ng Paaralan’ but they suggested to provide the said program an enough fund.

“Ang contest ay maganda pero masakit sa bulsa,” most of the faculty members said.

City DSWD alerts 98% broken families to commit offense

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) views serious reports about children included in the list of Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) who commits serious offenses in the community including robbery.

According to, Elena Par, Calamba City Registered Social Worker, 98% of the children with broken families took the serious misconduct in the community which made the city DSWD Office brought out the children in Brgy. San Jose where there was a center to rehabilitate them.

“Karaniwan sa mga batang gumagawa ng hindi maganda ay mga broken families,” Par said. She also explained that parents of the offenders were also being counseled by the DSWD.

Par added that robbery is rampant among

teenagers and children because they were small enough to caught easily by the authorities. Little children can easily get into holes of windows and easily run to escape.

However, DSWD admitted that they learned from the rehabilitation center where a 17-year-old boy happened to kill a certain person because of some reasons.

“Nakaka-alarma talaga ang mga kabataan ngayon sa mga nakikita nilang mga nangyayari sa paligid,” Mrs. Estabaya, one of the teachers said. She also added that parents have really a great role in good upbringing of their children.

Meanwhile, DSWD said that cases of minors were due to command of adults to commit a certain offense. Because of this, Par admitted that she is in favor to lower the age of juvenile delinquency.

Grade VI pupils bring deadly weapon

Two Grade Six pupils were brought to the Guidance Office after confiscating the deadly weapons brought to the school unintentionally.

Mrs. Marilyn P. Montalbo, Teacher Counselor, investigated the case where the two pupils together with their class adviser and parent explained the true story behind the incident.

“May nagbigay lang po sa akin doon sa Crossing ng ballpen na ito hindi ko po siya binili, hindi ko po sinasadyang dalhin yan dito sa school kaya lang naiwan po sa bag kong dala noong nasa Crossing kaya po kinuha ko at ipinakita sa kaklase ko,” one of the pupils said.

Meanwhile, Montalbo explained to the children that bringing a deadly weapon is one of the major offenses in the Student’s Handbook (Under Chapter 3 of DECS Service Manual 2000, the school has the authority to maintain school discipline: #10 major offense- Carrying and concealing deadly weapons).

She also added the risk of bringing such weapon in school because it might cause trouble even if it is not intentional.

The children promise not to bring any unnecessary thing in school while the parents assure to follow-up his son.

Mayor Chipeco: “Epektibo ang sistema sa Anti-Red Tape”

Blue Certification award from the Office of the Ombudsman granted Calamba City after proving the effective Anti Red Tape in the CityOffice.

In a letter during the Second Quarter Barangay Assembly in San Juan, Mariz F. Estologa, Executive Assistance II, read the letter about the accomplishments done by the City Office wherein Calamba receives a Blue Certification from the Office of the Ombudsman in complying the Anti Red Tape Act.

Mayor Justin Marc SB. Chipeco announced the ongoing DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) National Validation as Calamba City becomes one of the cities who positively complies the

National Transparency and Accountability of the government.

Chipeco said that in four years of his governance, he was really glad to accomplish many things.

After the suspended Barangay Election on October 23, San Juan ES still pursue to elect the new set of SPG (Supreme Pupil Government) on February which aims to continue governing the pupils in the said school.

In a survey, Alyssa Hyanna Sy, one of the Grade V pupils who will compete in the election, got the highest votes for SPG presidency from the intermediate levels.

“Masaya ako sa naging resulta ng survey pero ‘di ako dapat maging kampante dahil medyo malayo pa ang election, marami pang pwedeng magbago,” Sy explained.

However, Mrs. Rochelle A. Marasigan, SPG Adviser, told that she expects to have again a well-honest SPG election comes March.

Grades Three to Five pupils will be the one who will vote for the next years’ SPG officers to take lead for the upcoming projects governing pupils.

Meanwhile, Elaiza Mae Ambrocio got the least votes in the SPG presidency survey which made her not to fear because she still believes that she has the chance for the said election.

Unworthy Laboratory

Fast changing milieu brought change to the educational system of the country where computers are one of the needed resources for learning. San Juan Elementary School’s (SJES) computer laboratory exists but it is not functional for two years already.

We believe that the school doesn’t give priority to fixing the leaking walls during rainy days, obsolete computer software, and the exploded AVRs (Automatic Voltage Regulators).

It has been two years already when P25K budget allotted to build the computer laboratory between the two classrooms of Grade Five and Grade Six which only maximize the area.

According to Mrs. Digna C. Tolentino, former ICT Coordinator, only seven computer units were functioning. The software is only Windows XP that’s why Tolentino upgrades it to Windows 7 but another problem arises when three AVRs exploded. The ceiling and walls were leaking that’s why floors become wet during heavy rains. Is this the kind of ComLab the SJES want to offer to the pupils? What kind of learning the pupils will have?

Considering the situation of the SJES pupils, most of them do not own a computer unit in their house that’s why they assume that the ComLab will greatly help them in studies but unfortunately, it doesn’t.

The pupils do not have the chance to utilize the computer units during Computer subjects. They just assume to use it while taking the chance to use the personal laptops of the subject teachers. Be compassionate to the learners as well as to the personal possessions of our teachers!

Meanwhile, Mrs. Jonalyn Estabaya also commented that since the ComLab was built, their classroom has an unfavorable ambiance already because no air passes anymore to the side windows.

One problem brings another problem. We believe in the saying “the end does not justify the means.”

Leaking walls during rainy days, obsolete computer software and the exploded AVRs (Automatic Voltage Regulators) brings unfairness to learnings.

The report should be addressed immediately to the Division Office so that Information Technology Officers should be consulted to fix and make ComLab functional.

Let us not practice the ‘ningas cogon’ attitude especially in dealing with our learners because the simple thing we did not give to them is a big injustice to their lives.

"Kung may maidudulot ng mabuti ang aking pagkakamali sana ay mabuksan ito ng maraming pinto sa pagtalakay sa isyu na ito-tungkol sa depression."

Dear Editor,

Oftentimes our covered court became dirty because of the pupils who did not know HOW AND WHERE to throw the garbage properly. The canals became clogged because of the plastics and other things. The Grade Five and Six pupils were assigned to clean the court everyday and we are also doing our part to do so. Sometimes we find difficulty in cleaning because of this never ending garbage. Some pupils also were playing while we are cleaning so it causes destruction for us and we cannot accomplish early what we do. We hope that you can find way to solve the problem.

Thank you and more power to the staff!

Yours truly, Hazel P. Asis, Grade VI

Dear Hazel,

Thank you for your concern in our school. The Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) can surely lead to address that problem. But the solution will not take place if each and everyone will not cooperate to solve about the proper garbage disposal. The teachers also can do their part to remind each class about it. I hope you will be more cooperative to see the problems in our school.

Thank you.

Missing: Identification

One of the existing problems in San Juan ES is the regular wearing of Identification Cards (IDs) of pupils. The school IDs were given to the pupils last July. It has been a month already yet pupils still forgot to wear it everyday.

We believe that that the pupils should really wear their IDs because it is a part of their uniform.

FAIR AND SQUARE

proud that she is a pupil of San Juan ES.

Why do some pupils always neglect to wear their IDS? Aren’t they proud of themselves? Aren’t they proud of the school?

“ We know that teachers always keep on reminding them. But some pupils ignore it. ”

The school is a training ground of the children on how to become responsible and disciplined individuals someday. Just like in companies, when you enter such institution you need to present your ID. You will see on the entrance the sign: “NO ID, NO ENTRY.” This is also true to shuttle buses, you will see the sign: “NO ID, NO RIDE.” That’s why wearing an ID is a very important thing to do.

Because of IDs, people can identify us. We can show our sense of identity. You can also take pride to where school you are studying, to where company you are working, to where country you came from.

According to Kim B. Fajardo, Grade Six pupil, she is happy when she wears the ID because it makes her proud that she is a pupil of San

Digital Laziness

As we can see, our technologies are getting even more advanced. A lot of new gadgets have been imported in our country for almost every year. But can all advanced technology teach us good?

Life is a lot easier when digital literacy occurred. Because of those cellphones, tablets, telephones and more, we are able to talk to persons from a distance. Computers make student’s assignments easier to answer and find through the internet. Meanings can be found in the web instead of finding it hardly in the dictionary. Still, because of us being used to these things, some are getting the habit of being lazy.

Being used to computers made us even lazier. WHY? Instead of reading books for research, we would just search it to the Internet. Instead of using our own handwriting in assignments, we would just type with the help

We know that teachers always keep on reminding them. But some pupils ignore it. We would like to salute pupils who religiously wear their ID. But to those who do not, we are requesting to do so.

In an interview, Nestor Sasaban, Grade Six pupil said that he just keep his ID on his bag. He always brings it but he doesn’t want to wear it without any reason. Is his answer acceptable? Of course no!

Maybe for some, this issue is not a big deal but for us it is! Small things like this can make a difference someday.

We are appealing to the teachers as well as the parents to have a never ending patience to remind their pupils or children to wear the IDs. We also want to see a heightened responsibility in the Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) Officers to call the attention of assuming deaf pupils.

Sorry not sorry

of the computer. Instead of finding hard words in the dictionary we would just search it too in the internet.

Even in our household chores. There’s the vacuum cleaner in replacement for the broom. The dishwasher so we would be not tired of washing the dishes. We use mixers instead of mixing it using our own strength. We use stoves for easier and faster cooking. So, new technology really made us a lot lazier.

That’s why, we should not rely much on these gadgets and equipment. It does help our work easier and faster, but it does teach us to be lazy. Even if all are digital literate in our country, we should not forget and we should be proud of our traits. We should not get influenced by these gadgets on what they make us do. We are lucky to be born completely. So we should use them all and don’t be lazy on using them.

It’s never to late to be early

Four Eyes Insight

Some of the pupils are late when they go to school. Sometimes they want to stay late at night. They don’t know how important going to school early is.

Being punctual is very important for all the pupils because they will not miss something important like flag ceremony and announcements. Late pupils should be punished by their actions. Being late should be over. They should train themselves to be a disciplined pupil. According to an old saying, “Time is Gold. We cannot turn back the time anymore.

Being late can spread throughout the class and it can be a bad

Brave Coward

influence to other pupils. It is a contagious thing. As pupil, if we are always late in coming to school, we can probably bring that attitude when we find our own job someday.

That’s how important promptness is. In school, as pupils when we are late a lot of knowledge will be lost from us. The proper discipline will start today. We should not take away to us a virtue of being punctual.

Being on time shows that we love our studies, we love what we do and most of all we love the people around us. Elementary grades are the foundation for us to learn many things.

OPPA-Patriot

If you are going to ask a person if being a coward is good, the answer would definitely NO! But why some people have guts to do undesirable things which we should be afraid of? Stealing is bad.

Stealing is one of the major offenses stated in the Student’s Handbook Code of Discipline Major Offense #6 punishable by suspension or expulsion depending on the seriousness of the offense.

Why some people steal? Is it because they want to show that they are stronger than others? Is it to show that it feels cool to do so? As we grow up, our parents and elders teach us good values but unfortunately, some children doesn’t have a chance to practice such character because of broken families for instance.

Doing an offense such as stealing, is a coward act because thieves were the one who run and escape.

I was once a victim of ‘modus operandi’ in school. Someone told me that he will just borrow my cellphone because he will call one of our teachers to negotiate about volleyball game. He told me that he was once a pupil in San Juan ES, I trust him and let my phone borrowed but suddenly he escapes from me brought my phone.

Robbers should think about the food they eat came from

unnecessary doings. I think they had a halo stomach filled with decomposers that eats their live bodies.

Just imagine if our surroundings will be filled by bandits. Our parents and teachers have a great role to guide us. Our fate depends on the style of upbringing we got today.

According to the news, the founder of Maute Group was once a good pupil when he is still studying. His teachers do not expect that he will become as fierce as he is today. What happen to him? Therefore, lot of things can twist our young minds, our personality and character towards the world.

Lesson learned, we should not trust too much especially to strangers. We should help other but don’t be a fool to them.

Of course the school will not teach a child how to steal things to others. Teachers and parents will not be happy if their child or pupil will be a professional law breakers.

As pupils, let us try to start the discipline within ourselves while we have still a chance to grow as good individuals.

Next time you meet a stranger, be wise and let him know that respect begets respect.

Let’s Talk about that

Many children in San Juan Elementary School (SJES) are not responsible for the cleanliness of the school. This problem became worse as days go by. We can say that it is one of the bad practices an individual can contribute to his community.

There are SJES pupils who broke the chairs, computer, books and other school properties. There are children who have no discipline in throwing their garbage. Some of them step on the plants or even jump on the plant boxes so the plants die. They wanted to play anywhere. They don’t have discipline. They don’t care about their school. Do you think it is easy to fix any broken properties? Of course no! Of course no!

The school has a budget but it is being used for many

projects. Do pupils have still heart to take good care and protect the school properties? Yes! Because of selfdiscipline they can make it.

We believe that the pupils need to be responsible in the things they use in school so that it will still be useful for the next generation.

The only thing that the teachers can teach the pupils is to impose discipline but still the final attitude will be measured on how pupils follow religiously the rules and regulations of the school specially in maintaining the cleanliness of the surrounding.

The word DEATH is an acronym for Divorce, Euthanasia, Abortion, Total population control and Homosexual marriage. All of these cover all the issues that we are presently facing.

DEATH is also one of our fears, the time wherein our life ends. But today, we are the one who are attracting DEATH to come for us. Isn’t it? We tend to look and think of things that is beyond our control. We think that there will be a way to stop things, a way to have a better life. But will it lead to a better life?

The government plans to impose death penalty. They heightened the War on Drug Campaign where lot of people put to death even innocent young ones. Isn’t it right to suffer such thing? Sympathy, love and respect should go together in order to promote peace.

My attention always caught everyday to one of the bulletins in

Back to Square one

in our classroom. I have read “PEACE CORNER.” This I think, our teacher sees to it that something we must learn from the bulletin display.

We are all open-minded about the real situation happening in the justice system of our country today. We hope that no more innocent lives will suffer due to interest of some. The War on Drugs is good but the process we think is not so justifiable.

“Magkaisa po tayo na labanan ang droga,” this was the line from Brgy. Captain Gregorio Vergara during the Barangay Assembly. This is true because we believe that one of the root causes of crime is DRUG.

We look forward to the good outcomes for fair solution to the vast problems in our society.

Is it hard to follow? From Teacher’s Desk

Many pupils can’t impose a good discipline to themselves. Nowadays, children are more aware about the DepEd Order No. 40 s. 2012 or the DepED Child Protection Policy. The policy aims to protect the child from all forms of violence that may be inflicted by adults, persons in authority as well as their fellow students, including bullying

According to a saying, begets like begets. Therefore whatever attitude of the pupil in school is a mirror of their respective homes. It is a reflection of parent’s upbringing to the children. Parents need to teach how to improve the behavior of their child because they are the first teacher in our lives. We need to cooperate and improve our behavior until we become adult because this is the way we can push our life in good way.

According to our survey there are several reasons why some pupils have a not so good attitude. It is because of the peer influence, family background, gender confusion and other environmental factors. If we tolerate the bad habits to these pupils, they will learn to embrace it. So, we must not pamper them because we will be the one who will suffer someday.

Teachers are sacrificing to impose a good discipline for their

pupils. Children need to listen to their teacher because good attitude gained in school is a great help in growing up. Discipline is very important than gems and money. But most of the time the teachers are the ones being abused because there are individuals who have narrow mind which do not analyze first the situation but instead they confront the teachers right away.

Section 3 (2) Article XV of the 1987 Constitution states that the state shall defend the right of children to assistance, including proper care and nutrition, and special protection from all forms of neglect, abuse, cruelty, exploitation and other conditions prejudicial to their development. So, parent, teachers, pupils and stakeholders should help each one to address this policy.

As pupil, they can stand to this policy as long as it should not be abused. They can treat their teacher as a second parent in school. Parents have trust to the teachers and hoping that their children are safe. Teachers are also fare and aware of their duties and responsibilities. Hence, following the policy will be a great help to all.

Sake of Commonness

San Juan Elementary School always joins the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drills where pupils and teachers convene in a dangerous covered court of the school.

We believe that the Local Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (DRRMC) should take action about such problem for the welfare of the pupils. Covered court may fall anytime a high intensity earthquake attacks Calamba.

All of us will be buried live to death in said evacuation site. Anyway, we give great help to the rescuers because they will easily find us in one place. It goes with the saying, “Hitting two birds in one stone.” How fortunate the rescuers are!

Why do we need still to evacuate from our rooms if the evacuation site is also dangerous? We just have no choice because it is an order from DepEd to make documentations every time there was an earthquake drill.

Dangerous Protection

Furthermore, we do the earthquake drill quarterly in order for the pupils and faculty to be acquainted enough for the unexpected earth shake that might happen. We believe that our drill still cannot suffice our knowledge about preparation.

According to the barangay officials, they plan to have a separate earthquake drill together with the parents so that they will have knowledge also about what will be done and where to fetch their children in case of emergency.

Meanwhile, as pupils, we already know the repeated DuckCover-Hold during the first alarm. Then second alarm that’s the time to get out the room and make lines outside. While third alarm will be the time to go in the evacuation site where brings doubt to us.

Everyone should do their part to solve the problem about the evacuation site in our school.

An ode to a lonely hearted Rio

It used to be crystal clear but now it seemed to lose its shine. It is one of the largest rivers in Laguna and the largest river in the Calamba. San Juan River is a major source of food and livelihood for many of the residents in the vicinity. It is historically, economically and ecologically significant to the people living along its shoreline.

According to history, before Spanish colonization, people decided to clean the image of San Juan Evangelista in the river. They did not know that the image is the patron saint of Tanauan, Batangas. After the image was cleaned a strong typhoon came. Tall trees were uprooted. Houses were damaged.

Days followed and the people decided to name the place ‘San Juan’ in honor to the image. Residents then give importance to the river and the river also gives resources to them. There are fishes and other creatures which provide the villagers in their day to day living.

But through the fast changing lifestyle, it is slowly dying from industrial and household pollution. Today, some of the garbage being found in the river came from the mountains but most often it came from the nearby household. Once a month, the river was being cleaned but only sometimes.

I experience to see some fishermen trying to catch fish in the river early morning. They are positioned over the bridge handling their fishing rods hoping to catch. Some of them are successful.

I can’t imagine if this river will be lost in our landmark in San Juan because of the pollution. Today I can see a rip rap on its side, I think therefore that the barangay or the city government itself was trying to save the river.

Friday Faith|

Every Friday, a vast number of people can be seen lining up in the Senior Nazareno Chapel. The chapel is located at Brgy. San Jose, Calamba City. People from Calamba and neighbouring towns can be seen especially during the first Friday of the month. It seems like every Friday is fiesta day because of the large number of people and the different vendors that have lined in the streets of San Jose selling foods, clothes, curtains and many more in cheaper prices.

According to Jobe Chucumo, one of the owners of Senior Nazareno Chapel, his family did not expect that people would warmly welcome the Senior Nazareno into their lives. The construction of the Senior Nazareno image just happened by accident. Around 400 years ago, residents of San Cristobal built a bridge out of logs. Since that there were still unused logs, Jobe’s ancestors asked for it and thought of making a figure of Senior Nazareno out of it. While looking for a sculptor, three men approached them and told that they would voluntarily make it. They did not ask for anything in return but a place where we could work and some food to keep them going. They also requested that they should not be disturbed at any cause. After a few days, the family got curious because they weren’t hearing any noise at all. When they opened the room, the Senior Nazareno in a beautiful black sculpture welcomed them and the men were gone. After that incident, they did not hear anything from the three men.

As you a young generation, we are hoping that the river will surely be save. It is a landmark which we can call as our ‘own’. Let’s help to protect it and to be saved.

Rochelle Cruz, canteen helper at San Juan Elementary School, has been a devotee of Senior Nazareno for 17 years. Christhal, her daughter always has high fever coupled with convulsions when she was just one and a half year old. Rochelle devoted her daughter to the Senior Nazareno and went to the chapel for nine consecutive Fridays. Christhal, now 17, began to live a normal and healthy life since then.

Working abroad has always been Adelita Cadayuna’s dream. She had settled all the requirements needed except for one; her medical certificate. She has been detected of having tumour in her womb thrice. But when he undergoes series of tests, the result was always the same; there were no tumour detected. It is then that she had heard of the miraculous Senior Nazareno. She started devoting herself to the Senior. After 9 consecutive Fridays, she went to the laboratory to run some tests again and to her surprise the tumour was gone and she was able to fulfil her dream.

Till Deaf do us part

A man stares at the woman and the woman stares back. Without saying a thing, the two seemed to understand each other very well. Gestures, for them, are enough to express their feeling towards each other. Both unaware of the noise the environment makes. Both deprived of the ability to hear and ability to speak. In a world wherein silence speaks louder than noise, a deaf meets another deaf.

Edelano Escarez, 45 has been married to Aiza Escarez, 26 for five years. Despite their 19 years age gap, they still managed to complement each other. However, they are both experiencing hearing impairment. A disability that binds them together and strengthens their marriage.

According to Aling Conrada Escarez, Edelano’s mother, he was born normal, he could hear things and was able to utter some words, but when he turned two he suddenly passed out and from then on he became deaf. On the other hand, Aiza had been deaf ever since she was born.

Research shows that there are many factors that cause hearing impairment and the most common are exposure to loud noise, hearing loss that runs in the family and malformation of the inner ear. It has been proven as well that deafness could be acquired during prenatal and postnatal stages.

Edelano and Aiza first met each other in a basketball court, where Edelano always plays. His cousins just teased him to Aiza, then he courted her and without any second thoughts Aiza nods yes. That marks as the start of their extraordinary love story. The couple are blessed with three children, Mark Angelo, Edelyn, and Erwin. Fortunately, their kids turned out to be normal.

They are living with Edelano’s mother. Aling Conrada is a seamstress and takes care of the couple’s children whenever the two are in work. Edelano is a construction worker and Aiza works as a laundress. Aling Conrada has become the couples’ mouth ever since. Since that the couple haven’t had a good educational background, (Edelano did not finish his elementary while Aiza finishes elementary and was not able to go to high school due to poverty) Aling Conrada was the one who communicates with people in terms of important matters with regards to the two. At the age of 70, she still weaves just to provide for herself and for Edelano’s family.

Despite the demands of the society, no matter what people might think of them, no matter how incapacitated they are, Edelano and Aiza vowed to love each other before God, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health. Even if they are deaf they will still do their part.

Not just a teacher, but also a singer

A very angelic voice can be heard from a teacher who teaches in San Juan Elementary School (SJES) that she is almost known everywhere because of her wonderful talent.

She is Ms. Ferly Mariz S. Larino, the teacher who has an attractive voice when she is singing. Her kindness and ability to teach well also attracts others to her.

Because of her voice, she once had a contest against Charice Pempengco who is now Jake Zyrus. Although she lost, she still accepted it with her heart and she never gave up.

We can see her and hear her voice also on Facebook. Sometimes, she earns P 1, 500.00 if it will be favoured by people from other countries.

Ms. Larino came from a poor family. Her father is a tricycle driver and her mother is a plain housewife. Sometimes, if they really have nothing, their side dish will be fried fish.

Even though they are not rich, she still strives to reach her dreams in life; she also became the third honor in her class. As a result, she was able to avail a scholarship in college.

As she graduated, she worked as a cashier in of the convenience stores in Calamba, Laguna. Her salary is the one that pays off for her family’s needs. Even though it’s hard she never gave up on any challenges.

When she entered the teaching profession, she taught in private schools before she finally set foot on SJES. She became an instant celebrity in the school because of her God given talent. She was always invited to sing during school programs.

Her boyfriend and family inspire her the most. She said that her day wouldn’t be complete without singing any song.

Have you ever found yourself sitting on a couch with your smart phone browsing your social media accounts for countless hours? Playing Dota at your favorite computer shop right after your class and even during weekends? Likes to stay outdoors to chat with friends, hang out and play with them because you avoid your parents for they might ask you to run some errands? Hate waking up early? Hate taking a bath and keep postponing the work that you have to do? If any of this habits are familiar to you, congratulations! You have mastered the art of laziness.

Why is a person lazy? Simply because we are too happy day dreaming. We wanted to get a grade of 90 and above in our report cards, top our exams, be popular in school, excel in academic and non-academic activities and become officers of different school organizations and at the same time we don’t move an inch to do something about our desires. We don’t want to do anything and but we want to have

being lazy? No, because we still love playing sports, going to malls, attending different occasions, going to our friend’s house and all sorts of things that make us happy. This means that laziness is our own choice. It’s a choice that we make. It is only focused on things in our life which we find boring and needs too much effort. Laziness is simply an excuse.

The truth is we want to become at the top of our class and become popular in school, but most of the time we don’t work for it. Imagine a huge dog run towards to bite you, lazy or not lazy, you will run as fast as you can. Why? Because being lazy at that particular moment is not an option. When our teacher tells us to stay in the classroom because we are not done yet with the activity, we don’t have any choice but to finish the activity. Whenever we are facing situations that requires us to respond or else we will end up feeling sorry our laziness disappears.

A Teacher’s undivided love

“Baka hindi lang talaga para sa akin ang pag-aasawa, siguro mas gusto ni Lord na hindi mahati ang atensyon ko para mas magampanan ko ang pagiging guro ko at maibigay ko ang best ko sa mga estudyante ko.”

God is so good that aside from His heavenly love, He has not just given us a set of parents to nurture and guide us and a teacher to teach us and mold us. From kindergarten until to our grade level right now our teachers have endured a lot of sacrifices for us. They are even willing to give some of their precious possessions for the sake of their students.

Ms. Jasmine L. Martirez, 36, a grade two adviser at San Juan Elementary School chooses to focus on her career rather than search for his Mr. Right. She mentioned that maybe it’s God’s way of telling her to pay attention to her students that’s why He kept her single all this time.

To give us quality education that we deserve they will do everything for us, even if it

causes them so much time and money. They will work from day to night just to make their DLL and instructional materials for the next day. They might sometimes scold us, shout at us and sent us to guidance office, but at the end of the day no matter how much they got mad at us because of our wrong doings they will still be the first one to approach us and pamper us. They will always ask us: “Oh, ano sa tingin mo ang dahilan kung bakit kita pinagalitan?”

Our teachers also become our comrade, comforter, saviour, and most importantly our hero. Whenever we have problems, be it financial or personal, they are always there to attend to us.

Just like our parents, they too are being hysterical when we’re in pain. They also know who we are and the capabilities that we have.

Thanking our teachers and letting them feel our love might be a little hard and a little embarrassing to most of us. We find it hard to express our feelings and be vocal about it.

But then, would you rather express your love for them now or just manage to regret it later? We must let our teachers know how much we care and love them while they are still our teachers

Behind His Cape Lies a Knife

“Premarital sex is prohibited in our religion that’s why I chose to save my purity for the right person at the right time.”

On an interview conducted last March 23, Commission on Population (Popcom) Executive Director Dr. Juan Perez III said that every year 209,000 or more than 10 percent of childbirths in the country involve women less than 20 years old. He further pointed out that boys do it for the sexual act while girls do it for love.

Nowadays, dating had become less conservative. Couples have gained more freedom to do what they want to, thus leading to premarital sex. However, there were few people who still have a firm hold on the values and faith of their religion and choose to stay pure until marriage.

A proud member of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), Angelica R. Lamberte, grade three adviser at San Juan ES is a proof that conservative Filipinas still do exist. She firmly believes in the sacredness of marriage that she chooses to give her purity to the right man at the right time.

On the other hand, Samuel (not his real name) has always been God fearing and family oriented. Practicing ministry in Iglesia Ni Cristo for several years helped him to control his temptations as a man. Like his fiancé, Angelica, he too believes that sexual intercourse outside marriage is a sin.

Purity is priority

Having been together for a year, this couple attest that the length of time that a couple had been together does not deter marriage. They first met when Samuel was assigned as a minister at local of Looc, Calamba City; Angelica on the other hand leads the choir and plays the keyboard during mass. The rest, as they say is history. The couple had always believed that God was the one who planned their love story. “When God knew that we were ready for commitment, He revealed our perfect match: each other,” Angelica narrated.

The couple are now busy on their wedding plans. They have already attended series of seminars on family planning. The reception was settled as well. They plan to have their wedding on December 22 of this year and Angelica will soon file her letter of resignation. Since that she will soon-to-be wife of Iglesia Ni Cristo minister, she has to give up her work and focus on serving God and his husband.

In a fast-changing environment that we have now and the access that we have in the internet where we could research everything that we want, it is no longer surprising that most of the youth today engages in premarital sex. However, if the youth of today will start to have a close relationship to God and listen to His teachings then may be just like Angelica and Samuel we will know that God will be very pleased if we will save our purity until we are married.

Whenever we are participating in contests or activities, our parents used to tell us to put our best foot forward. But what if you have clubfoot? Are you still going to put your best foot forward?

Jan Darrel C. Banados, a grade two pupil at San Juan Elementary School is born with a clubfoot. His mother, Aling Mercedes told us that she got sick when she was pregnant with Darrel. She believes that this might be the reason why Darrel was the only one who had clubfoot among her four children and relatives.

According to the Rose Ann De Asis, nurse at DepEd Calamba, clubfoot is caused by the abnormal development of a baby’s bones while in the womb. She mentioned that if it will not be treated early the clubfoot deformity will become a lifetime disability and will have difficulty in terms of employment and acceptance of the society.

However, having clubfoot does not hinder Darrel from doing things that make him happy. He loves to ride bicycles and skateboard and he learns these things on his own. Just like what his mother says, “No one can stop Darrel from doing whatever he wants; he’s even having tantrums whenever we’re not able to buy him or let him do the things that he likes.”

When asked about Darrel’s performance in class, his adviser Jasmine L. Martirez, cheerfully said, “Darrel is very active in class especially during our PE. Whenever I ask him if he could do the skills in PE he would always say kaya ko yan

Hindi ko na lang po sila pinapansin, sinusumbong ko na lang po sila kay Ma’am kasi ayaw ko po .” These were the exact words of Darrel when we asked him if what he did whenever his classmate teases or bullies him.

Aling Mercedes is the only who provides for her family because her husband already passed away. With the low income that she gets in making construction materials, no wonder she can’t afford the surgery that Darrel needed in order to correct its deformity. Will Darrel be able to live a normal life? Will he be able to get employed easily in the future? Will he be able to cope up with the demands of the society? We cannot assume anything right now, but hopefully the spirit and faith that he has right now will still be with him through the test of time.

Kidney is a vital part of our body. Its major function is to remove waste products and excess fluid from the body. Normally, we have two kidneys, but some people are born having only one kidney known as solitary kidney.

With a short and slightly curled hair, big round eyes, skinny body and a weight of 23.5 kilograms, no wonder Khatelyn Drew M. Laumoc, a grade six pupil at San Juan Elementary School falls under the category severely wasted on the Body Mass Index conducted last June 2017.

Mrs. Marialyn Laumoc, Khatelyn’s mother said that she just delivered Khateyln at home and she did not undergo newborn screening. It is later in May 2017 that they got suspicious of Khatelyn’s condition because she’s always sick and maintains low weight even if she was provided enough foods to eat. It is then that they find out that Khatelyn only has one kidney.

According to Rose De Asis, Deped Calamba nurse people born with only one kidney usually lives a normal life but they still need to protect their health by eating a nutritious diet, keeping their blood pressure at the appropriate level, and preventing injury to the working kidney.

Calamba city’s Nutritionist Officer IV, Aleli Catalina Y. Jimenez, said that one of the most common diseases people acquire today is chronic kidney disease due to the foods that we eat. Salty foods, junk foods, fast food and foods with preservatives trigger kidney disease. She also added that most Filipinos of today,

specifically the young ones do not drink plenty of water, which is one of the best ways in preventing kidney diseases.

Khatelyn did not monitor the foods that she eats before because she wasn’t aware of her condition yet. In an interview, her sisters stated that Khatelyn used to prolong urinating which made her kidney more vulnerable. Eating salty foods and not drinking plenty of water also weakened Khatelyn’s solitary kidney.

On the last check-up that Khatelyn had at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), it was diagnosed that her kidney had reached stage three. Once she had reached stage five, she needs to undergo dialysis, a procedure that is a substitute for many of the normal functions of the kidneys. To prevent it from happening her family only feeds her tasteless foods with no preservatives or condiments added. They also motivate Khatelyn to drink more than eight glasses of water a day.

At the age of 11, Khatelyn had already experienced so much in life. If she had known her situation earlier, then maybe, just maybe she will be able to live differently. In spite of the series of tests that Khatelyn has to go through and different drugs and medicines that she has to take, Mrs. Marialyn still wants her daughter to live a normal life. She still sends her to school, still allows Khatelyn to play and to feel the way an innocent and young kid should feel. In a world where almost everyone wants to live luxuriously, Khatelyn’s family continue striving just to live a normal and healthy life.

Most people are into business nowadays. Online business and fast food restaurants are some of the in demand businesses of this generation. Businesses become successful if it is in demand to people, but it will be even more successful if it is something closer to the one who owns it.

Cat, which is said to be a dog’s mortal enemy, is Aling Cora’s (not her real name) source of income and stress reliever as well. She believes in the superstition that whenever you’re not feeling well your cat will absorb all your illness so that you’ll get better.

She takes care of three cats and three kittens. Two are female and the other one is a male. The male cat is named Mateo and it is her most behave cat. While the two female cats are both hottempered and they easily get irritated. She also stated that all of her cats are of different breeds. She also do crossbreeding or the mating of two animals with different breed to produce another animal among her cats. Once crossbred, Aling Cora will sell the kitten after two months. According to her, she earns 5, 000 pesos for every cat that she sells.

Dra. Shiela A. Matibag, Calamba City Veterinarian explains, “There is nothing wrong with crossbreeding, however it has its advantages and disadvantages. Usually crossbred cats are very healthy unlike ordinary cats, but since they are crossbred their character is unknown which means they might have different characteristics or trait than that of a normal cat.”

For Aling Cora, she breeds cat to breed them and once crossbred she sells some of them. Selling her kittens does not mean that she didn’t love them or that she’s just after the money, but rather it means that she lets other people to experience what she experienced by taking care of them.

Young Entrepreneur

Likeweise with Mrs. Rowena, her neighbour, Jasper Reyes, a Grade 8 student at Looc National High School is a pet a lover turned entrepreneur.

Jasper earns P 4,000.00 every time his dove won in a dove race. A dove can reach about 700 kilometres. They can even reach neighboring provinces and still be able to go back to their masters. Such characteristic is rare. When we asked about Dra. Matibag about it she tells us, “ It’s like doves have their own GPS (Global Positioning System) built in to their body, they are good at roaming to different places and at the same time they can also go back to the place where they come from.”

With the help of his father, Jasper was able to raise a dozen of doves. Although his family is not used to it yet, because of the bad odor that comes from its stools, they still support Jasper at it has also become the source of their income. According to Jasper, one dove costs P 80.00 and if the customer wants to buy a pair dove, he sells it at P150.00.

With the income that he gets from selling doves and winning in races, he was able to finance his studies on his own.

Based on teenshealth.org, G6PD deficiency is an inherited condition in which the body doesn't have enough of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, or G6PD, which helps red blood cells (RBCs) function normally. This deficiency can cause hemolytic anemia, usually after exposure to certain medications, foods, or even infections.

Most people with G6PD deficiency don't have any symptoms, while others develop symptoms of anemia only after RBCs have been destroyed, a condition called hemolysis. In these cases, the symptoms disappear once the cause, or trigger, is removed. In rare cases, G6PD deficiency leads to chronic anemia.

“My first baby has G6PD deficiency. It was diagnosed after her new born screening test. We took her immediately to her pediatrician to talk about the case. She advised us to have a second blood test for confirmation. The second test was positive. I felt so depressed because according to her pediatrician, Dra. Rowena Padilla, G6PD is a life long situation and it can’t be cured. The best therapy is to simply avoid prohibited chemicals, drugs and foodstuffs like fava beans, red wine, blueberries, soya products, etc. In case of a hemolytic crisis, the most effective therapy is blood transfusion.

“At first, it was so difficult for me as a mother on how to raise my child. She was so sickly during her infancy stage. She is prone to viral infections and feeding her is a big deal. There are times that she suffered high fever even there’s no cough and colds. Lab test is negative and doctors can’t explain the cause of her fever. I took some research about G6PD deficiency through internet and ask different doctors about it.”

“Iya Reign is now 4 years old. I know it is hard for her to avoid some prohibited foodstuffs so I always talk to her about her situation. Besides of her disorder, I am a proud mother because she can perform well in school. G6PD is not a hindrance for the academic excellence of a child. Selfdiscipline is one way to cure G6PD.”

SJES Canteen foods fail inspection

Failed grade of SJES canteen reaches 4 out of perfect 10 score according to the Division Nurse who visited the school tomonitor the food, cleanliness and how effective canteens within the division regulates.

In an interview, Rose Ann De Asis, Deped Nurse, said that if she will be the one to be asked on how nutritious the foods serve at the SJES canteen, she will give 4 out of 10.

“Ang bilao ninyo ay mix ng green, yellow, and red category na pagkain, De Asis said.

Biscuits, candies, siopao, were some of the foods seen by the nurse which leads to get a fail grade for the canteen.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Rochelle Cruz, canteen seller, defends the canteen about

what foods were available during the nurse visit.

Pupils supposed to be will have their parade before the other contests but unfortunately, only indoor activities have been executed.

“Nag-enjoy pa din kami sa Cooking contest kahit hirap na hirap kaming gumawa ng ningas dahil pugon lang ginamit namin,” St. Claire Bague said.

Computer Games Craze

Are computer games bad or good for us?

Computer games such as GTA, Special Force, Counter Strike, Point Blank, Crossfire, League of Legends, Mobile Legends and DOTA 2 are the most common among the pupils of San Juan Elementary School (SJES).

Among the 159 recipients that we asked from the pupils of San Juan Elementary School, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) was the most favoured with 40 respondents, followed by Point Blank and Counter Strike with both 25 respondents, Crossfire, 20 respondents, DOTA 2 and League of Legends, both with 15 respondents, Mobile Legend, 10 respondents and Special Force with 5 respondents.

In finding out the reason that makes these computer games addictive, I asked Ruzzell Managuit, DOTA 2 player and a Grade six pupil at SJES and he said, “Sa DOTA 2 kasi pag mas mahirap yung game, mas challenging, mas lalong nakaka-addict.”

Indeed, playing computer games has its advantages like we tend to spend most of our money on it and some pupils cut classes just to go to computer shop. It also becomes a hindrance in our performance in school.

However, no matter how addictive computer games are for most pupils, they also benefit them in some ways. By playing these games one tends to enhance his/her mental skills such as problem solving and logic, hand-eye coordination and multitasking. A person that plays computer games increases his/her ability to think quickly and make fast decisions.

Playing computer games has its boon and bane. I’m not saying that playing computer game is a crime nor should it be considered a habit. The only thing that we have to practice is taking these things into moderation.

Lanzanas breaks down Vivas in ‘Bunong Braso’, 3-0

Eumir Lanzanas, Grade Six pupil, save his record after winning against Frank Vivas in Arm Wrestling last School Intramurals due to his tremendous bicep that made an advantage to his opponent.

According to Vivas, he did not get a chance to win against Lanzanas because of great force in his body.

“Mas malaki siya sakin kaya mas malakas,” Vivas admitted.

Meanwhile, in the first round, Lanzanas fought Simon Cruz from Grade Five where he easily won the round.

In round two, he fought Gian Banalo, Grade Six, where he put on his full effort because his opponent matches his force.

“Akala ko matatalo ako ni Gian, malakas din kasi siya, Lanzanas said.

Last round is at its best when Lanzanas again put his effort to dominate the game to Vivas where he easily won and declared as the winner.

Abusive Play

Playing is fun. It can make us perspire and laugh. A big decision will set unto us. Are we choosing computer games, physical sports or ‘laro ng lahi’?

According to the survey, our teachers in their generation are loves to play also. They usually play laro ng lahi such as patintero, Chinese garter, piko and luksong lubid. Some of these games are continuously disappearing today.

We believe that laro ng lahi is better than computer games because it can exercise our minds and body. It is really nice to play under the heat of the sun and meet other friends. There are also some games to choose like playing basketball, badminton, tennis and other outdoor games.

We can conclude that playing computer games is not a good habit. It makes us un-healthy for the screen’s radiation can affect our eyes. Some believe that sitting for hours is like smoking. Other children skip their meals because they are hook in front of the screen. Parents need to set time for their children to play computer games.

We should balance our time to rest and play. We should not do away to think our health because Health is Wealth. Whatever we do it will affect us.

Elec,

Grade IV, breaks the record

Grade IV made a new record after they won for the first time over Grade Six, 2-1 in volleyball game during the School Intrams last June 30, 2017.

Over the past years they also lose against Grade Six because they are more powerful than them. But Grade IV showed their power in volleyball this year that is why they won this year.

Daniel San Gabriel, Grade IV pupil, maintained his good services and spikes to make his team on top.

“Marami akong hindi napagtagumpayan sa buhay kasi hindi naman ako magaling sa klase kaya masaya ako na naipanalo ang larong ito para sa Grade IV,” San Gabriel said.

According to Grade VI supporters, they saw Dennis Ramos, the scorer, caught cheating on scoring. When Grade VI scored he gave the points to Grade IV instead of Grade VI. But according to the referee, the scoring in the game was correct and had no violation.

“Magaling ‘yung Grade IV kasi overage na sila at advantage nila yun para matalo nila yung Grade VI,” Mr. Leonardo Bello, referee said.

According to him, even if he has a talent in playing volleyball he never dreamed of playing volleyball outside the country because it seemed impossible.
