P140K allots School-to-School Partnership

San Juan Elementary School (SJES) receives P140K budget for the National School-to-School Partnership Program launched this school year by the Department of Education (DepEd) which aims to provide assistance and support to low performing schools in National Achievement Test (NAT).

DepEd Order 83, series of 2012 or the Implementing Guidelines on the Revised School-Based Management (SBM) continuous to build networks of educational leaders in schools and communities that will guide the educational system achieve its shared vision, mission and goals.

In a message during the launching of the program last August, Ms. Lorna Teope, SJES principal said that the P140K came from a national budget which will be used to allocate in buying the different materials needed for the program.

“Sampiruhan is our Leader School while our school, San Juan will be their partner school,” Teope said.

Chosen leader schools are those who got high performance in NAT while partner schools are those low performing schools. Sampruhan ES will be the one who will provide the school supplies to SJES and San Juan will execute the project.

However, there were lots of different projects in every subject launch by SJES. Each Subject Coordinators were the one accountable to lead the said programs.

The school principal assumes responsibility and accountability for the better success. But many of the pupils interviewed were amenable that their parents are irresponsible in having follow-up at home that’s why most of them do not know or low in comprehension skills which leads to the low performance of test result in NAT.

SJES takes its measures in order to achieve a higher NAT Result which the faculty members were aiming for the P35K Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) this school year.

P25K spends for New Computer Lab

More or less P25, 000 was spent in building the new computer laboratory to enhance the continuous improvement process in a place of continuing systematic method of upgrading the educational services of the school.

In an interview, Mrs. Digna Tolentino, school ICT Coordinator, said that the new computer room will greatly help the pupils to have a hands-on experience in using the computer units.

“Magiging useful naman ang computer room kaso nga lang medyo masikip ang place niya.” Tolentino said. The room has a limited space because it was just located between two classrooms she added.

Currently our school allocated a new computer room for the public pupils because many of the learners do not own a computer or any media resources which are necessary for education.

Meanwhile there were ten computer units available but only seven are usable and the other three were not functional. The school promised to repair those unusable in order for the pupils to have access in using it.

60 Drug Suspects Surrenders

Barangay San Juan joins Oplan Tokhang to abolish drug related cases.

Over 60 drug suspects in Barangay San Juan voluntarily surrendered since the Oplan Tokhang of President Rodrigo Duterte was impose to the country.

In an interview, Jun Lumbres, Barangay Councilor of San Juan, nine of the 60 plus drug suspects were an ordinary house wife. Some of them were nursing mothers.

“Kalimitan sa mga lalaki na sumuko ay mga tricycle driver,” Lumbres said. He also added that the suspects were amenable that they truly use illegal drugs for years already.

Due to the Oplan Tokhang of Duterte, they voluntarily surrendered themselves for the sake of their family.

Meanwhile, the local barangay of San Juan has no projects implemented yet for the drug users in order to help them change their habit in using the illegal drugs.

The barangay is still undergoing to be in one of the city office which will give a common project for the rehabilitation of the users.

P10K spent for classroom TVs

| Alexah Keanlee M. Pandez

MOOE (Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses) spends over 10 thousand pesos for three TV sets of classrooms to provide the new learning system using multi-media resources.

One of the priorities in school of Ms. Lorna Teope; the principal is to provide television in all the classrooms in SJES.

According to Teope, acquiring those televisions to complete all the classrooms is one of her achievements in school. She also added that she still expect more projects which will provide the pupils a more comfortable study and stay in school.

The teacher assigned to the classroom who will received the TV set voluntarily

added their own expense to augment the price and for them to buy a much bigger television.

“Malaking tulong ito sa pagtuturo dahil nagagamit namin ang multi-media at palagay ko mas effective,” Mr. De Vale said, Grade IV teacher.

Meanwhile, SJES received three more TV from DO. All of the classrooms now in SJES had their TV. DepEd suggests using now the multi-media technique in teaching. They believe that this system will cater the need of the new learners in the technology age.

The teachers prepare their multi-media resources everyday.

Waste Disposal, No. 1 Problem in San Juan

The City Health Sanitation Office of Calamba made ways to manage the proper waste disposal of each barangay all over the city in line with the National Program which promotes the proper segregation.

According to Gregorio Vergara, Brgy. Captain of San Juan, the barangay officials had difficulties in implementing the said program. “Mahirap kausapin ang mga tao, kahit paulit-ulit na sabihan sila na ibukod ang bawat uri ng basura ay hindi talaga sumusunod ang iba,“ he added.

The officials still continue to remind and find ways to make the barangay as clean as it is.

Waste segregation aims to promote the total proper disposal of the different types of garbage as biodegradable, non-

biodegradable, recyclable and special garbage. The barangay made ways to remind the households to the good effect of waste segregation as a whole.

Meanwhile, some of the households let their garbage stay along the street without the presence yet of the garbage collector. Vergara added that stray animals usually destroy the garbage bags every morning which cause the garbage to overflow and mess the roadsides.

However, other concerned residents done their part to follow the regulation on this program. “Sa bahay po sumusunod po kami sa pag-bubukod-bukod ng mga basura. Yung mga naiipon naming mga bote, kahon at dyaryo ay binebenta ng mga anak namin at nagkakaroon sila ng konting pera para baon,” one of the parent in school said.

School spends P18K for Teambuilding

More than P18,000 spent a budget for the teachers’ seminar last June 25, 2016 in a hot spring resort.

This seminar aims to promote the equality in the field of education.

The budget was from the MOOE (Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses). All schools are entitled to have such activity.

“Our objective for teambuilding is to improve the life of every person and gender sensitivity awareness.” Lorna Teope; the principal said.

The teachers did several games. A facilitator was assigned to their group to handle

them in the activity. Some of the games are building a pyramid using the plastic cups. The two groups should have the unity to make it as fast as they can. Other game was the archer, rabbit, wall.

The group also experienced to do the zipline and wall climbing. Some teachers done it for the first time while the others have experienced it already.

“First, I was afraid to ride in the zip line because it was my first time, but when I was riding already, I enjoyed. It was really fun.” Mrs. Almeda said .

Teachers’ Day Celeb recognizes a Retiree Teacher

Mrs. Elena B. Jasmilona, one of the Grade One teachers of San Juan ES (SJES) received a salute from the faculty members of San Juan ES (SJES) for serving at least three decades of her life as a teacher.

An award was given to the retiree teachers in each elementary and secondary public school for those faculty who made the best in serving their chosen field at Letran de Calamba during the Teacher’s Day celebration. Jasmilona was the Guidance Coordinator and Girl Scout Coordinator

“Masaya ako sa na-receive kong award as a Teacher in our school because all my efforts are recognized,” Jasmilona said. She also added that having such award is a reminds her of all the efforts she had in teaching profession.

Meanwhile, Diosdado San Antonio, Regional Director of Region IV, shared his message to the teachers. He congratulated the teachers for their efforts of molding the young learners in our generation. He also talked about the benefits as a teacher.

Some faculty got the chance to receive the gift from a Raffle Draw. There are grocery items and cash gifts.

However, several politicians came to the activity and some of them gave messages to the teachers. The Teachers’ Day Celebration was a culminating activity to value teachers in our community. The activity was done the whole day which according to some it made them boring.

DepEd implements New grading System

In line with the DepEd Order No. 36 series of 2016, San Juan Elementary School (SJES) follows the new grading system this school year.

The new grading system aims to recognize the outstanding performance and achievements of pupils. It encourages pupils to strive for excellence.

In a memo, it is stated that in order for the pupil to achieve an award by the end of the school year, he must attain the grades not lower than 90%. The Academic Excellence Award will be as follows: With Highest Honors 98-100%, With High Honors 95-97% and With Honors 90-94%.

“Para sa akin hindi masyadong maganda ang bagong grading system ngayon dahil sa totoo lang konti lang mga bata na deserving talaga mabigyan ng 90% base grade,” one of the faculty members said. The teachers also added that in as much as they want to give high grade but only few pupils deserved for it.

There still different awards that may be given to the pupils such as Excellence Award, Conduct Awards, Perfect Attendance and Awards for Outstanding Performance in Specific Disciplines.

Meanwhile, San Juan ES takes its measures in abiding the new grading system without compromising the fairness in giving the right grades for the pupils.

SJES, no safe evacuation place

Barangay Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council found out that San Juan ES (SJES) has no safe place for the evacuation center during an earthquake due to its location.

San Juan ES (SJES) takes an every year earthquake drill which aims to promote family earthquake preparedness in connection with the National Disaster Consciousness Month.

In an interview, Mr. Leonardo R. Bello, Master Teacher of SJES said that the covered court is not safe for the pupils and faculty members to convene in the said place because it may fall to them.

“Kung dito kayo mag-i-stay sa court in case of lindol, malamang ay mababagsakan din kayo ng bubong,” one of the barangay councilors said during the earthquake drill. She also added that if the school will use the free lot space near the school, it may also be risky for the pupils to cross the street because of running vehicles and electrical posts.

Meanwhile due to the problem which may occur due to lack of evacuation space, the barangay takes their lead in order to solve the said problem.

President Rodrigo Duterte Senate of the Nation Address

Dear Editor,

Oftentimes our covered court became dirty because of the pupils who did not know HOW AND WHERE to throw the garbage properly. The canals became clogged because of the plastics and other things. The Grade Five and Six pupils were assigned to clean the court everyday and we are also doing our part to do so. Sometimes we find difficulty in cleaning because of this never ending garbage. Some pupils also were playing while we are cleaning so it causes destruction for us and we cannot accomplish early what we do. We hope that you can find way to solve the problem.

Thank you and more power to the staff!

Yours truly, Art Steven T. Palabrica, Grade VI

The end justify the means EDITORIAL

One hundred days of the president have past. Are you satisfied about his accomplishments? President Rodrigo Roa Duterte had promised several problems that our country need to solve in his first 100 days. One of those is to suppress the drugs. He proposed the program on “War on Drugs” it is right but extra judicial killings should end.

According to the news we hear everyday more and more people had taken their lives just to suppress the problem. Last August there were 1,800 extra judicial killings who have reported. Yes, we seldom hear now crimes on riding in tandem, robbery, rape and the likes because the root cause of these crimes most probably is when someone is in the state of using the prohibited drugs.

We can say that War on Drugs is good but it should not take away the right of the human beings to live. Even criminals have the right to change his life into a better person. On the other side, we should not take for granted also the life of the policemen and other authorities who lay their lives for duty. Some reacts that it is unfair because if criminals lost their lives, ‘human rights’ is beside them. But if lives of law enforcers lost, “it’s alright’. We are one country, we should be fair to the treatment for each and everyone. In ethics, freedom is not doing what you want but doing what is right and becoming good.

The kind of government now has an iron-fisted leader who implements programs that sometimes people may not like. Let us think if the new generation will witness unfair justice. The young minds will build on them the sense of revenge. They may build also in their minds that killings are just an ordinary thing to do in order to solve a certain problem. Let us not expect for this to happen.

Are you one of those whose who dream to have a first class country? Of course yes! We think that the president together with the local authorities was making the best way to solve the problems on drugs and crimes. But still we should be vigilant in order for them not to abuse their position.

Dear Art,

Thank you for your concern in our school. The Supreme Pupil Government (SPG) can surely lead to address that problem. But there will not have a successful solution if each and everyone will not cooperate to solve about the proper garbage disposal. The teachers also can do their part to remind each class about it.

I hope you will be more cooperative to see the problems in our school. Thank you.

Filipinos expect for a better country

Change is coming. Definitely, Filipinos had to wait that new quote from the punisher of the Philippines.

We have heard many promises and strong words from Duterte to end the corruption of government especially dealing with the eradication of poverty.

By creating more and better high-paying jobs can address the country’s poverty issue. Our country today needs leaders who will make change for the nation. A change that will surely benefit all kinds of people. A change that will uplift those who were behinds. We should try to make new scheme that rich will get across the poor so they too will become rich. One will not be happy will not be happy if he is on top but he is alone because he left others below him.

Brain-drain in the Philippines is visible because the government was not trying to support the qualified professionals.

Are we just going to sell our potentials to foreign countries? Of course no! Love your own country. Filipinos are smart, skillful and talented. As evidence, there are lots of our fellowmen who were included in the rooster of scientists as well as other fields. High-paying jobs should be prioritized in our country. One cannot successfully work with an empty stomach. And so, if individuals are supported with jobs, each family could enjoy comfortable living. Man cannot therefore think to do crimes.

Let’s try to work hand in hand. People has freedom but we should consider that it is not doing what you want to do but rather doing what is good and becoming a good person. Stop the corruption. Give what is due to Juan dela Cruz.

Perception about Duterte’s Administration

70% Teachers believe that there’s a positive outcome the way he manage the country for the first 100 days.

30% Teachers still do not believe and do not know the plausible outcome of Duterte’s administration.

SJES
Survey

TREAT AS

YOUR SECOND HOME

Many children in San Juan Elementary School (SJES) are not responsible for the cleanliness of the school. This problem became worse as days go by. We can say that it is one of the bad practices an individual can contribute to his community.

There are SJES pupils who broke the chairs, computer, books and other school properties. There are children who have no discipline in throwing their garbage. Some of them step on the plants or even jump on the plant boxes so the plants die. They wanted to play anywhere. They don’t have discipline. They don’t care about their school. Do you think it is easy to fix any broken properties? Of course no! The

properties? Of course no! The The school has a budget but it is being used for many other projects. Do pupils have still heart to take good care and protect the school properties? Yes! Because of selfdiscipline they can make it.

Listen up

We believe that the pupils need to be responsible in the things they use in school so that it will still be useful for the next generation. The only thing that the teachers can teach the pupils is ti impose discipline but still the final attitude will be measured on how pupils follow religiously the rules and regulations of the school specially in maintaining of the cleanliness of the surrounding.

Odds may be with us

Grade School. It means that we are in the training to mold us for the real world. But there is one thing that I don’t understand. Some teachers do not treat their pupils equally. Some of the students here are taking advantage of it and not taking too much on their studies.

It is okay to preach pupil who is outstanding in class but as long as it cannot affect other pupils it is good.

Meanwhile, some teachers are enjoying the favoritism. Treating the pupils unequally becomes the point that they are not paying too much attention on the other students.

teacher’s fault why some pupils are failing. It is also the pupils’ obligation to make their grade better.

Point it out

They are focusing on their favorite pupils. This may cause hostile, irritated and make negative thoughts. Sometimes it leads for the pupils to have failing grade.

I’m not saying that it is the

We are in grade school. We are starting to learn new ideas around us. We need to be professional in every way. Teachers are not just teaching the pupils. They are training us to be a good pupil. But how we will be ready if some of the students are being spoiled?

Give the pupils chances to show their skills and willingness to learn to pursue their dreams. Motivate the pupils to believe their own passion.

Equality is not only for the gender. It is not only for the color or race. It also talks about treatment. Treatment that I will sure that deserves each one of us. This is not for us. It is also for our future.

WORSE TO WORST

Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (DRRMC) is having a yearly earthquake drill due to the preparation of any earth shaking that may happen anytime. San Juan ES had no enough open space for the pupils to evacuate during an earthquake. We should take this seriously because worse thing may become a worst scenario if we are not prepared.

In our school, we have a court but according to the DRRMC Coordinator it is not advisable for the pupils and faculty members to convene in the said space because it is just like risking their lives and wait to die if the roof will probably fall to them. There is an open space near the school but the pupils need to cross the street to reach it. The school is along the road it may be difficult for the pupils to get over that open space

My Pen Speaks

may hit them. There is an open space near the school but the pupils need to cross the street to reach it. The school is along the road it may be difficult for the pupils to get over that open space because running vehicles may hit them and electrical posts may fall on them. Is there any ways that the school and the barangay do to solve this problem? Our parents were expecting that the school may take good care for us pupils while we are in school since they trusted San Juan as second home of their children.

The local government also has their part to satisfy our needs of being safe. They can make ways on how to solve this problem such as making deal with the barangay and the school to look for a safer way and location to evacuate. Teachers need to be alert as well as the pupils in order not to get hurt if any disaster would come.

Reflecting Future

“Youth is the hope of our fatherland.” That is how Jose Rizal describe the youth in the future. But how can we trust youth if they commit absenteeism? Absent without valid reason. How can we sure that they know the value of education?

According to the teachers, family conflict is the first reason why the pupil commit absents. And it greatly affects the academic performance of the pupil.

Some parents were surrendered to the behavior of their children.

How can you give sympathy to the children if they can’t discipline their own child?

From Teacher’s Desk

1 out of 10 grade six pupils have a frequent absenteeism. Let’s commend the parents to support their children so much. But those parents who neglect their responsibility is an another business. Peer influence is another reason why the pupils do not listen to their parents.

Teaching the pupils is not only the responsibility of teachers but also for the parents.

The school provides programs to cater the needs of pupils just to continue schooling.

Think of the people who finished their studies but have no jobs. And to the pupils who do not finish their studies will have difficulty also to find a job someday.

The world is our stage. We are born in a competitive world. So let us help each other to reach our goals. Let us all make ourselves to the top. It is truly a fulfilling emotion if each one of us is successful in our chosen fields of responsibility.

ALEXAH CHANEL

Not too late to be early

Some of the pupils are late when they go to school. Sometimes they want to stay late at night. They don’t know how important going to school early is.

Being punctual is very important for all the pupils because they will not miss something important like flag ceremony and announcements. Late pupils should be punished by their actions.

Breakthrough

Being late should be over. They should train themselves to be a disciplined pupil. According to an old saying, “Time is Gold. We cannot turn back the time

anymore.

When pupils come late, it can destruct the flow of the lecture or discussion of the class. Lateness can spread throughout the class and it can be a bad influence to other pupils. It is a contagious thing. As pupil, if we are always late in coming to school, we can probably bring that attitude when we find our own job someday.

The proper discipline will start today. We should not take away to us a virtue of being punctual. Being on time shows that we love our studies, we love what we do and most of all we love the people around us.

Remember the R word

The world has been inverted. The way of chances has been changed. In this era, the students don’t have respect; a Filipino values that lead us to good communication and basis for our equality.

We all know that study life is being independent to our studies. We are not like babies. We do not tolerate spoon feeding. In school, we keep in being in touch to our teachers to have good interaction with them. In this era, we have young teachers; fresh minds, new ideas and good interaction with the pupils.

Yes! We have laws that protect to the pupils from abusive teachers. But behind these laws, some pupils abide these laws. No kindness when they treat their teachers. They forgot to distance on the limitations. Teachers might have deficiency in any aspect but the respect should focus to them.

Freedom Wall

Despite in good relation and interaction to us, do we forget on how to communicate and treat them properly? In short, do we forget on how to respect them?

Care no more?

Do you know something about RH Bill?

Law makers in the congress are still having some hearings if it will be passed or not. This bill covers the control for population where Filipinos should choose some artificial methods that will help couples to prevent pregnancy and other medications that can help birth control.

In addition, too being in touch to the teachers might be a reason for them to forgot the word respect.

According to Confucius, Don’t do unto others what you don’t want others do unto you. Pupils should do their limitations between their teachers. Because the knowledge was came from respect and the one who knows how to respect was reflected that he learned.

Spell Rules?

some sensitive issues that is beyond a young’s mind. They just knew that it will control reproduction.

It was said that the Philippine population is getting bigger that is why our country can’t progress. Will these answer our issues?

Bull’s Eye

Some pupils said that they still doesn’t have any idea about this bill, still there are

In their understanding some says it will be a great help to pass the bill so that there will be less street children because the parents will be aware on what are the best ways.

Some pupils believe that life should not be stopped. God let us live life to the fullest. We should take care of what is living. A child should be given a chance to live.

No one has the power to control life. We need to procreate as stewards in all God’s creation. Young mind it may seem, but they can decide.

Rules. Life is full of rules. From the Ten Commandments of the Bible to the Constitution of each and every country, we are governed by rules.

Likewise, academic institutions enforce rules and regulations that the students are expected to abide by. This should have been an easy thing to do since it has been the fashion from the very start. Nevertheless, many are still reluctant in doing it.

Or is it because man is a naturaldeviant? Ironically, the answer to that mystery remains another mystery.

One of the most violated imperative is the one that has something to do with the uniform. Black leather shoes, slacks, white polo, color of the hair and makeups.

MARY

Lay it on the line

It has been a mystery as to why students are having a difficult time in obeying the rules set by their respective schools. Is it because they have been tolerated to do it? Is it because they think it is cool to do that?

We are abiding these rules because we want to express our self. We are just doing our fashion statement. But we have to consider that there are rules and regulation that we need to follow.

We have to open our eyes and envisions that being a student is reflected to our school on how we follow the rules. We don’t need to be blinded.

SJES prepares for the ‘Big One’

Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (BDRRMC) made an Earthquake Drill for the preparation of pupils on Calamba including San Juan Elemantary School (SJES).

Michael P. De Vale, coordinator on earthquake drill, says the drill is for the preparation and the safety of the students, so they can be prepared.

“Ginagawa rin natin itong drill para hindi rin mag-panic ang mga bata at para alam nila ang gagawin habang lumilindol,” De Vale said. De Vale added, the earthquake drill is done usually monthly so that the teachers and the pupils will have enough idea what will they going to do if there is really an earthquake.

According to De Vale the drill is helpful. He said that even if they have to spend the whole day just to practice the drill, everybody is very participative.

However, the Department of Education (DepEd) gives survey papers to the schools on Calamba including SJES so they can know the preparedness of the families during, before and after the earthquake.

The theme of the year’s congress was “Transforming Learning, Empowering Learners through DSTFC.”

The congress also intends to strengthen skills of teachers in research and pedagogy. There are brackets for the contest. Video presentation was for the Grade 3 teachers. Sci-folio, Mind Map, research and Science Investigatory Project for Master Teachers .

“I am happy because I won in the science congress. Although it’s my first time to join, still I got the spot.” Lamberte said.

SJES innovates ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’

The Department of Education (DepEd) gave memorandum on having a ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ in each school which promotes healthy nutrition of the pupils because it the vegetables coming from the garden will be included in the feeding program.

The city government joins the program through the Lingap PangAgrikultura project of City Mayor Justine Marc Chipeco and the Sangguniang Panlungsod. The City Agricultural Services Department distributed different seeds such as sili, pechay and mustasa to name some was given to each schoolto be planted in the school gulayan project.

San Juan ES uses the vegetables coming from the garden in their daily feeding of undernourished pupils. Mrs. Rubylou Oliveros, teacher assigned in the garden together with five pupils monitored daily the vegetables. “Noong binisita ang garden ng mga tagamunisipyo sabi nila maganda daw pero kelangan pa ng pondo para mas maging maayos,” Oliveros said.

Meanwhile, the pupils assigned to monitor the garden improve it already by building fences. They said that the vegetables will be more safe from stray animals and to the children as well who play in the court every vacant periods .

Sounds familiar? Yes, this is the theme song of this year’s most phenomenal game, Pokémon Go-a new GPS-based augmented reality game.

To play this game you must download its app on your smartphones. For one to progress in the game, he/she must walk around to find and catch Pokémon. Yes it do requires walking; lots of walking.

"I've spent hours walking around the village to find Pokemons. There's no doubt about it, I am exercising more as a result of playing the game, and I am enjoying it."

Miguel even added that the game also boosts his curiosity and knowledge about his surroundings. It is because the game has led him to areas that he hasn’t explored yet. Moreover, he had also met several people and became friends with them while playing the game.

What is G6PD Deficiency?

Based on teenshealth.org, G6PD deficiency is an inherited condition in which the body doesn't have enough of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, or G6PD, which helps red blood cells (RBCs) function normally. This deficiency can cause hemolytic anemia, usually after exposure to certain medications, foods, or even infections.

Most people with G6PD deficiency don't have any symptoms, while others develop symptoms of anemia only after RBCs have been destroyed, a condition called hemolysis. In these cases, the symptoms disappear once the cause, or trigger, is removed. In rare cases, G6PD deficiency leads to chronic anemia

“My first baby has G6PD deficiency. It was diagnosed after her new born screening test. We took her immediately to her pediatrician to talk about the case. She advised us to have a second blood test for confirmation. The second test was positive. I felt so depressed because according to her pediatrician, Dra. Rowena Padilla, G6PD is a life long situation and it can’t be cured. The best therapy is to simply avoid prohibited chemicals, drugs and foodstuffs like fava beans, red wine, blueberries, soya products, etc. In case of a hemolytic crisis, the most effective therapy is blood transfusion.

“At first, it was so difficult for me as a mother on how to raise my child. She was so sickly during her infancy stage. She is prone to viral infections and feeding her is a big deal. There are times that she suffered high fever even there’s no cough and colds. Lab test is negative and doctors can’t explain the cause of her fever. I took some research about G6PD deficiency through internet and ask different doctors about it.”

“Iya Reign is now 4 years old. I know it is hard for her to avoid some prohibited foodstuffs so I always talk to her about her situation. Besides of her disorder, I am a proud mother because she can perform well in school. G6PD is not a hindrance for the academic excellence of a child. Self-discipline is one way to cure G6PD.”

Newly Hired

Teaching is a really tough job, but it becomes even more challenging with the three newly hired teachers at San Juan Elementary School (SJES). As newly hired teachers they were given extra assigned task by the school principal. Since the two of them have no classroom yet they stayed at the principal’s office during their vacant time.

Rosemarie L. Alcala, Kristin Ara B. Gonzales, and Ferly Mariz S. Larino are the new teachers in our school. Miss Rosemarie is teaching grade one pupil although she experienced teaching in private school. She still had lots of adjustments because most of her pupils are non-readers which challenge her a lot.

Miss Kristin Ara is teaching grade three pupils, she was a former high school teacher, that’s why she’s still in her adjustment period. Meanwhile, Ma’am Mariz is teaching grade four and five pupils. She’s trying her best and according to her, although it’s hard teaching pupils at public school, she will still pursue teaching because it is her passion. In life there are lots of challenges, mostly in the field of teaching. But no matter how hard the work is everything would be possible if your heart is in it.

More than just like a zombie

The movie, Train to Busan is a sad horrifying movie, in which a virus spreads in the whole country of Korea and only Busan succeeded in initial defense. The main characters are Seokwoo and his daughter Soo-an. Her father was selfish for he only thinks of himself and his dying business to the point wherein he rarely spends time with Soo-an.

Unlike any scary films, this movie does not only revolves on a spread of virus that turns humans into zombies once bitten, it also evokes the selflessness a person has when it comes to their children.

This movie tries to highlight the idea that each one of us, may we be cruel or not, has goodness in our hearts. It also tries to tell us that before it’s too late, we must show our endearment to our loved ones. That we must spend quality time with them.

This only goes to show that not all horror movies are scary, one exception is the most popular horror film of the year; Train to Busan. Because this movie is more than just a zombie.

When was the last time you say ‘thank you’ or ‘I love you’ to your mother and father? Let me guess; is it during the last mother or father’s day? Is it during their last birthdays or last Christmas?

God is so good that aside from His heavenly love, He has given us a set of parents to nurture and guide us. From womb until where we stand right now our parents have endured the most sacrifices for us. They are most willing to give up everything in life for the sake of their children. The Filipino proverb is definitely true ‘Isusubo na lang ng magulang, ibibigay pa sa anak.’ They will do everything for us, even if it causes them great pain or even their life.

They will work from day to night just to give us our needs and to provide us a better life in the future. They might sometimes scold us, shout at us and give us corporal punishment, but at the end of the day no matter how much they got mad at us because of our wrong doings they will still be the first one to approach us and pamper

Our mother and father are not just our parents; they are also our comrade, comforter, savior, and most importantly our hero. Whenever we have problems, be it financial or personal, they are always there to attend to us. They weep when we cry. They laugh when we smile. They are being hysterical when we’re in pain. They know the sound and smell of our fart. They know the kinds of joke that would make us laugh and the kind of movies that made us teary-eyed. No wonder we share the same flesh and blood.

Thanking our parents and letting them feel our love might be a little hard and a little embarrassing to most of us. We find it hard to express our feelings and be vocal about it. But hey, would you rather express your love for them now or just manage to regret it later? We must let our parents know how much we care and love them while they are still able, alive and kicking. Being a daughter and a mother myself, I know that one of the greatest feelings a child could have is to see her parents smile and know that she is the reason behind it.

EDITORIAL Abusive Play

Playing is fun. It can make us perspire and laugh. A big decision will set unto us. Are we choosing computer games, physical sports or ‘laro ng lahi’?

According to the survey, our teachers in their generation are loves to play also. They usually play laro ng lahi such as patintero, Chinese garter, piko and luksong lubid. Some of these games are continuously disappearing today.

We believe that laro ng lahi is better than computer games because it can exercise our minds and body. It is really nice to play under the heat of the sun and meet other friends. There are also some games to choose like playing basketball, badminton, tennis and other outdoor games.

We can conclude that playing computer games is not a good habit. It makes us unhealthy for the screen’s radiation can affect our eyes. Some believe that sitting for hours is like smoking. Other children skip their meals because they are hook in front of the screen. Parents need to set time for their children to play computer games.

We should balance our time to rest and play. We should not do away to think our health because Health is Wealth. Whatever we do it will affect us.
