Textual Analysis of ‘The Ring’ By Zak Foreman

• This is a mid-shot of all the characters in the film shown to us, suggesting that less will return and this is their last time together. The misc-en-scene shows that theyre going somewhere dangerous as theyre wearing protective helmets

• This is the opening shot of the trailer, it is a wide shot which is able to show us the large and very ‘samey’ landscape, foreboding that people could get lost and or suffer from confusion. The characters are shown to be happy embarking on their adventure through this scene, with no clue as to what will happen.

• The characters are forced into tight claustrophobic areas with little or no escape, this limits camera angles to around handheld and no more than mid shot, making it feel like you're much closer to the action and almost in the action with the victim

• This close up shows the sheer terror of the victim, close ups are effective as they show emotion well, we can also see clearly that there is no one else around that can help her.

• The misc-en-scene and light are cleverly used to show their lack of resources available and that they don’t know where they're going. The light only points in one direction to show they're vulnerable from other areas to attack.

• They're in very low light and are only visible under a night vision camera, this adds to the fear as they're is no way of being able to see anything that might attack them, the shakiness and standard definition adds to the fear as you could see something that wasn’t there, or vise versa.
