- The first issue of Zawia has the title and the theme: ‘Change’. - Contributions were expected to relate their contributions to that theme. - The theme was described in the issue brief document. - The document included a general statement and 4 proposed subthemes that were considered as initiators of ideas rather than limitations. - The proposed subthemes are only a collection of topics that we find interesting and relevant to the general statement, a collection of questions that we feel should be asked.
يحمل العدد األول من زاويـــة عنوان و موضوع( :التغيري). كان عىل املشاركون ىف العدد ان يربطوا أعاملهم املشاركة لهذا املوضوع. تم رشح موضوع العدد بالتفصيل ىف مستند (موضوع العدد). إحتوى املستند عىل بيان عام و عىل 4موضوعات فرعية مقرتحة ,تم إعتبارهم محفذات فكرية أكرث منها محددات. مثَّلت املوضوعات الفرعية املقرتحة مجموعة من املواضيع التى وجدناها مش ّوقة و متعلقة للبيان العام.كانت تلك املوضوعات ىف شكل مجموعة من األسئلة التى شعرنا برضورة طرحها.

Statement: CHANGE Significantly changing realities imposed on all social, political and economic systems definitely require suitable transformations. It is within this complex global situation and continuous fluctuations; that today’s architects and designers are forced to operate. On one side, the profession suffers from large underemployment or even unemployment, while those in business chase after fewer projects for less money. On the other side, the opportunities allowed by these rapid changes and fluctuations, a serious restructuring of current socio-political and economic systems, along with the empowering caused by social media networks, all pose questions about the role of design, architecture and urbanism in this new world. If architectural thinking is continuously questioning and critiquing the status quo, is it, then, capable of addressing its relation to political and economic structures, and societal change in renewed vigor? Can architecture reject current rules dictated by developers and banks contributing something invaluable to this extraordinary process of change? Is architecture capable of rejecting privatization and financialization, and constructing new strategies, processes or institutions with a deeper sense of social responsibility and collectiveness? Will architects and designers wait for the dust to settle and react, or will they actively participate in the remaking process? Will they embrace the changing ideals, the new modes of operation, or will they remain isolated? To what extent are they willing to help better people’s lives rather than focusing on glorifying design or architecture? Will their political discussions remain skillfully abstract rather than addressing the real issues of class and power? After years of irrelevancy, distance, and weakness, could this chance be a new stance for architecture? An opportunity to propose not ideal worlds, but suitable ones?
تغييـــــــر:املوضــوع وأصبح عىل عاتق،إن التغريات الحالية يف حقائق النظم االجتامعية واالقتصادية والسياسية تتطلب مجموعة من التحوالت الفكرية املصاحبة فمن ناحية نجد أن، ونجد هذا الوضع الصعب متمثل يف عدة اوجه.املعامري و املصمم العمل يف ظل هذه االوضاع املعقدة والتقلبات املستمرة وحتى أولئك املامرسني يف السوق يسعون للحصول عىل عدد مشاريع أقل،املهنة تعاين حاليا من العاملة الزائدة بل البطالة يف كثري من األحيان ومن ناحية اخرى نجد ازدياد الفرص يف ظل هذه التغريات الرسيعة و التحوالت املستمرة واعادة هيكلة النظم االجتامعية.يف مقابل مادي اصغر كل هذا يطرح املزيد من التساؤالت عن دور التصميم و,والسياسية واالقتصادية باالضافة اىل التأثري الناتج عن شبكات التواصل اإلجتامعية فهل تستطيع دراسة, واذا كانت النظريات املعامرية تناقش وتنتقد دوما األوضاع املعارصة. العامرة و التخطيط العمراين يف هذا العامل الجديد عالقتها الحالية مع النظم السياسية واالقتصادية و التغريات املجتمعية ولكن بصياغة جديدة؟ هل تستطيع العامرة رفض كل القواعد واألطر الحالية التي يضعها املستثمرون والبنوك وتشارك يف هذه املرحلة من التغريات الغري مسبوقة؟ هل تستطيع العامرة رفض الخصخصة و الرأساملية لتضع أسس واسرتاتيجيات بل وكيانات جديدة تستطيع أن تأخذ عىل عاتقها بشكل أعمق واكرث اتصاالً مسئوليتها تجاه املجتمع ؟ هل سينتظر املعامريون العاصفة لتهدأ ثم يبدأوا يف التعامل مع هذه األوضاع أم أنهم سيشاركون يف صنع هذا التغيري ؟ هل سيتبنوا هذه القيم الجديدة واالساليب املستحدثة أم سيظلوا معزولني عام يحدث؟ اىل أي مدى قد تصل رغبتهم يف تحسني حياة املجتمع بدالً من الرتكيز عىل تقديس العامرة بشكلٍ مطلق ؟ هل سيظل حوارهم السيايس مجرد ونظري بدالً من إلتامس املواضيع الحقيقية للسلطة و الطبقات؟ هل تكون هذه فرصة جديدة للعامرة؟ فرصة القرتاح عوامل مناسبة بدال من عوامل مثالية؟, بعد عقود من العزلة والضعف واالنفصال عن الواقع

Grima studied architecture at the AA in London. He directed the New York gallery Storefront for Art and Architecture. He is the editor of Domus. He has taught architecture at the Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design (Moscow) and Trondheim University (Norway).
