Definitions Dairy snacks A dairy snack is a small portion of food not meant to be eaten as a main meal of the day (breakfast, lunch or dinner) but rather to assuage a person’s hunger between these meals, providing a brief supply of energy for the body. Dairy snack foods are typically designed to be portable, quick and satisfying. The following outlines the type of products included within the definition for each product category: Cheese Includes individually-wrapped single-portion sized cheese, string cheese, cheese sticks, and cheese-dominated lunch/snack packs with ‘dippers’. Examples are Mini Babybel, Cheestrings, and Dairylea Dunkers. Excludes slices and spreads such as processed triangle portions. Desserts Includes on-the-go packaged desserts (i.e. no spoon required) and mini-sized versions of dairy desserts in single pots. Example is Mini Müller Rice. Excludes twin/split pot desserts. Fromage Frais On-the-go packaged fromage frais (i.e. no spoon required). Examples is Frubes. Yogurts Includes on-the-go packaged yogurts (i.e. no spoon required) and mini-sized versions of yogurts in single pots. Examples are Nestlé Munch Bunch Squashums and Müller Mini Corners. Excludes single serve pots with added snack element such as cereal. NB: Ice cream is excluded from the report as it can be eaten as a snack and as a dessert, as are dairy beverages which are generally not considered as snacks. 4
