Protective BIKE Four Peaks 2015 Witness one of the most spectacular mountain bike stage races for ambitious cyclists from 17 to 18 June 2015! Stage one begins in the Alpine World Ski Championship venue of Bad Kleinkirchheim, goes up to Kaiserburg mountain via Feldpannalm to Lake Afritzer See, then up to the Kolmnock summit and along the Franz-Klammer slope back to Bad Kleinkirchheim. Around 1,000 cyclists from more than 20 countries are expected to tackle a total distance of 260 kilometers and a difference in altitude of more than 8,750 meters (www.bike-fourpeaks.de).

Young Philharmonic Orchestra in BKK Celebrating the 20th year anniversary of the “Wenn die Musi spielt” summer open air event, Bad Kleinkirchheim once again will be hosting a cultural highlight for music lovers. Over a period of three days and accompanied by culinary starlight hikes, the Vienna Young Philharmonic Orchestra will perform classical masterpieces in the Carinthian Nockberge mountains. With art projects such as the “public art walk” led by Hamish Fulton or “Hotel Konkurrenz” by the Austrian artists’ group AO&, Bad Kleinkirchheim already demonstrated last year that “art” and “hiking” can become a harmonious unit. Starting in spring 2015, a few specific installations on six varied hiking trails will reference the cultural scenery’s unusual qualities. These are not major incursions into the natural and cultural space; instead, native materials are worked into a very straightforward and appealing design. Bad Kleinkirchheim seeks to attract both hikers and visitors interested in art to the Nockberge mountains by offering seamless mobility and selected rest stops serving up delicious local favorites. The diverse hiking offer is complemented by innovative near field communication for smartphones alongside family-friendly illustrations. All six trails can easily be combined with individual stages of the Alpe Adria long-distance trail.

Junior classics in the Nockberge mountains On Saturday, 18 July 2015, Austria’s elite youth orchestra, the Young Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Michael Lessky, will be a guest at the 20th “Wenn die Musi spielt – Open Air” in Bad Kleinkirchheim and give an exclusive “alpine” concert. The orchestra will play a selection of popular classics by Rossini, Mendelssohn and Verdi to bring the Nockberg mountains to life with the sound of music. Conductor Michael Lessky has intentionally put together a tasty program, from gentle love songs for a summer’s evening to the passion and ecstasy of Bolero. If this has whetted your appetite, you can experience the artists close up at the “Stadlgespräche” interviews and the culinary starlight hikes.
