CENTRE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
LIGHT CATCHER Children in Singapore will probably never get to experience the beauty of Milky Way thanks to a little-known environmental disturbance - light pollution. Other than losing the opportunity to live under pristine sky conditions. Light pollution is also blamed for inefficient energy usage, compromising health and disrupting ecosystems. By capturing and directing the light spillage from urban environment into buildings, Light Catcher, as a centre for climate change, aims to raise the awareness of light pollution and promote energy saving and efficiency. Galleries of different lighting conditions will provide experiential learning to educate the general public the importance of maximising the natural light in the day and artificial light in the night. An underground playground and cafe in the dark will reactivate our other senses in the dark while a community observatory serves as a node to bring the school students and nearby residents together, helping them to appreciate our natural night sky.
