CITY MORPHOLOGY Morphology, when applied to urban architecture design, is about the specific characteristics of form, i.e. the height, the width, and the length of a building, and its footprint on the land. With the aim of building a more walkable and livable city in mind, my group has redesigned the layout of our chosen site - a 500 m circle at Rochor area, a neighbourhood with many high-end estates and large percentage of commercial area.

FINAL DESIGN It was especially challenging due the presence of terrain of our site. However, my group used it to our advantage in establishing a highly walkable “Green Spine” and a “Commercial Spine”, a major road marked by the commercial buildings (blue) on both sides.
Opening up green spaces increases the number of available routes to nodes taht are shaded by trees.
Unobstructed South-West area, together with the greenery present allows for a larger volume of higher wind speeds, and provides for a cooler microclimate

DWELLING
A case study was done on the Azuma house in Sumiyoshi, Osaka, by Tadao Ando to better appreciate his philosophy.
His works are characterised by pure form, lucid outline, and strong space enveloped in concrete rectangular forms. The restraint in use of materials and the utter simplicity of the forms produce an austere mood. Ando places his focus on the use of light that has the power to transform pure space into dramatic space.
The design of Azuma house led me to my design, upon satisfying my client’s brief, keep it to the barest minimum of necessary form. I examined the importance of a courtyard like transitional space, as the centre of communication, the source of light, the connection with nature, and the connection with human activity that happens within the house.

ANTROPOMETRICS POP-UP COMMUNITY CAPSULE This project involves designing a multi-purpose pop-up structure, with an emphasis on antropometrics and flexibility, to enliven the community life. I believe that public spaces can only be enlivened when users feel comfortable. Instead of creating a structure that is completely open, I would like to empower the users with the freedom to be in a relative “enclosed” space even in public area. Iteration 1: space for individual to meditate. Iteration 2: a rotating ring to inject the “fun” element.
