DISCRIPTION:

BACKGROUND

Joakim has very little previous chinese knowledge, but is willing to learn more. He hopes to learn some basic chinese and ”101 of chinese culture”, but is unsure what to expect. He thinks that even basic level chinese will help him in future career and wants to show that he has some knowledge in chinese, even on very superficial level. He is willing to do some effort in learning language, because is currently in China.

PERSONA

Accoding to our research, there are a big group of international students who are eager to learn Chinese but get less motivated because of missing some classes, the inefficiency in class, no effective practice homework afterclass, etc. They do not expect much on their Chinese but expect more practical homework to motivate them to learn Chinese. They would like to have more continuous learning and more feedback and push from the teacher, because they are not self-motivated, but are willing to learn. We redesign the service of Chinese Class for this kind of students.

FRUSTRATION:

- Adventurous - looking for new experiences and interested in travelling - Social-oriented - Uses mainly western social media and sources across all platforms ”I came to China because I think it will benefit my future career, and gaining experience from China is surely appreciated by companies. Learning some chinese is surely not going to harm me, although I don’t really know what level I can achieve.”

- lack of feedback and support - Lack of pressure and guidance from teachers. - Time is not flexible so he has to miss some class because of traveling - They feel inconvenient not recognizing Chinese characters. - Can not get much corrected on pronunciation.
