orthern lights were shining bright in the sky when Gerda and the reindeer reached the Finn woman’s home. She was a tiny mysterious woman who had barely any clothes on, since it was very hot in her cottage. Gerda needed to take off her coat, boots, hat and gloves instantly. The Finn woman put a big ice cube on the reindeer’s head. ‘Kai is in the Snow Queen’s palace two miles away from here,’ she said. ‘You can save him only by removing the splinters of the magic mirror from his eye and heart.’ The reindeer worried that Gerda is too small and weak to help her friend, but the Finn woman said: ‘The girl’s great strength lies in her heart.’
W
hen the boat reached the shore, Gerda saw a cherry orchard and a little cottage. There were roses, lilies, daffodils and hyacinths growing in front of it. The flowers were swaying in the wind and each of them was telling a story. An old woman in a huge flowery hat went out of the house. She gave Gerda some cherries to eat and listened to her story about Kai. She did not intend to help the girl, as she wanted to keep her in her house forever. When she combed Gerda’s long hair with a magic comb, she made the girl forget about everything. The old woman removed all the roses from her garden so that they would not remind Gerda of Kai. The girl lived in the colourful cottage, not yearning for anything. One day, however, she noticed a rose painted on the old woman’s hat. She remembered then where she had come from and where she was supposed to go. She ran out of the cottage without saying goodbye in order to find her friend.

Graycie was holding my cell phone. I couldn’t find it before school so I had left it at home. Now I realized that someone wanted me to think that my cell had gone astray. ‘What are you doing?’ I asked. ‘We’re shooting a film,’ the cats replied. ‘With your phone, because we don’t have a camera.’ ‘What kind of film?’ ‘An action and adventure movie, naturally. It will be called Hinkul on a Catless Island. It’s about a brave cat traveler. I’m playing Hinkul,’ Stunter said proudly. He licked his paw and ran it across his whiskers, looking flirtatiously at a group of she-cats from the neighborhood who were watching the production of the movie. ‘Meow!’ They squealed ecstatically when he blew kisses at them.

„We’ll be on time, there is plenty of time left!” I was trying to calm her down. Mum glanced at the big clock in the hall, which is a house of Susie the cuckoo and sighed: „Oh, Eric, now we’ll most certainly be late! Let’s go.” But on that particular day my shoelaces got knotted and I couldn’t put on my shoes. „Boontalk, hurry up!” Mum was looking at me imploringly. „We have time, we’ll be on time,” I answered sluggishly and yawned because I was still very sleepy. „Dear child, time is not made of rubber, you can’t stretch it,” said mum, really upset this time. Suddenly, I had an idea. „Mum! In this case, we have to find this time, cut it in half with scissors, put a rubber band in the middle and stick its ends well so that we can stretch time!” I said happily. „Everyone will be able to do that for the rest of the time!” I added with pride. Mum was standing there in dad’ coat which was too big for her and she looked at me with awe and appreciation. „You know, my son, it’s a brilliant idea!” she called with enthusiasm. „Why didn’t anyone come up with this before? But how can we find this time to cut it in half?” She asked then, slightly worried. „It is no problem,” I replied after giving it some thought. „What we need is a good map. When you have a good map, you can always find the way.” Oh, parents don’t even know the simplest things these days. And I know everything!

In one charming place, ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF A CERTAIN SMALL town, there is a house. Mrs Maria and her teenage grandson John live in this house. Apart from the fact that they are family, they have one more thing in common: their LOVE OF DOGS. There is a HUUUGE GARDEN at the back, where Mrs Maria set up a DOG SHELTER. At the beginning, there were only a couple dozens of dogs, but slowly, more and more people started bringing abandoned dogs there. And sometimes some of the dogs would fall in love with each other and their little puppies came into the world a few months later. Last year in Mrs Maria’s shelter there were a lot of dog couples and MANY

orthern lights were shining bright in the sky when Gerda and the reindeer reached the Finn woman’s home.
She ran out of the cottage without saying goodbye in order to find her friend.

he girl did not enjoy her beautiful carriage for long. In the middle if the forest the was attacked and captured by dangerous robbers. Gerda was brought to their dreary castle over which black birds were flying. However, there was a little robber girl who would not let anybody hurt Gerda, because she wanted to have a companion. In the evening Gerda told the little robber girl about Kai. Some doves resting under the roof were listening to her story and suddenly one of them coo-cooed: ‘We saw Kai! He was sitting in the Snow Queen’s sleigh which flew over the forest towards frosty Lapland.‘
