Distortion-senior-collection Raya Clements The inspiration for my thesis began with an experience of sleep paralysis. I felt as though my muscles were frozen and I was being flung around my bedroom. I likened the shifting of the angles of the room to cubist artworks, and the movement of my body in any moment of time as a distortion of the human form. I developed prints in my own interpretation of cubism and then shifted these images through scanner distortion. I created sculptural drapes in organza to reshape the human form and freeze the body in a moment of motion. The pattern and fashion design based on Changsha city in china.

A zine should be really playful, readable, investigate the deep interesting fact of sleep or/and contain a self-test of your own sleep condition. I don’t want the zine too complicated to understand. Because I find it is really complicated to understand what is REM, what is NREM, how many stages did we experienced during we sleep. It should be really easy to get the point and quickly to understand.The zine is uesd to deliver the fact of sleep, such as different stage of sleeping. It designed to let people know more about sleep, what people do everyday.

Sculpture helps this project to maintain placidity. Light, handcraft paper, sand, typography pieces can be the elements within this. It should based on a story I researched on a personal dream, the endless imagination from the subconscious. It is flexible and blurred.

Human beings have their own life in different geographic position. They experience totally different culture and life. But for one single thing – sleep, wherever you come from, you do it every night. However, a short video here can point out their similarities and differences in their culture to sleep. From where they sleep to what are they sleep habits. There are more to be researched.

is a good entry point for an installation in this project. Wallpaper can easily attract people because of it exaggeration of size. It is like an environment for people to rely on. If I can use the images fro the #whatidreamed research and transform them into several wallpapers to help people understand their dream will be a good approach.
