Each Arts Alliance artist this season is a guide to a new destination. Every performance is a journey which carries us away – and brings us home. The Miracle Worker by William Gibson

Few stories are as timeless — or reveal the courage and resilience of the human spirit — as The Miracle Worker. This stirring dramatization of the early life of Helen Keller has been mesmerizing audiences for decades. The Miracle Worker tells the story of young Helen Keller, deaf and blind since infancy, who finds her way into the world of knowledge and understanding with the help of Annie Sullivan, her gifted tutor. In some of the most turbulent and emotion-packed scenes ever presented on the stage, Helen overcomes rage and confusion to triumph over her physical disabilities.

With this production, Montana Repertory Theatre continues to explore great American plays which penetrate the core of human experience. Performing Arts Experiences for Students Which Expand and Enhance Learning… Each season, the Arts Alliance provides a diversity of performing arts experiences for students in grades Pre-K through 12. Professional artists (actors, singers, musicians, and dancers) – from around the world – travel to Lufkin to perform during the school day for students and their teachers. Each show has connections to school curricula and offers a unique opportunity for teachers to integrate the arts into their daily lesson planning and individual teaching styles. Teacher study guides are available for most performances. The shows are imaginatively conceived, artistically produced, and provide relevant, entertaining, and enriching experiences for students. In 2013-14, three outstanding productions will come to the Temple Theater stage: Alice in Wonderland (Théâtre Tout à Trac/Montreal), Stuart Little (Dallas Children’s Theatre), and The Miracle Worker (Montana Repertory Theatre). Each show is age-specific and selected by the Arts Alliance to encourage the power of imagination, creative thinking, and self-expression.

She prefers to play and daydream in her father’s study, where she stumbles across a strange rabbit who nibbles on books. Faithful to the unbridled humor and madness of the original tale, this adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s famous book is crammed with surprises, which bring the vast range of colorful characters to life. The performance is an homage to reading and features ingenious scenery, in which each book on the shelf becomes a door to the next adventure.

LOCATION Temple Theater is located on the south end of the Angelina College campus, near the intersection of US 59 and College Drive (FM 819) in Lufkin. Enter the parking lot from College Drive. PARKING Please allow additional parking time Monday-Thursday, as Angelina College classes are in session. VIP PARKING Reserved, close-in parking is available for contributors who donate $1,000 or more to the Arts Alliance. LATECOMERS All performances begin promptly at the time indicated on the ticket. To minimize disruptions, latecomers are seated at appropriate intervals in the performance, at the direction and discretion of the artists. YOUR RESERVED SEAT is not guaranteed if you arrive after a performance begins. You will be seated in the closest available seat to the door. You may move to your reserved seat at intermission.
