8. Dinner With A Side Dish of Death
The dishes remained soaking. The vacuum was not turned off. The bathroom tap dripped and trickled, pitter pattering every few seconds. Photo frames were not straightened nor was the laundry brought in from the line. The grocery bags sat on the counter top, the pantry door left open. All seemed normal except for the extensive blood marks left all over the kitchen bench and on the splash back. Oh wait, it was just mess left over from dinner’s preparation. Who would have thought cutting up your own beef would have been so messy? Disposable gloves were dropped on the floor, along with crumpled serviettes and tea towels.
The occupants of the house must really have loved their alcoholic spirits if their large display of clear, glass bottles on the bench was anything to go by. It was pretty risky of them to leave all their bottles unlabelled. Must make the drinking more fun though, like a surprise. The table had been nicely set. Matching cutlery all around, full sets of crystal champagne glasses, no chipped plates and a beautiful floral table cloth to go along with the bouquet of roses and poison ivy placed in the centre of the table.

10 Dinner With A Side Dish of Death
The maid had really out done themselves with their presentation skills here, quite immaculate indeed. All set below the shining lights of the million dollar chandelier, a romantic dinner of wagyu beef and mushrooms, with all other assortments of delicious side dishes. The beef had barely been touched, just a few bites here and there had been eaten already. The couple who began eating just laid there still. This must have been such an insult to the chef, who would be devastated to know their food was not being enjoyed. One’s head, concussed on the table, was marked with red stains. He must have been pretty clumsy to knock his glass of red wine like that. The other had fallen off their chair, laying face down on the floor. The wagyu was going cold, as the heart shaped cake waited to be consumed at the other end of the table. Disturbing the silence, foot steps perched over the occupant’s body on the floor. With a clear bottle in hand, the figure reached down and untied the diamond necklace from the lifeless body, shoving it in her pocket. The figure then reached over the table, picked up a candle and took it with her. She walked outside, took off her cooking apron and threw it on the floor, before chucking the candle on top of it, leaving nothing but a trail of ash and smoke.
She placed the necklace around her neck and departed the area, leaving behind her vacuum, cleaning materials and groceries. Police are still investigating the scene and have been unable to trace the woman. If you have any details, please call crime stoppers in regards to the wagyu deaths.

Modern Warfare In recent times, nutrition is recognised as a very important tool for supplying energy and boosting the morale of veterans. A great deal of research has been conducted to determine ways that militaryissued food can contain as many nutrients as possible in each bite. Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) have become a standard means of feeding soldiers across the world. There is now a lot of variety in these meals, too. 24 main entrees and 150 supplemental options are currently available. These meals now consider dietary requirements as well, such as providing vegetarian options. The MRE pizza, released in 2018, can even stay fresh for up to three years! Not all these foods were received well by veterans, though. “Charms” candy treats were considered bad luck amongst US soldiers. If someone ate them, their comrades would sometimes yell at them for putting their squad at risk!
Ancient Warfare Ancient Roman soldiers were given a pound of meat each day, which made it necessary for approximately 120 sheep to be killed each day to feed them. They also relied heavily on wheat and barley to supply them with much-needed energy in the form of carbohydrates. For this reason, they carried around hand mills in order to grind grain on the battlefield. Using this grain, they could produce a hard bread called “paximadion”, which didn’t spoil for a long time. Soldiers were given diluted wine to drink. Even fresh meat, bacon, vegetables and cheese was available to the army. In a pinch, the Romans also hunted wild animals and traded with other villages on or near the battlefield. The Spartans were only given a black broth consisting of pig’s legs, vinegar, and blood. The concoction was so disgusting, that soldiers were more willing to die in battle to avoid having to eat it.

The World Wars At Gallipoli during the First World War, Australian soldiers ate preserved meats, such as corned beef. Beans, jams, marmalade, condensed milk and oatmeal biscuits (“Anzac biscuits”) which were battlefield staples. Fresh fruits and vegetables were virtually non-existent. The preserved foods that were frequently consumed often made them very thirsty, so water was in high demand. The biscuits often caused the gums to bleed and ulcers to form, occasionally resulting in infection. Turkish soldiers ate grape compote, barley soup, bread, and fresh produce foraged from the land. They were often forced to skip meals. During ceasefires, the soldiers from opposing sides would trade food with each other. British forces were given bread, cheese, vegetables, bacon, mustard, and rum. Spoons were used most often to eat their meals. Tinned meat and vegetables were made into a stew using a small frying pan over an open flame. The Germans received meat, potatoes, and large alcohol allowances. Their rations shrank drastically for as the war continued. By 1918, most soldiers only received turnip stew and turnip bread.
14. Feasting at the Front Line
In the Second World War, there were two main kinds of rations distributed to US troops. Combat troops received “C-Rations” and airborne regiments received “K-Rations”. The C-Rations contained a main dish, such as stews, spaghetti, beans and franks, along with extras like tinned fruit, ham, eggs, chewing gum, chocolate, coffee, cheese, and crackers. These foods could be eaten cold, but many preferred to heat them before consumption. The K-Rations were given to soldiers on short-term missions, such as paratroopers. The packs included meat, eggs, crackers, candy, chewing gum, sugary drinks, and salt tablets. These packs contained less calories and nutrients than the C-Rations, making light to carry around, but unsatisfying. Both of these rations also included cigarettes. There was also a D-Ration for emergencies, which was merely a chocolate bar.
The American revolution Food was scarce, so every part of the animal was used. This led to the consumption of delicacies such as blood pudding. Private Joseph Plum Martin recorded that he resorted to eating boiled ox liver and sheep’s head, the former of which gave him a bad stomach-ache. “Firecake” was made from flour and water alone. It was only made when absolutely necessary due to its unbearable blandness and density. Maggots and weevils often made their way into the flour supplies and they were cooked into the dish. Leftover pig parts were made into “scrapple” by being seasoned with salt, pepper, Indian meal, and then fried in lard.
Continental Congress decreed in 1775 that every man in the army should be allotted a daily provision of meat or fish, peas, beans, a pint of milk and a pound of bread or flour. Unfortunately, this idea was unsustainable because they were unable to collect taxes from their people to fund the effort. Troops under George Washington often had to march for days without rations. A lot of the perishable items were poor in quality, which caused soldiers to get ill or die. Many soldiers contracted scurvy, which led them to add cider, sauerkraut and fresh Final Meals 4 15. vegetables to their soldiers’ rations.
