A NEXUS is the pinnacle where multiple elements converge, interact and collaborate. The New Xinzhuang Metro Station is a future nexus between physical and simulated networks dedicated to expanding the architectural spectrum from a regional transportation hub to a vivid conjunction of travel, recreation and engagement market of the community. The Redevelopment of Xinzhuang Station will redefine the role of transit relating to the new lifestyle of freedom, customization, and recreation, and spread as a prototypic node with metro access in future megacities.

Situating in Southwest suburb of Shanghai, the 25-yearold Xinzhuang Station has been complaint for its coarse function organization and outdated circulation in recent years which necessitates a complete redefinition towards the regional transit in 2030. The New Xinzhuang station will first and foremost extend the urban fabric over rails and driveways that rifted the community in order to create a continuous recreation belt across the rail line.

The extraordinary construction speed brings both opportunities and challenges in the last 15 years and will extend to the foreseeable future: the exploding population would give rise to numerous satellite townships to Decentralize urban resources; the sprawling metro system would Integrate logistic delivery to enclose the commercial chain; the skyrocketing web use would remove commute via Mobilized working venues. The New Xinzhuang Station is thereby oriented towards a nexus of transit Freedom, Customized retail and communal Recreation.

The shopping center takes advantage of the vacant lot between traffic corridors and intersects with the green belt of the surrounding landscapes. In terms of circulation, the bypassing trains will take the outermost track to avoid unnecessary stops whereas the arrival trains enter the central platform to set up a temporal mall with specified merchandises. The two wings of station, meanwhile, spread out bilaterally beyond traffic interruption to stitch the community with recreation facilities.

Aside from the leisure programs, the New Xinzhuang Station accommodate two types of trains simultaneously for the purpose of passenger and freight transportation apiece. The Passenger Trains would only have one car with a detachable passenger capsule that can be switched at the revolving dock. The Freight Train carries department stores featuring products of a certain franchise. These two models will lay the foundation of the operative pattern of Xinzhuang Station and diversify the interactions between different scenarios.

The building is very segmented in terms of each specialized activity. The top floor is a lifted boarding platform with direct elevator access from the street level; The north wing is an exhibition portal full of cultural manifestos. The rock and falling water represents the leisure garden of South China featuring indoor food court and cultural exhibition. The south wing is comprised of an array of sports starting from the outdoor skate park to indoor basketball courts. The shopping center is hidden on the lower center perpendicular to the bridge between neighborhoods creating an extensive view at the intersection.

Known for heavy industry tradition, the District of Baoshan is planning to resurrect from the obsoleted impression. Coasting the dramatic waterfront in East China Sea, the city was scheming a vast area of land for public recreation pioneered by the Winder Tower CBD. With the investment of Shanghai International Port Group, the previous marsh land is turning into a spectacular compound of office, hotel, retail and SOHO.

PARK The new development is dedicated to develop a series of parks and eco systems for leisure living, working and entertaining in order to reverse the clinched impression of the community. Our project sits on the junction of coast drive and tunnel that speaks on behalf of the entire region, a symbolic area that has to tie into new adjacent community and park system. In the meantime, the design could not abandon the heritage of the region.

This scheme embodies a sense of unification that summons all buildings into a single concept. The museum sits in between flares that wrap around the observation tower and elevate to the top which ultimately merged into one skin. The wrapping skin of the lower level, flips and converges into the central plaza to enhance centralization. The center of plaza sinks down to the underground dinning plaza and hence merges into the gigantic retail level.
