week1 Introduction to constructing materials: Strength: strong or weak Stiffness:stiff ,flexible, stretchy,or floppy Shape:mono-dimensionalďźˆlinear),bi-dimensional(planar)or tridimensional Material behaviors isotropic or anisotropic Economy how expensive?what impact? Or environment? How far? Sustainability :how efficiently Force Any influence that produces a change in the shape or movement of a body (both magnitude and direction, represent by an arrow) Basic structure forces Tension forces Tension forces stretch and elongate the material
Compression forces The opposite effect of a tension force
Compression forces result in the shortening of the material
Structural system:be designed and constructed to support an transmit applied gravity and lateral loads safety to the ground exceeding the allowable stresses in its members. Enclosure system:shell or envelope of a building, consisting of the roof exterior walls, windows and doors. Mechanical system:building provide essential services to building Water system, sewage system eletrical system

Our group decided to build the tower in the shape of circle because for stability The process of building are as above We have leave a number of hoes with the tower that they are doors and windows respectively. Our tower is the most tallest one among the class.i think the reason is that ours structure is quite stable. In the process that one of the other group’s tower fell down, theirs are built in the square bottom shape. When on e or more brick near the corner move, the tower are no longer stable. The construction system is structural system because it is designed and constructed to support and transmit applied gravity and lateral loads safety to the ground exceeding the allowable stresses in its members. We have had difficulties when me made the door I think we can build higher than this but there are materials limited. The material is wood that is not very heavy and smooth. I don’t know how tall can it holds that it has a few holes, i guess that when it reach to a particular point, the wood on the bottom especially the wood nearby the door and the window will fall down . After we finishing the task , we began to test its stability that we use another wood to hit it .The tower did not fall down. Then wen take some of the wood bricks out.we take the bricks from different locations, some from the top ,the bottom ,even some near the holes. The tower fall down when i was taking one brick near its window. I think it is
because the bottom are very stable but the middle part of that are the keys that the hole can not be hold on when i take ou the brick beside.
Week 2 Structural joint: Roller joints allow to slide and rotate Pin joints allow to rotate , not allow to slide Fixed joints in all direction Frame Load, roof, floor Stability Stability is that when all the forces acted on the sturcture have a zero algebraic sum Column Columns are rigid, relatively slender structural members designed primary to support axial compressive loads applied to the ends of members Loads Dynamic ,static

On the lecture , we do the water tank test. It is a test about the mass that the structure can afford.
It can be seen from the lecture that the weight which the pins can afford the bowl is much more for the right one. Although the material for both of the bowls and pins are not stable which is pretty flexible, we can find the strong mass can be hold for the shorter structure.
And the load path diagram are as the arrows indicate which to the ground.
Tutorial activities Our group use a unique structure other than the other groups. We think the triangle is more stable.
For this pattern we can reach a height that it make take long time for the group which use the square structure:
The material is very light and flexible. First, our group cut the material into 20pieces. We thought that if we built it into a squre bottom, it may cost a lot of material that can not reach the height. We plan to built it like pyramid ways and add some additional beams in order to make it stable at the last.the load path are as following :
And the photos:
Out tower is not stable at the bottom in fact that i think it need more beams maybe rebuild it into a square bottom will help a lot
