GROUNDWORK FOR APARTMENTS AT BEATRIXPARK

Groundwork has kicked off for construction of two apartment buildings along Beatrixpark, which will occupy the area between the St. Nicolaaslyceum and the Kapel and Convict buildings.

Altogether we’re building 450 residences at Beatrixpark, on two plots known as 2 and 6/7. Construction on plot 6/7 (300 units) will start in 2021, and on plot 2 (150 units) thereaft er. Both buildings are set to be completed in 2024. An important component of the building plans is the careful draft ing of a new landscaping plan for the public space around the apartment buildings.

CONSTRUCTION PREPARATIONS Throughout this year we’ll be preparing this area for construction. All of the trees that stood here had to be felled. Apart from removing trees, we had to get rid of the Japanese knotweed found here,

which is a tremendously aggressive exotic weed. Also on the docket is draining the stretch of water between Kapel and the building site. By gradually draining the water from east to west, we’ll give aquatic life an opportunity to migrate to the main waterway. This work will also factor in the bird breeding season and fish and amphibian spawning seasons, meaning the water will be drained between midJuly and November 2020. The area will be replanted aft er construction.
