Floods are a destructive natural disaster, and they can occur in any territory. While f looding can happen in any season, certain areas tend to be at higher risk during particular times of the year. It is vital to be prepared for f looding, especially for people who live near water bodies or low-lying areas. Preparation can take the following forms:

Evacuation If your area is at risk of flooding, the best action is to evacuate before the water levels begin to rise. Work with local officials in cases of community evacuations or move to higher ground. Failure to move can result in being trapped by floodwater, which can range from a few inches to several feet above the ground.

Protecting Property Personal property can also be protected before a flood occurs. Elevating utilities such as appliances, heating systems, sockets and switches will ensure they are less prone to water damage. Basements can be waterproofed and have pumps installed to remove excess water. Clear out gutters to ensure no debris is blocking the water flow and keep valuables in a safe place.

Supplies It helps to have a supply of essential items stored so you can grab them quickly if evacuation is necessary.
