Whole site analysis Location & goals Saginaw Forest is an 80 acre parcel of land owned by the University of Michigan, located 5 miles west of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Most of the site is undeveloped and used as a field research area.
In this project, we developed ecologically valuable areas for a small office park, meeting the goals of supporting human wellbeing and the ecological wellbeing. The goals includes, providing different size outdoor gathering places, encouraging people to go outside, sculptural considerations that modify form for wellbeing outcomes, and good connections with the rest of the forest.

In the master plan, we redesign the entrance of the Saginaw Forest, switching the main entrance to the left, which is opposite to the residential areas. This design provides a pedestrian entrance for people to walk in, to gather, which is separated from the auto entrance; at the same time providing parking spots for public, it makes the access more convenient. Flowering plants are planted at the entrance, attracting people to come in.

Location & context
Function analysis
Maple Village is a shopping center in the far west side of Ann Arbor on Maple Road between Dexter Avenue and Jackson Road. It just locates in an area which forms a gap among matrix.
These five graphics show different function analysis of the site after design.
The purpose of the design is to achieve the stepping stones function within this shopping center to facilitate desirable flows of organisms, maximize carbon storage in vegetation and soils and buffer west and northwest winter winds for people to move.
