Exhibition Overview — 전시개요
Artphil은 1990년 국내 최초로 설립된 유학전문 미술학원으로서 전 세계 문화예술계 를 주도해 나갈 인재들이 연구하는 창조공간입니다.
Artphil에서는 매년 가을에 반 구성원들과 함께 공동작업을 해 볼 수 있는 기회를 마 련합니다. 공동작품은 학생들에게 대형 팀 작업의 스케일을 경험하게 할 뿐만 아니라,
포트폴리오 작품으로 사용할 수 있는 중요한 자료입니다. 학생들은 반별로 함께 작업을
구상하고 의견을 모아 작품을 제작하고 설치하게 됩니다. 이 과정을 통해서 예술창작에
대한 밀도 높고 성숙한 경험들을 나누고 배우게 될 것입니다. 작품들이 현장에 설치되
고 나면 이어서 관객들에게 프레젠테이션하는 시간이 있을 것입니다. 그리고 심사를 거
쳐 선정된 우수 작품들에 대한 시상이 있을 것입니다. 자세한 내용은 다음과 같습니다.

Description — 작품 설명
At the center of this work is an amorphous ‘cocoon,’ symbolizing the boundless possibilities of transformation. When visitors approach, ultrasonic sensors trigger random reactions, causing the cocoon to shift unpredictably—representing the unforeseen directions change can take. This interaction shows how the cocoon appears to grow as visitors draw closer, while it morphs in unexpected ways when they step away, emphasizing that change doesn’t always follow a single path. Surrounding the cocoon is a mesh structure, embodying the accumulated traces of growth and rebirth over time. This web, continuously modified and layered through external factors, visually represents the nonlinear trajectory of change. Visitors experience change as something multifaceted and unpredictable, encountering a space where they themselves become variables that influence the mesh.

Our team’s work, The Paradox of Change, begins with the insight that the opposing concepts of perfection and imperfection are deeply intertwined with human growth. Change is essential to development, yet it is rarely linear or predictable. While change often opens new possibilities and sheds what is outdated, it also brings uncertainty and unexpected outcomes.

Description — 작품 설명
Our development began by exploring the space and being that provided perfect and complete protection. The more we tried to resemble the perfect space, the more we encountered the limit of representing perfection. Since we first only sought perfection, we started to see imperfection with negative perspectives that we should treat imperfection as a defect which should be eliminated. Imperfections are regarded as the source of creativity and shifts to a better state, in art and philosophy. Focusing on the true value that provides diversity, creativity, and change, we intended to visually reinterpret our perspective of perfection within imperfection. 완전한,
기획을 시작했다. 완전한 공간의 재현을 하려고 할
수록 완전함의 재현에 대한 한계에 봉착하게 되었다.
끊임없이 완전한 것, 이상적인 상태만을 추구하며 많은
압박감을 느꼈다. 완전함을 추구할 수록 우리는 불완
전함을 결함으로 취급하고 없애야겠다는 부정적 시각
에 집중하게 되었다. 그러나 예술과 철학에서는 불완전 함이 오히려 창조성과 변화의 원천으로 여겨진다. 이에
따라 헤겔의 변증적 사고와 마찬가지로, 불완전성이 결
함이 아닌 새로운 가능성을 촉발하는 요소로 작용한다 는 전통적인 사고방식은 우리에게 불완전함의 가치를 다시 한번 성찰하게 만든다. 이로써 다양성과 창조성, 변화의 기회를 제공한다는 점에 착안하여 이를 시각적
으로 재해석하고자 하였다.

People of diverse backgrounds, ages and genders collaborated to deeply contemplate the definition of ‘perfection’ through one’s distinctive perspectives and experiences. The question arised whether a work of art without a single error means perfection, or whether meeting social standards means perfect human beings. We came to the realization that humans are inherently imperfect, and that accepting this imperfection is actually the first step in acknowledging humanity. As a result, the motivation for planning this exhibition began with the desire to illuminate the true beauty found in our imperfections with various stories embedded in it.
다양한 배경과 나이, 성별을 가진 사람들이 함께 작업
하며 각자의 경험과 관점으로 완벽함의 정의에 대해
깊이 고민하게 되었다. 서로의 의견을 주고받고 때로
는 갈등을 겪으며, 우리는 완벽이란 무엇인지에 대해
자문하였다. 예술 작품에 있어 하나의 오차도 없는 표
현이 완벽함을 의미하는지, 혹은 많은 재산과 사회적
기준을 충족하는 것이 완벽한 인간을 의미하는지 질
문이 떠올랐다. 그러나 이러한 질문들에 대해 우리는
“예”라고 답하기 어려웠다. 인간은 본래 불완전한 존
재로 태어났으며, 이 불완전함을 받아들이는 것이 인
간성을 인정하는 첫걸음이라는 깨달음에 이르렀다.
이로써 이 전시를 기획하게 된 동기는 바로 이 불완전
함 속에서 발견되는 고유한 아름다움과 그 안에 담긴 다양한 이야기들을 조명하려는 열망에서 출발하였다.
영상 설명
우리가 가장 완전하다고 생각했던 구의 형태는
재현할 수 없었다. 하지만 그래픽 속 구는 인간
의 육안으로는 완전한 구처럼 보인다.영상속에
서의 구는 플라톤의 이데아의 메타포이다. 근접
할 수 없지만, 있다고 믿는 것이다. 우리가 구라
고 하는 것은 태양, 달, 별 우리가 절대적이라고
믿는 것이다. 이의 형태는 멀리서 바라봤을때는
완전한 구의 형태에 가깝기에, 사람들에게 구가
완전하다는 인식이 강하다. 수학적 개념에서도
비슷하다. 개념에 의하면 구의 원주는 끊임없이
확장해야 한다. 하지만, 우리가 아는 실재하는
구는 확장하지 않는다. 이는 우리가 추구하는 완
벽함의 기준에 대한 불완전함도 같이 보여준다.

Description — 작품 설명
The title of our exhibition is, Uncomfortable Perfection. This exhibition is divided into two themes: “The appearance of modern people who want to look uncomfortable but perfect” and “The experience of comfortably accepting one’s imperfections.”
The first space, Zone A, expresses the appearance of modern people who endure inconveniences in order to look perfect in the eyes of others. Everyday objects are covered with fabric, making it difficult to recognize them even though they are frequently used. Zone C, is designed to allow us to honestly explore the inner selves of modern people. From the moment you enter the entrance, the black chiffon draped along the hallway subtly obscures your view, symbolically expressing how difficult it is for us to face our inner selves completely honestly.
This exhibition aims to shed new light on the contradictory nature of modern people trying to appear perfect while ignoring their imperfections, and to convey that accepting oneself as is can lead to true comfort.
모습”과 “자신의 불완전함을 편안하게 받아들이
는 경험”이라는 두 가지 주제를 중심으로 공간을 나누
어 구성하였습니다.
첫 번째 공간인 A존은 타인의 시선에 완벽해 보이고자
불편을 감수하는 현대인의 모습을 표현하고 있습니다.
바닥에 놓인 쿠션들은 겉보기에 포근하고 안락하게 보
이지만, 관람자가 직접 들어가 체험하는 순간 걷기 힘
들고 불편하도록 설계되었습니다. C존은 현대인의 내
면을 진솔하게 탐구할 수 있도록 설계되었습니다. 입구
에 들어서는 순간부터 복도를 따라 드리워진 검정색 쉬 폰이 은근히 시야를 가리며, 우리가 스스로의 내면을
완전히 솔직하게 마주하는 것이 얼마나 어려운지 상징

Description — 작품 설명
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, which creation precipitated from this yearning of knowing, is widely regarded as the “perfect” entity in human standards. Ironically, AI is a program that was made with the purpose of emulating a human’s cognition. Thus, the standard of “perfection” that AI constantly strives to be is a human being. These irreconcilable standards of perfection start to alter the relationships between these two entities. In relation to this, we thought of the story Icarus and Daedalus. Icarus, after escaping imprisonment from a tower via artificial wings enjoys his freedom and flight ignores his father’s warnings of flying high. As we can glean from the story, the more we try to go towards an unachievable goal, an illusion of perfection, can lead to our downfall. Humans can lose their humanity if all they focus on is the accumulation of knowledge. Humans and AI, not a disparate pair of wings only adhering to their standards cross over into each other’s boundaries and be born again as a new creation. Harmonized imperfections fly up and over in perfection and will be the catalyst for the next great step in humanity’s future.
위해 만들어진 프로그램이기에 AI의 기준에서
인간이다. . 새처럼 날고 싶었던 이카루스는
아버지의 말을 무시하고 더 높이 멀리 날아오르다 결 국 날개가 녹아 추락하고 만다. 이처럼 완벽이라는 닿
을 수 없는, 어쩌면 허상같은 그 기준은 닿으려고 할 수
록 오히려 우리를 더 무너지게 한다. 인간은 지식의 축
적만을 고집하다 인간성을 잃을 수 있고, AI 또한 인간
의 기준에 가까워지려다 우리의 통제 밖으로 벗어나 위
험을 초래할 수 있다. 동양의 상상의 새인 비익조는 눈
과 날개가 하나뿐이라 무조건 다른 새와 함께 협력해
야 날아오를 수 있다. 하나의 눈과 날개를 가진 비익조
를, 우린 완벽하다 말할 수 없다. 하지만 비익조는 서
로 함께함에 따라 온전한 쌍이 되어 완전함으로 날아 오를 수 있다.
AI와 인간 또한 마찬가지이다. 각자의 기준만을 따른 날 개가

Each session’s evaluation (combining 2 critiques and 2 presentations for a single score, totaling the outcomes of 3 sessions) was meticulously conducted by five judges.
세션의 평가는 2번의 비평과 2번의 발표를 합산하여 단일 점수로 산출되었으며, 총 3회의 세션 결과를 합산했습니다. 이 평가는 다섯 명의 선생님이 세심하게 심사하였습니다.

Design Concept: Perfect Imperfection
The subjective nature that surrounds what one may define as ‘perfect’ has endless interpretations. This continuity in relation to the design concept is captured through the practice of origami. The art of paper folding embodies the balance and journey between desiring precision and encountering irregularities. The idea of perfection is represented through the process of each fold contributing to our unique form. We all start with a blank state and the creases we leave behind, representing our imperfections, are integral to human nature and developing individuality. This idea of shifting our flaws into assets highlights inherent beauty and perfection within what is initially thought to be imperfect.
