WALKIN' DOWNTOWN The design is mainly focus on the walkability of downtown in Taichung City. Downtown Taichung used to be an important place for both business and administration. As a historical city, containing lots of untold stories. Therefore we want to do something to embrace and emphasize the culture and history values of Downtown Taichung.

The form of the building mimics the shape of stacking books. The volumes were designed to distinct different function and program which promotes different chapter and aspects of the history and culture of Taichung City. Coincidently the "books cover" of each floors act as a veranda design as well.

We designed the building as a tourism information and cultural centre. First of all, by passing through this building before heading to the new town, the tourists can access along the sidewalk and veranda to the centre for obtaining the information , the culture and history of Taichung. Then eventually proceed to the rest of their journey. The strategy intended to promote and boost the prosperity of the town as well.

/Observatory/ /Auditorium/ /Office and Workspace/ /Handcraft and Delicate Workshop/ /Local Food Court/ /Historical Exhibition Space/ /Information Centre/

The design is about a highrise around 35 floors, located in Australia, Melbourne CBD.

06

The concept is SILENCE, related to the situation that the city is facing---”It’s hard to find a nice and quiet corner.” Therefore I started to discuss with the issue and the strategy was to create a long gap for people to interact in the space, and otherwise people don’t talk or conversate with each other beyond the gap. The analysis was based on the transportation and human flow to avoid the noise effected by the environment.

Magnolia, a kind of flower species special to Taiwan. It’s hughly related to the poor and voluntary activities. The aim in this project was to design a movable stand which fit human scale and emphasized on how it combined with the environment in and outside.

The strategy was called URBAN SUBTRACTION, seperated into three parts, first was SURFACE, analyzed and zoomed in the spots to produce Magnolia in different hierarchy of urban. Second was LINE, to redifine the transportation ways based on the spot central decided by “surface strategy”. Last was POINT, to redecide the points that vendors used to sell flowers.

The tower was designed in two types, 10 and 12 floors. It included the everyday work that farmers used to do and replaced the transportation of the long distance between north and south of Taiwan, also a transfer station to bring the movable stand to other sellling places. The size of module will change from the upper tp lower, as well as the process of everyday work of Magnolia.

The project was located in Nanji Airport Night Market in Taipei.

08

It featured with the additional volumes of the housing and they gradually changed how the elevation looked like before. We discussed not to get rid of all the volumes, based on different buildings facing various environment, we preserved the main structure and some of the additionals, also added new constructions to emphasize it.

09 THE GALLARIE

GREEN ACADEMY DISMECO

It’s a competition which I work with my classmates and tutor as a team in summer internship. From proposal the concepts till we disscussed and intergrate ideas and then focus on one main strategy, and here comes the result. A shuttling gallery, the middle level, is placed in this building, which is aimed to collect information, idea, and sustainable concept, and arouse the inspiration and cooperation between different specialties. Also, as a spoke-landmark, we expect the gallery could spread sustain able green energy and eco-friendly knowledge, by perceiving and respecting the original building texture, and adopt environmental-friend ly construction. Finally, we take the crucial actions to modify this old abandoned factory and look forward to see this building to be a new substance fully ready for next generation

A middle level is created to conform the route of various programs in different levels inthis building. To make people gather in this platform, we excavate the original floor of the secnd floor to raise the space higher and brighter.

The lobby, created in the miiddle level, shows a great importance in the building. The mnultifunctional space includes programs such as bookstore and cafe'. It can be regarded as a centre wich people may interact with others and also experienced the former atmosphere. Level 3

Based on the robotic fabrication-3D printing clay, we tried to carry out a research-oriented design. Started with a scale of architectural elements, and through a wide range of material experiments. Also combined the concept and the innovative method of construction, finally developed a customized thin shell system. concept thinking: Since the erodible and hydrating characteristic of clay, we developed such particular methods as drop and spray. Through controlling the parametric of water content, drop amounts and height, formed the “topography”on the fabric set in the module, and manufactured a thin shell for deciding the rain route and area to erode. Finally create a space that was divided by the rains and it routes(naturally). design method: By operating TACO in grasshopper to simulate and control the robot, air compressor provided air pressure, using Arduino for the switch of io and air pressure, presented how the route works and extrude the clay. After hard works on testing, we chose a fabric that could perfectly match the clay(with suitable propotion) and bind well together. In the meantime, lock the fabric and bolt properly at different heights in the designed module to form the surface.

innovative methods: Differ from 3D printing’s layering, we researched and developed another extruder to apply to the new methods, which was drop and spray. Drop would combine fabric and clay with gravity itself, then we got the thin shell surface. In the progress, it was important to consider the shrinkage of clay and the tension of fabric.
