Herefords Across Canada Provincial Reports

Its hard to believe that 2022 has come and gone and we are getting ready to celebrate with family and friends and ring in the new year. Fall has been a busy one for Saskatchewan Hereford breeders, between harvest, sending calves to market and preparing strings for the fall run, as we are on the other side of that it is time to reflect and start the process all over again into next year.
Hereford was well represented at shows across the prairie provinces and out east this fall. Saskatchewan Fall shows kicked off in Lloydminster with a strong turn out of exhibitors. Grand Champion Female went to Manchester Polled Herefords with Manchester Y79D Mist 112J, Reserve Champion was awarded to HMS Hi-Cliffe’s cow calf pair HMS HiCliffe 225D Glamour 32G & HMS Hi-Cliffe 901 Kore 23K. Manchester’s bred heifer was a top 4 finalist in the Supreme. Agribition was back to normal and better than ever this year! It was great to see the barns full and lots of foot traffic during the week. Hereford cattle were well represented and seen some success in the show ring, with Glenlees Farms winning the People’s Choice Award in the Presidents Classic with Glenlees 155E Alert 4K. . In the First Lady, Haroldson’s Polled Herefords & River Valley’s bred heifer Miley 65J was named Reserve Champion Female. The open show on Friday was judged by Hampton Cornelius from La Salle, CO with associate judge Nathan Frost. Grand Champion Polled female was Haroldson’s Miley 65J exhibited by Haroldson’s Polled Herefords, Wawota, SK and River Valley Polled Herefords with Reserve Champion Polled Female going to Harvie Ranching, Olds AB with Harvie OVHF Candy 14K. Torch View Cattle Co, White Fox SK was named Grand Champion Horned Female with Torch View New Era Lady 13K. Reserve Champion Horned female was awarded to Rocking G Land and Cattle, Gull Lake, SK with CCR 6011 Adela ET 59H. In the Polled bull show, ANL Polled Herefords, Steelman SK won Grand Champion Bull with ANL ACDT 36G Kong 115F ET 131K. Reserve Champion went to Glenlees Farms, Arcola,SK & River Valley Polled Herefords with Glenlees AXA Evolve 117J. In the Horned show, Triple A Herefords, Moose Jaw SK won Grand Champion bull with Triple A 6049 Jaguar 7J. Reserve Champion Horned Bull was awarded to Wyatt Farms with H Dominate 1404 ET. On Supreme Saturday, Haroldson’s Miley 65J and Haroldson’s Robyn 24E 44H were among the top 10 female finalists. Remitall Haymaker ET 35H was among the Top 10 Bull finalists. Congratulations to all exhibitors throughout this years fall run! It was excellent to see so many quality Hereford cattle being recognized at the highest level. Sales have been strong, with a few more production and dispersal sales to come as I write this. Best of luck to those selling, and best wishes to those who’ve added quality to the herd this fall! The SHA board will regroup in January to start looking ahead into 2023. Membership questionnaires will be utilized to get some ideas on the memerbshops thoughts on potential new programming and events the board is interested in bringing forward in the new year.
