We are now more than a year since Auto Enrolment pensions started and the first companies in reached their staging dates, the date by which they had to provide employees with a pension that met the relevant criteria and qualified as an AE pension. During 2014 we will see many medium size businesses reach their staging dates with those employing 90 or less employees starting from July. Those who employ less than 50 are then phased in batches from June 2015 right through until April 2017. So you may be quite a way off before you need to comply with the legislation but that is no reason to be complacent. Before auto enrolment, when employers set up pension schemes on a voluntary basis, providers could generally implement a group pension in as short a time as a week, or even a few days. But our experience so far is proving time and time again that because

auto enrolment brings so many other complications and considerations, it can take many months to implement a pension scheme, regardless of its size. Integrating the AE rules and regulations in an employer's business is more difficult. Amongst other things: changes may be required to payroll systems and processes legal and HR advice might be required, and decisions need to be made about roles and responsibilities. As a result many providers are setting out strict lead in times. Most will now require at least six months where no preparation has taken place. And, in line with The Pensions Regulator, we continue to encourage employers to at least start thinking about AE at least 12-18 months before their staging date. And there's another issue. Employers who don't prepare early might find out too late that they need advice, and there will
Time To...
be very few people around to provide it. According to the FCA, there are a total of 21,684 financial advisers in the UK as at 31 July 2013. But how many will be involved in giving auto enrolment advice? Probably only a few thousand, if that. In other words, demand will far outstrip supply. Providers are also expecting to reach capacity later this year or early next year so Employers who do not start early will be faced with an ever decreasing range of suppliers as time runs out. They could end up being forced to use a pension provider that may not provide them with the solution that best fits their business. If you need to know more about auto enrolment pensions and how to ensure you comply with the relevant legislation please contact‌

Insurance Advice‌ gambling agreement, there is no loss required before a payment is made hence the term 'winnings' So next time you renew your insurance remember that you are not just Believe it or not this is an actual betting on an outcome, you are insurance policy that is provided by a protecting the risk of your financial Lloyd's syndicate where I worked. Great news from one of my customers who recently had an unfortunate accident where one of their vehicles hit a pedestrian. Fortunately the pedestrian was OK, even though the impact broke the windscreen of the car. However, soon afterwards we received the usually 'no win no fee' claim for tens of thousands! The good news is that video from the forward facing camera installed clearly shows the pedestrian risked their own safety by crossing on a junction between moving traffic rather than walking ten yards to a pedestrian crossing, meaning Insurersvare defending the claim!

How to become a salesman or saleswoman When I work with people who are about to start a new business, or who are trying to grow and develop an existing one, they often highlight selling as one of their weakspots. They know their products or services inside-out but often have never had to go through the process of selling them to customers. And selling comes with a bit of bad reputation. Ask someone to fill in the blank space in the phrase “---------- Salesman” and they will usually put in words like Pushy, Aggressive, Double Glazing or Used Car. We tend to associate selling with the bad experiences we may have had in the past. So it is useful to start with by reframing exactly what it is that we mean by selling. The definition which I like to use is that Selling = Helping people to make good choices. Begin to think of it in those terms, and it starts to look like a far more positive process, and also one that most people are already well equipped to perform. Business owners, as I already said, tend to know their products or services inside-out so providing customers with the information that they need to make good buying choices shouldn’t be too hard. So, how does the selling
www.b2b1st.co.uk
process start? It’s easy to think that it should begin with the sales person launching into a lengthy bit of sales patter, pouring out all of the details about their products that they think their customers need to know. Now, I don’t know about you, but I find that a complete turn off. So let’s turn it on its head. The first thing that a good salesperson will do is to LISTEN. Try asking questions about what it is they are looking for from a product like yours. What are their specific requirements? How do they plan to use it? What features are important to them? Listen to what they say, then you know the information that they need from you. Remember, we were given two ears and one mouth so let’s try using them in that proportion. Then focus what you say on addressing their needs. If you are a painter and decorator and your customer’s biggest worry is about whether you will leave any mess, then tell them what you will do to cover up the floors and furniture, how you’ll clean up at the end of each day and so on. Customers will let you know how much technical detail you need to pass on to them about your product or service. And often that will be a lot less than you might have expected, so don’t bore them with detailsthey don’t need. Don’t forget , though, to tell them about the benefits of using your service. People don’t hire gardeners based on how well equipped they are, or what methods they use to do their work. They hire them so that their gardens will look great, and to save themselves the time of doing it themselves. So a gardener who is good at selling will talk to customers about how great
their garden will look after they have worked on it, about how much easier it will be for the customer, and about the time they will have to spare now. So, being a salesperson isn’t complicated. We just need to be able to put ourselves in the position of the customer and think “What is it that they need to know?”, “How can I help them to make a good purchase?” Get that right and customers will enjoy doing business with you.
Thanks
Paul

Unfortunately the time has come where the nights start to become darker and the barbeque goes back into hibernation. Here are some tips for safety with gas barbeques over the winter months: ● Take extra care when turning bottled gas BBQs on and off. ● Make sure the controls and the gas cylinder valve are turned off before you change the cylinder. ● Make sure all joints are tightened, safe and secure.
● Change the gas cylinder in the open air. ● When you have finished cooking, turn off the gas cylinder before the barbecue controls. This makes sure any leftover gas in the pipe is used up. ● Store your gas cylinders outside and protected from frost and sunlight. ● Never store gas cylinders under the stairs- if there is a fire they might explode and block your escape route. ● If you think there might be a leak in the gas cylinder connections or pipe, brush soapy water over all of the joints and watch out for bubbles. If you have a leaky joint, try to tighten it (but don't over tighten it) and test for bubbles again. If unsure do not use the barbecue – seek specialist advice

Positive patient praises Cancer Hospital… …despite devastating diagnosis A patient from Chesterfield has praised the work of her local cancer hospital despite being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. Joanne Taylor (44), from Old Whittington, is determined to share her experiences and raise awareness of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, which supports the work of Weston Park Hospital where she received radiotherapy. Weston Park Hospital is one of only four specialist cancer hospitals in England and treats patients from all over South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire – a population of almost 1.8million people. In August 2011, nursery nurse of 25 years, Joanne, visited her GP upon discovering a lump after a night out with friends. She was referred directly to Chesterfield Royal Hospital for a biopsy and shortly afterwards she was given the shocking diagnosis of third stage breast cancer. “My whole world came crashing down,” said Joanne. “It’s true what people say, you don’t think it will ever happen to you - and when it did, I was speechless.” Shortly after diagnosis, Joanne underwent surgery, having her lymph nodes removed followed by a full left mastectomy, at Chesterfield Royal Hospital in February 2012.
radiotherapy sessions at Weston Park Hospital. Although it was offered to Joanne, she decided against reconstructive surgery and instead decided to start promoting the benefits of using a prosthesis long-term. Joanne continued: “It was an extremely difficult time for me and I had some l ife-changing decisions to make, but the treatment and care I received at Weston Park Hospital from day one was so reassuring.“The staff were always so lovely and supportive and there is a 24 hour help line for the hospital, which I found incredibly useful at times of panic or doubt.”
Despite receiving excellent care at the hospital and being in remission after treatment, Joanne began to struggle with depression and anxiety and sought the support of the Nenna Kind Cancer Support Centre in Chesterfield and the Cancer Support Centre at Weston Park Hospital, both of which receive funding from Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. “Nothing was ever too much to ask,” said Joanne, “and at both Nenna Kind and the Cancer Support Centre I was made to feel like an individual where my own personal needs were taken into This late summer's afternoon of consideration at all times.” entertainment will feature world-famous Tenor, John Hudson, and international Joanne benefited from attending the Soprano, Deborah Norman, as well as Look Good Feel Better session at the other special guests and a surprise act.n Cancer Support Centre in Sheffield, where Tickets for Proms in the Peaks cost £15 patients at all stages of their cancer each (£13 concessions) and are available journey, especially those suffering hair to buy online at loss or self-confidence issues, can come www.promsinthepeaks.org.uk. Under the care of Weston Park Hospital consultant, Dr Din, Joanne was then put onto an intense 6-week chemotherapy treatment plan followed With the help of her husband, Jay, her by 20 83-year-old mother Betty, plus her

mother and father -in-law, Susan and Stuart Taylor, Joanne is adamant that despite her ordeal she will remain positive and raise money to help others fighting cancer in the region. PR and Marketing Executive for the Cancer Charity, Cassie Melluish, said: “It’s really inspiring to see how Joanne has turned such a traumatic experience into a positive one and is keen to help others who may be going through a similar struggle. This year, in celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Cancer Charity is hosting a musical extravaganza called Proms in the Peaks, and is inviting the people of Derbyshire and beyond to join this unique event. On Sunday 7th September, locals will descend on the picturesque village of Castleton to enjoy light, popular and classical music with family and friends.

Who makes the most money out of obesity? Some of you may remember in that movie one man said that whenever
there is a problem someone gets rich. So who gets rich from obesity? Is it the supermarkets; is it the fast food industry? No! It’s the Taxman. Your doctor doesn’t want you to smoke or drink or be overweight. The taxman wants you to eat like a horse, drink like a fish and smoke like a chimney. You’ll say smoking costs the NHS £5 billion a year (1) and that the taxman gets £9.5billion a year in duty. (2). Alcohol related harm overall costs the NHS in England £3.5 billion a year (3) and (4). In 2010 it was reported that
alcohol contributes £14.6bn to the taxman (5). Health problems associated with being overweight or obese cost the NHS more than £5 billion every year (6). In real terms, taking into account minimum wage rises alcohol, unhealthy food and cigarettes are cheaper than ever. The time taken to earn the price of an alcoholic drink has never been so low. It’s simple maths. Now if you smoke, drink and are obese you’ll die sooner, over your lifetime the taxman gets your taxes. The taxman saves your pension of £5881.20 a year if you die early. That doesn’t include other costs e.g. medical treatment. 70% of people don’t have a will (8). The taxman gets your estate as well when you die so it’s more for him 10 million people in the UK are over 65. The latest projections are for 5 million more elderly people by 2034. The number will have nearly doubled to around 19 million by 2050. In 2010/11 pensions cost £100 billion (9). Assuming the

19million are on £113.10 per week its £111742800000 per year in pensions the taxman can save if they die early. Don’t forget there are fewer people paying in now as the birth rate is falling! So what should we do? If I had my way, cigarette and alcohol duty should rise markedly yearly. We should introduce a sugar tax. We should do much more to combat obesity and be financially more prudent on all levels.
If you go on my youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/jam esbondtraining I go into far more detail on this.

The Inbetweeners 2 Jay, Simon, Will and Neil are back for another go at the big screen after the success of the first film in 2011. Not ones to miss the chance of cashing in on a sequel, this time they’re heading to Australia to join Jay on his gap year and to partake in as many antics as we’re used to seeing them get up to. So expect lots of drinking and references to the many nights of passion they may or may not have gotten up to.
With the looks of things it’s the plot of the first film in a new location but it’s sure to get plenty of laughs and definitely not one for the kids or anyone who is easily offended.

Deliver Us From Evil Something a little darker now as we have Deliver Us from Evil which follows the life of New York police officer Ralph Sarchie played by Eric Bana ( ) who is struggling with his own personal issues. He begins to investigate a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes and he meets an
unconventional priest (Edgar Ramirez, Born Ultimatum) who convinces him that the crimes are demonically related. Working together, they have to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing the city. Through this alternative and strange work Ralph can finally work through his personal problems and finally find his path.
The Expendables 3
According to Sylvester Stallone this is the final go around for the action movie with an older vibe to it. It could be because the amount that goes into the production and fight scenes really are too much for them…or its so he can move on to making more Rambo films! Either way, the film that critics originally panned has become a firm fan favourite and we get even more stars for our money in this instalment as the likes of Mel Gibson ( ), Wesley Snipes ( ) and Harrison Ford ( ) join the ranks. For a little something different there are also some younger cast members which includes Kellan Lutz ( ) and the first female expendable Ronda Rousey ( ).

Conrad Stonebanks ( ) who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Ross. Although Stonebanks subsequently went rouge and became a ruthless arms dealer so Barney was forced to kill him… or so he thought. Stonebanks is now making it his mission to bring down the whole team, but Barney has other plans. He decides to fight old blood with new blood and so brings in a new era of Expendables who are younger, faster and more technologically advanced. It’s a clash of old school style and high-tech gadgets in the team’s final battle.

John’s Plants Enjoy your garden ! The most important thing this month is to enjoy your garden; heady scents, bright colours, an abundance of fruits and vegetables and hopefully more sunshine. The two most important jobs this month would be to ensure that your containers and baskets are well watered/ fed and deadheaded, feeding with a high potash feed once a week. Another essential job would be to remove all weeds from your borders as they compete against your plants for moisture. Container grown shrubs and perennials can still be planted throughout August but must be well watered until established, a wide range of both are always available some in flower or bud to give a continuation of summer
colour and fill gaps in borders and containers. its now time to prune wisteria by Shortening all long shoots, which are growing out from the main branches back to five or six pairs of leaves. Give herbs and lavender a light prune after flowering this will keep them compact. prune back all perennials that have already finished flowering,Trimming of perennials and shrubs might also encourage a second flower flush especially hardy geraniums, wiegelia, and roses. In the green house continue to make sure your tomatoes are adequately staked and very well ventilated , if you have around five trusses take out the tip of the plant so there is a good chance of development and allow for ripening before autumn.
www.johnsplants.com
Pests and diseases usually flourish this time of year so take a walk around the garden and inspect for any problems, it is far easier deal with if caught early. One thing to remember is that if you have to spray try and do it late evening when there is less chance of killing bees and other beneficial insects.

Kay’s Top 10 Networking Tips… Networking is an effective and inexpensive method to market your business. I do a lot of Networking both online and at local Networking Events. These 10 tips have been put together through suggestions given at The Firm Does Chessy Lunch Meeting. 1) This is my number one tip – if you have took the time out of your working day and turned up to a networking meeting you need to be giving your card to potential contacts and taking cards in return from them. Just ask yourself how will your potential contact get in touch with you if you don’t leave them your business details? 2) Yes everyone is there for the same reason ‘to sell’ but just keep in mind that people buy from people they know and trust. So you might not get a sale at the first meeting but it takes time to build trust and knowledge about someone before they can refer you with confidence. 3)
everyone at the meeting know who you are and what your business offers. Your elevator pitch should include; your name, your business name, what service/product you provide, the benefits of using your service/product, what type of contacts you’re looking for, your businesses USP (Unique Selling Point) and a Strap Line. Don’t forget everyone was nervous once, it just takes practice!
Also you can then listen for if there is an opportunity for you to help them through your business.
4)
8)
Keep in mind when networking that it is not just the people on the room that are important but who they know as well. You might not think someone is a very good contact for you but they may know your perfect client and can’t refer them to you if they don’t know what you do. 5) Think about how you can help the people you meet with their business. If you help them they are more likely to want to refer or use your service in the future. 6)
Ask questions about their business and listen to what they say. If you This is one of the best opportunities don’t know what they do how can you will get at networking to let you refer them with confidence?

7) We tend to gravitate to people we know which is great because we need to keep those contacts strong. Just keep in mind that your there to network and meet new potential customers so sit down with new people as well.
Seems pretty basic I know but a friendly face makes you easier to approach by new networkers. 9) People have come to network so go and introduce you self and ask about their business etc. They are a great potential new contact for your business. 10) Look the part and leave your comfortable baggy clothes at home. Looking professional is the best first impression you can give.
Thanks
