Becky’s Movie Previews We’re well into the year now and things are starting to hot up in the cinema. Here’s what will be gracing our cinema screens this month.
Coming Soon…
Furious 7
The build up to the release of this film has more of an emotional side to it as it is the last performance for Paul Walker who tragically died in a car accident in 2013. As it was in mid-production, stand-ins in the form of his brothers and computer technology were used to complete the film. By now I think everyone knows the premise to these films, whether you’ve seen them or not. There’s the same cast as before along with some new faces including Jason Statham (The Expendables, Layer Cake) and there is
no doubt that you will see some fancy tricks with some cars. This film is the first to take place after Tokyo Drift; the previous two took place before those events. So after defeating Owen Shaw and his crew, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and the rest of the crew are able to return to the United States and live normal lives again as they had wanted. However, Owen's older brother, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), is after Dom and his crew, seeking revenge for his brother's death and putting the entire crew in danger once more. After learning of Han's death, the crew sets out to find the man who killed one of their own, before he finds them first. I have no doubt that this will do well at the box office, not only because this franchise has huge following but also for the people that want to see Paul Walker in his final acting role. Release date: 3rd April 2015
The DUFF A change of pace now with a film all about the trials, tribulations and drama of being in high school. Bianca (Mae Whitman, The Perks of Being a Wall Flower) is a content high school senior whose world is shattered when she learns the student body knows her as 'The DUFF' (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) to her prettier, more popular friends. Now, despite the words of caution from her favourite teacher, she puts aside the potential distraction of her crush, Toby, and enlists Wesley (Robbie Amell, The Tomorrow People), a slick but charming jock, to help reinvent herself. To save her senior year from turning into a total disaster, Bianca must find the confidence to
12
overthrow the school's ruthless label maker Madison (Bella Thorne, Disney Channel’s Shake It Up) and remind everyone that no matter what people look or act like, we are all someone's DUFF. It’s safe to say that this probably won’t break any records but it should be enjoyable non-the-less. Release date: 6th April 2015

The Last Five Years Musicals will always be a big hit at the cinema as they have been for many, many years. This one is taken from an award winning Broadway show and stars Anna Kendrick, who after Pitch Perfect and Into the Woods is taking on another musical. The Last 5 Years by Tony award winning composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown is a musical deconstruction of a love affair and a marriage taking place over a five year period. Jamie Wellerstein (Jeremy Jordan) is a young, talented up and coming Jewish novelist who falls in love with Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. Their story is told almost entirely through songs using an intercutting time line device; all of Cathy's songs begin at the
end of their marriage and move backwards in time to the beginning of their love affair while Jamie's songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage. They meet in the centre when Jamie proposes. Not a film for those people who are opposed to people expressing themselves through song and dance. But I’m sure that won’t hurt the numbers this film will bring in. Release Date: 17th April 2015
Avengers Age of Ultron After the success of the first film Avengers Assemble, the super heroes are getting together again to fight a new evil named Ultron voiced by the amazingly talented James Spader (Pretty in Pink, The Blacklist). This one is again written and directed by Joss Whedon and features the same characters as before including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
him. Along the way the Avengers encounter the powerful twins Pietro and Wanda Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen), as well as the familiar The Vision (Paul Bettany). If this is as big budget and explosive as the last one I’m sure it won’t disappoint audiences the world over. Release Date: 23rd April 2015
With S.H.I.E.L.D. destroyed and the Avengers needing a hiatus from stopping threats, Tony Stark jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program, Ultron: a self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence. However, his plan backfires when Ultron decides that humans are the main enemy and sets out to eradicate them from Earth, leaving it up to Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, along with support from Nick Fury and Maria Hill, to stop

A Business Meeting in March when we elect our committee for the coming year. Decisions made and officers duly elected we can now look forward to a busy time. At the meeting ladies from the ‘Gifts and Greetings Team’ tempted us to some retail therapy the profits from which go to support our Federation. On Thursday 12 March we held a belated ‘New Year’s Lunch’ at Worksop Golf Club. The original event was cancelled due to the bad weather earlier in the year but this did not prevent all who attended enjoying a delicious lunch and the opportunity to chat and catch up on news. Many members will be attending the Nottinghamshire Spring Council Meeting at the Royal Centre in Nottingham on Wednesday 25 March 2015. This year is the Centenary Year of the formation of the WI and Worksop WI has a number of exciting events and excursions planned to celebrate this as well as our usual monthly activities. As part of the Sherwood and Ryton Group of WIs we will be holding a Gala Dinner on Friday 22 May at Ye Olde Belle, Barnby Moor. The WI Centenary Annual Meeting will be screened live at various venues
throughout the country on Thursday 4 June 2015 and we are lucky to be able to view the proceedings at the Savoy Cinema. Also in June we will be visiting the National Memorial Arboretum as well as taking part in the Flower Festival at the Newstead Abbey Centenary Celebrations – the WI theme being “Inspiring Women”. Our annual WI outing in August will be to Winthrop Hall this year with a stop off on the return trip for retail therapy at the Doncaster Outlet. We are also planning to visit the WI Centenary Fair in Harrogate in early September. We are busy creating a new WI tablecloth, planning a centenary wall hanging and collating photos and cuttings for our centenary scrap book. As a contribution to the WI event at the Newark Show in May we are planning display ‘About our WI’. A busy and exciting year ahead – you could be part of it too! Why not give us a try? Worksop WI meets on the first Thursday in every month at the Cricket Club in Worksop from 1.45 pm. There are over 50 members at the moment and everyone will make you most welcome

ON YOUR MARKS…GET SET…QUACK They’re under starter’s orders again for the race of year – the Ey Up Mi Duck race along the River Derwent, Derby, in aid of Sight Support Derbyshire. On Saturday 13th June Cathedral Green will once again be in the thick of the action as thousands of little yellow rubber ducks battle it out to be the first past the winning post. The entertainment starts at 11am with fun and games for all the family at Cathedral Green, plus stalls selling hot food, refreshments and lots more. The race starts from St Mary’s Bridge at 1pm, with the winner announced at 2pm. It costs just £1 for a ticket to enter a duck in the race, with a £250
winner’s prize at stake. Giant ducks are also available now at £30 each to decorate before the race – these are ideal for work colleagues or community groups. Tickets are available now from Sight Support Derbyshire, 65-69 Nottingham Road, Derby, and will also be on sale from our kiosk at Cathedral Green before noon on the day. The Ey Up Mi Duck Race is Sight Support Derbyshire’s biggest annual fundraising event, and the money raised will go towards giving practical, emotional and social support to blind and visually impaired adults and children across
Derbyshire. Eileen Bagguley, Sight Support Derbyshire’s Fundraising and Communications Manager, said: “Whatever the weather, it’s good for ducks, and this event is not to be missed. Derby may have given its name to one of the most famous horse races in the world, but on 13th June there’s no doubt where the real thoroughbreds will be.” “Our thanks go to Lubrizol and Flint Bishop, whose support is helping fund the cost of the event this year.” To buy a large duck, or to get books of tickets to sell at work or in the community, contact fundraising@sightsupportderbyshire .org.uk or call 01332 287027.

Russell Grant’s Horoscopes - April throw your resources away on someone who doesn't understand the meaning of hard work. It's time to put an end to this dysfunctional relationship. GEMINI May 22nd June 21st
ARIES March 21st April 20th Attention and acclaim will come your way in early April. This is a great time to go on auditions, first dates and job interviews. Easter will be a time of true rebirth for you. A Lunar Eclipse on the 4th marks the end of a difficult relationship phase. It will be much easier to collaborate with a business or romantic partner as a result. A short trip for pleasure will lift your spirits during the middle of the month. Be ready to accept an unusual offer near the 18th, when the New Moon invites you to take a bold, but calculated risk. You might have to spend a little more money than you would like, but this is a worthwhile expense. Money from a scholarship or grant will become available as April turns into May. Take this opportunity to expand your horizons. This is a great time to learn a craft, like landscaping, making furniture, or designing clothes. TAURUS April 21st May 21st You'll see impressive results from a health regime on the 4th, when a Lunar Eclipse showcases your hard work. Resist the urge to get drawn into an argument about religion or politics around the Easter holiday. Old grudges have no place during a season of rebirth. Money for luxuries will be more readily available during the first half of the month. Take this opportunity to splurge on a new computer, collectable book, or fun trip. The New Moon on the 18th will inspire a vivid dream. Keep pencil and paper near your bed at this time, as you need to remember this powerful message. A friend will ask you for a loan during the second half of April. Be ready to refuse. You can't afford to
20
You'll acquire some valuable information or skills at the start of April. Use this knowledge to further your career. Castle Street Medical Centre PPG… CSMC held their monthly meeting on Monday March 9th. A one minutes silence was observed in memory of past member Mike Aston who sadly passed away in February. Among the items discussed was the public meeting about 21c at Bainbridge Hall on 18th March. We are hoping to welcome Dr Catherine Oakley in April who is joining us as part of her training to become a GP. We had a discussion on the NHS overspend on Medication and to see how this cost can be reduced. Patients should be made aware of the cost of HOARDING medication and to make sure that they only request medication when it is needed. We hear of horror stories where patients have been found to have boxes of UNOPENNED MEDICATION, some of which may be months and even years OUT OF DATE. There is also THE PROBLEM OF MEDICATION FALLING INTO THE WRONG HANDS, ie young children who might think that they are treats. Overspending on medication is at present one of the LARGEST COSTS to the NHS, and to this end the doctors at the practice are to carry out a review to see how we can reduce this burden on the NHS. The recent Friends and Family Survey reveal that over 94% of our patients would be
likely to recommend us to their friends and family, this is a great response and shows that we are getting most things right. Items highlighted in our previous survey have discuss any problems that might arise after largely been resolved. We have changed our diagnosis of a cancer related illness. It is opening hours by starting early on Mondays believed that by having groups such as this, patients can benefit and not feel that they ( 7.30am ), and staying open late on Thursdays till 8.00pm. These changes have are on their own. We have invited the six local schools to been well received by patients who work and families with children, especially those help our open day by asking the children to with children at school. We have increased design a poster. The theme for the poster capacity on our phone lines in an attempt to will be HEALTHY EATING and we will be make getting access to appointments easier, putting the winning designs up in the and we will shortly be having a dedicated waiting room, as well as having them placed table to display information related to the in shop windows around the town centre. Finally, we were told that the Falls PPG. There is a move to try and set up a CARERS GROUP, where carers and relatives Partnership has been a great success and can come and discuss any problems or has treated almost 50% more patients issues that may be affecting their lives. We than estimated in its first year. Our next meeting will be on Monday 13 th have plenty of information relating to caring and hopefully we will have representatives April starting at 6.30 pm, at the surgery, so if from Derbyshire Carers in attendance at our you have something to say to us or there is something that is worrying you, or hopefully Open Day on Wednesday 10th June. We are hoping that in the near future in you want to join the group, then please co-operation with the other two practices, come along. we can set up a CANCER BUDDY SCHEME. Grant Stothard, chair of CSMC PPG This will enable patients to sit down with someone who has gone through cancer, or has been a relative of a cancer sufferer and

PETS CORNER - 10 Amazing Dog Facts…
Ten amazing facts about dogs I thought this month we would do some good old amazing facts about your dogs that I have read over recent months. 1. Dogs like to poo in magnetic alignment to the earth! – Not one I have tested yet but apparently dogs are sensitive to the earth’s magnetic field and like to align themselves on the north south magnetic access. So if you dog circles before doing his business maybe he’s just aligning himself! 2. Dogs have 18 muscles in each ear – Dogs have great hearing for their ears are important to them. The 18 muscles help them raise, tilt and rotate their ears to pick up sound. They can also move each ear completely independently of the other. All adding to their ability to hear over four times the distance of humans.
4. Dogs can understand over 100 words – According to tests dogs have a language capacity of around a hundred words. This is equal to about the vocabulary of a 2-3yr old human. Although the intelligence of a dog can be influenced by the tendencies of the breed and in tests border collies always seem to have the highest marks. 5. Dogs can lie – Again in a number of psychology and behaviour tests it has been proven that dogs do learn to lie and deceive. Again certain breeds seem to be better at it with Labradors apparently being the most elaborate deceivers. 6. Dogs have unique finger prints – They are just not on their fingers they are on their noses! 7. Dogs don’t only see black and white – They can also see on the yellow and blue scale. However, red and blue they will not be able to interpret in the same way as we do so if you are selecting toy yellow and blue are great colour to select!
9. Dogs are great for your health – Just by stroking them you can lower your blood pressure by up to ten percent! 10. Dog are proven to detect illness in humans – It has now been proved that dogs can literally smell cancer in humans much earlier than other tests can easily diagnose. They are also used to help epileptics detect when they might be about to have a seizure and by diabetics to smell when insulin levels drop. Finally just to let you know we are now getting very busy for Easter, May and even hotting up for the summer holidays so if you are thinking forward to that welcome warmer holiday break give us a call as soon as you can at Calagran Four Paws Hotel www.cfourpawshotel.co.uk

This year's challenge will leave the Hospice and head out to Barlow and surrounding area covering 50 miles in total. It is hoped that around 200 cyclists will take to the road, doing either the 50 miles or 25 miles for the Hospice. Ashgate Hospicecare opened on Monday 10th October 1988 as a purpose built specialist palliative care unit for people of North Derbyshire following an initial appeal launched by the Duke of Devenshire in June 1985, which raised ÂŁ710,000. Ashgate Hospice care was created by upgrading Ashgate Annexe which is a grade 2 listed building believed to date back to the 1600's, using a new extension

which mainly housed the wards and patient areas and converting the old house to a day centre and officers. Ashgate Hospice care is a independent registered charity that provides specialist palliative and end of life care and support to adults and their families across North Derbyshire. The needs of the patients, their families friends and carers are fundamental to the philosophy of the Hospice and their aims to enable people to achieve the best possible quality of life in accordance with their wishes. improve their accessibility for customers with access needs. Gillian Scotford, co-founder of Accessible Derbyshire said: “The conference was fantastic: it was enjoyable and informative as well as providing a rare chance to share thoughts and ideas with so many others in the industry.
