The First Food Barn In The North… …has been granted planning permission in Chesterfield. The Batch House will feature a mix of bars, restaurants, startups, street food traders and a demo kitchen, as well as offering creative flexible space on the upper atrium floors. Common place in many European towns and cities, the concept of a food barn offering quality artisan food in a casual relaxed environment is only just beginning in the UK. The Batch house is going to create that atmosphere for Chesterfield and its surrounding neighbours. Popping up all over London, food halls offer diners a range of exciting food and drink all under one roof. The Batch House is an integral part of Blue
8
Deer’s latest project, The Glass Yard. It’s going to bring people together who want to create something special, whether that is food, products, or experiences. Directly opposite Chesterfield’s Proact football stadium, the barn will form an imposing centrepiece of the whole project with its eye-catching design, and will be surrounded by 18 state-of-the-art office buildings. The whole project has already attracted exciting local businesses, as well artisan food producers from across the country, all sharing the ethos of: “Whatever you sell, make or create, make it as good as you can”. Tim Turner, Blue Deer founder, said: “I’ve visited food destination buildings in lots of European towns and cities and always have the same thought
‘why don’t we do something like this back home in Derbyshire’. Now we’re going to. “The Batch House will bring a European culture and experience to Chesterfield and its neighbours that is currently springing up all over London. “We know from the interest we have already received just how much support there is out there for this project, and now planning permission has been granted we are in the position to make it happen. Is Chesterfield ready for this? We think so!”

Secret Chesterfield‌ By author Richard Bradley The Derbyshire town of Chesterfield has a long and interesting history. It has been a market town for the surrounding area from the Middle Ages, receiving its charter in 1204, and still hosts a large open-air market today. During the construction of the railway in the 19th century it was discovered that Chesterfield sat within a large coalfield and the history of the town and the surrounding area became associated with mining and manufacturing until the closure of the mines from the 1980s. Today there are few signs of mining with many sites returned to countryside and the town is bustling, still overlooked by the famous crooked spire of the
Church of St Mary and All Saints. Secret Chesterfield explores the less well-known episodes and characters in the history of the town and the surrounding area through the centuries. With tales of remarkable characters, unusual events, local folklore and delicacies and tucked away historical buildings, Secret Chesterfield will appeal to all those with an interest in the history of this Derbyshire town. Secret Chesterfield explores the lesser-known history of the town of Chesterfield through a fascinating selection of stories, unusual facts and attractive photographs.

Becky’s Movie Previews Although spring is meant to be around the corner, there’s plenty of cold weather to confine us to the great indoors in the next month. Here is what you can watch at the cinema in March and keep warm at the same time.
Coming Soon…
Red Sparrow To start us off at the beginning of the month is a Russian spy thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, American Hustle). Lawrence stars as Prima ballerina Dominika Egorova who faces a bleak and uncertain future after she suffers an injury that ends her career. She soon turns to Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people to use their minds and bodies as weapons.
Peter Rabbit
14
Egorova emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow after completing the sadistic training process and as she comes to terms with her new abilities, Dominika meets a CIA agent who tries to convince her that he is the only person she can trust. There are plenty of Jennifer Lawrence fans to draw audiences into this one but it does help that there’s plenty of action and drama to keep you entertained. Joel Edgerton (The Black Mass, The Great Gatsby) and Jeremy Irons (Die Hard with a Vengeance). Release Date: 1st March 2018
In time for Easter, the story of Peter Rabbit and his friends is coming to the big screen. The original stories were first published back in 1902 and written by Beatrix Potter and are the favourite stories of many children and adults alike. Peter Rabbit (James Corden), his cousin Benjamin (Colin Moody), and his triplet sisters Flopsy (Margot Robbie), Mopsy (Elizabeth Debicki) and Cottontail (Daisy Ridley), spend most of their days picking on Mr. McGregor and stealing his vegetables from his garden. They are friends with a local woman named Bea (Rose Byrne) who spends her time painting pictures of the rabbits as well as the surrounding nature. Bea takes on a mother-like relationship with the rabbits due to the passing of their mother and father. One day after Mr McGregor suddenly dies of a heart attack Peter invites all his woodland friends who have now taken over McGregor's old house.
McGregor’s nephew, Thomas (Domhnall Gleeson) moves into the house hoping to refurbish and sell it for lots of money. Although because the house is already occupied a war breaks out between Thomas and Peter for the rights to the house and also for the affections of Bea. Lots of traps and nuisances are caused which lead to some funny moments. A story loved this much for so many years will definitely draw a crowd so don’t wait to see this one, with or without the kids. Release Date: 16th March 2018

Tomb Raider The series of films based on the video game is being rebooted with a new Lara Croft taking the reins. This time in Lara’s shoes is Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) and we start at the beginning on her first expedition in which she embarks on a perilous journey to her father’s last known destination, hoping to finally solve the mystery of his disappearance. Vikander definitely looks the part as she takes on the iconic figure of Lara Croft, not only from the Angelina Jolie series of films but also the hoards of dedicated fans of the original video game. They’ve ramped up the action, the stunts and the special effects so let’s hope it gives the audience something they haven’t seen before. Release Date: 14th March 2018
Midnight Sun Sheltered since early childhood, Katie Price (Bella Thorne; Shake It Up, The Duff), now 17, lives with a life-threatening sensitivity to sunlight caused by the rare genetic condition. During the day she is housebound, having only her father, Jack (Rob Riggle; 21 Jump Street) for company. But it’s after dark that Katie’s world opens up, when she ventures out to play her guitar for travellers. One night, she meets Charlie (Patrick Schwarzenegger), an ex-high school all-star athlete, whom she has secretly admired for years. She hides her condition from him and the two begin a romance where Charlie shows Katie things she’s only dreamed of.

Mr & Mrs Fairdeal ‌
WOW! 20 YEARS, SERVICE FOR MR & MRS FAIRDEAL Where has that gone, yes March 6th 1998, we took over the FAIRDEAL from Jack and Enid who ran it for the previous 16 years, with Nev and Betty before them for 10 years, it was Betty who came up with the name so it all started with them, and all of them over the years have been brilliant with us offering help, advice and encouragement to try new ideas so first off we want to thank them for that.
Around 1997 we were thinking of setting up our own business of some sort as our son would be going to school full time soon and thought it was a great opportunity to try so we enrolled on a small business course at the college were we learned a lot about the ins and outs of running a business, the help available etc, and we came up with a few ideas and we even went to the bank and secured a business manager and funding to proceed with one of the ideas however we couldn't find a suitable premises and it was at that time we heard
Call us on 01246 828378
that FAIRDEAL was for sale so we had a talk and went to see Jack and Enid, and the rest as they say is history. After working in factories on three shifts until we got the shop, I thought running a shop would be easy, how wrong was I it\'s not just the opening hours (which are great) its the late nights and some Sundays at the wholesalers buying new stock, it\'s doing the accounts to keep on top of them, but believe me Julie or myself would not change it for anything we both enjoy serving our customers sometimes just with a bit of advice or help with something, we like to think it is a shop were if someone just calls in for a browse around and a quick chat they are more than welcome ( but they have to buy something on the way out) only joking. Things changed for us when Tesco came to Clowne as it did for a number of businesses but it's called progress and it is now a
big part of the village, we had to adapt what we sold introducing different items and ideas, we started looking into key cutting, helium balloons and engraving pet discs which we started selling and have found them to be useful additions to our shop and we have stuck it out even when Wilco came once again we altered our stock again and things have been good for us, but we couldn't have done it without our customers and for that we are extremely grateful for there kindness and support over the year.
So here's to the next 20 years of FAIRDEAL and hopefully we will still be there serving our fantastic customers or just having a chat with them, and as we think we are just custodians of the shop we hope it will carry on after that with a new Mr and Mrs FAIRDEAL! Coldplace - Coldplay Tribute… THE WORLD’S LEADING TRIBUTE TO COLDPLAY HEADS TO CHESTERFIELD Coldplace, the world’s number one tribute to the legendary Coldplay, comes to Chesterfield for one night only on 27th April at The Winding Wheel, as part of their 2018 UK tour. Promising to be an unforgettable evening with an electric atmosphere of dazzling lasers and lights, tremendous sound and the songs you know and love from Coldplay, this really is an event not to be missed. Formed in 2004 by frontman Shane Crofts, Coldplace have performed around the world with their leading tribute, and most recently have performed at Chris Evans’ Car Fest alongside Kaiser Chiefs, The Jacksons and Mel C. The band has also appeared on BBC Radio One and Two, The Gadget Show, Sky News, and performed alongside musical legends
such as Sir Bob Geldof and Ringo Starr. “Our 2018 tour is the biggest tour we have done to date across the UK, and we’re so excited to be coming to Chesterfield,” says Shane. “We have developed our show production to a level now where it works in a theatre environment, which gives us more scope to enhance the show with pyrotechnics, lasers and visuals, which we’re really excited about. We have recreated the incredible spectacle of Coldplay’s recent ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ sell out tour, on a scale that is accessible to everyone.” Having played over 700 shows in 28 different countries around the world, Coldplace are no strangers to being on the road, and they love exploring new places. "We love coming to this part of the UK and meeting the fans, as everyone is so friendly and welcoming," continues Shane. “We hope you all enjoy our new show that we have worked extremely hard on to produce for you.” Coldplace is made up of lead singer Shane Crofts, lead guitarist Dean Stewart, bass player Asa Crofts and drummer Wayne Birch. Having performed so many times together, the band are very much in tune with each other,
creating the harmony Coldplay itself delivers on stage. “We spend hours and hours studying Coldplay, from the way they move on stage, their mannerisms, the way they hold their instruments, how they address the crowd, and what they wear, to ensure we create an accurate stage show,” explains Shane. “It’s not just a case of learning their songs, but how they are delivered. We want to guarantee fans an authentic performance.” Tickets are available from www.coldplace.co.uk/tickets and are priced from £20.00 For further information on Coldplace and their UK tour, please visit www.coldplace.co.uk

PETS CORNER - Caring For Your Dog In Winter…
Well it appears winter is well and truly making itself felt and as so many articles are written about dogs in hot cars in summer I thought it was worth writing one about some of the things to think about in winter as well. Cold - The first obvious peril of winter as for all of us is the cold. Some dogs will feel the cold much more than others. If you have a Bernese Mountain dog it’s probably safe to say on your average walk they won’t need a coat on. However, if you have a Lurcher or a Chihuahua it is worth investing in coat to help keep them warm when out and about. Also in very cold weather dog’s paws can get frost bite as well as irritated by the salt so if you are a fashion follower some doggy boots or if not some paw cream can be inexpensive and well worth using. As well as considering the cold on walks consider it when you put your dogs in the garden or yard for any length of
time. Like humans’ dogs can become hypothermic and at worst this can cause death. Don’t shut them out for long periods of time without warmth or shelter. Also think about where your dog sleeps and ensure they aren’t in cold drafts and that overnight the temperature doesn’t drop too low where they sleep. Road salt – It has become more commonly known but road salt often used on pavements as well as road is in fact toxic to dogs. Not necessarily by walking on it, although this can cause irritation, but by licking off when they get home. If grit and salt has been used and your dog has been walking on it is worth just giving their feet a rinse and towel to get it off when they get home. Anti-Freeze – This solution can be fatal to all animals including dogs. If you are filling your car, see others doing the same or have bottles around be extremely careful. If you think at any time your dog has consumed anti-freeze don’t delay take it straight to the vet. Bulbs – On the subject of poisons as we
all wait for the spring flowers to come through beware of your dog digging the bulbs up as they see the first shoots. Many flower bulbs while fun to play with are entirely poisonous to dogs if they eat them. Ice – Dogs aren’t great at ice skating so be careful when they are off leash near ponds. The won’t tell the difference between the solid ground and the thin layer of ice on the water. The can run out and come unstuck very quickly and the temperature of water at this time of year can very quickly cause shock and death in a dog and indeed a human who attempts to go out to rescue them. So for now I hope you and your pet stay warm and enjoy the winter season. t month… Until nex

Hi readers, I’m Roxanne Rhodes and I’m a psychotherapist, clinical hypnotherapist and coach with a private practice in Clowne. So, it’s all change for me this month. By the time you read this hopefully I’ll be all settled in but as I write I am under a siege of building work being done to get my new office ready for you all. I’ve been in my office at Station Business Centre for three years, and have loved it, but have always intended to bring my practice to my home (well, garden!) as soon as I could. I was so sad when I emptied my old office. It was like the last episode of Friends where they all leave their key behind. It made me question whether I was doing the right thing and I didn’t really expect any of these emotions. It made me realise how much we define ourselves through the work that we do. The office on Station Road was where I got to be professional and use my brain, where I got to leave being mum behind, where I gain time to reflect and space to breathe. As I write this, I have my three-year-old yelling that he can’t find his camper van, and my one-year-old smearing pear juice up my leg. I have to think about cooking and cleaning and nappies and making the builders tea. I have to do my accounts, book doctors appointments for yet another eye infection and find a time slot to go to parent’s evening at the boys’ nursery.
I love going to work. I adore adult communication and the satisfaction from helping a client work through their issues is immense. I gain great pleasure in seeing people move forwards and towards the life that they want to live. This move is about that for me. The doubts come from being concerned about how others would judge me. Whether having a garden office isn’t “professional” enough. Whether I need to be able to offer a “business premises”. Then I realised that this step for me is about me moving my life in the direction I want it to go. Imagine if a client cancels and I can stroll back to the house and unload the washing. I can eat lunch with my husband most days. I talk so much about starting to live the lifestyle that you want, rather than waiting for it to be given to you. Sure, there are restrictions, but most of them are simply fears that we place in our own way. So, I did it. I gave up my office, and my new one is gorgeous. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful. I’ll be starting to see clients in it from late March to early April so feel free to drop me an email if I can help you in any way. See you next month.

Heather Small - The Voice Of M People … …plays SHEFFIELD – Foundry on Saturday 21st April! Heather Small, born 20th January 1965, grew up on a West London council estate. From going to Sunday school and attending the 'Good News Club', religion and faith became an important aspect of Heather's life. Growing up in 70's Britain and not wanting to be stereotyped or treated differently, Heather knew that she wanted to make something of herself. Even though Heather battled with shyness and severe nerves, she joined her first band Hot!House who released two albums in the late 80's. As Part of M People, hits such as 'Moving On Up', 'One Night In Heaven' and 'Search For The Hero' and albums like Elegant Slumming, Bizarre Fruit and Fresco achieving massive worldwide success, Heather became one of the seminal British voices of the 1990s, with the band winning the Best British Dance Act Award at the Brits in 1994 and 1995, as well as the Mercury Music Prize for Elegant Slumming. Heather has since had great successes with two solo albums – the title track of her 'Proud' album has gone on to become the soundtrack to a whole host of very special events including London's successful 2012 Olympic bid, the 60th anniversary of VE Day in Trafalgar Square, the launch of Queen Mary 2, the Tsunami Relief Concert, England's victory at the Rugby World Cup celebrations, and the official ceremony marking the handover of the Olympic Games from Beijing to London. And when Oprah Winfrey was looking for a

song to sum up the work she'd been striving to achieve over her twenty-year career, she got in touch with Heather, who somehow managed to squeeze in a trip across the Atlantic to perform on the show right in the middle of her last UK tour with M People ('If Oprah calls, you go!' she laughs, adding that the first lady of chat was 'very sweet to me'). In 2008, Heather embarked on a journey that would see her dance her way into the public’s affection as she became a contestant in Series 6 of the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing'. Heather's infectious personality and her trademark sense of humour earned her appearances on a number of TV news and chat shows including Paul O'Grady, Alan Titchmarsh, GMTV, BBC Breakfast, The Wright Stuff, Newsnight, as well as special
appearances on The Weakest Link and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? 2009 was another busy year for Heather as she took to the road again with her band completing two highly successful UK tours in May and November, performing at over 30 venues nationwide to sell-out crowds. She also continued her TV work with regular slots on music, entertainment, and politics shows, including 'Dancing On Wheels', a wheelchair dancing competition-come-documentary airing on BBC Three in early 2010. In the Autumn, Heather teamed up with singing sensations Anastacia and Lulu for the critically acclaimed 'Here Come The Girls' – an unforgettable night of feel-good party music and dance, touring arenas across the UK and Ireland during November and December 2010. Well known for her charitable work, Heather was recently made an ambassador for the children’s charity Barnardo's and is continually involved with fundraising and helping lend her valuable support to projects around the country. So what gives Heather the impetus to keep moving forward, to keep challenging herself, to keep trying new things and not resting on her laurels? 'If you got the feeling I do when I sing' she smiles, 'you'd understand'.
