Aloha Makai! This is Raven Bugtong, Maui’s DA reporting back to you once again! Entering the 2nd month of summer, our clubs have been on the lookout for the upcoming year where we wish everybody the best in their academia and for Key Club – membership growth from club rush.

Starting with Maui High, they did an interclub with Baldwin and King Kekaulike and attended beach-ups over the weekend from the last week of June and first to second week of Kahului Harbor Beach. They gathered a variety of plastic, cloths, nets, etc. all over walkway in hopes that the pace of the trash pile-up declines and the beach won’t suffocated. Upcoming projects Maui have are a Rock Wall Restoration in collaboration the cultural director of the fishpond we will be working at; Maui Food Bank’s Ai Holo Box Program; and finally, making a comeback from last term, Fourth Friday.

Going into King Kekaulike, members completed a club hike to help towards Charity For future projects, they are planning on doing a campus beautification to clean prepare for the soon back-to-school season, along with assisting a trail restoration in clearing debris on the trails. They are also helping out at the Kahului Obon where they expose their club to a beautiful culture and provide an unforgettable experience.

As for the SOSP, they are offering a Poster Making on recycling. What’s up, Makai? It’s Talia Farrington again back to you all for an update on what our clubs have been doing for July!

This last month, our clubs here on Kauai have been enjoying all the festivities by volunteering at the 4th of July Hospice Celebration at the Vidinha Stadium Soccer Field. Members were assigned with either helping with vending, advising the children at the toy corral, or giving individuals glitter tattoos to show their patriotic spirit! By the time our shift was over, we were able to enjoy the illustrious fireworks show with the rest of the packed audience that night.

Additionally, our Key Club members have continued to serve during the Bon Dance season. Some service projects Kauai High Key Club participated in for this include the Soto Zen Bon Dance, where Key Clubbers helped out with the cluttered parking. Members also recently helped out at the West Kauai Hongwanji Bon Dance at Hanapepe, primarily aiding the food booths and country store.

Future events include the Kauai High Fee Payments, where volunteers will give students their schedules, and the annual Koloa Plantation Days at Anne Knudson Park. We look forward to fulfilling our part and increasing member recruitment as we approach the upcoming school year!

Signing out,

OTC was a training event for officers to learn more about Key Club and their roles as an officer. There were a total of nine workshops, with each one covering being an officer or the

The June Division Council Meeting was held on June 23, 2024 at the Officer Training Conference. We covered the Kiwanis Family House, Region Training Conference, and the July SOSP. At this project, members helped prepare for the Division 22 Makai’s Officer Training Conference at Hilo High School on the Big Island. We did this through preparing and cleaning the Learning Resource Center (LRC), cleaning the Hilo High LRC sign, making theme signs for OTC, and getting the supplies for OTC ready. This project went great and was a success, allowing OTC to run smoothly on the Big Island and be a welcomingatmosphereforourguests.Weshould definitely do this project again if OTC is held at HiloHighnextterm!

This consisted mostly of raking the leaves scattered across the ground, along with creating adorning planters for the Hawaiian shrubs and palms. All in all, this service project was a delight for everyone who participated, making our park a much safer, cleaner, andbetterplaceforkidstohangoutinthefuture!

The Soto Zen Bon Dance that was held at the Kauai Soto Zen Temple from June 21 to 22 was a blast! During this event, Key Clubbershelpedwithparkingastheeventorganizerswerenot able to do it alone. I’d say this was one of the more complex projects for our club, especially when we ran out of parking during the second shift. As a result, we had to come up with better solutions, such as directing people to park across the street and finding even more space in the already crowded parking lot. Even with this little setback, we were able to serve our community to the fullest extent. After members’ shifts, many of them would end up participating in the Bon Dance too, makingthemsuperfunprojectstoattendoverall.

This year’s and September Conference, across the service projects, theother

year’s Region Training Conference will be taking place on August 31 September 1st at Iolani School in Honolulu! Region Training Conference,orRTCforshort, isatrainingeventforallKeyClubmembers the entire Region. There will be numerous educational workshops, projects, and opportunities to bond with both your division and othertwodivisionsofHawai’i!
