SERVICE UPDATE DIVISION 18 AVERILL PARK HIGH SCHOOL APHS BLOOD DRIVE
LAST MONTH, AVERILL PARK HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB HELD A BLOOD DRIVE RUN BY THE AMERICAN RED CROSS. HERE, STUDENTS, FACULTY AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS COULD DONATE BLOOD TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THE DRIVE STARTED AT 8AM AND ENDED AT 12:30PM. THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WANTING TO DONATE WAS OVERWHELMING. WE FILLED JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE APPOINTMENTS! BLOOD IS THE MOST PRECIOUS GIFT THAT ANYONE CAN GIVE TO ANOTHER PERSON — THE GIFT OF LIFE. EVERY DAY, BLOOD DONORS HELP PATIENTS OF ALL AGES: ACCIDENT AND BURN VICTIMS, HEART SURGERY AND ORGAN TRANSPLANT PATIENTS, AND THOSE BATTLING CANCER. IN FACT, EVERY TWO SECONDS, SOMEONE IN THE U.S. NEEDS BLOOD. THE APHS KEY CLUB BLOOD DRIVE WAS A SUCCESS AND COLLECTED 31 UNITS OF BLOOD! WE HAD MANY FIRST TIME DONORS AND MANY PEOPLE THAT DONATED BEFORE, BUT EVERYONE WAS THERE FOR ONE SOLE PURPOSE, TO SAVE A LIFE.
SERVICE UPDATE FRANCESCA DI STEFANO RIVERHEAD HIGH SCHOOL, DIVISION 1 THIS PAST YEAR HAS BEEN A STRUGGLE FOR MANY PEOPLE. WITH CORONAVIRUS, FOOD WAS IN HIGH DEMAND AND IT WASN’T ALWAYS ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE. SO TO HELP THIS SITUATION, RIVERHEAD KEY CLUB DECIDED TO HOST A FOOD DRIVE TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. MANY MEMBERS OF THE KEY CLUB, INCLUDING MYSELF, MADE BOXES THAT WERE PLACED AROUND THE HIGH SCHOOL FOR FOOD TO BE COLLECTED IN. THESE BOXES WERE DECORATED AND WERE ABLE TO CATCH EVERYONE’S EYE! WITH THE HELP OF THE MEMBERS OF THIS COMMITTEE, WE WERE ABLE TO COLLECT ENOUGH FOOD FOR FOUR DROPOFFS. WE ALSO HAD SOME HELP FROM THE RIVERHEAD BUS COMPANY. WITH THEIR GENEROSITY, THE KEY CLUB WAS ABLE TO COLLECT ENOUGH TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. AS A PART OF THIS COMMITTEE, IT MADE ME HAPPY TO SEE THAT WE HAD COLLECTED ENOUGH FOOD TO GIVE BACK TO THOSE WHO NEEDED IT THE MOST. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND TO BE ABLE TO DO IT WITH THE KEY CLUB MADE ME LOVE IT EVEN MORE. WITH THE FOOD DRIVE BEING A SUCCESS, IT MADE ME REALISE THAT THROUGH THESE TOUGH TIMES, WE WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE BACK AND HELP OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER AS A TEAM!
PROJECTS KEY CLUB SUPPORTS GOVERNOR'S PROJECT: THE THIRST PROJECT IS ONE OF THE MAIN INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS THAT KEY CLUB IS INVOLVED WITH AND IS ALSO THE GOVERNOR'S PROJECT THAT DISTRICT GOVERNOR, CHLOE BAKER CHOSE FOR THE 2021-2022 SERVICE YEAR.
